Eric sat with the other sorcerers in the stadium watching the warrior mages essentially battle themselves to establish a ranking. The battles had been going on for the past three weeks and would continue for three more. For second year warrior mages it was the first time they would compete. Third year warrior mages that had not been selected the year before were also welcome to compete. Throughout the six weeks anyone could come and watch the battles in their free time. Eric liked to watch Sean's battles not that he was letting the warrior know he was there to watch him though.
Eric hated to admit to himself that he had developed a crush on the warrior. He also wanted to wipe the smug look off of Brent's face every time he saw the healer. The healer in question was also in the stadium. He was up front watching every move that Sean made. Eric got a malicious gleam in his eyes. Beth nudged him in the ribs with her elbow. "He's not worth whatever juvenile nonsense you are thinking of doing". Eric had the decency to blush and looked embarrassed. Still he thought it would have been fun to torment the healer just a little. Beth watched Eric's evil grin spread. He was about to explain when she held her hand up to indicate for him to stop. "I don't want to know, and am frankly thinking you spend too much time with Paul".
Paul looked over at the pair. He had been watching the warrior mages intently. Do doubt he was trying to see how he could improve himself. "Don't bring me into this. You both know I'm a great influence on the pair of you. Keeping you grounded and the like". Eric was impressed that Paul had managed to keep a straight face. Beth stood up to leave the now grinning pair. Paul seeing that she was leaving stood up as well. "Um could you wait Beth I was going to ask if you could help me with something". Beth waited as Paul gathered his things. Eric just shook his head, he doubt that Paul had anything he wanted Beth's help with. He was however sure his friend would think of something.
As the pair left Eric turned his attention back to the battle. The winner had been announced, unsurprisingly it was Sean. Eric frowned at the way Brent was all over the warrior. However he knew there was very little he could do about it. That and he had other things to attend to.
Sean hugged the little healer that was all over him. It didn't seem to bother the healer if the whole college knew they were seeing each other. Sean looked up and saw the long red black tail swaying as Eric walked away. He felt sad for giving up on Eric and then like crap for thinking of Eric when he had Brent in his arms. "So how many more fights do you have to do", Brent asked eagerly. Sean smiled down and pulled Brent closer to him. "I'm not sure there are a lot of rounds, I have however progressed to the next rank". Brent smiled up at the warrior happily.
Andy waited for his friend in their dorm. In the six weeks that Sean had been seeing Brent Andy had seen less and less of his friend. As Sean entered Andy heard him say good bye to healer. "What no post battle sex to celebrate your progression to the next rank". Sean rolled his eyes at h friends humour. "Nope he has exams and I want to soak in the hot pools under the gym". Andy nodded and reached for towels. "Care for some company, I mean I won't suck your dick for you but still I'm told I'm pretty good to look at", Andy said with a grin. Sean thumped his friend in the arm as he took his own towel. "You are an idiot but I recon I can put up with you for a little while".
As the pair entered the gym they saw a small group of sorcerers at the open area at the far end. As they approached out curiosity they were impressed with what they saw. As warriors they often thought of the sorcerers as being weaker physically then themselves. The sorcerers were playing some kind of sport. The part of the gym they were using was set up for training with the four basic elements.
The sorcerers had broken into two teams. The teams were made up of nine male sorcerers, with one acting as ref. Sean got the feeling that the number of people on each team was more due to the number of males in the first year. Sean's eyes automatically sort out Eric. He was stunning in his black gym shorts and singlet. His team wore black the other white. The objective appeared to be to obtain your teams flags. The challenge was that each sorcerer was given a flag for each team. The result was that they appeared to be having some kind of organised brawl.
Sean and Andy stood and watched the game. It was brutal. The ground opened up to the floors below and pushed up to the ceiling. They were all throwing fire balls like tennis balls. Along with gusts of wind and electric strikes. Combine these sorts of attacks with their speed and their ability to flip and jump. The resulting display was impressive. "Remind me never to piss one of them off", Andy whispered not wanting to draw attention to himself and Sean. Sean just nodded his agreement watching as Eric executed a perfect back flip to avoid multiple attacks. "Come on a doubt they really want an audience", Andy said. He and Sean both knew how secretive sorcerers could be about their abilities.
