Between Light & Dark
I really couldn't believe what had happened in the last few weeks. The first and the saddest, my parents were killed while on vacation and second I had to move in with my uncle until I turned 18, which was only a few months away. My family owned a large winery, and when they passed away everything went to me, but it was decided that it would be better for the company to buy my portion. In the end, after taxes, I sold my portion of the company for 256.5 million. So here I was, sitting in my uncles car, one of the richest children in America and I moving to one of the smallest and coldest towns, Forks, Washington. Forks was almost completely covered with a foggy haze and rain, which didn't bother me, I loved the cold, but I had no friends, and was going to start my senior year at Forks High and I knew nobody.
So before I get to far into my, let me describe myself, my name is Adin William Burkess and I look like a plus size James Franco. My curves are my gift and I love them. At 5 foot 8, with curly shoulder blade long brown hair, and slightly darkened circles under my eyes from all the recent stress I stand out in a crowd. I realized I was gay at an early age and that was one of the best qualities of my parents, they were very open minded. My uncle that I live with now is open minded as well, thankfully, I didn't want to deal with all that drama.
Now that were up to speed let me get back to the story. My uncle Dan is the sheriff of Forks and he's told me that he is really glad that I'm moving in with him. It was really awkward to be in the car with him while we drove through Forks, because people kept staring as we passed by. When we got to his house I was really amazed at its simplicity and beauty.
"Now Adin I know that it isn't like your old house, but..."
"No, Uncle Dan I love it, it's beautiful. I don't see any need for a huge house when it's just you and me, besides I will be able to pick up after myself and you when needed at an easier rate because its a normal size. By the way Uncle I just wanted to say thanks for taking me in, in my time of need. And I'm planning on paying you rent and doing chores, just so it's not like I'm mooching off you."
"Adin, we're family, I love you and you don't have to pay me anything. I know that your not mooching."
"I love you too, but I do want to pay rent, it will make me feel better."
"Fine, if you must. Now I already signed you up in school, you start tomorrow, here are you classes."
He handed me the folded paper as we got out of the car and went towards the trunk to get my few belongings. I was staring at the list when I didn't see the slick walk way and slid on my ass.
"Oh Adin are you okay?"
"Yeah, something you have to know about me uncle, I kind of danger prown."
"Okay."
He stifled a laugh as he helped me up. I wiped off my backside as I grabbed my bags. Uncle Dan unlocked the front door and let me into the one story, two bedroom house. It was decorated in a semi-hunter fashion, with a few paintings of deer on the walls. For some strange reason I liked it, now it definitely wasn't my style, but it fit my Uncle. He led me down a hallway past the kitchen, his bedroom and bathroom, towards what was to be my room. Even though the house looked small on the outside, my room was huge and had its own bathroom. I smiled to myself as I bet my bags down.
"Now Adin, I told a friend that you were coming to live with me and she helped decorate you room, you like purple right?"
"Yes, it's great Uncle, you did really good."
I stared at the poster of Billie Holiday on the wall, singing with her signature gardenia in her hair. I smiled at my uncle and he nodded as he walked out, heading for the living room. The greatest thing about Uncle Dan, he didn't hover. So I unpacked my clothes and a few pictures and the rest of my stuff, which was mainly painting supplies. My focus in life is art, painting in general. My art was my outlet and recently my outlet has been set aside, but that wasn't going to happen anymore. I went to see if if my canvases were still in the trunk, but when I went to walk into the living room, there they were in my uncles hands. He was looking at my last one I had started but put off. It was a renaissance style painting of two men, who were having a conversation. The majority of the painting was finished, apart from the faces, I just couldn't figure that part out yet.
"Hey Unc, thanks for unloading those."
"This is beautiful work Adin, I really want to see it finished."
"You and me both."
I carried some of the load into my room, while uncle Dan carried the rest. Thankfully there was more than enough room for then across from my bed. The woman who Dan had help him really knew what she was doing. (I'll just call uncle Dan, Dan from now on) Apart from the bed set and poster, the other half of my room was set up like an artist studio with a drawing table and an expensive easel. I set the canvases down while Dan set the rest against the wall. He grabbed the large renaissance style one and set it on the easel, emphasizing the fact that he wanted it finished. I smiled at this and thanked him as he walked out of my room.
I stared at the painting for a at least thirty minutes before Dan called me outside. When I rounded the corner and headed into the cold fresh air, I saw he wasn't alone. Dan was talking to an older man in a wheelchair and a young man with a slightly tough look to him. The two looked to be Native American, and as I found out were indeed Native American, they were from the local Quileute tribe. The man in the wheelchair was named Billy Black and the young man with him was named Jacob Black. Both smiled when they saw me and shook my hand as I introduced myself, even though I didn't have to, because Dan was apparently extra excited and was telling them all about me.
"Well Adin I had Billy and Jacob come by because I bought you something. It is a fixer, but it runs and will get you to school and what not."
