Lives Changed 8-B Dinner and a Trial.
Rich "Ace" Mason had called Attorney General Adam Graham and invited him to a dinner with the President in the residence, then had gone and joined Bennie upstairs in the family room where the two cuddled and quietly talked the afternoon away. Ace was just getting up to go use the bathroom when Ben walked in. Smiling Ace just told him to hold the thought and that he would be right back.
A mile and a half away Adam sat in his office going over case reports, and making notes on a large yellow legal pad. The thought of dinner with the president stuck way in the back of his mind as he reviewed the Peterson case that had been appealed. The thought of not having to cook for himself was an added bonus, since he hated cooking.
The drive to the White House should have taken no more than ten minutes, but it was rush hour and traffic was stop and go. Things were a mess, but this was a normal work night so Adam just gritted his teeth. On the drive over Adam finally had a chance to think about why he was invited to dinner and what it could mean for him. He was worried that maybe he had messed up or even upset the President somehow and was about to lose his job, but then that would have happened during normal working hours, not at a private dinner.
The guards at the west gate were expecting Adam when he showed up and so with a quick check of his Id and cruiser led him to the front door where he was met by Johnny Hawks and led up to the residence. After saying hi to everyone and being given a coffee, Adam sat with Ace and Bennie and the three quietly spoke until Gloria came and told them that Dinner was about to be served. During dinner the conversation remanded natural, there wasn't any talk of work or things of that nature.
With dinner over Ben and Adam headed to the treaty room while Bennie went back to finish his homework and Ace was busy talking with Dusty in the front room. "Adam," Ben Started. "I invited you here because I have a special appointment for you, one that will last either a few weeks or a few months, it doesn't matter, but once this appointment is over you can come back to you job as Attorney General, or I can make you an ambassador, the choice will be yours."
"Well sir, I would like to continue as the Attorney General, I feel that in this position I am making a bit of a difference. May I ask what this special appointment is and where it will take me?" Adam asked.
"The assignment is in Naples Florida, you are going to be sitting as a judge for a couple of cases down there, it seems as if one of the judges had to recuse himself and that has left them short." Ben stated.
"I see, may I be so bold as to say that I am surprised that the D.A. didn't go to another court in Florida and ask for help that is what I would have done." Adam spoke up.
"I think the D.A down there felt that if he went that way he might not get a fair chance when the trials started so he decided to go outside the state for help.
"I see, so I am going to Naples to be a judge, sound like a challenge for me."
"It will be, I can't tell you who you are presiding over, since that could give you a biased opinion."
Laughing Adam looked at Ben before he spoke. "Sir, with all due respect, I know what is happening down there, I know that the governor and his brother are going on trial along with a few others, and honestly sir, I know about the Daniels situation, but I shall endeavor to give these trials a fair and partial hearing."
"Thank you Adam, I will have Ace phone Dylan Masters and let him know you will be coming and to have a place set up for you."
"Thank you sir, but I would prefer to phone Dylan myself. We did go to school together though I am surprised he went and became a D.A, he was always hot to defend the underdog."
"Well I guess in a way he is still doing that. I will have the letter appointing special judge ready and on my desk first thing in the morning. I would suggest you hand over you job to your assistant until you come back."
"Thank you again sir, and I will have my end all ready by the end of the work day tomorrow."
"That will be fine, I think hurricane Mary should be passed by then, so I should think you might want to head down either tomorrow night or early the following morning. I will have one of my small jets take you down."
"Again thank you sir, but I would prefer to drive, I know it is a few hundred miles, but I doubt the trials will start until after the cleanup is done."
"You could be right, but let me fly you down and you can get a rental. Off the record, since it is a working move you can bill everything to your office, if they have a problem with it then I will handle it.
"Well, since you put it that way." Adam laughed and stood. "Now if you will excuse me sir, I have to make some calls and get packed."
"Sure and Adam I will have your flight leave at 11:00 am how does that sound?"
"Perfect sir."
As the president and Adam were sitting in the treaty room discussing Adams special appointment, Malcolm Daniels and Patrick Jacobs along with Malcolm's brothers Aaron and Zeke were sitting in a hotel room in Orlando Florida. All four boys were dressed and just waiting for Tony Marchand and Donnie Osborne to come and pick them up to take them to Malcolm's rally. Malcolm's father had been flown back to Naples to be with the boy's grandfather. Once Richard Daniels knew that his dad was going to be okay he would continue with his campaign for being the governor of Florida. Richard had spoken with Malcolm and the two young boys and told them that he would be a few days behind their campaign, but he would meet them all at home within the next two weeks. Patrick's parents had stayed with the boys so that at least there would be some parental guidance and someone who deal with the hotel staff when needed.
