And now some words from the author: I love this part. I get to talk to you, and you can either listen, or scan forward. Like the trailers on the videos, God I hate those things. I mean you rent a movie, and then you get bombarded with no less than 8 minutes of upcoming features. The problem; is all of a sudden I realize that one of the movies they advertise, is really the movie I wanted. HeHe:) Anyway I hope this chapter finds you all in good spirits. Walk tall my little ones, for you are the chosen ones. To my little bro, TheCoolestKid, thanks for being my friend. To you EC and J, and AJ with C, thank you all for your kind thoughts. EC tells me all about you. He does have a mouth, and it does get him into trouble. Finally to my dear, dear friend Ryan, for whom without, there wouldn't be. My very best wishes to you Ryan. I hope you give the tacos up at 7:00 am. I do love the bike by the way, much sexier than a Saab. HeHe :)
Have you ever ridden on a bus? I mean, why do they call it direct route, leading you to believe, it is a nonstop ride. This ride was nothing but stop and go, stop and go, and stop again. I mean, here I am stuffed into a seat, feeling crushed by Chuck, and the arm rests, on either side of me, bouncing up and down. When they say leave the driving to them, forget it. I'd rather drive myself, the only driving they seemed to be doing, was driving me crazy.
I looked at Chuck many times on that ride. I was taken by his looks. That dark hair, those dark eyes. His adorable smile, and his smooth voice. I caught myself thinking of JT, he reminded me of JT in a kind way. I caught myself thinking of Ryan, my Ryan, how I missed them both. It was nearing 10:00 PM and the driver said we would be pulling into Manhattan shortly.
Chuck began to stir, and stretched as best he could in his little cubby of that bus. He looked over to me and smiled, as he said "Well buddy we made it. Your going to love my Dad."
"I can't believe you and he would just, like take in a total stranger." I said to him.
"Total stranger, your like the only friend I have in New York, your my bestest friend in New York City, Justin." Chuck said as he smiled that delectable smile of his, and that cleft on his chin, man he was hot.
I wondered-Just in case he was, I would be nice. I am a case, huh?
"Chuck that is really nice of you, you are so special. I never had anyone, that I just met, treat me so kind." I looked at him and smiled. I ran my eyes over is face, and down that wonderfully strong body. He was intoxicating to look at.
"Stop it now buddy, your making me blush." He said as we stood to dismount the bus.
People were all reaching into the shelves overhead to remove their things. They were bumping and shoving their way to the front to the bus. It seemed to me, that we all just wanted to get out, and off of that damn bus. The air had become stale. I was feeling surrounded, and smothered. I couldn't wait to breath fresh air. I felt Chuck behind me, he had taken my left arm with his hand, as to guide me again, just like when we got on this chariot of steel. His hand on my arm felt so right.
We descended the three steps off the bus, and stepped into what seem like and underground shelter. The Manhattan Bus Station was below ground. So much for fresh air. I looked around, there was graffiti all over the walls, and windows. Every imaginable space was filled with graffiti. The art of our generation. The communication of my peers, and compadres. The marking of territory, like animals do. The walls were painted green. The lower half of the walls were kelley green, and the top half of the walls were a sea green. The lighting was bright, and cast colors of yellow orange into the thick pungent atmosphere in this underground terminal.
"DAD!!! I'm so glad to see you," Chuck said as he ran to a man standing by himself. A man who had no hair, but strong facial resemblance to Chuck. The two hugged. If was a beautiful sight, a father and son hugging. How I longed for that in my life. His father had the biggest smile I had seen on a person for a long time. You could actually see the pride this man had for his son, in his smile, and his eyes. His father was dressed rather plain, he had a pair of khaki pants, and a short sleeved buttoned sports shirt. The shirt was plaid, and had yellows and brown, with a touch of orange in it. His eyes were as dark as Chuck's.
"Justin, this is my dad. Charlie, as he is known to our friends, Charles Radburn." Chuck said to me, as his father extended his right hand to mine.
"Pleased to meet you Mr. Radburn," I said as we shook hands.
"The pleasure is all mine, Justin. Any friend of Chace's is a friend of mine. We men have to stick together." Mr. Radburn stated, rather warmly. He released my hand. He motioned for us to follow him. We climbed the stairs out of the underground bus garage, to the world above.
