Love at the Bus Stop - 4
Wow, that certainly counted as the best Valentine's day ever. The way the table was set out, it was all very romantic, I couldn't help but get teary eyed. Scott really had gone to a lot of trouble, how did I ever get so lucky to find such a fantastic boyfriend? Dinner, dancing, lots of kissing, it was a very memorable evening. We talked a lot too, about our childhoods, our dreams for the future etc, really got to know each other better. I also found out that his birthday was coming up in a few weeks, I shall definitely have to do something special then.
Probably the most romantic part of the evening though, was when I gave him the chain. The whole thing was kind of last minute, I wanted something special to give to him, but I didn't know what. Then I remembered the chain that grandma had left me, it was tradition to give it to someone you loved (I suppose she was thinking I'd give it to a girl, but that ain't gonna happen!!) so I knew that would be perfect. I had a free period monday morning, so I snuck off to the mall to a jewellery shop, to have two charms attached, the letters J and S, and I said I would pick it up at lunch time. While Scott was getting lunch, I told him I was going to the loo, and I went to the shop and collected it. After what Scott had done, I worried the chain might seem cheap, but later he said it was the most valuable thing he would ever have, because it would always remind him of our love. I'll say it again, I'm lucky to have such a great boyfriend.
All too soon though, his mother arrived home, and after a long goodbye, she took me home. It wasn't long after I arrived when mum got home from work. She asked how the assignment went, I told her it was a very productive evening. I felt bad about lying to her though, I wish I could tell her that I'm in love with Scott, and I want to spend all my time with him. The only time Scott and I get to see each other during the week is on the bus ride to and from school, lunch times, and the couple of subjects we have together. There isn't exactly a lot we can do during that time, which really only leaves weekends. Now that the school year is well underway, so is football training, and since Scott is a football player, that's going to take up some of his weekend time, hence why we didn't see much of each other this weekend. The only place we can be alone together is his place, but mum might get suspicious if I spend too much time there. I suppose I could invite Scott over while mum was at work, but it feels dishonest doing it in secret. I want mum to know about us, I want to be open and honest, and yet I'm afraid at the same time. All these thoughts tumbled through my head when I finally drifted off to sleep.
The alarm woke me up the next morning, so I leaned over and hit it a few times till it stopped. I'm sure they make alarms deliberately annoying so you'll get up, even if it's just to switch the damn thing off. I went through the usual morning routine, and walked into the kitchen to get some breakfast. I saw mum was already sat at the kitchen table, her breakfast half eaten in front of her.
"You okay mum?" I asked.
"Yeah I'll be fine, just got a bit of a headache." she replied.
I grabbed some breakfast for myself, and sat down beside her. She was a good person my mum, after my dad died she worked very hard to make a good life for the both of us. She was still young, she had me when she was a teenager. At times she seemed more like a friend than a mum, we talked about all sorts of things. Except the fact that I was gay of course, the one thing I could never bring myself to tell her. She always talked about having grandchildren one day, how would she react to having a gay son? I sat there eating in silence, all these thoughts once again running around my head. A news bulletin came on the radio, and there was a report of a gay bashing in the city overnight. I decided to test the waters and see what my mum's thoughts were on the subject.
"Geez that's pretty bad, a guy getting beaten up just cause he's gay." I said.
"Unfortunately it does happen Jason, there are a lot of nut cases out there." she said.
"Doesn't seem all that wrong to me, if a guy wants to go with a guy, let em. What do you think?" I asked, hoping she would agree.
"What people get up to in their bedrooms is their business, makes no difference to me, I don't think it changes the kind of person they are." she said. I guess that was a good answer, maybe she wouldn't flip out on me after all.
"Is it okay if Scott comes over after school, we still have some more work to do on our assignment. I've been to his place, it only seems fair for him to come here for a change." I asked. Well it wasn't a total lie, I was hoping to continue on with what we were doing yesterday, sitting there in his arms, or him in mine, kissing and just enjoying being together. Of course mum wasn't going to know that.