While Patrick, Aaron and Zeke were down swimming Malcolm spent a few hours writing and going over everything that he was going to say that
night. At lunchtime Tony got all four boys together in Malcolm suite and then ordered lunch to be brought up for them. Ever since Jacksonville Tony had been very protective not letting the boys go anywhere without at least six security personnel around them. The fact that Maurice Marshall had gotten so close to entering Malcolm's room made Tony wonder what kind of security the hotel had. After learning the facts Tony phoned his supervisor and had asked him if it was all right for him to book the whole floor of any hotel that Malcolm and his family were going to be staying at, getting the okay not just from ace but also from the president himself made Tony feel a bit better. So when everyone was driving down to Orlando Tony called ahead and had booked the whole top floor of the Marriott Hotel with express orders that the top floor could only be accessed by key. When Tony made that request the hotel clerk became very agitated, saying that he could not do such a thing without express permission from the head office and that there was no way that he was going to do that. It was at that point the Tony told the hotel clerk to get the manager on the line and not to waste anymore time. After speaking with the hotel manager and getting assurances that the whole top floor would be locked off the metal cleaning staff would be on the floor by the time they arrived.
As the bus rolled down the highway Malcolm was sound asleep on the backseat while Patrick read is Zeke and Aaron. The tour bus had just reached the turn at Daytona beach Florida when they were stopped by a roadblock of four black Hummers. Tony who had been sitting at the front stood up and stepped out as soon as the door was open and walked towards the first person he saw. The man stood about 6 foot to with a heavy receding hairline, his suit spoke lots pointing out that he may be a federal agent. Standing in front of the person Tony first took a look around before reaching into his jacket and pulling out his Secret Service identification. "Sir, I am Tony Marchand with the Secret Service I am asking you to remove this roadblock immediately and let these cars and this bus through." Tony spoke softly.
"Agent Marchand, I am Special Agent in charge Pruitt and I am here to arrest one Malcolm Daniels on the charge of first-degree murder. Now I am asking you did Mr. Daniels is on that bus." Pruitt stated arrogantly.
"Yes Mr. Daniels is on that bus and know you are not arresting him as he is under federal and presidential protection, as for the murder charge that has been proven to be false sense at the time Mr. Daniels was nowhere in or around Naples Florida nor does Mr. Daniels own any sort of weapon. Now again I am asking you to remove your vehicles and let us through or do I have to phone your boss in Washington and my boss in Washington who will then go to the president and that the president will call your boss and your boss will phone you back and you Sir will be out of a job. Now what will it be. Tony stated getting slightly angry.
"Agent Marchand I have a job to do and you are hindering it now you will step aside and let me do my job or these men my command will put you down now what will it be."
"I see, well I will be right back." Tony snapped as he walked away.
Casey Watkins who had been in the last vehicle and had witnessed the confrontation between Tony and Pruitt had called all her men together and together they walked up to where Pruitt was standing. Casey could hear Tony on the phone but she ignored that ordering her men to move the vehicles and to arrest anyone that stop them Casey stood in front of Pruitt and glared at him. Her small figure was dwarfed by Pruitt but she stood her ground and watched as her men moved towards the Hummers. "Lieut." Pruitt started. "If any of those men get into one of those vehicles they will be charged with theft and if they resist I will shoot them."
"Mr. I don't know who the heck you are and I really don't give a dang, but those vehicles will be moved one way or another do I make myself clear. Furthermore shouldn't anyone applying then be shot by any one of your men I will have you arrested along with the rest of your group here for attempted murder and 12 counts of attempted kidnapping and if you think I am bluffing just try me." Casey spoke softly though Pruitt could hear the sharp edge of anger in her voice which made him take a step back. Casey was about to say some more when Tony walked up.
"Mr. Pruitt, you have a side arm?" Tony asked.
"Yes I have my side arm, it is standard issue and all agent must wear when on duty." Pruitt snapped.
"Very well, I am asking you right now move your side arm and put it on the ground." Tony asked politely.
"Agent Marchand I will not remove my side. I am a special agent with the FBI now stand aside and let me do my job."
