Kingdom Hearts Book I - Destiny Island Chapter 2 - New Discoveries
The cold watery depths enveloped Sora's body. It wrapped him up in its icy embrace much like a mother would wrap up her precious child. Though the darkness offered Sora a peaceful release, he fought against it. He surged upward, fighting against his numbing senses, finally breaking through the ocean's surface. Sora was near the beach, though it was very late in the day. The sun had begun its nightly ritual, settling in for its peaceful slumber. The sky was cloudy and the few remaining vestiges of light set off a multitude of rainbow hues dancing across the skyline.
"Hey Sora!" It was Kairi, standing on the shore. She was always such a vision. Her short auburn colored hair and soft emerald green eyes gave her a very innocent look. Kairi's long slender body was clad in her usual pink denim skirt and white sleeveless shirt. She giggled and waved as Sora waved back, trudging through the water towards her. After reaching her, Sora took a moment to catch his breath. She only giggled more and gave Sora one of her child-like smiles when he looked up.
"What's wrong Kairi?" Sora asked her. Kairi looked deeply puzzled, staring at something in the sky behind him. He turned suddenly, trying to find the source of her puzzlement. There were many shooting stars falling all around the horizon, giving off a purple brilliance as they burned up in the atmosphere. There was one object that didn't give off any light as it fell. Upon closer inspection, both Kairi and Sora realized that it was he that was falling through the sky.
Sora didn't know what to make of it. An unsettling sense of vertigo set in as he toppled backward, falling through the ground that suddenly became the sky. Sora was falling through the sky, as he had seen himself do only moments before. He reached out his hand to take Kairi's, but she only vanished in a ripple as Sora plunged through the water. He fell for a long time, but this time the dream didn't end. This time, he touched the bottom.
Sora couldn't see anything, no matter where he looked. When he stepped forward, the ground tore itself apart. Great huge chunks of the lightless void ripped away. The great pieces changed into doves, fluttering away and leaving our hero on a massive platform of stained glass. The glass had a greenish-yellow tinge with a picture of a young maiden. She had long, lustrous coal-black hair with a red ribbon tied in. Her top was blue and she had a long flowing canary-yellow skirt. The maiden had an apple in her hand, as if she meant to take one small bite. It was then the voice spoke to Sora.
"So much to do, so little time..." It had begun. Sora didn't know what to make of the voice, whether or not he should be in awe or in fear of it.
"Take your time. Don't be afraid. The door is still shut." It spoke slowly, diligently and with purpose.
"Now, step forward. Can you do it?" The voiced had asked the bewildered Sora. He couldn't detect any distinct characteristics. It was neither male nor female, excited or sad, but only a monotonous drone that seem to speak directly to Sora. Almost like it was talking directly to his heart, or was it talking from his heart? That was a question our young hero was sure he didn't want to know the answer to. Sora walked towards the center of the massive stained glass platform. When he reached the center, three platforms rose out of the ground. One in front of him and two to either side.
"Power sleeps within you, if you give it form..." The voice spoke again. On the pedestal directly in front of Sora, a small sword appeared, floating a few inches in the air.
"It will give you strength, choose well." As the mysterious speaker finished, a shield had appeared to Sora's left while a wand with a curious headpiece materialized to his right.
"I guess I have to pick one?" Sora asked aloud, not really sure to whom he was speaking. No answer ever came though, only a deafening silence filled the void. Sora looked from object to object, wondering which would be the best item to choose.
"Hmmm, a sword, a shield and a wand." He pondered aloud to the empty space. After a few moments of intense thought, Sora choose. Our confident hero walked towards the right most pedestal, choosing to take the wand. It was about a foot long with a vivid blue ball attached on the end. There were two matching, smaller balls connected to the first. Sora thought the smaller orbs looked almost like ears, but he didn't get a chance to wonder about his thoughts for very long; a voice came intruding into his thoughts.
"The power of the mystic. Inner strength. A staff of wonder and ruin. Is this the power you seek?"
"Wonder and ruin..." Sora mused. Not really understanding what it all might mean, he merely nodded his response to the question.
"Your path is set, now what will you give up in exchange?" The voice asked him.
"I have to give one up???" Sora was bewildered. This dream was getting a little too strange for him. He looked back from the shield to the sword, not really knowing which one to give up. Sora walked over to the shield. It was a black shield with a red trim border. It had the same shape as the wand's headpiece emblazoned in the middle.
