********************************************* Just Another Day - Chapter 5

I leaned up against the door and sighed. Tiffany was still outside banging on the door wanting to know about Brian.

I saw Brian lying on his back on the floor of the entry and smiled.

"Sorry," I said and reached out my hand to pull him up off the floor.

"'Sok," Brain said and pushed himself off the ground, helping me pull him up.

When he came up, there was barely any room between us. I opened my mouth to speak, but the phone rang.

"Leave it," Brian said and ran his fingers through my hair. It was beginning to get harder to think and speak.

"I...I can't, it may be the hospital." I said and reluctantly pulled away. I walked over to the phone and picked it up.

"Hello?" I asked out of breath.

"What's up, bro? You sound out of breath." I heard the familiar voice of my brother come through the phone line.

"No...Nothing," I said and saw Brian advancing toward me.

"Really?" Alex, my brother, said and continued. "It sounds as if you have a guy there and something was going on."

"No, not a thing," I said and gulped, trying to breathe more normally as I backed toward the kitchen, and away from Brian.

My backing up didn't last to long. I soon ran into the wall.

"Really?" Alex asked again, unbelieving. "So, I'm coming into town, tomorrow actually."

"You are?!" I shook my head to clear it and paid more attention to the phone call.

"Yes, felt something different, so I booked a trip home for a vacation." Alex said. I could picture him sitting in his loft, smiling and playing with the phone chord with his big toe on his right foot. Sitting in that oversized chair in the corner, which I called the `phone chair'.

"Well, that's a possibility," I said and looked at the floor.

I saw a pair of hands grab the belt loops of my jeans and felt myself being pulled off the wall.

"Yeah, well, who knows, what are we gonna do this time, bro? Rob a bank?" Alex said sarcastically.

"Hell no," I said. "I'm not getting you out of trouble this time."

Brian's fingers played with the hair at the nape of my neck and I tried not to pay any attention.

"Anyone new in your life?" I asked.

"Nope, nodda." Came Alex's reply.

"Well, to bad." I held the phone between my shoulder and my ear and pulled at Brian's shirt.

"Well, I can tell you have somebody there, new boyfriend or what, so I'll let you go." Alex said and hung up.

"Yeah, your sexy too," I said jokingly and watched Brian's expression as his face came up to mine. Almost immediately, his grip on my pants loosened and he stepped back.

"Bye," I said to the dial tone.

I hung up the phone and heard the doorbell ring.

I smiled, "How about dinner?" I asked and ignored the doorbell.

"Sure, I guess, I'm not really hungry though." Brian said

"But at the hospital you were craving Mac and Cheese." I said and looked suspiciously at Brian.

"Well, that changed." Brian said and headed toward what he thought was the kitchen. I scratched my head.

"Who was on the phone? Boyfriend?" Brian asked and looked in the fridge.

"Nah, hardly, exact opposite." I said as I sat down in one of the kitchen chairs.

Brian stood up straight and looked at me. "Girlfriend?"

I laughed.

"Well, you said complete opposite." Brian said.

"No, that was my brother, Alex. He's flying in tomorrow from London to see me." I said and watched as Brian visibly relaxed.

"Oh, I noticed you didn't have any pictures of him around the house." Brian stated and pulled out the leftover pizza. He sat down at the table across from me and opened the pizza box that now lay on the table.

"Yeah, well, there isn't much use of pictures of him." I said and grabbed a piece of cold pizza.

"Why is that?" Brian asked and took a bite of his pizza.

"Cause he looks exactly like me, why would I want pictures of him around the house?"

Brian stopped chewing and stared at me. "What?" he asked.