"Mr. Pruitt, I just spoke with your director in Washington, he told me that you had been suspended pending an investigation into your conduct towards Tyrone Jackson, and his arresting of the Richardson brothers and those involved in the conspiracy to steal funds from the state of Florida, and other activities that they had been tied to. The director has informed me that I am to place you under arrest and the charge right now is attempted kidnapping."
The agents with Mr. Pruitt stood in stunned silence as they watch this diminutive woman place handcuffs on their boss. They're not heard what either trooper Casey Watkins or Tony Marchand had said. As Casey was leading Pruitt away the other FBI agents started reaching for their weapons when they all heard a quiet voice telling them to stand still. With Pruitt out of the way in the cars moved Tony and his group were soon in Orlando and were booking into their suites. The first thing that Aaron and Zeke wanted to know was in place had a swimming pool and that they could go swimming since they really had nothing else to do. Getting an okay from Malcolm, Zeke and Aaron along with poor state troopers were soon headed back down to the swimming pool, while Malcolm once more went over his campaign speech and Patrick stretched out on one of the beds watching the news.
In Naples Florida, hurricane Mary had finally died out in the city was getting back to normal. People were out helping clean up the streets and going over the damages to both houses and businesses. Ian Stillwater's and Jamie Marshall both walk out of the school only see that Ian's car had been crushed. Seeing this Jamie started laughing, as it seemed that Ian's was the only car to be damaged. As the two were standing there Kurt Bronson and Sally Gomez walked up. "Jamie," Sally started. "Where are you and Mr. Stillwater's staying?" She asked.
"Miss Gomez, I can't tell you where Marshall and I will be staying." Ian said staying in the role of the guard.
"Oh, well I was just wondering if Jamie thank you Mr. Stillwater's would like to come for dinner, it won't be anything fancy but it will sure be what we've had for the past week." Sally laughed, then continued. "Kurt will be with us and I just thought it would be something nice for Jamie." Sally said.
"When would you like this for dinner Miss Gomez?" Ian asked.
"What tomorrow night be okay?"
"That will be fine, what time would you like is there?" Ian asked as he looked at Jamie.
"Would six o'clock be okay for you?"
"Yes six will be fine, we'll see you then you both have a good day."
"You remember where I live don't you Jamie?" Sally asked with a slight smile.
"Yeah I remember I'll see at six, bye guys." Jamie answered.
I see Ian and Jamie were checking into a motel, Adam Graham had flown in and was checking in to the Bellasera hotel.
Having put his clothes away Adam sat and was going over the papers for the trials that Dylan Masters had faxed to him. Adam finished the papers and was going through the photo copied pages of the book that Marshall had left behind when he ran across the initials MMJ, with the notations paid out then the amount. The figures were large anywhere for twenty five thousand to one hundred thousand all going to Marshall and the Richardson brothers.
After eating dinner, Dylan Masters left his family and headed over to the hospital where he was to meet up with Liza Patterson and Sam Johnson. Together the three were going to talk with Brady Martin and hear what he had to say. Dylan had already talked with the U.S Marshalls and if what Brady told them could be proven then the kid was going into witness protection that is after he testified.
When Dylan got to the hospital everything was quiet, meeting up with Liza and Sam the three made their way to the elevator where they were stopped by security. "Excuse me people, but may I ask why you're here at this time of night." The guard asked.
"We are here on business, which does not include answering questions from you." Liza stated as she flashed her badge.
"I see well I will have to call up and let them know that you are coming up, since you are heading to the prison ward." The guard stated haughtily.
"I don't think I am the District Attorney and should you continue to bother us I might find some charge to hit you with. Now should anyone meet us when we get off the elevator I will come back down and make sure you are spending a few nights in the coldest, darkest hole I can find?"
"I see, well I have my orders to follow and they include informing the people up there that they have visitors coming and I also have to tell them who you are visiting."
"In this case you don't have to do either. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes sir."
Upstairs, the guards were sitting back relaxing, having just finished their rounds and seeing that everyone was okay and that they had all eaten and returned their plates and plastic forks. One guard was just taking a sip of his coffee when Dylan and his group stepped off the elevator, spitting his coffee out he gasped and then in anger he yelled at the three." Just who the heck are you people?"
"I am Dylan Master the D.A and these two are with the Naples police. We are here to see a Brady Martin."
"No one is allowed up here after six at night, no matter who you are." The guard snapped.