Pushing his sweaty hair away from his face Eric grinned with his team mates. The game had been a good one. They had won in the end. However it had not been an easy win with only the three of them left. The game had served to purposes. One the exercise and training was good. And two it released tension. Eric stretched his arms and looked around at the others. As a whole they weren't a bad group. Still the normal rivalries cropped up amongst them. Eric removed his singlet and wiped his near hairless body with it removing excess sweat. There were more than a few admiring glance and one or two wolf whistles. Not surprised Eric just shook his head. He knew that half the guys there were gay as was relatively normal in the male sorcerer population.
"So Eric it appears your admirer has found easier game", Tim a tall guy called out to him as the group started to move off. "I doubt he would notice what with all the others that gaze at pretty boy so lovingly", Luke jeered back. It was clear the pair were good friends. Eric ducked his head hoping the others wouldn't see him blush. He was aware of all the attention he got. Paul had often said how thankful he was that Eric was gay. If he were looking for a women Paul felt he wouldn't get a look in. "He would have to be blind not to have seen this one. A second year always mooning over him. Well that is until a certain healer showed up, or should I say rubbed up". Eric couldn't help it he laughed at the way Luke imitated Brent using Tim as his Sean.
"Sean was never mine. And if the little flirt wants to rub up against the big fellas he's welcome to. Personally I like to be a little more shell we say discrete". Luke and Tim laughed as they came over to Eric. "You are so discrete the little flirt didn't bother to try and rub up against you", Tim said with a devilish grin. "Let's just say that boy has skill", Luke added with his own grin. Eric was beginning to wonder who Brent hadn't tried to or succeed in sleeping with. "Well lets all be thankful we don't get STI's. Although I feel he would be happy to play nurse". The three laughed at Eric's comment.
It was as the three were about to leave the gym that they bumped into Sean and Andy. The three looked the large warriors over. None were subtle about what they were doing. They were rewarded with blushing from both warriors. That and an annoyed expression from Sean. Sean and Andy moved away quickly. Clearly uncomfortable with the attention from the three sorcerers. This caused the three to laugh at the retreating backs amused by their own antics.
Eric sat in his room looking at the photo of his parents. When he had first seen it he had hoped it was real. However having looked at it for some time he had drawn a few conclusions. Firstly he was all most positive that the photo was fake with some very good Photoshop work. Despite his child like hope that his parents were alive he was sure they were dead and had never been possessed. Grandfather would have said if it had been different. If for no other reason to warn him of possible seeing his parents again as Demonic lords.
No what he really wanted to know was what had the original photo looked like. He knew it was unlikely that he would ever find out as he didn't have the original. Still he wanted the photo looked at. To do that he needed to talk to Ben. He also wanted to check in with Ben as he was his only other normal friend with Dan gone. Eric didn't think it was him personally that the Demonic were targeting more they were targeting Grandfather by going after him. It was clear that someone had worked out who he was. The one positive was that no one knew about his friendship with Ben. At the boarding school they had attended they had pretended to not really know each other. This had been done at Eric's insistence as he didn't want Ben to be bullied as he was.
Eric didn't bother to call. In fact he left all electronic devises in his room. He may have been paranoid in his thinking. However until he could look through his mobile devices he wouldn't risk taking them somewhere and being tracked by them. He was only thankful he had left his phone at Grandfathers the last time he had seen Ben.
Eric appeared outside Ben's inner city apartment door, much as he had last time. The only difference was that this time he knocked on the door rather than just entering. He could hear the sounds of clothing being hastily pulled back on and a hushed conversation. He heard one voice say in an accusing tone. "I thought you said your friends weren't coming until eight its only six". Eric managed to contain a laugh as he knocked again. It was clear to him that Ben had been entertaining his new boyfriend before other friends turned up. "This is not the others. The others would have had to call up". Eric waited for his friend to announce it was him. "This is a sneak that can somehow get up here without getting a pass for the elevator. Eric just come in I know the lock means nothing to you". The last was said in a raised and somewhat annoyed voice.
Eric let himself in. He simple teleported himself from one side of the door to the other. "Nice trick", Eric was a little startled and worried at being found out. What surprised him most was the lack of surprise in Ben's voice. Eric frowned at his friend. "I perform feats of complicated magic and you say nice trick. I think I should leave and wait until you show a little more appreciation for my skill." Eric said in mock snobby voice. Eric dropped the act and looked at his friend seriously. "How long"? Was all he asked. Ben shrugged he had suspected for some time but never had any conformation. "You confirmed it now, but I've suspected you were a freak for years. Do you even realise how many odd things you do and happen around you on a daily bases." Eric shrugged and shook his head not really understanding.