I looked over at the 63 chevy step side he was leaning on. I smiled because I'd had my license for years but never got a vehicle, until now. It was in my opinion, amazing. I was smiling as Dan continued,
"I know you can afford to buy your own, but I wanted to get it for you. I hope you like it."
"Oh my gawd, Uncle Dan, I love it, it's great."
I watched as all three of the guys smiled as I climbed into the driver seat and looked at the back interior. I was really a sight. Jacob climbed into the passenger seat and handed me the keys. He was smiling at me as I turned the key and woke up the beast. His voice was courser than I expected, but it was still pleasant.
"I take it you know your way around an older truck."
"I know a few things."
"Okay well you shouldn't have any issues with the engine, I rebuilt it for you, the only thing is just remember to check the water and oil and you should be fine under the hood."
"Wow, you rebuilt the engine, thats amazing. I wont forget to check the liquids, so do you go to the high school?"
"No I go to school on the reservation, why?"
"Oh no matter, it would have been nice to know at least one person."
We continued small talk, after I shut off the ignition and got out of the cab. We all talked and after a few minutes Billy said that they should get going. As they walked away I gave Dan a hug.
"Thanks again Uncle, the truck is perfect."
"Oh no problem, I'm glad you like it. So are you hungry, you want to get something to eat?"
"Sure."
After locking up the house, I drove Dan and myself to the local diner for dinner. When we walked into the warm restaurant, I got the feeling that everyone was looking at me, and that was because they were. There were only a handful of people but it was enough to make me anxious. We sat in the front of the diner, by a window. I was looking at the sky, watching the gray color get a little darker. We got our menus and after a little deliberation, Dan ordered a steak and I ordered a plate of fettuccine. I was amazed at how well everything tasted. After we finished eating, and the bill came, I reached for it and Dan seemed to be very displeased.
"Young man, put that bill down."
"What, why."
"Because I said so, I will pay. You can get it next time."
"Okay."
He smiled as I set the bill down and I couldn't help but smile myself. By the time we got home I was really tired and Dan seemed to notice.
"Well kiddo I'm hitting the sack and I suggest you turn in too, you have school in the morning."
"Okay Unc, goodnight."
We went into our rooms and shut the doors. I took off my clothes and slid between the sheets and fell asleep. It was 7am when Dan came into my room and woke me up, telling me that he was on his way out and that my first class started at 8am. I nodded my head as I stretched and said goodbye. After I head him leave I got up and took a shower. After getting cleaned, I got dressed and grabbed an apple and headed out towards the high school. When I got there, I had thirty minutes before class started, so I went to admissions and got my books and a map of the school. I easily found my way to my first class, biology. As I walked into the classroom, I noticed almost all the class was full. I went to the teacher and said that I was the new student and told him my name. He looked a little surprised, but after a few quiet moments he made a class announcement, about who I was and that I would be partnered with an Edward Cullen.
My teacher pointed to where I was suppose to sit and as I sat down, I looked over at my partner. Not only was he the palest guy I'd ever seen, but he was the hottest. He was thinner than me, as it usually happened, with smooth features and piercing golden honey eyes. They were beautiful, but it was his lips that made his face striking. He smiled at me and introduced himself.
"Hello my name is Edward Cullen, and your Adin Burkess, the sheriff's nephew."
"Yes, but we can keep that between us. I don't want to be news."
"That's the bad part of being new in a small town, your news, but I will do my best to keep it to myself. Remember in high school, people talk."
"I'll remember that."
As class started I was realizing that the majority of the material, I already knew. We were studying meiosis and mitosis. When Edward was naming off the phases, without even really looking at the microscope, I was looking at him doing it. I told myself that he was more than likely straight and off limits. When I went to reach for the microscope to see what he was seeing, our hands briefly touched. His skin was like ice, but soothing to me.
"Sorry Edward, were you finished with the microscope?"
"Yes."
He seemed a little pissed after out skin touched, definitely straight, so I just kept to myself after that. As the bell rang, he sped off and out of the class room. I had a half hour before my next class so I went to my truck to put my biology book in the cab. When I closed the door, I had my back to the parking lot, but all of a sudden I heard a loud screeching noise, and when I turned around I saw the blue van heading right at me. I was waiting for the impact but before I could even think, there Edward was grabbing me by the waist. I watched in amazement as he slammed his hand into the van and pushed the metallic beast away from the two of us. Everything happened so fast, but the one thing I could be sure of, there was more to Edward Cullen, then what he was letting off. He whispered in my ear,
"Be careful Adin."
And he was gone, he just vanished into a blurred haze. Then came all the people and all the noise of high schoolers freaking out. The driver slid over to the passenger window and I noticed had a cut on his forehead.
"Oh my gawg, dude are you okay? I'm sorry I lost control."
"It's fine."
There was a rush of people, making sure I was okay. Someone said that they were calling the police, which meant Dan and before I knew it an ambulance came and took me to the hospital, even though I was fine.