"Did you drive? Or are we cabbing it home Dad?" Chuck looked at his Dad and smiled, and gave him a slight punch in the arm.
"Cabbing my good man, cabbing it," Charlie said. As we reached the street he hailed a cab.
We were whisked away in a yellow blur. The city was huge, the buildings towered above, and the little lights danced in the dark sky. Neon, neon, and more neon, in the windows, on the building fronts. White lights, yellow lights, blue lights, and red lights, flashing in the night, like fireworks on Fourth of July. I was taken aback, by the sights. People everywhere, flooded the sidewalks, cars were bumper to bumper and speeding between the green traffic lights. The sounds where deafening. This was a busy place, and it was 10:30 at night.
With in moments we reached our destination. The cab pulled to the sidewalk, we all got out, Charlie paid the driver, and the cab sped off into the night.
We went to the entrance door of the apartment building, and Charlie picked up a telephone.
"Mr. Radburn here Joe. Can you buzz me in?" Charlie said into the phone. The phone was in a cabinet, mounted into the front of the building. He had used a key to open the metal cabinet, and locked it with the same key.
BZZZzzzz click. Chuck opened the door and we barged right in. I was laughing, I must have been nervous, because I laugh when I get nervous.
"What's so funny, buddy?" Chuck wanted to know. He looked at me as we rode the elevator up to the third floor.
"Nothing really, I must be a little nervous. I laugh when I'm nervous." I said to him.
"Yeah, I do that too, I laughed at the alter the day I married Chuck's Mom, she was furious. I should have seen that as a sign." Charlie said, and began to smile, as he went back in time.
"That must be where I get it from." Chuck said, as we all burst into laughter.
Chuck and I settled in to the apartment. We were going to share the second bedroom. It had two twin beds in it. Charlie had cleaned up a little today, he said. He wanted us to keep the place neat. Charlie laid down the ground rules for us. After all we were both only seventeen. He told us since he had to work, he had first dibs on the john in the morning. The john was his from 6:00 AM until 6:30, he also told us, no long distance calls without checking it out first with him. The other rule was if you dirty it you clean it up, to include the dishes. He said the most important rule was if we used up the ice in the ice tray to refill it with water. Then put the tray in the freezer. The only other rule was our curfew, he wanted us in by 10:00 PM week nights, and Midnight weekends, unless we had special permission. He said we had two weeks to find ourselves a job. After that we were on our own for food.
This was all too much for me to comprehend. I meet a guy in a bus terminal. He takes me home with him, and his Dad takes me in. I had never been treated with such kindness by strangers before. I was feeling at home. I liked the rules, they made perfect sense. It was easy to tell Charlie was a caring man, who loved his son.
The apartment was really neat. It had a kitchen, small dining area that had a round table in it, the table was maple, and had four matching chairs. Over the table was a hanging tiffiny light. It was done in a large floral design, in greens, and pinks, with some yellow. The floors were donned in wall to wall carpet, the carpet was a short pile, and it was beige. It was obvious the apatment was decorated by a man. I lacked that woman's touch. No plants, and the only pictures were snap shots. The couch was nice, and had two matching chairs. One was a high backed upholstered chair, the other a recliner. The couch was and chairs were done in a colonial style, they were covered with a plaid cloth. The colors were mostly black, orange and tan. It contrasted nicely with the beige carpet. There was a coffee table, and a couple end tables in the living room. The center of attraction was the sixty inch, big screen, Mittisibishi TV.
The two bedrooms, and the bath were off a little hall from the living room. Charlie's room was slightly bigger than the one Chuck and I used. Though small, it was comfortable. I was happy to have a place, and two people in which to share my new life with. We sat in that living room for a few hours that night. Talking to each other, and laughing with each other. I felt like I belonged. I really felt part of these two men's lives. I was really liking my space. I was wishing that Ryan could be there with me. I had thoughts of JT, and shared them with the guys, don't get me wrong I did not go into any detail. I told them how I had lost my best friend, just a little over a week before, to a senseless murder.
I looked at the clock that hung on the dining room wall, Charlie said, "Well, boys it's one o'clock, I'm going to hit the hay."