"The power of the guardian. Kindness to aid friends. A shield to repel all. You give up this power?"
"...to aid friends." Sora didn't really like the idea of giving up that kind of power."
"I-I can't give up this power," he shouted to the empty space. "I promised Kairi I'd always protect her." Sora put the shield back on the pedestal. "And I have to protect that kid. I don't know why, but I just have to." There was no response to Sora's unspoken vow, only the continued cacophony of deadly silence. The only choice that was left to our hero was the sword which he picked it up without hesitation.
"The power of the warrior. Invincible courage. A sword of terrible destruction. You give up this power?"
"A sword of terrible destruction," Sora whispered. Sora was very comfortable with a sword. He along with Tidus and Riku often played with toy swords on the island. They would duel one another, but not once did Sora ever feel like hurting them or anyone else for that matter. He would gladly give up such destructive powers if it meant saving the ones he loved.
"I give up this power." Sora announced to the mysterious speaker. The sword vanished from his hands.
"You've chosen the power of the mystic. You've given up the power of the warrior. Is this the form you choose?" Sora didn't hesitate for a moment.
"It is." He merely responded. At that moment, the pedestals broke, sinking into the glass. The stained glass started to break up as well. From the outside perimeter in, it shattered, pulling Sora into the nightmarish depths. The thrashing youth suddenly came to his senses. He lay there, entangled in the bed coverings with the new morning sun glaring into his sleep-filled eyes. Sora sat up, disentangling himself from the sheets, his mother's bed drenched in sweat.
"What's wrong with me?" Sora rubbed his eyes, yawning. "I wonder what it all means?" The still somewhat sleepy boy wondered. The dreams had started a few months ago, not too long after his fourteenth birthday. They always seem to be the same. Sora was always falling or plunging into darkness, as if it were calling to him, beckoning him farther away from the light. It would try to seduce him and Sora was tempted to embrace the shadows in all its decadence, but he would always rail against it. He would disdain this dark lover and before it could swallow him whole, Sora would wake up. These new dreams, however, were a little different. Sora wasn't sure whether it was a good thing or a very bad omen.
"Sora! Could you come here for a minute?" It took a minute for his mother's voice to register in Sora's mind and then he was off in a flash. He found her in the small kitchen, loading small chunks of firewood into the wood-burning stove.
"Mom! Is he alive? How is he? Did he wake up?" He pelted his mother with a thousand questions, all of them concerning the strange boy that washed up on shore yesterday. She turned around, watching her son. They grow up so fast she thought to herself.
"Yes, I'm not sure, no and good morning to you too dear." She smiled at Sora, wondering how much this person would change Sora's life. Hopefully for the better she silently told herself.
"So how is he mom?"
"He should be fine. The fever broke sometime last night after I put you to bed." She pulled Sora to her, hugging him deeply. "Don't worry, he'll be up in no time at all. Then you two can be together."
That last statement caught Sora off guard, and he wasn't quite sure what she meant by it. She let go of her precious son and handed him a small basket. "I'm making some soup for lunch, why don't you be a dear and grab me some vegetables from the garden. Then I want you to clean up after you've finished playing in the dirt."
"Ok mom." Sora smiled at his mother. She was sincere and strong and Sora admired her deeply. He waved goodbye as he trotted out the door.
The garden was situated behind Sora's home. It was his mother's pride and joy. She spent many years toiling in the garden, making it into the beautiful landscape it was today. There were many varieties of vegetables planted in small sections at one end of the garden, and the other end was filled with roses and irises and all sorts of other beautiful flowers. There was a wood bench that his father built; it gave them a spectacular view of the sun setting down below the horizon. She gave that garden almost as much attention as she did Sora and he was very proud of his mom for making such a gorgeous garden. He retrieved some potatoes and pulled some carrots out of the ground. When he had filled the small basket to the brim, he set off towards the house. Three boys came strutting up before he could make it very far.
"Hey Sora! Heard you were making out with some dude!" It was Simon along with his two cronies. Simon was a few years older than Sora and stood about a foot taller as well. He was massive, a dangerous mix of girth and muscle. Rex and Brian stood off to the side. While Rex was just plain fat, Brian was nothing but skin and bones. Both boys however, had the IQ of bird. Sora never mentioned that fact though; he didn't want to insult the seagulls.