Uncle Dan burst into the hospital room where I was sitting on a bed, with ice on my knee. The young man who almost hit me, was in the next room, getting stitches. He was really obnoxious after the twentieth time of apologizing. Dan's voice echoed in the room.
"Adin, you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine. I would like to go back to school."
"Okay, but only if your sure."
"I am, I've only missed an hour, which is one class."
After Dan called a nurse to get the doctor, the boy who hit me, who I found out was named Tyler apologized once more when he saw who I was with. Dan was furious when Tyler spoke,
"Your license is mine, mister."
"Uncle Dan, there's no need for that. He said he was sorry. It was an accident."
"Well you could have died."
"Yes, but I didn't, don't take his license, just give him a strong verbal warning."
"Well I guess, since this is his first offense."
He looked over at Tyler and warned him if something like this happened again, he would loose his license. And that was the end of it. At this time in walked the doctor, which in my opinion looked too good to be a doctor. He had blond hair and a strong jar. With piercing eyes and a beautiful smile, he seemed happy to see me.
"Aw, I heard the Sheriff's nephew was here, had a little accident. It's good that your okay, good reflexes."
"Actually I didn't do anything really, I'm just glad Edward was there. He got to me so fast."
Dan looked at the doctor,
"Edward, your boy. Well thank him for me. I don't know what I'd do if I lost my nephew."
The doctor smiled, but seemed a little worried, but told Dan he would pass on the message and that I looked fine to go back to school. The doctor turned and walked away and when I went to stand up I felt some pain in my knee but I would deal with it. Dan was talking to Tyler again, as I walked out of the room and found my way towards the lobby. I went to turn a corner, but saw Edward talking to the Doctor, his father apparently, but if you ask me they looked like they could've been brothers. They seemed to be having a disagreement, but after as I saw them, the doctor saw me and quickly motioned for Edward to turn. When he did, and saw me, he looked unhappy.
"Hey Edward can I talk to you for a second?"
The doctor walked away and as Edward came up to me, he seemed more that irritated.
"What?"
"I just was wondering how did you get to me so fast. I don't even remember seeing you in the parking lot. How did you get to me so fast?"
"What are you talking about, I was standing right next to you."
"No you weren't. How did you get to me?"
"Can't you just thank me and get over it."
"Thank you."
"Your not going to let this go, are you?"
"No."
"Well then I hope you enjoy disappointment."
And that was the last thing he said before he walked away, leaving me alone. Dan walked up a few seconds after and asked if I was ready to got back to school. I said that I was and after a few more minutes Dan and I were heading back towards Forks High. When he dropped me off, I said that I would see him later and for him to drive careful. He smiled and waved as he drove off. Just as I entered back into the high school the lunch bell rang. After going to the class that I missed and telling the teacher what happened she explained that she heard and that I was excused from her class for the day. So I found my way to the cafeteria, which was busy with laughter. While getting a tray, I could hear some of the whispers, but I wasn't going to let that disturb me. I went to the salad bar after grabbing an apple and was artistically arranging vegetables in color coded patterns when Edwards voice came from my right side, startling me.
"Edible art."
I slammed my hand down and knocked off my apple, but before it hit the floor, I watched in silent awe, as Edward bumped the fruit off the top of his shoe and caught it between both hands.
"Adin."
"Thanks."
I said it with a little discontent, while grabbing the forbidden fruit from his cold hand and placing it back on my tray. When I turned around the bar to get some more cucumbers, I felt he was still behind me. I turned to face him when he spoke,
"I'm glad you're alright."
"What?"
"I said I'm glad you are alright, is there something wrong with that."
"No, but your mood swings are starting to give me whiplash."
This caused him to smile. After finishing and paying for my salad, I found a table in the back that didn't have anyone sitting at it. When I went to take a bite up walked a few students, who were friends of Tyler's and wanted to thank me for not letting Dan take his license away. I said no problem and with that they walked off. It was his voice that shocked me again and once more stopped me from taking a bite.
"Not even an I'm sorry for our friend almost killing you. Ridiculous."
"Well it's better than trying to lie, saying that you were next to me, when you and I both know you were no where near the general area."
"Again, you can't let it go."
I watched him walk away and I just shook my head as I took a bite.
This was how it went on for the next few weeks. Dan and I got closer, my grades were in tip top shape, and Edward was still avoiding me like the plague. I didn't talk much to other students and I liked it that way, since a lot of them seemed more into themselves than others. Edward did talk to me on one occasion, but it didn't end well. We ended up going on a field trip for biology to the local hydro green house. I was picking up the rear of the line of students, watching the plant life grown without dirt. I didn't watch were I was going and I almost tripped, but Edward grabbed my hand and kept me from falling. I hadn't even noticed he was behind me, but there he was, looking at me with a nasty expression on his face.
"Could you at least watch where your walking?"