"Fine, just make sure you do your work and don't watch tv all afternoon." she said. Oh don't worry, we won't be watching tv I thought to myself.
"Thanks mum." I said. I looked at my watch and discovered it was nearly time to head off for the bus.
"Oh fuck, I'll miss the bus if I don't hurry." I exclaimed.
"Jason, enough of that language thankyou." she said, giving me that "don't let me hear you say that again" look. Oops.
"Sorry mum, see ya tonight." I said with a grin as I grabbed my things and went out the door.
I charged off to the bus stop, and made it just in time. A couple of stops later, Scott got on, and I really had to stop myself from kissing him right there. I think it was lust at first sight when we met (Scott is so damn cute!!), but the more time I've spent with him over the last couple of weeks, the more I've fallen in love with him. He was wearing the chain I'd given him, I couldn't help but grin when I saw that.
"Hey gorgeous, how's my favourite guy in the world this morning?" Scott asked as he sat down.
"Even better now you're here Scott. After I left last night, I couldn't wait to see you again." I replied.
"Me too Jason, I wish I could kiss you right now." he said with a devilish gleam in his eye.
"I know what you mean. Do you wanna come back to my place after school, my mum will be at work, so we can be alone for a while. I told her we needed to do more work on the assignment." I asked with a grin.
"Sounds good to me." he said grinning.
"Hey did you hear about the gay guy that was bashed last night? It frightens the hell out of me that it could easily happen to us if people knew." I said.
"We'll be careful Jason, I won't let anything happen to either of us." he said. He smiled at me, and gently squeezed my hand, our bags placed so that no one would see. It's moments like these that make me love him even more. I couldn't help but smile back, and I gently squeezed his hand in return.
All too soon the bus arrived at school, and we both got off and went to our homerooms. Fortunately we had the class before lunch together, but the rest of the morning dragged on and on. Finally I was able to see Scott again, it had only been a couple of hours since we'd seen each other, but it felt longer than that. I've often wondered if we'd get sick of each other if we were together all the time, but right now I wouldn't say no to testing that little theory out. We were able to sit next to each other, but the teacher droned on and on and on, so there wasn't much opportunity to talk, but we did sneak an occasional look at each other and smile a lot. Even though Scott was right beside me, the lesson seemed to take forever, but as soon as the bell rang, we were out of there as quick as we could. We went off to the mall as always, it was our daily ritual.
"Scott, I've been thinking it might be okay to tell my mum about us after all." I said as we sat down to eat.
"Wow! If you're sure you want to, that's great." he said.
"Remember me telling you this morning about the guy that got bashed? Well I was talking to mum about it, trying to find out what she thought about gays, and she said what people get up to in the bedroom makes no difference to the sort of person they are. It got me thinking, maybe she would be okay about it after all, and I don't want to keep lying to her." I said.
"Cool. So when are you thinking of telling her?" he asked.
"Erm....how would you feel about me doing it this afternoon? I really want you there with me Scott, please say yes." I pleaded to him.
"Of course I will babe. You were there for me, so I'll be there for you. As you said, we're in this together." he said with a smile.
"Thanks Scott, I love you so much." I said softly, tears forming in my eyes. I wiped them away before they ran down my cheeks, and tried to compose myself before I turned into a blubbering mess.
We pretty much ate our lunch in silence after that, save for the occasional comment about school or whatever. We left a little earlier than usual, so we could take our time going back to school, stopping for an occasional kiss. It felt so fantastic every time our lips touched, I couldn't get enough of it. Hopefully it would work out alright telling mum about us, but I only had to look into his amazing blue eyes to see the love he had for me, and I knew I'd be okay no matter what.