"Leave me alone!" Sora shouted back at his tormentors. He could never understand why Simon seemed to hate him so, only that he did. From the moment Sora and Simon had meet, Simon had done everything he could to make life miserable for him. It was a never-ending string of abuse and there wasn't much neither he nor anyone could do to stop it. There was not a single person in the village that didn't care for Simon or his family. No one dared to openly say so though, for Simon's father was one of the village elders.
"Awww, did I hurt the poor wittle fairy's feelings?" Simon said with a voice full of malice. Sora clenched his teeth, but said nothing.
"Come on Sora, don't' hold out on his." Simon had a wicked grin on his face. "Me and the boys want to have some fun too." Rex and Brian sniggered, realizing what their boss meant by 'fun'. Sora snapped, he grabbed a tomato from the basket and flung it at the laughing hyenas. It hit Simon full on the face with an audible splat. The other two boys stared in shock, then they fell on the ground laughing, too stupid to realize that they weren't suppose to laugh at the boss.
"You're dead you little queen." He gave Sora a fatal look, walking towards him with fists clenched tight. Sora only smirked, picking out a nice fat potato from the basket.
"Want some more?" He asked Simon. Simon stopped dead in his tracks, thinking of what to do. He looked around the garden, smiled evilly and backed off.
"This isn't over. I'll get you Sora, you and your little fag too." Simon trudged off, dragging the two laughing boys with him. Sora breathed a deep sigh of relief, wondering how he managed to get off so easily. While this had all been going, Sora's mom was preparing lunch. She had placed a large iron pot of water on the stove to boil while she cooked small chunks of meat in a black iron cast skillet. The heavenly smell of freshly baked bread permeated the air. Although she wasn't the village's best cook, she could definitely hold her own and there was always more than enough food for them to eat. She hummed to herself as she worked diligently in the small kitchen. As she had just finished taking the skillet off the stove, she heard a small crash upstairs. Fearing that the worst had happened, she ran up the short flight of stairs to Sora's room. Upon opening the door to his room she found the poor boy on the floor, struggling to disentangle himself from the bedding. Sora's mom giggled in spite of herself. The young boy stopped struggling.
"W-who's there?" Came a shaky voice.
"Ssshhh, don't worry honey, I'm a friend." She knelt down, helping the struggling youth free himself. Hello there, my name is Patricia, but please call me Patty." She smiled at the lanky boy as she helped him back on the bed. Evan eyed her a little suspiciously, not really sure if he could trust her.
"I..umm...I'm Evan." the young boy squeaked. There was an awkward silence and he looked at Patty rather pitifully. "Uh, where am I?"
"You're in my home. Don't worry Evan, I won't hurt you." She gave young Evan a small hug, trying to qualm his fears. Evan gazed around the room, his sleepy eyes not really able to focus on any particular detail. His mind was fuddled and Evan couldn't think very coherently.
"uh...Patty?" Evan pulled himself out of her embrace.
"Yes dear?"
"W-well, ummm. How did I get here?"
"Well dear, my son found you near the beach, he saved your life." She looked at him, trying to gauge his reaction before she continued. "My son and a few of his friends brought you here, and the doctor treated you. When you developed such a high fever, we weren't sure if you would make it through the night." Evan merely nodded, the full impact of the situation not quite dawning on him yet. He tried to gather his thoughts but before he could ask another question, a loud roaring sound interrupted them.
"Oh my." Patty couldn't help but laugh as poor Evan hung his head in embarrassment, apologizing profusely.
"I...I-I...I'm s-so sorry," Evan apologized, almost in tears.
"Its okay dear, you have nothing to be sorry for." He sniveled for a little bit and another loud rumble shook the walls before he had calmed down. Patty laughed and this time, Evan giggled a little.
"I think someone's a little hungry," she winked at Evan as his tummy rumbled in response. He gave her a small smile, the kind of smile that warms a person's heart.
"Well, maybe just a little." They laughed together like they were old friends, and everything was all right with the world. Patty gently laid him back, pulling the covers back over him.
"Get some rest dear, lunch will be ready in a while." She kissed his forehead and got up to leave.
"Uh...Patty?
"Yes dear?" She stopped at the doorway, turning back to face the drowsy boy.
