Previously:

Ronnie and Austin couldn't help but pick up on the strong Irish accent. "That's a really strong accent you have," Ronnie said, "Are you Irish?"

The man laughed again. "Oh yes, indeed. I still live in Ireland. I am here visiting with my daughter and her family for the week. I don't get to see them often, so I try to visit when I can. They are the only family I have left. And the grandkid's love to hear about my Irish tales."

"Cool," Austin said. "Would you care to have a seat and join us?" He was interested in the old man's story.

"Well, thank you lad. It would be a pleasure."

This chapter is dedicated to Brendan.

Love is Real chapter 16

"My name is Austin, and this is my boyfreind Ronnie".

"My name is Brandon. Nice to meet you both". They shook hands.

"Actually, he is more than just my boyfriend . He is my best friend and lover".

"I was pretty sure that you two were gay when I noticed the matching rings".

Austin laughed. "Sorry, I'm not laughing at you, it's just that we have had to explain this a few times before. Sweetie, would you like to explain?"

"Sure, babe. We don't have anything at all against the word 'gay'. We fully understand what it means to most people, and we are fine with that. But, we simply will not allow ourselves to be defined by one word. Yes, we love each other and have sex. And we know that is gay, but there is so much more to us, and our relationship than that. The word 'gay' just doesn't tell our story, or completely describe who we are."

"Wow, that makes perfect sense. I have never thought of it like that before. But, you are absolutely right. Thank you for that explanation", Brandon sincerely said. "And just so you know, lad, I completely agree. You see, laddies. I consider myself gay, even though I have never been in love or had sex with another man."

"And that is why a one word description doesn't work," Austin interjected. "Your situation is very different from ours, so how can the that one word define us as the same. It can't. As Ronnie likes to say, 'we just are who we are'."

Brandon went on to tell the boys how his life had changed over the years. His experiences, or lack thereof, with coming to terms with his sexuality. Ultimately, he confided in them that he was sexually attracted to the young, tight and muscular male form. But not the body builder type, the more naturally muscular type. And that he, in no way, was attracted to guys his age, or even close to his age.

"You're basically referring to the sexual aspect," Ronnie said. "But there is so much more to a relationship when you're in love. You may not find an older person sexually attractive, but can certainly love that person for who they are, even someone you're age, which is much more rewarding than just sex."

"How did you get to be so wise, laddy?"

"I'm not so wise. I just know how I feel about things."

It was getting late, and the boys had finished their meal a long while ago.

"Well, it's been real nice meeting you and talking with you Brandon," Austin said, "but we still have some driving to do before we get home, so I guess we better hit the road. Oh, and by they way, let me give you my phone number. You and your grandson have an open invitation to visit the bayou and do some fishing with us any time."

They exchanged numbers.

"Ok, we will have to take you up on that offer someday, thank you very much, indeed. And thank you for enlightening me. It was defintely my pleasure meeting and speaking with you two laddies."

After the boys shook his hand again and left, Brandon continued to sit there smiling. Indeed, he had been enlightened. He was now determined to stop thinking in terms of the sex, and he made up his mind to find his soulmate. And he knew exactly where to look...his oldest and dearest friend Brian, who had 'come out' to him years ago. He pulled out his phone, and called Brian.

Ronnie and Austin made it home safely, avoiding hitting one of the many deer they saw that night on the roadside. They dropped their suitcases on the floor of their bedroom, then dropped themselves on the bed. They were tired from the long drive and the events from the night before. They turned their heads towards each other and smiled.

"How 'bout a beer at the lower deck, then we crash," Ronnie suggested.

"Sounds good."

They got out of their clothes and put on sweats and tees, grabbed a beer and headed out to the porch, barefooted and hand in hand. They sat on the lower deck, with their legs dangling over the edge, wiggling their toes and enjoying the serenity of the bayou.

They sat there in silence a few moments, enjoying each others presence.

"You know," Ronnie started, "it was nice meeting Brandon today. It kinda gives you a different perspective on things. Like, what if we hadn't met until we were his age."

"Well, we certainly would have missed out on alot of hot sex, but in the end, all that matters is that you find someone you truly love. And I know that I would have still fallen in love with you...whenever we met, at whatever age. We were meant to be together."

"You're right. I love you."

Austin smiled, "And I love YOU."

Ronnie put his hand on Austin's thigh and smiled. "Whose ride are we taking to work tomorrow," he asked.

"Doesn't matter to me. But, we need to stop by the grocery before heading home. We're out of everything except beer. And we should probably get some more of that also. Let's take my car, it's better on gas."

"True, but it's alot easier loading and unloading groceries in my truck."

"You're right. Let's take your truck. But, I wanna drive it. You know, I have never driven your truck."

"Hmmm, I guess right. Fine by me. I'll get to sleep on the way," Ronnie grinned.

"Oh, no you won't. If I'm awake, then you're awake. That's the law."

"That's not a law, you just made that up."

"It's MY law," Austin sneered.

Ronnie laughed, You're so cute when you're being silly."

"I know," Austin said proudly. "Does that mean I get a kiss?"

"You bet."

They leaned on each other and kissed, pulled slightly apart and kissed again.

They pulled away, smiling at each other like school kids. Yes, they are definitey in love.

They each took another big gulp from their beer, finishing them off.

"I'm ready to crash," Ronnie yawned.

Austin yawned back. "Me too." Then he leaned in for a another kiss.

They got up and walked up to the house, hand in hand.

After brushing their teeth and undressing, they crawled into bed as two very tired young men.

Austin snuggled up against Ronnie's side. Ronnie turned his head for a kiss.

"Goodnight, sweetheart."

"Goodnight, sweetheart."