"Yeah, Dad I'm pretty tired too. What bout you Justin, you ready to call it a day?" Chuck said to me, and smiled. He nodded his head in the direction of the hall.
"Yeah, I'm beat." I said as I got up from the chair I had sat in, the high backed. I figured the recliners to be Charie's, afterall he was the head of the household.
With that the lights were turned out, and we each went to the john, and to our respective bedrooms. I heard Charilie's door closed. I remember thinking to myself, that poor guy has to get up in less than five hours for work.
I went to my box, to get something to sleep in, and Chuck said, "Here buddy, put your things in this dresser. I'll use the wardrobe chest." Then he proceeded to help me put my things away. After we put my things up, we put his into the wardrobe. The two of us had officially moved in.
Chuck looked at me, and smiled, "Which bed would you like?"
"Doesn't matter, which everone you don't." I said in return.
"Well if you don't mind, I like the one nearest the window. That way if anyone climbs in I can protect you." He said to me, he was full of sorrow for me, and the pain I had gone through.
"Chuck, that is really nice of you." I said, as a tear formed in my eye.
"It's because I think so much of you, Justin. I have never felt so strongly about a guy before. I mean, I have had my friends, and I think they have been friends like yours. I'm not sure, but I think we have lots more in common than you realize, buddy."
I began to undress, and noticed Chuck watching me. He was admiring me as I undressed. He stood up from his bed and began to undress himself. I began admiring him. I could feel myself getting hard. I sat down so he wouldn't notice. I didn't want to ruin this friendship, I couldn't take the chance of letting him know I was gay.
He had stripped down to his boxers, and looked over to me. "Can we talk for a while?" He asked me as he climbed under his covers.
"Sure, I'd like that. Only I want you to tell me all about you. I've told you all about me." I said to him.
"Justin, can I trust you?" Chuck asked, with some real concern in his voice.
"Well, I hope so, I mean, I am living with you." I replied, and smiled at him.
"Do you feel it? Do you feel the same thing I do? I mean, do you feel the feelings I do for you, when you look at me? The way.. well like we've been together forever? Does any of this make sense to you Justin."
"Yeah, Chuck, I think I do feel the same way you do." I looked over to check his reaction. Was he saying what I thought he was? Was he trying to tell me he found me sexually attractive? Or was he just telling me I was a friend, he finally found what he thought was a true friend?
"Can I ask you a personal question Justin?" He asked, his voice seemed a little more intent.
"If I can decide whether or not to answer." I laughed at him.
"Have you ever had sex?" Chuck asked, all serious now.
"Chuck, I have made love, and had sex. I would rather make love." I said to him, and thought of JT and Ryan. I felt tears in my eyes. I missed them both.
"I never have." Chuck started to get tears in his eyes. He turned his face away so I couldn't see him.
"Chuck, its ok, man, I mean we're only seventeen. I'm a slut." I tried to cheer him up. I chuckled to myself as I said that to him.
He rolled back over and looked at me. He looked very deeply into my eyes, with those dark eyes of his. "Justin, You are one of the nicest people I have ever met. Don't take this the wrong way, but I think I love you."
"Chuck, I don't take it the wrong way. I love you too. I love you for listening to me, and taking a chance on me. I want to prove my love to you. I want to earn my love with you. I want to be your best friend. I think I fell in love with you the minute I met you, and you guided me onto the bus. I have never felt love at the house, only from my friends, and now you." I said to him, and the tears started rolling down my cheeks.
I didn't want to rush anything in my new relationship with Chuck, I wanted to take my time, and make whatever it was last. I wanted it to be a long ride. The last thing I wanted to do was loose him. I had just found him.
"Justin, you are the best. Do you ever jerk off?" Chuck asked me, I could see the redness coming to his face.
"Of course, you nut. Just becuase I've had sex, doesn't mean I don't get horny. I'm seventeen. I jerk off at least once a day." I said as I laughed.
"I do too." Chuck said, and continued with, "I was just wondering how we were going to do it, since we both sleep in the same bedroom." He said as serious as a heart attack.
"Hey buddy, we can either wait until the other is asleep, or have races with each other." I said, and we both burst into laughter. "Now can we get some sleep pleeese?" I pleaded with my new found friend.
"Nite Justin"
"Nite Chuck"
