Book I - Destiny Island

Chapter 3 - Jealously

Riku was in a particularly foul mood. The village was buzzing with gossip about the new stranger and it was driving Riku up the wall. It didn't matter where he went, all the villagers were chatting about Sora's heroic deed and today was no different. Riku walked around the village in a daze, wondering who this new person was and where he came from.

"Hi Riku!" Riku turned around in time to see Kairi running up to him. She was carrying a small bundle in her hands.

"Hey Kairi. What's up?"

"I was going by Sora's place to check up on Evan." Riku's eyes went flat.

"Is that his name?" He asked her rather quietly.

"Yeah, Selphi stopped by and let me know he was up. Do you want to come with me?"

"Ok, whatever." Riku said rather nonchalantly. He had mixed feelings about meeting this Evan person. They walked along in uncomfortable silence. Riku thought back to when he was a kid. Things seemed so much simpler when it was just him and Sora. They use to do everything together. Riku and Sora would do everything from playing pirates to exploring every nook and cranny of the island. As they got older, however, Sora made new friends. While Riku was good friends with Tidus and Wakka, he couldn't help feel a little angry now that they didn't spend as much time together.

"Hey Riku, lighten up" Kairi's sweet voice intruded upon his brooding.

"Huh?" Riku shook off the daze momentarily.

"You alright? You're acting like somebody died." She smiled sweetly at him and he only nodded back, returning to his thinking. Kairi was another mystery. She had come to their island a few years ago and he had never been the same since. Riku wasn't attracted to Kairi in the normal sense, but more like obsessed with her. Thoughts of where she was from and how she got here buzzed around in his mind constantly. He wondered how he managed to get stuck on this boring little island and not somewhere more exciting. Maybe someday he would get off this rock he thought to himself. Just him and Sora.

"Hello? Patty?" Kairi walked through the opened doorway into Sora's home. Patricia came out of the kitchen to greet the two children.

"Hi kids, what can I do for you?"

"We came by to see how Evan was doing." Kairi sat down in the rocking chair. Riku was leaning against the doorframe, not saying anything.

"I'm sorry, you just missed him. Sora took him to get cleaned up. Would you two like to stay for lunch? I'm sure they'll be back soon."

"No thanks." Was all Riku said and was out the door in a flash.

"Is he ok Kairi?" Patricia asked her.

"I don't know, he's been acting funny ever since yesterday." Kairi shrugged "I brought some clothes from home I found, they look like they might fit Evan." She set them down on a small table next to the chair.

"Thanks dear, now why don't you help fix the table while we wait for the boys to get back." Kairi followed her into the kitchen, getting everything ready for Sora and Evan's return.

Riku made his way towards the forest. His fists were curled into little tight balls at his sides and his muscles twitched with every step. He couldn't understand why he was so jealous, only that the thought of Evan being anywhere near his Sora was driving him up the wall.

"I'll fix that little blue haired freak." Riku muttered through clenched teeth. As he reached the start of the forest trail, Riku noticed Wakka and Tidus sitting down at the edge of the path. They were both red in the face and breathing hard. Riku stood before them with his arms crossed. "You were doing it again huh? Wakka and Tidus stared at each other sheepishly.

"We were just messin around a little." Tidus said defensively.

"Tch." Riku scoffed. "Ya'll are all over each other every chance you get." The two boys looked away in embarrassment.

"Hey man, no need to get nasty about ya?" Riku didn't respond but continued to glower at them.

"Where's Sora?" Riku asked them.

"He's down by the secluded falls..." Wakka started.

"...with that new kid." Tidus finished. Riku's face darkened. He stalked off towards the falls leaving the two kids by themselves.

Riku stormed down the trail. He was becoming more and more furious and all rational thought was completely beyond him at this point. He slowed down as he neared the falls. He was going to burst through the bushes and put a stop to whatever may be happening, but his curiosity got the better of him. Riku crouched down behind a few bushes and peered through the foliage. There, in the middle of the lake, was Riku and Evan. They were swimming around, splashing one another. Riku watched them play around for a time, not really sure of what to do. A few minutes later, Evan and Sora swam up to the small waterfall. There, Evan started to wash Sora's back and something started to stir deep within Riku. He wasn't quite sure what was happening to him, but watching Evan running his hands all over Sora's body seemed to send shivers running up and down his own back. He was completely fixated on watching the bathing boys. Riku's breathing became heavy and the front portion of his pants became extremely tight and uncomfortable. He ran his right hand over the area, trying to relieve the pressure but the action only sent waves of pleasure coursing through his body. He repeated the action, relishing in the pure pleasure it brought him. He ran his hand back and forth over the tented area. Riku's mind was a total blank as the raw sexual tension built up in his body. Riku moaned softly as his body went taunt. His entire body exploded, causing Riku to crash foward into the bushes.