"Excuse me."
I walked away from him, after snatching my hand out if his. When I went to the bus, he rushed up to me,
"Adin, we shouldn't be friends."
"What are you talking about, we are hardly even acquaintances. Why didn't you just let Tyler kill me, and save yourself all this regret."
"Wha...you think I regret saving you."
"I can see that you do, but I just don't know...why."
"You don't know anything."
Again he walked off, after a rude comment. That had been two weeks back, and it was getting to the point where I was beginning to forget all about him. It was lunch time and I was sitting alone, by a large window, reading some Poe, when I heard his voice.
"So which is your favorite?"
Without looking up, I gave him an answer.
"What do you care Edward, this conversation is going to end the same way all our conversations end, with you saying some hurtful remark and walking off so let me cut you off at the pass..."
"I'm sorry."
"What for?"
"For me bing rude, I was raised better than that, and for that I am sorry."
I thought it over for a second and just shruugged my shoulders.
"Don't worry about it."
"May I sit with you?"
"Are you sure you want to?"
"Yes".
As he sat down I saw him looking at my sketch book in my school bag. He looked up and saw me looking at him.
"May I."
"Normally I would say no, but because it's you, sure."
He reached over and grabbed my tattered leather sketch book and began to go through some of my most private drawings. He finally stopped on one, it was the sketch I did for my renaissance painting. When he spoke I almost fell out of my seat.
"There lovers aren't they?"
"What, why do you say that."
"The way you've drawn the scene, the way they are so close and yet so far away because they're out in public, and the items on the table. The yellow roses, symbol of new beginning, new love. I really like this one, is it a study for a painting?"
I was stunned, nobody ever guessed what the true meaning behind that painting was. I was trying to convey the ultimate lie, a forbidden love, within a lie, within a lie. When Edward looked over at me he smiled,
"Adin, what's wrong?"
So I told him, that nobody had ever guessed what the true meaning of my painting was. And I told him that the painting was in my room, and he said that he would love to see it. As lunch came to a close Edward asked if I would like to ditch with him. Me being a little rebellious, said sure. I asked where were we going and as we got to the parking lot he said that he was going to head to his house. I was a little nervous but figured what was the worst that could happen. We got to his car, a shiny silver Volvo, and he unlocked and opened the door for me. As we both got in and headed out of the parking lot and almost out of town it seemed, I was a little nervous about being in such small quarters with him. We were driving for a few miles before we turned off the main road and onto a dirt road. As we rounded a corner, I saw a beautiful modern house. It was a mixture of glass, wood and metal, with an influence of art deco. When he turned off the ignition and slid out I opened the door and got out myself. We walked side by side and when we got to front door Edward opened it and let me enter first. Everything looked so neat and bright. Edward asked if he could take my coat and as I shrugged out of it, my hair came undone, out of the stretched out hair tie, falling past my shoulder blades. I quickly gathered it up, but before I could put it back up, Edward spoke.
"I like it when you have it down."
I looked at him with a questionable expression, but decided to leave my hair down. Classical music filled the room and as I followed Edward past a staircase and into the kitchen, I saw his father, the doctor and a younger woman. I was a little worried because I didn't want the doctor to tell Dan that I wasn't in class, but as he saw me, both he and the woman smiled. Edward looked down at me and smiled,
"Adin this is my father Carlisle and this is my mother Esme."
I shook both their hands, and as Esme looked briefly at Edward she smiled when she looked in my direction.
"Edward, you didn't tell us we were going to have company."
"Sorry Mom, we decided to ditch and come here."
"Now boys, don't get into too much trouble."
"We won't."
So we all sat in the kitchen and were sharing small talk. Esme asked me about my family and so I told all three of them about my family and what happened to my parents. Esme looked saddened and Carlisle seemed touched. All I could do was smile.
"I guess luck isn't in all of our pockets."
Edward looked over at me,
"That depends on what type of luck you're talking about."
With that Esme and Carlisle excused themselves, while Edward gave me a tour of their house. The downstairs was mainly living room and kitchen space. The upstairs was Carlisle and Esme's room and in the back, much like mine, was Edwards room. It was beautiful, large windows looking off into the forest. His music collection was the second thing I noticed. It wrapped around the whole room. Tons of vinyl, from classical to pop, to jazz. I looked through the sections and found what I was hoping he would have. I reached up and pulled down Billie Holiday, Lady Day. It felt empty and for good reason, because as Edward pushed the play button on his record player, out poured the sounds of "Good morning Heartache."
"I love her voice."
Edward smiled as he spoke.
"I do too."
I placed the album cover back and sat down on his bed-like couch, listening to the rhythmic hum of Billie's voice. I felt Edward sit next to me and as the song came to an end, I opened my eyes and saw that he was watching me.
"What?"
"Nothing, it's just nice to see someone with good taste in music."
So we sat there, listening to music, when after a few minutes Edward asked me a bombshell of a question.