"Officer, if we do not see Mr. Martin in the next three minutes, I will have you arrested for obstruction of justice, hindering a police investigation and anything else I can think of, now what will it be." Dylan snapped, his temper starting to boil over with all the delays they were facing.
When the three reached Brady's room they all realized that Brady wasn't going to be talking to anyone. Stepping back Sam ordered the room secured and all the cells locked down. He then ordered all the guards to be at the front desk in five minutes. Grabbing the nearest phone he called his captain and asked for the forensic team and more officers to take over at the hospital.
Sam took the next ten minutes to explain why he needed them, but soon he had the officers he would need and they would be under his and Liza's command. As Sam was busy on the Phone, both Dylan and Liza had entered Brady's cell and without touching anything they took a good look around. Liza was the first to see the scribbling's on some wrinkled papers. Reading the first page Liza smiled. "Dylan, is a deathbed confession admissible in court?" Liza asked.
"Depends on the situation. Why?"
"Because I think we have a confession here and it looks like it was written either yesterday or this morning, I think Brady knew he was going to die."
"Well I would have to ask the judge, but, if this is right then I can't see him withholding it."
"Good, then when forensics get here I will have them bag and tag it, before taking it back to the station and going over it.
On the other side of the state Malcolm had just finished his campaign speech to a standing ovation. Tired and worn out Malcolm and his family made their way back to their hotel rooms. Just as the boys were about to enter the elevator a single gunshot sounded the bullet hitting the door just above Malcolm's head. Instantly the hotel was locked down, all doors guarded by state troopers as Tony and the rest of the secret service team pulled everyone from the elevator and rushed them into the manager's office. "You know Tony I am really starting to get pissed off with everyone shooting at me or my family and friends. I thought you people were good at this sort of stuff." Malcolm snapped.
"Malcolm we are good, but we can't predict what everyone is going to do. The police will get whoever it is and then hopefully you will be free to finish this campaign and get home. I know you mad, but yelling at me won't help you."
"I know and I am sorry, I am just scared that is all."
"We all are scared, hopefully with the trials starting this week it will be over for you and you can be a normal kid."
"Funny, after this I doubt I will ever be called normal again."
With everyone laughing at what Malcolm had said the tension had been broken a bit, though no one could leave the office yet so relaxing was about all they could do. Malcolm was curled up on one end of the couch with Aaron snuggled tight to him while Patrick had Zeke snuggled tight to him. Both boys holding on so tight that it felt like they never were going to let go.
It was about three in the morning when Casey Watkins and two other officers came in and quietly talked with Tony, just after she left Tony woke everyone and rushed them up to their suites. Donnie stood just inside Malcolm's suite, as the four boys crawled into bed and fell back to sleep.
With everyone in their rooms Tony walked outside and found Casey standing in the parking lot. "Tony I don't think Malcolm was the target. This looks gang land to me." Casey stated as Tony walked up.
"I don't understand, how could you come to that finding so quickly?" Tony asked.
"Because we have a victim that is a known gang member, I think the shot that came inside was just a spray and pray shot."
"Well I hope someone has a handle on this, I want the boys out of here first thing. Malcolm is mad as hell right now."
"Honestly Tony, I don't blame him, if it was just him, he probably wouldn't care, but it is his family and friends that he worries about."
"I know. I have feeling Malcolm might send them home after this."
"It would be safer for the families."
"True, but Patrick won't leave Malcolm's side."
"You will have to make Patrick see that it is for his own good then, won't you,"
"You put a lot of faith in me Watkins, faith I don't have in myself."
"That is bull Tony and you know it, you wouldn't be doing this job if you didn't have faith in yourself, besides you have a lot of boys looking up to you, not just as a guardian, but as a friend also. That doesn't come from lack of faith."
"Okay enough with the sermon, just make sure the buses are ready to take everyone to the airport."
"Airport?"
"Yes, I think I will have them fly to Miami, be quicker and safer."
"Okay, you're the boss."
Monday morning in Naples was a bedlam of rush hour traffic. It was a good thing Adam had booked a room close to the court house and that his taxi driver was able to find a few short cuts. Once inside Adam headed for the Security station where he showed his letter from the President and asked where he could find both Judges Spencer and Frost and DA Masters. The Guard then called Masters' office and had Adam wait until someone came for him. This was Adam's first clue that the day was going to be a hassle.