"Oh shit! What did I just do?" Riku stood up. Looking at himself in horror, he raced away from the area, shame filling his entire being. It was a few minutes later that a very terrified Evan and Sora came upon Riku's hiding spot.

"W-what was that?" A shaking Evan asked, but Sora only shrugged.

"I don't know," he said, searching through the bushes. "Do you see anything?" Evan peered around the area, his eyes searching for any sign of life.

"No."

"Maybe it was just an animal." He tried to reassure Evan, though Sora wasn't all that sure himself.

"Yeah, an animal." Evan muttered to himself, though he couldn't quite shake the bad feeling rising in the pit of his stomach. He looked at Sora with an apprehensive expression.

"Don't worry, I'll protect you." He said smiling. "Why don't we head back? Mom's probably waiting for us." Evan only nodded as he gathered up his tattered clothing from off the shore. Both boys dressed in silence. They headed back towards the village; neither boy said very much as thoughts of their encounter consumed them. Evan wanted very badly for Sora to hold him and comfort him, but he was too afraid that Sora might reject him. So he solaced himself in his own arms, hugging himself very tightly. Sora didn't know what to say or how to express the jumble of emotions that racked his mind and body. So the two boys walked slowly back to the village with the awkward silence filling the void between them. They reached Sora's home a while later, the sun was high in the sky and dried the boys quickly.

"Mom! We're back!" Sora yelled as he entered the doorway. Evan stumbled in after him. Though he had become much stronger, his legs were still a little too weak and his clumsy nature didn't help the situation.

"We're in the kitchen hon." Patricia called back.

"We?" Sora wondered outloud. He put Evan's arm around his shoulder and both boys went into the kitchen. There they found Patricia and Kairi sitting at a small circular table.

"We were beginning to worry about you two." Patricia got up from the table. She walked over to the stove and turned it off. Pulling two bowls out of the overhead cupboard, she filled them up with the soup. "Ya'll took so long I had to put the soup back on to heat up."

"Aww mom." Sora groaned. "We were just playing around a little bit." Kairi giggled and gave Evan a small wink. Sora pulled out a chair adjacent to Kairi, letting Evan sit down. Patricia placed the bowls at the table.

"Uh...mom?"

"Yes dear?" She pulled the cooled bread out the oven and started slicing it up.

"I'm not really that hungry, can I be excused?" She stopped what she was doing and looked at her son.

"Are you feeling ok?" She asked with concern.

"Yeah, I'm fine, just not very hungry right now. I'm gonna go down by the beach for awhile." Evan spoke up at this.

"Umm...d-do you want me to come with you?" He asked Sora, his face full of hope.

"Thanks, but I'll be okay by myself." Sora left without saying much of anything else. He missed Evan's slightly hurt look.

Evan didn't eat much after Sora left. He only twirled his spoon around the bowl, thinking to himself how stupid he was. He shouldn't have touched Sora like he did. Evan groaned inwardly. Sora was so adorable and being that close to his nude body was too much for Evan. He couldn't help wanting to feel every inch of Sora's body, trying to commit every detail to memory.

"Evan, honey. You have to eat, or you won't get any better." Patricia was deeply worried. She had never seen her son act so oddly before. She wondered what might have happened at the waterfalls, but she didn't think Evan would tell her. "Kairi, why don't you show Evan the clothes you brought?"

"Ok!" She replied enthusiastically. Kairi grabbed Evan's hand and dragged him out of the kitchen before he could protest. Patricia proceeded to clean up the kitchen while they were busy. Kairi grabbed the bundle of clothes from off the small table in the living room and took Evan upstairs to Sora's room. Evan moaned the whole way up as the stair climbing made the muscles in his legs burn. Kairi handed him the clothes and stepped out of the room while Evan dressed.

"These clothes don't fit very well." Evan called out. Kairi came back into the room, eyeing him critically. Evan had on a simple pair of black pants with a white cotton t-shirt.

"Well...its not much, but it'll do until we can get you your own clothes." She smiled brightly. "Now we just need to do something about your hair." Evan looked at her suspiciously.

"What's wrong with my hair?" He asked her defensively.

"It's all tangled and a mess, hold on I'll be right back." She ran down the stairs. Kairi came back a few minutes later with a long tooth comb and a brush. "Sit." She commanded. Evan hesitated for a moment, but then sat down on the edge of Sora's bed. Kairi sat down behind him, crossed her legs and pulled all of Evan's light blue hair back.