"Adin, can I ask you a personal question?"
"Sure."
"Are you gay?"
I got tense and started to feel very hot.
"I um...yes I am."
"Oh okay."
I got quiet but after a few pain filled moments spoke,
"Do you want me to leave?"
"Why would you leave?"
"Well because I don't want to make you uncomfortable. I know how straight guys are."
"I'm very comfortable with you and who ever said that I was straight?"
I was shocked at what he said,
"Edward can I ask you a personal question?"
"Yes."
"Are you gay?"
He was silent for a moment,
"Well I could tell you, but I would rather show you."
And with that he scooted closer towards me and leaned down and placed his lips on my cheek and then on top of my lips. It was a quick kiss, nothing sexual, but more pleasing. I felt his feathery kiss across my lips and there seemed to be electricity that flowed through our lips. As he leaned upright, he seemed a little nervous, but was all smiles, nonetheless. We continued to listen to music and when the time came for him to take me back to school so I could drive my truck home I said goodbye and that I had a nice time. He lightly nodded and said goodbye as well and drove off.
That weekend was pretty uneventful, Dan went out with Billy to go fishing, while Jacob spent the day with me. We decided to go down to the beach, to watch the tide come in. Jacob was very reserved in certain aspects of his life, but when I finally got him to talk he was quickly reminded that I wasn't trying to get into his pants. We talked about his family and history and how far back it went in Forks. He talked about some of the ancient stories of the quileute tribe. He told me that the story goes that the tribes people were supposedly decedents of the wolf and that their main point in life was to defend their land against the cold ones. This sparked my interest and when I asked Jacob about what a cold one was he went into a deep conversation about them being commonly known today as vampires. While driving out of the beach parking lot Jacob had me go to his house so he could pick something up.
As I pulled into the drive way I saw that his house looked very worn, but homey nonetheless. He got out and about a minute later he came running back, with a book in his hand. He handed it to me and said that I could keep it. I looked at the brown cover and saw the Native American design with the title, Quileute Legends in bold, black font. I said thanks and we headed back to my house.
As we pulled into the drive, Billy and Dan were out talking, drinking a beer. I said hello to Billy and asked how the fishing went. He was laughing at Dan, telling me that Dan claimed to have caught a large fish, but he never saw anything but the line. We shared some talk about fishing and what Jacob and I did, and after a short while Billy said that they should get going, and with that, they waved goodbye.
I cooked dinner for Dan and myself, a nice steak for Dan and a salad for me, listening to him swear up and down about the fish that got away. After dinner, while I finished the dishes I decided to look for a art store around the general area to get some paints. I grabbed my laptop and sat in the dining room, searching for anything close. After a quick search I found that Port Angeles was the closest. Port Angeles was about an hours drive from Forks and after I got the address, I went to Dan and told him that I was going to drive there for some supplies. He said okay, but told me to keep my cell phone on my hip, and to drive careful.
That night I had a dream about Edward, that he snuck in my room and spent the night with me. I could feel his strong arms wrapped around my waist and his smooth kiss on my neck. I could feel his breath on my cheek and just as the dream got interesting, I was woke up by the sound of my alarm clock.
It took me an hour before I was ready to leave. I said goodbye to Dan and headed out. The drive was pretty boring, not very much traffic on the road and finally after an hour and a half I found the art store. It was perfect in size, and the lady behind the counter gave me one of their catalogs so I could order supplies and they could sent them to me, instead of driving all the way. I spent the day walking around Port Angeles. I called Dan, telling him that I got him something and that I was going to be home later on. He seemed okay, but told me to remember to be careful. As I hung up, I looked at my surroundings and realized that I was lost. It was beginning to get dark and after sometime I still couldn't find my truck. I went into a cafe and asked where I could find a map, but the man behind the counter seemed just as lost as I was. As I went out and turned the corner, I was walking down a dark alley, trying to get to the next street, when I heard a few masculine voices from behind me. They sounded drunk and as I turned around I saw that there were four of them, they had a six pack in their hands, and were stumbling in my direction. I quickened my pace and after a few minutes I thought I lost them. I turned onto another street and ended up running right into the guys, I guess they knew their way around. They started yelling the typical cat calls and when one of them touched my backside I keened him in the groin. He went down, wailing in pain, but his three buddies advanced forward. As I was waiting for the impending impact I heard the screeching of tires...
The silver Volvo, I recognized and as he got out of the driver seat and walked up to the four men, he told me to get into the car. I didn't hesitate and watched out the windshield as Edward somehow scared the men, enough so that he could get back into the driver seat. He put the car into gear and lunged it forward, making the men fall back and then run off, as we quickly spead down the street in the opposite direction. I was watching him the whole time as he looked directly into the lights of the oncoming traffic. The seconds ticked by before he spoke.
"I should go back there and rip those guys heads off."
"Um...no you shouldn't."
A few more seconds passed.
"Distract me Adin."