As Adam was waiting for Dylan to show up he grabbed another coffee and had just taken his first sip when he was bumped from behind, his coffee going all over his clean suit. Cursing to himself Adam threw the cup into the trash and stormed back towards the security station. Getting there just as Dylan walked up. "Hi you must be Adam Graham the special judge." Dylan said as he stuck out his hand.
"Yes I am, nice to meet you Mr. Masters, now is there some place where I can get changed, it seems like my day is off to a great start."
"Yes you can use your chambers, but I also need to talk with you before the trial starts"
"Okay, but which one are we dealing with first?"
"We are dealing with Elizabeth Daniels and her charges of assault on a minor, disturbing the peace. Mrs. Daniels is also known to shoot her mouth off in court."
"I see, but I thought she had other charges also why aren't we dealing with them all at once?"
"We wanted to, but her lawyer stated that he wanted two separate trials. It is the second trial I wish to talk to you about."
"Is her lawyer going to be present, I can't do this with just you and you know that."
"Yes I have informed Mr. Jefferies that I was going to be talking with you, so he should be here."
"Very well then, let me change and we can have this chat, and get things rolling, I have trials in Washington waiting for me."
Having changed and now sitting behind his temporary desk, Adam listened to both Masters and Jefferies as they argued back and forth before he stopped them both in their tracks. "Mr. Jefferies first off I want you to understand that I am not into wasting a lot of time, so I am ordering you to inform Mrs. Daniels that all charges against her will be dealt with at one sitting. I know it is her right to have separate trials, but I am not going to spend money foolishly. Mr. Masters I am going to adjourn this case until such times as all witnesses are available, which mean that I want them here by Tuesday of next week."
"Yes sir, I will contact the people and make it so." Masters said sheepishly.
"Judge Graham, I cannot in all fairness let Mrs. Daniels deal with everything at once, but I will inform her of your decision." Jefferies huffed.
"Mr. Jefferies how many times has this case been delayed?" Adam asked.
"I think three times so far, well four now, but that was because we weren't ready."
"Well you have a week to get ready for all her charges. I will not adjourn her cases again. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes your Honor.
"Mr. Jefferies you are free to leave, Mr. Masters I need a word with you on other matters."
"Yes sir." Dylan said with a slight smile.
Once Jefferies had left Adam turned to Dylan and gave out a hearty chuckle. "Sorry, that guy is a fool. Now how do you stand on the Richardson cases?"
"Sir I have a very strong case, though I am worried that their lawyer is going to force us to bring in the actual book that one witness found and read. That book is locked up in Washington with the Secret Service."
"You mean that Rich Mason has the book?"
"I guess so, I don't know who Tony gave it too, all I know is that he sent it there to keep it safe."
"Well I will call Mason, but only if I need the book. Were there any photocopies made?"
"Yes sir, and I personally sent Greg Walkerton copies of it all, so he can't say he doesn't have them."
Okay, when does the trial for the men start?"
"This afternoon, but we can now bring it up to this morning since we have put Daniels off."
"Do it, and Let Mr. Walkerton know that I will not accept delays?"
"Yes sir, I will be more than happy to let him know that." Dylan said with a laugh as he left Adam standing in his office.
Malcolm and his group had just left Orlando and were on the highway heading down to Miami. The boys were all curled up, Zeke and Aaron were sleeping as Malcolm, stared out the window at the passing scenery, his mind miles away. Patrick was lost in a new book he had found and was enjoying the story, he just couldn't put the book down, the author had him spell bound.
Having just finished a chapter Patrick swore, then looking up he saw Tony and Donnie staring at him. "What the girl turned on the guy." Patrick said blushing.
"A good book is it?' Donnie asked with a chuckle.
"Uh huh, this guy keeps you wanting more, maybe when I am done you can read it."
"I read it last night, while, you guys were sleeping, and I said it worse about her than you did, but enjoy it and try not to curse anymore."
"Okay, I'll try, but I bet you swore more than I did."
"Yes I did, then also I am older."
"Yup, you're almost as ancient as Tony here." Patrick laughed.
Tony was going to respond when his phone chirped and stopped all bantering. "Marchand."
"Tony, this is Dylan Master, Naples DA, I have to inform you that Judge Graham has ordered all witnesses to the Elizabeth Daniels case be in court next Tuesday, no more delays or excuses." Dylan stated.
"Does the Judge know that two of the witnesses are under protection?"
"Yes and he knows who they are."
"Well we should be home by then. I know Malcolm is going to need a few days to relax, so do you think you can hold off with putting either of the boys on the stand for a couple days?"