"I don't really remember too much, but I think I saw an angel." Evan yawned, trying very hard to stay awake. "He had the most beautiful...yawn ...blue eyes," he whispered before finally falling asleep. Patty only smiled, knowing full well now that Sora wasn't going to be alone.
"Mom! I'm back!" Sora walked in the door as his mother came down the stairs.
"Honey, I want you to go grab the doctor, ok?" Sora froze in his steps.
"What's wrong? Is he ok? Did something happen?" He headed towards the stairs until his mom intercepted him.
"He's fine, He woke up for a bit. Now run along and get the doctor." Sora started to protest, but Patty cut him off short. "Scoot!" Sora handed his mom the basket of vegetables and was out the door in a flash. Meanwhile, Patty returned to the kitchen, finishing off the soup by the time Sora came back. The doctor came bursting through the front door with Sora and Selphie in tow.
"Is...he..ok?" The doc said inbetween breaths.
"He was awake a little earlier." Patty responded coolly.
"I'll go check on him then. Bring my bag Selphie."
"Yes sir." She said, bouncing along behind him full of excitement. Sora tagged along while Patty put together a small tray with soup and warm bread. She came up the stairs with the food, entering the room to find the doctor checking over young Evan. Sora was sitting on the edge of the bed while Selphie dutifully helped the doctor with his examination.
"Well? How is he?" Sora pressed the doctor, hoping that the worst was over. The doctor paused and looked at the worried teenager, noting the deep concern he found in his eyes.
"He is going to be just find Sora. Our biggest concern now is that he is just a little emaciated. There is no telling how long it's been since he last ate anything." The doctor sniffed the air, his mouth watering from the smell of good food. "Though I daresay that won't be much of a problem with such a wonderful gourmet cook looking after him." Patricia giggled, blushing deeply from the compliment.
"I do what I can," she responded modestly. The doctor looked at her incredulously.
"You're the best cook on the island and you know it." She only looked away demurely as the doctor flirted with her. Patty had been a good friend of the doctors for a long time. After his wife died so many years ago, he didn't think he would ever feel alive again. Their relationship seemed to fill a void in his life and he cherished her friendship above all else. While the two adults chatted, the sleeping Evan woke up. He sat up slowly, his arms slightly unsteady from lack of use. Evan looked around the room, noting that there were other people in the room. He was afraid at first, until he looked at Sora, losing himself completely in those blue eyes.
"He's awake!" Selphie and Sora cried out together. Patty and the doctor rushed over to the bedside. Evan cringed back a little, not sure of what was going on.
"Don't worry son, were friends. You're safe here." The doctor tried his best to soothe the trembling boy. Patricia knelt beside the bed.
"It's okay dear, these are friends of mine." He seemed to calm down a little, though Evan was still a little apprehensive. The doctor introduced himself.
"Hi, I'm Doctor Hikari, and this is my daughter Selphie." He motioned to the girl standing next to him.
"Nice to meet ya!" Selphie chimed in. Patty pointed at Sora.
"And this is my son Sora, he is the one that saved you." Evan looked back at Sora, watching the smiling youth with intense curiosity.
"M-my name's Evan." He told them meekly.
"How are you feeling Evan?" Doctor Hikari asked him. Evan gave them all a brief smile.
"Like I'd almost drowned." He giggled and soon the rest of them joined in with him.
"Well if you still have your sense of humor, then I'm sure it will be no time before you are back to full health." He chuckled some more and started packing up his stuff. "Lets go Selphie, Evan still needs plenty of rest."
"Ok Dad." They headed out the door. Selphie popped her head back in the door. "It was nice meeting ya," she waved at Evan before running down the stairs to catch up with her father.
"I made some soup for lunch, I hope your hungry." Patty laid the tray of food across Evan's lap. His stomach growled as the delicious smells teased his palate. Without a moment's thought, he took up the small wooden spoon and dived right in. Sora watched Evan for a moment, completely enthralled by him.
"What were you doing out in the ocean?" Sora asked him. Evan stopped chowing down, trying hard to swallow the mouthful of food. He sat there for a while, thinking hard.
"I'm not sure." He told them sadly. "I don't really remember too much."
"Well don't worry about that dear, it'll come back to you in time." She took the empty tray of food away. "Why don't you try and get some rest dear." Evan looked at her a little sheepishly.
"Uuh...Patty?"
"Yes dear?" She stopped at the doorway.