"OW! That hurts!" Evan cried out as Kairi attempted to comb out his hair.

"Sorry, just hit a small snag." Evan's eyes teared up as Kairi found another particularly stubborn snag. She yanked a few times and managed to get the comb through. "So, what do you think of Sora?" Kairi asked him, trying to distract him from the pain.

"Uh...h-he's nice." Evan grunted as Kairi liberated a few more snags in his hair.

"Don't you like him Evan?" She asked.

"Well, umm.." Evan was flustered and didn't know how to respond to Kairi's question. Kairi put the comb down as she freed the last of the knots. She took the brush and started brushing out his hair.

"I think Sora likes you." She stopped brushing as Evan turned around to face her.

"D-do you really think so?" He wasn't sure whether or not he believed what she said, but he was hopeful that Kairi was right.

"Yeah, I've never seen him get so tongue-tied trying to talk to someone before." She gave Evan a reassuring smile. "I'm gonna get you all fixed up so Sora won't be able to take his eyes off of you."

"I don't know if this will work." Though Evan was unsure of how to win Sora's heart, he was willing to try anything. They talked for a while, mostly about Sora. They became close friends and Evan let Kairi know how he felt about Sora. She let Evan know that she would help get them together. He felt much better after talking with Kairi, and couldn't wait to see Sora again.

Sora was sitting on the sandy beaches near the ocean's tide. He watched the sun glitter off the ocean waves as it churned back and forth. He thought about Evan, his heart a jumble of confusion. Was it okay to love a guy? What would his friends say? Would his mom still love him? Sora laid back, putting his hands behind his head to use as a pillow. Yawning, he pushed those thoughts to the farthest part of his mind. Sora turned his attention to how Evan had made him feel. Sora had never felt such pure ecstasy before. He enjoyed the way his body went numb from the powerful release that Evan's hands elicited from his body. The sleepy boy closed his eyes, thinking of how much he liked Evan. So much more so than anyone else on the island. It wasn't long before slumber took Sora back into the world of his dreams, where something or someone was trying to prepare him against an upcoming threat.

When Sora opened his eyes, he found himself back in the void. He stood on top of a huge circular platform. There was a picture of a brunette woman in a billowing blue dress. The small staff he had dreamt about before appeared in his hands.

"You've gained the power to fight" came the familiar hollow voice that haunted Sora's dreams.

"Umm...What am I suppose to do with this?" He didn't get a response. Sora gave the wand a few half-hearted swings, feeling a little silly.

"All right! You've got it. Use this power to protect yourself and others." Sora was bewildered by that response.

"Protect myself and others from what?" The only answer he got back was the dark shadow that appeared before him. It rose from out of the depths forming a small hunched over creature with a bulbous head and two golden colored eyes.

"There will be times you will have to fight." Two more of the shadow creatures appeared. Their movements were sporadic and their claws were dangerous looking. "Keep your light burning strong." The shadows attacked. They ambled across the platform towards a very frightened Sora. Sora didn't know what to think or do, but he cried out in pain as claws meet flesh.

"OW!" Sora backhanded the nearest monster with the mystic wand. He sent it flying across the platform. "All right, time to get serious." Sora bent his knees, hunching down low to the ground. He gripped the wand with both his hands and readied himself for the next attack. The closest shadow launched itself at Sora, leaping high into the air, clawing all the way down. Sora was ready for it though. He dodged out of the way and came back at it with a few bashing blows. The small dark monster disappeared into nothingness. He turned to face the remaining shadows, but they faded back into the ground.

"Well, that wasn't so hard." Sora was quite proud of himself. He didn't notice one of the shadows coming at him from behind.

"Behind you!" The mysterious voice warned the smug boy. Sora turned to face the black thing, a handful of its buddies appearing to join the fight. He tore into them, bashing left and right not giving them a chance to retaliate. When the last of them were gone, the ground shuddered in response. Dark sickly patches of nothingness appeared all over the once beautiful platform. It pulled at Sora, dragging him down. He clenched his eyes shut, desperately trying to fight the sinking feeling. He flailed about, but when he finally took a peek, he found himself on another stained glass platform.

"What's with this place?" Sora was exasperated. "What do you want from me!!" He shouted into the void. The hollow voice said nothing. He examined his surroundings, noticing a door on the far side of the platform. When he checked out the door, he noticed it was extremely ornate, but transparent also. I can't open it Sora thought to himself. The door was solid, but it wouldn't budge an inch when he tried to open it.