"I can try, but Mr. Jefferies might fight my asking."
"Well do what you can, if not then we'll be there on Tuesday."
Hanging up, Tony turned in his seat and looked at Malcolm. "How does he do it?" Tony thought to himself. "That boy must be going through hell. He's a lot like you were Andy, So strong and kind." The thought of his son made Tony really stop to think. As he sat in his bus seat he remembered the call from his boss telling him that his son was dead. Tears filled Tony's eyes as he thought of his son. Looking out the window, Tony didn't see Aaron come up and sit beside him. "Mr. Tony why you crying?" Aaron asked in a quiet voice.
Picking Aaron up and sitting him in his lap, Tony smiled. "I was just remembering my son." Tony answered in a whisper.
"How come you don't see him?"
"He's with the Angels now Aaron. He would have been Malcolm's age now."
"Why did the angels take him away, you're a good man."
"I don't know why they took him, but he is with them and watching over all of us."
"Okay, I sorry." Aaron said as he Snuggled closer to Tony and soon fell asleep.
The Naples courtroom was packed when Judge Graham walked in. Once seated he looked out over the crowd before he looked at the two tables before him. "Ladies and Gentlemen, I will not tolerate any outbursts from the crowd nor from the defence, if you can't be quiet I shall have you removed. Now are all people here?" Adam asked in a loud voice.
"Mr. Masters for the State." Dylan stood and stated.
"Greg Walkerton for the Defence, your Honor we ask that the charges against my client be dismissed on grounds of lack of evidence." Walkerton asked.
"Mr. Walkerton, I do not think that the state would continue with said charges if they didn't have the evidence. Your request is denied." Adam stated firmly.
"Yes your honor." Walkerton said as he sat.
"Mr. Masters please state your case."
"Yes your honor. Sir what we have here is a case of pure and simple theft?" For over an hour Dylan stood and spoke outlining the state's case.
"Mr. Walkerton, do you want to open now or wait till the state rests?" Adam asked.
"We'll wait your honor." Walkerton answered without rising.
"Very well, Mr. Masters call your first witness."
"Yes sir, as my first witness I call Tyrone Jackson." Dylan called out.
"Sheriff bringing Tyrone Jackson." Judge Graham called out.
As Tyrone was walking down to the stand Dylan managed to notice that Jamie was sitting out in the foyer, with him was Ian Stillwaters and the two were quietly talking. Dylan also noticed the Sheriff looking around at the people, seemingly nervous andout of place. Once sworn in and seated Dylan stood and walked to the front of his table. "Mr. Jackson, who do you work for?"
"I am with the FBI." Tyrone answer clearly.
"How long have you been with them?"
"Three years, prior to being sent down here."
"Why were you sent here?"
"I was assigned to look into an embezzlement case."
"And how long have you been working on this case?"
"Another three years. I went undercover as an employee of the school board."
For the rest of the morning Dylan questioned Tyrone, then the Judge broke for lunch. Dylan was still seated at his table when he noticed the sheriff talking to a couple of men that had been sitting in the back of the room all morning. Leaving the court house Dylan was going down the steps when he heard what sounded like a gun shot coming from his right. Racing down to the side walk, he was pushed aside as Jamie Marshall ran past. going to where he thought he had heard the shot come from, Dylan saw Ian layingon the ground. Racing up Dylan knelt and saw taht Ian was still alive quickly called 9-1-1. "Ian, stay with us man." Dylan called out.
"I'm trying to, did Jamie get away?"
"He ran past me, is he the one that shot you?"
"No, I told him to run."
"Well he did that. Now relax the ambulance is on it's way, can you tell me who shot you?"
"One of the sheriffs' he had some others with him."
"Okay, I know who it was then, but I can't do anything right now."
"Do what you have to, but Jamie must be protected, he knows a lot."
"When we find him I promise you he will be protected."
"Thank you." Ian whispers then passed out.
Jamie had seen the three men walking towards them and froze, his muscle tense as he watched one man as he reached under his jacket. Ian seeing Jamie frozen turned to look back and as the man pulled his gun out, Ian had just enough time to yell at Jamie. "Run Jamie, don't stop."
Jamie started to turn just as the man pulled the trigger, seeing Ian falling Jamie started running, pushing people aside as he raced down the sidewalk. Tears filled Jamie's eyes and he had a hard time seeing where he was going, but he didn't stop till he felt a hand on his arm and a calm voice calling out to him.