"Do you think that maybe I could clean up a little? I'm really wet and sticky." He pushed the covers off of him; the bedding was a little damp from sweat.
"If you think you're up to it, that's fine. Sora, why don't you take him down to the falls."
"Ok mom!" Sora jumped off the bed excitedly
"Don't forget the soap, I made some this morning. " She headed down the stairs then, leaving the two boys alone. They stared at each other for a while before Evan turned away. He shifted uncomfortably in the bed as the silence continued. Sora scratched his head, shifting from one foot to the other.
"So, umm...Sora?" Evan fiddled with the sheets nervously. "W-what are the falls?" Sora leapt over to the bed in excitement.
"They're waterfalls," he told him. "This place has got tons of them and the villagers use them for all sorts of stuff." Evan only nodded in response.
"You're gonna have a blast Evan, the falls are such a cool place." Evan swung his feet over the edge of the bed with obvious effort; his muscles had atrophied from not using them for such of long time.
"Sounds cool." He told Sora softy, giving him a brief smile as he tried to stand up. No matter how hard he tried, Evan couldn't seem to get his feet to obey his commands. They hung over the edge of the bed like pieces of driftwood. Evan was becoming very upset and started to tear up when Sora came to his side.
"Here," he said to Evan, holding his hand out. "Let me help you." Evan wiped his eyes and looked up at Sora. He saw the sincerity in his eyes and Evan let that comfort him.
"O-ok." The young boy held out his hand and Sora pulled him to his feet. Evan swayed back and forth and stumbled as he tried to get his legs to work. He became very upset as each attempt to walk only ended in failure. Sora never wavered from his side. He picked Evan up without a moments thought.
Come on Evan, you can do it." Evan slumped down on the floor in defeat.
"I-I can't do it. I'll never walk again." Evan sniffled as Sora sat down beside him.
"Don't worry, you can do it. You just have to keep trying." Evan looked at Sora, not really believing what he said. "Why don't you put your arm around my neck, and we'll walk together until you can do it yourself."
"Oh, uhhh...I couldn't let you do something like that." Evan turned away, blushing at the thought of being so close to Sora.
"Don't worry, its okay." Sora took Evan's left arm and slung it around his neck, hauling them both up onto their feet. "See? No problem." The taller boy only smiled as they headed out the door, taking the stairs down very slowly. They stopped by the kitchen to pick up some soap and wave goodbye to Patty.
"You boys be careful now!" Patricia shouted at the boys as they left. Sora and Evan walked through the village in silence. Evan stared at the ground self consciously as the villagers stared at them when the two boys would pass by. Sora kept up a cheerful attitude as they left the village and into the forest. They headed down the worn trail towards one of the waterfalls that was used for bathing. Sora broke the uneasy silence between the two.
"So, have you remembered anything?" He asked Evan
"Well..." Evan started, trying his hardest to remember something. "I was trying to get away I think."
"From what?"
"I...uhh... d-don't really know." Evan stared down at the forest path. Sora was about to ask him some more questions when both boys heard a strange sound coming from the direction of the waterfall.
"What was that?" Sora stopped and looked at Evan. Evan only shrugged as they heard the sound again. It was a little louder this time and it sounded like a soft moan. Evan and Sora stared at each other, trying to puzzle out what the moaning was coming from. It came again, a long drawn out noise that seem to be pleading.
"Maybe some animal's hurt?" Evan asked aloud. The animalistic moan sounded off again, full of a need for release.
"Come on Evan! Someone might be hurt." Sora dragged the hesitant boy towards the clamor. They weren't able to move very fast since Evan was still struggling to make his legs move on their own. The closer the two boys got to the waterfall, the louder and more frenzied it became. It rose to a feverish pitch in one long drawn out sound, and then all the forest fell into silence. A few minutes later they broke through the small underbrush and came upon a very startled Wakka and Tidus.
"Hey guys, watcha doin?" Sora looked at the two boys. Wakka was sitting on a large rock his face was flush and he was breathing very hard, as if he had been exerting himself in some way. Tidus stood a few inches off to the side, fidgeting uncomfortably. Wakka finally spoke up after he managed to catch his breath.
"Hey man, we were just hanging out, ya? Wakka looked at Tidus.
"Yeah," Tidus responded quickly. "We weren't doing anything." Evan looked at both of them, a growing suspicion rising in his mind as Sora burst out laughing.