"Now what?" Sora looked around, seeing a small red chest where he was standing a moment before. He walked over to it and opened the small chest, but there was nothing inside. Sora looked back over his shoulder, seeing a large crate sitting between him and the doorway. Sora threw his hands up in disgust. What was this suppose to teach him? He took his anger out on the box, breaking it into tiny pieces. A small barrel appeared this time and he went after it like a madman. He knocked it clear off the platform. Looking back he saw the doorway wasn't translucent anymore.

"That was just a waste of time." He muttered under his breath. Sora opened the door, a bright light issued forth. It blinded him and when he could finally see again, he was on Destiny Island, up in the large tree house that overlooked the ocean. He noticed his friends were there, Wakka, Tidus and Selphie.

"Hold on. The door won't open just yet, tell me more about yourself." The hollow voice was back. Sora scratched his head, not really knowing what to say. He walked over to Selphie to see what was she doing here, but before he could say anything she spoke first.

"What's most important to you?" Although she looked like Selphie, she didn't quite sound like her. Sora thought about the question for a moment before he responded.

"Friendship," was all he said.

"Is friendships such a big deal?" Selphie asked him. He asked her what she meant by that, but she would speak no more. Sora went over to Tidus to see what he had to say.

"What are you afraid of?" The Tidus look alike asked Sora.

"Being indecisive." Sora responded quickly.

"Being indecisive? Is that really so scary?" Sora pondered Tidus's response. He found himself walking over to Wakka before he could really answer that question.

"What do you want outta life?" Wakka's question was a particularly hard one and Sora took a long time before he gave his answer.

"To be strong." He said to Wakka.

"To be strong, huh?" After that conversation was over, the mysterious voice came intruding in.

"You want friendship. You're afraid of being indecisive. You want to be strong." It repeated Sora's answers back to him. "Your adventure begins in the dead of night. Your road won't be easy, but a rising sun awaits your journey's end."

"Sounds good." Sora said with a shrug.

"The day you will open the door is both far off and very near." The island faded away into nothingness. Sora found himself back in shadow world. More of the shadow creatures appeared. They had Sora surrounded. They came after him with a vengeance, but Sora was getting used to fighting the shadow creatures and it wasn't long before he laid them all to waste. A set of stairs appeared at the edge of the platform, leading far off into the distance. Sora ran up the stairs, panic starting to grow inside of him. When he reached the end of the stairs, Sora was on a much larger platform than the previous ones. He walked slowly across it, not knowing what to expect.

"The closer you get to the light, the greater your shadow becomes." The voice said to him. Sora looked back in horror as he saw his own shadow lift off the ground. It grew larger and larger, becoming more twisted and grotesque. Sora ran for his life.

"Don't be afriad and don't forget..." Sora reached the edge and nearly fell off. He had nowhere else to go. He looked back seeing the dark beast had grown to epic proportions. It was taller than the biggest trees on the island. Its body was muscular and the face was covered with a mass of coiling snake-like shadows. It had a huge hole in its body beneath the chest in the shape of a heart. There was nothing left for Sora to do but attack. He ran after the huge beast and bashed at any part he could reach. It didn't seem to take note of Sora, it simply ignored him as Sora bashed away at it. The monster gathered its hands close to its massive body. A huge dark ball of energy formed in its hand. It plunged its hand into the ground, causing the small shadow monsters to spill forth. Sora did his best to dodge the little ones as he hacked away at the big one. There were too many of the little ones though, and they started to overwhelm our exhausted hero. They kept Sora busy as the huge nightmare fell down on its knees. More of the dark energy gathered into the heart-shaped hole. Small balls of bright white light shot out from the monster, homing in on Sora. He did his best to dodge out of the way, but some of them managed to find him, knocking him senseless to the ground. Sora was tired and hurt, but he wouldn't give up. He knew his only hope lay in defeating this monster. He gave it everything he had. Sora smashed with everything he had, giving the last of his strength. Somehow over time the monster appeared to be defeated. Sora jumped back, his only means of defense disappeared from his hands.

"Don't be afraid." Came the voice. The dark monster fell forward, its hands slowly sinking into the ground. Sora fell back, trying desperately trying to get away, but the shadows caught him.

"You hold the mightiest weapon of all. So don't forget." Sora sunk into the dark depths like it was quicksand. It covered him completely, the last thing he heard before falling into unconsciousness was the hollow voice.

"You are the one who will open the door."

Well this marks the end of the third chapter. What do these mysterious dreams mean? What will happen between Sora and Evan? And how does Riku plan to take of Evan? Stay tune for the next installment.