We got back to school in plenty of time to get to our classes without rushing. The rest of the afternoon dragged on, until we had our last lesson of the day together. It was a study lesson, so we decided to do what homework we had, so we had more time to spend together when we got home. We must have got right into it, because before we knew it, the bell rang. We collected our things, and headed off for the bus. Fortunately we weren't kept waiting long, and then we were on our way. We made small talk and smiled at each other a lot on the journey home, and before we knew it, we'd arrived at my stop. We got off and walked the short distance to my house.
I unlocked the front door and showed him to my room. We dumped our things on the floor, and went to the kitchen to see what there was to drink. I got us something to drink, and we went back to my room. I put our glasses down on a table, and I picked out a CD for some background music, stuck it in the CD player and pressed play.
"So this is where the great Jason Carter lives." Scott said smiling.
"Geez, you'll make my ego swell with talk like that." I said with a chuckle.
"It's not the only thing I want to swell up." he said with a devilish grin.
We both cracked up over that comment, and we fell back on the bed laughing. After a few minutes, we'd managed to calm down, and we looked into each others eyes. We both leaned in for a kiss, and when our lips touched it was like electricity passed between us. No matter how many times we kissed, it was always special. We put our arms around each other, and pulled each other close. Scott turned us so he was on top of me, and his lips started to attack mine furiously. He made his way down my neck, and I could feel myself getting hard. Scott was getting hard too, and we started grinding against each other. The outside world faded away and it was just the two of us, nothing else mattered. Probably why I never heard my mum come through the front door.
"Jason, what the hell is going on here?" she exclaimed. I think we both muttered "Shit" at the same time. Scott leapt up off me like I was on fire or something, and I got up and we both stood there like we'd been caught with our hands in the cookie jar.
"Mum...um....there's something I have to tell you....about me...erm....um....I'm gay mum...and Scott is my boyfriend." I said, the tears welling up in my eyes. There I'd done it, I told my mum I was gay.
"How long's this been going on for?" she asked.
"We both liked each other the day we met Mrs Carter, but we've only known how the other felt for a couple of weeks. I've told my mum, she's fine about the two of us. I want you to know I love Jason very much, I would never do anything to hurt him, and he feels the same way about me." Scott said, fighting to keep his emotions in control. I grabbed hold of his hand, and kissed him lightly on the cheek.
"It's true mum, I love Scott more than anyone on this earth. I hope you can be happy for the both of us, but I want you to know that nothing you do or say will change the way I feel about him. If you can't accept us, well that's your decision, but you will not keep us apart." I said defiantly. I looked at Scott and saw him smiling.
There was silence for what seemed like an eternity, mum just looking at the two of us. I wondered if maybe I'd gone too far.
"Jason, Scott, I can't say I'm happy about seeing what you were up to, but I can see how much you love each other, so I won't try to keep you apart." she said, her eyes filling with tears. Scott and I looked at each other and grinned.
"Thanks mum, I love you heaps." I said, running over to hug her. Even Scott came over and hugged her.
"Just one thing though, I don't want to see any more of what I saw earlier. What you do in private is your business, but keep it private please. I doubt I'll be able to stop you from doing things, so I won't even try. I would rather you do them at home where I know you'll be safe, but please try and be discrete when I'm around, okay?" she said.
"I got it mum, we'll be careful I promise." I said. Wow, I couldn't believe how well she was taking this, it obviously wasn't easy for her to find out this way. She really was the best.
"Right, I only came home to pick up a few things, I'll be off again now. Will you be staying for dinner Scott?" she asked.
"Yeah thanks, if it's no trouble." he said.
"No, it isn't any trouble, we were going to have pizza or something anyway, I'll leave some money on the kitchen table. I might be a little late tonight Jason, so just order when you're ready, and don't forget to leave me some. I trust you two will behave yourselves while I'm gone." she said, with a slight smile on her face.
"Yes mum, we will. Thanks, you're the best." I said while giving her another hug. Once she'd gone, we both hugged each other tightly and quietly sobbed. We'd both gone through a rollercoaster of emotions in a matter of minutes, but we'd managed to come out of it at the other end intact. I guess this day was turning out to be even better than I thought it would.