"What?"
"Distract me so I don't turn around."
I tried to think of anything that would work, because judging by the way he was driving, he really seemed like he wanted to kill those men.
"You should really put your seat belt on."
"What...you put your seat belt on. You have no idea what repulsive things those men were thinking."
"What and you do?"
With this he got silent and after a few minutes he pulled off the road, next to a curb and parked his car. When we both got out, he told me to look across the street and as I did I saw the familiar shape, that was my truck. I smiled and as he came to my side he seemed a little calmer, but was still a little tense.
"Adin."
"Yes."
"Would you care to have dinner with me?"
"Um...sure, that sounds good."
We walked next to each other and passed a few spots, but finally came up to a small restaurant, named Vito's. Edward opened the door for me and as we entered a man, wearing a tight white shirt came up to the two of us and welcomed us. Edward asked for a spot in the back and as we sat down the man informed us that he was going to be our waiter. This guy was build like a bodybuilder, but I could tell just by one look that he was gay and clearly interested in Edward. It was a little awkward sitting down and watching him swoon over Edwards every word, which wasn't much, and then when he talked to me it was as if I was invisible. I ordered an iced tea, while Edward ordered a glass of water. We talked a little as I was trying to figure out what I wanted. When the waiter came back, standing closer to Edward then normal, he asked if we were ready to order. Edward motioned with his hand in my direction, letting me order first. I ended up ordering the mushroom ravioli, while Edward said that he wasn't hungry.
Surprisingly the food didn't take very long to cook and when the waiter came back with my plate and set it down in front of me, he asked if Edward had changed his mind. Edward said that he hadn't and with that the waiter turned and walked away, seductively looking in his direction, hoping he would see him, but Edward never looked away from me. All I could do was raise my eyebrow and roll my eyes.
"You're really not going to eat anything?"
"No, I'm on a special diet."
"Oh okay."
I went to take a bite, but found myself suddenly not very hungry. I looked in Edwards direction, thinking about what had just happened, not forty minutes ago.
"Edward how did you know I was here? Did you follow me?"
"I..."
He trailed off.
"You have to give me some answers."
"Um...yes, no, to get to the other side, 1.77245..."
"I don't want to know what the square root of pi is."
"You knew that!"
"How did you know where I was?"
"I didn't."
That got under my skin and as I stood up to leave he lightly grabbed my hand.
"Uh, don't leave..."
So as I sat down, a little annoyed,
"So...did you follow me?"
"I feel very protective of you."
"So you followed me..."
"I wanted to keep my distance unless you needed my help, but when I heard what those vile, lowlifes were thinking..."
"Wait you said you heard what they were thinking. What so you read minds."
"I can read every mind in this room, apart from yours. It's very frustrating."
"So is there something wrong with me?"
"What...I tell you , I can read minds and you think there is something wrong with you."
He lightly laughed.
"Just tell me Edward what are you?"
"I'm...I was hoping to hear some of you theories."
"I have thought of everything from radioactive spiders to cryptonight."
"That's all superhero stuff right, what if I'm not the hero, I mean what if I'm the bad guy?"
"Your not. I can see what your doing, that its a front to keep everyone away."
"I don't have the strength anymore to avoid you."
I watched his as he said this, and he looked like he was in pain.
"So don't."
I tried to eat a few bites of the ravioli, but it just didn't taste all that welcoming. When I went to pay the bill Edward grabbed it before I had the chance and placed a fifty on the table and asked if I was ready. I nodded as I rolled my eyes in slight irritation. When we got outside Edward escorted me to my truck,
"Thank you Edward for saving me...again."
"Not a problem."
With that he leaned down and lightly kissed me on the lips and we parted ways. He sped off down the road and as I followed him, I soon lost sight of his taillights, speed demon I thought to myself.
When I arrived home Dan was in the living room watching sports. I pulled out my gift for him, he loved football and his favorite player was Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts. When I handed him the number eighteen jersey I saw the smile on his face.
"Adin, this is great. Thank you, but you didn't have to get me anything."
"I know but I wanted to, oh and here is rent. And I don't want to hear anything more about it."
I handed him the check for eight hundred dollars and saw how large his eyes got, before I turned and went to my room. I lightly closed the door behind me as I put my new paints in place on my desk. I sat down on my bed and felt something hard pressing against my hip and as I reached down to pull it out, I realized it was the book Jacob gave me. I flipped through the pages, when I ended up stopping on a page that said Cold Ones. I read through the section and realized that at last I got some answers. The cold ones were just that, cold to the touch, and never went into the light. They were extremely fast and extremely strong, and full of surprises, something not to be taken lightly. The section continued for a few pages and as I came to the last few words my brain finally made a few connections. I remembered how Edward was cold to the touch, how he got to me so fast and pushed Tyler's van away from crushing me. As ridiculous as it sounded, I figured out what Edward was. Edward Cullen was a vampire.