"Hey man, what's so funny? Wakka asked.
"You always were a messy eater Tidus." The other three boys were baffled by Sora's answer. When no one said anything Sora spoke up. "You got coconut milk all over your face." Tidus stiffened up, staring at Wakka in horror. He rushed over to a small pool that connects to the waterfall, scrubbing his face thoroughly. Wakka jumped up off his rock and started down the trail back to the village with Tidus hurrying after him.
"Hey guys, wait!" Sora yelled at the boys. "What's wrong?"
"Uh, got chores to do. See you guys later, ya? Wakka yelled back over his shoulder. Sora and Evan just stood there, totally baffled.
"I wonder what was up with those two?" Evan was pretty sure he knew what was up but he didn't respond to Sora's question. While Sora just stood there looking back at the trail, Evan got a good look at the surrounding area. There was a large semi-circular pool of water with a large outcropping of rock. The water was so clear that you could see the sand at the bottom and a few small fish swimming in schools. A thin sheet of water fell from the top of the rocks, creating a soft splashing sound that echoed through the air, bringing Evan a sense of awe. The water sparkled softly from the few rays of light that poked through the dense foliage. The lush green forest enclosed the entire space. It was like a private oasis and Evan couldn't wait to take a dip in the cool refreshing water.
"Are you coming?" Sora asked Evan. He had started stripping his clothing off, first his shoes and socks and then his shirt. Evan's jaw went slack as he admired Sora's thin, sinewy body. He turned red in the face and faced the other way when he saw Sora removing his shorts.
"Uh..w-what are you doing?" Though he was extremely nervous that Sora might catch him staring a little too hard at him, he was just as excited at the prospect of seeing the other boy in the buff.
"I thought we were gonna get cleaned off," he said to the nervous boy. "And I don't want to get my clothes wet." Evan turned his head and attempted to sneak a peak at Sora, but to his dismay, the adventurous youth was already waist deep in the pool. "Come on Evan! The water feels great!" Sora flashed him a disarming smile.
"O-okay." Evan removed his torn shirt and his tattered shorts. He stood there, at the edge of the water with his hands covering his lower extremities. Sora looked at Evan and felt his heart get stuck in his throat. Evan's stomach looked caved in and his ribs showed very noticeably. He was almost nothing but skin and bones. What made Sora feel worst of all was the look of sadness Evan had on his face. The other youth soon joined him in the water and everything was okay. They splashed around the water and swam around for a while, enjoying the cool water on their bodies.
"Uh..would you..umm ...help me get cleaned off?" Evan asked Sora. He looked surprised for a moment and then a big smile came over Sora's face.
"I'd love to!" he told Evan as he went back to the shore to retrieve the soap. Meanwhile Evan went over to the small waterfall and let the thin shower-like water cascade over his body. He couldn't remember the last time he felt so alive. Evan ran his fingers through his hair, getting the dirt and grime out. Sora came over and joined him, washing out his hair under the waterfall. They looked at each other, and an unspoken connection seem to pass between them. Evan moved closer to Sora, taking the soap from him and lathering it up in his hands. He lightly moved his hands over Sora's body, gently caressing his body, mapping out every curve and indentation. Sora closed his eyes and laid his head on Evan's shoulder, the feeling of Evan's soft hands roaming all over his body sent his mind reeling.
"Turn around." Sora heeded the command, allowing Evan to knead and massage his back. Never before had Sora ever felt such powerful sensations. Thoughts of Evan invaded his mind and sent him shivering with excitement. His breathing became ragged and the stirring in his loins set his body on fire. Every time Evan's hands kneaded a little deeper, the more he felt like his whole body was going to explode. It wasn't long before Sora fell forward, his whole body convulsing from pleasure.
"Are you okay Sora?" Evan was worried that he hurt him somehow. Sora came up sputtering.
"Y-yeah. That was awesome. I've never had that much fun bathing myself." Evan blushed, staring deeply into Sora's eyes.
They stared at each other for a while, moving closer and closer. The surrounding sounds of the falls and forest seemed to dissipate like a fading echo. It was a perfect moment. The boys leaned in, closed their eyes and placed their arms around each other's bodies, shutting everything else out. To them, the world had suddenly stood still, time froze as if a blink were an eternity. Just when they were about to have that first perfect kiss, a loud crashing sound came from bushes.