The next day I arrived at school in the parking lot, waiting to see him. I had text him earlier, "we need to talk when you get to school." He text me back okay, and asked if everything was okay, but I didn't text him back. I watched as he drove past me and parked close to back forest behind the school. I walked towards him and as I passed him I heard his footsteps behind me, following me. I walked into the forest, past the fallen trees and through the cold, greenery. I stepped over a log and when I wound my way past a large redwood, I set my bag down on the ground and took a few steps away from it. He was still behind me so I kept my voice at an even level.
"You impossibly fast, and strong. You skin is pale white and ice cold, your eyes change color and sometimes you speak as if your from a different time. You never eat or drink anything, you don't go out into the sunlight....how old are you?"
He waited a few moments..."Seventeen."
"How long have you been seventeen?"
"A while."
As he said this I felt my heart start to race, but it wasn't from fear of dieing, it was from being right.
"I know what you are."
"Say it, out loud...say it."
"Vampire."
"Are you afraid?"
I thought about that for a moment. After everything I had been through, and honestly if he wanted to kill me, he had many chances already. So I turned around to face him, looking at his hard expression.
"No."
"Then ask me the most basic question, what do we eat?"
I stared at him, possibly starting to regret my decision of coming into the forest.
"You won't hurt me."
We were silent for a moments before he grabbed my hand and led me deeper into the forest.
"Where are we going?"
"Up the mountain, out of the cloud back. You need to see what I look like in the light."
After he said this he wrapped my arm around his neck, telling me to hang on as he started to run at an amazingly fast speed up the mountain. I felt the breeze hitting my face and watching the colors of the trees whiz by in a smear of blue, gray and green. When he stopped and let me go, I looked around and sat there was a large rock where the sunlight was peaking through. As Edward quickly ran up onto the rock and unbuttoned his shirt, I saw the light hair of his treasure trail, but was distracted when the sunlight hit his skin. I watched in amazement as he started to shimmer and gleam like a thousand jewels.
"This is why we don't show ourselves in the sunlight. People would know that we are different."
"Your beautiful, it's like diamonds."
"Beautiful, this is the skin of a killer Adin."
He buttoned up his shirt and walked down the rock facing me.
"I don't believe that."
"That's because you believe the lie. Everything about me is meant to attract you, my scent, my face, even my voice. As if I would need any of that."
At that moment he vanished in a blur of color and appeared ontop of a higher rock and screamed,
"As if you could outrun me."
He sped off again and appeared in front of me,
"As if you could fight me off."
He ripped a large tree root clean out of the ground and threw it across the open forest and I watched as it shattered into pieces as if hit the ground. I was shocked at what I was seeing.
"I'm designed to kill."
"I don't care."
"I've killed people before."
"It doesn't matter."
"I wanted to kill you when we first met, thats why I couldn't be so close to you. Your blood is toxic to me. I'm fighting it but I want you at all times. I cant read your mind, but you have to tell me...what your thinking."
At this point he slowly pushed me against the rock wall and had a hand on either side of me, trapping me between him and the rock itself.
"Now I'm afraid."
He let on arm drop, "good."
"I'm not afraid of you, I'm only afraid of loosing you, I feel like your going to disappear out of my life, leaving me alone in darkness."
"I won't leave you, but I want you to know there are dangers of us being together. I'm still not sure that I can control myself."
"I know you can."
I went to kiss him and I felt his arm travel up my shirt, but after a few moments he pulled away.
"I trust you Edward."
"Don't."
"I'm here with you, I trust you, just give me a chance. So what is your special diet."
He was silent for a moment, before he finally spoke.
"My family and I feed on animal blood but there are others out there that feed on human blood."
"Alight."
I smiled and nodded my head in understanding.
"You don't know how long I've waited for you...and so the lion fell in love with the lamb."
"What a stupid lamb."
"What a sick, masochistic lion."
With that we both shared a smile and he gently leaned forward and kissed me. He wrapped his arm around me as we walked back to fetch my bag.
"So Edward I have a question."
"Yes."
"Are we partners?"
"Yes, I believe we are."
I smiled as Edward grabbed my hand and raced down the mountain and grabbed my bag, handing it to me. We raced to biology at normal human speed and we arrived a few minutes late, but thankfully the teacher wasnt there yet. As Edward and I sat down next to each other the professor came in and said today was a free day to work on other work. Edward pulled out a book while I pulled out my sketch book. I was drawing in his face when his face inspired me. I finally got passed my art block.
"Edward can we ditch again?"
"Sure after class, where do you want to go?"
"My house. My uncle will be gone and I have an idea."
As the bell rang, we both raced out of class and headed for my truck. We climbed in the cab and drove to my house. When we arrived, like I thought my uncle was gone. I unlocked the front door and as Edward closed it behind us we walked towards my bedroom. I unveiled the unfinished renaissance painting and watched Edwards expression as he looked at all the details. It was a few silent minutes before he spoke,
"I've passed this painting for the last few weeks and haven't looked once, but I've wanted to, and yet I'm glad I didn't."
"What?"
"We don't sleep and so I enjoy watching you sleep, it's quite beautiful. You talk in your sleep and some of the sweetest things."
I was shocked, "you watch me when I sleep."
"I feel like I get to see more of you, besides in the daytime."
I nodded my head, "so what type of things do I say?"
"Well you've said you missed your parents. You've also called out my name and have said some other things."
I was a little nervous, "what other things have I said."
"Well you moaned out my name, and asked me to touch you. It then got to a point where you asked me to give it to you."
I was blushing at this point and couldn't face him. I soon felt his arms wrap around my waist and he leaned to whisper in my ear.
"Don't worry, you have nothing to be ashamed of. I would do anything you asked me to."
"Mmm...are you sure about that?"
"Absolutely."
I turned to face him, still in his arms. I started kissing him and as his kisses got a little rougher, I moaned and led him to my bed. I laid down, feeling the softness of my bed envelop me as he laid on top of me. I could feel his bulge straining against his pants, I lightly stroked it with my fingers, and when he finally stopped to look in my eyes, I thought I might of done something wrong.
"Is everything okay Edward?"
"Yes, are you sure you want to do this?"
"I am, if you are."
I nodded his head as he lifted off me and started to remove his shoes and pants. I took that as my cue to do the same. I slid out of my shorts and shoes, and got underneath my blankets. While underneath I took off my shirt and watched as Edward slowly revealed his pale glory. His chest was beautifully white and as he slid out of his boxers I watched as his 8 ½ inch rod smacked against his stomach. I suddenly got a yearning for a taste of Edward. He shut my curtain, made sure my door was locked and finally got into bed with me. While he did this I slid out of my underwear and tossed them on the floor. Edward felt my body and when I thought I couldn't take it anymore I told him how I felt.
"Edward I'm a virgin, and I really want you to be my first and only."
"I will be glad to, I know it might sound like a line, but I'm a virgin as well. I never had the desire to have sex with anyone, until now. I want you so bad, it hurts."
I turned around and faced the wall as Edward snuggled close to me and licked his fingers, sliding them down between my ass. I felt the slickness of his finger as he gently pushed inside me. I moaned out,
"Edward just enter me, please."
With that he removed his finger and I felt the head of his cock push against my rosebud. It took a few moments, but finally he pushed into me. We were fucking dry and there was a large amount of pain, but the sick part of me, kind of liked it. Edward paused every few moments between pushing in another inch. After a few minutes he was completely in me. He swung his leg over my hip, pulling me closer. As he started to pull out there was a slick noise that made me all the hornier. I slid down, so that he was completely on top of my. He pulled out of me and asked me to turn around.
"I want to see your face."
I turned around and finally saw the lust in his eyes, which were loosing their luster. I felt him re-enter me and as he did, I couldn't help be moan out. I could hear his animal like growl as he was pushing into me. The legs of my bed were squeaking and finally after a few powerful thrusts the bed gave way.
"Oh, give it to me Edward."
"Take it all my love."
He continued to thrust, and with each pass I felt like I was close to the edge. There was some pain at certain spots, but I wanted more of it. I could feel his dick being swallowed by my anus, and as the blood began to rust to my head, Edward growled like a beast.
"Uh...Adin I'm close."
"Cum in me."
I didn't have to ask him twice, after a few passes he roared out.
"I'm cumming."
"Give it to me."
And he did, I could feel him cum streams of hot seed into my ass. I reached down and felt some of Edwards cum leaking out of my ass. As I brought some of it to my mouth I let out a slight sign of ecstacy.
"You taste great Edward."
"Thank you, I want to know if you do to."
He slid down underneath the covers and took my flaccid cock into his mouth. It was only a few seconds before I grew to my full 6 inches. Edward started sucking me at an unbelievalbly quick speed, but slowed down, wanting me to last for a little while.
"Oh Edward, suck me."
The beastly moans coming from under my blankets, would've made anyone else scared, but it turned me on. The minutes went by, when at last I felt my climax was close.
"Edward I'm going to cum."
With that he picked up the pace, hungry to make me cum, and he was richly rewarded when after a few more passes I clinched the blankets and felt the cum shoot out of my cock and into Edwards waiting mouth. He drank it all down and as he rose from underneath the blankets, and laid next to me I saw the seriousness in his expression.
"Edward what's the matter?"
"Nothing, I'm glad that we made love and I want you to know how special it was and always will be to me."
"So you don't think I'm easy for giving it up so easily?"
"Never, I know that you would only give in to someone you care about."
"No Edward...I would only give it up to someone I loved."
There was a silence that filled the room. It wasn't until he spoke that I thought I might of made a mistake.
"You love me?"
"Do you love me?"
"Adin, I love you more than life itself."
"I love you too Edward Cullen."