"I will give you an obvious example. Tell me do you even know what it's like to feel temperature like a normal person. I mean when was the last time you were soaked in sweat due to the heat. Or needed that annoying jumper because it was cold". Ben stared at Eric accusingly. Eric shifted uncomfortably on the spot feeling warm despite what Ben had said. "I'm sorry Ben it's not something I'm supposed to talk about". Ben looked at the sad expression on his friends face, he frowned. "What aren't you telling me?" Eric hesitated, before he pulled his friend into a tight hug. "I need you to promise to keep this even more of a secret then our friendship". Ben pulled away confused by what Eric was trying to say. "If it were ever found out that you knew what I was or could do. They would wipe your memory. You would never have known me".
Ben looked at the sad distressed look in his oldest friends eyes. "What about Aiden he knows you are here". Eric frowned and Ben waited for his response. Focusing on his spirit magic Eric sort out Ben's friends mind. As gently as he could he put the man to sleep and removed the late ten minutes of memory. As he withdrew him mind Eric felt weak. His spiritual magic wasn't as strong as it could be. The reason being he wasn't really all the comfortable messing with people thoughts and feelings. The other aspect of spiritual magic, moving things around, he was good at. "Its fine I don't have the strength to mess with years of memories. I did however make your friend go to sleep and forget I was here". Ben turned around and hurried into the other room to find Aiden his boyfriend asleep on the couch.
"Sorry Ben I just can't afford to have more than one normal know", Ben raised an eyebrow at the term normal. "What makes you think I'm normal"? Eric laughed and relaxed for the first time since he realised that Ben had caught him. His real issue was how stupid he had been. It was of very little surprised that Ben had found him out. "I know you are less than normal. However it is the term we use for the none magical people". Eric explained. Ben nodded excepting Eric's reasoning. Eric and Ben took seats in the living room ignoring the softly snoring Aiden. "So what brings you here unannounced as always"? Eric looked a little guilty he never visited Ben for a social call.
Eric took the photo out and handed it to Ben without explaining anything. Ben looked at the photo for a few minutes and then grinned. "It's a good effort I will give them that". Eric waited for him to go on. "I'm assuming you know it's a fake the couple have been put in well after the time the photo was originally taken". Ben indicated for Eric to follow him to his office. Ben booted up his computer and searched for the photo. "As you can see the photo it's self is reasonable well known. Which makes me think the person who used it was rather new to the task". Eric nodded his agreement. Ben took one more look at the photo. "So who are the couple"? Eric took the photo back and looked at it with a distant expression. "My parents". Ben could hear the pain in his friend's voice. He was also confused as to why anyone would do that to his friend.
"It's a family thing and the less you know the better. I'm sorry to say that I have to go before your other friends show. It was hard enough to clear Aiden's mind of me". Ben looked over at his sleeping boyfriend. "The others don't know yet that we are a couple, what do you think of him". Eric ran his eyes over the sleeping Aiden and probed the man's mind with his own. He smiled to himself sensing the affection Aiden had for his friend. "He's very fond of you, if you like I can give him memories of the best orgasm he has every had with you". Ben thought for a moment and then shook his head. "I don't think so. I could never live up to a fake memory of what I was to supposed to have once done. Just make it a normal encounter with him falling asleep afterward not an uncommon thing."
Eric nodded once and adjusted Aiden's mind once more. He felt a little sick and dizzy afterward. "Who would have thought that removing and giving memories was so draining". Eric complained to his unsympathetic friend. "I don't know what you are talking about. I mean how hard could it have been for you to make a memory of me being a sex god. Let's face it you have enough memories of it yourself". Eric threw a cushion from the lounge at his friend. Ben grinned and Eric rolled his eyes at his friend. "True enough I've had that little dick up my ass often enough to know what it does". Ben threw the cushion back. "Little my ass". Eric frowned and pretended to study his friend's ass before responding. "So true your ass is far from little. What have you done since we left school put on ten kilos".
Ben pretended to be insulted. The pair collapsed into laughter having missed each other. "I'm sorry I don't visit that often, it's just not easy with things". Ben nodded his understanding. He had never expected Eric to maintain their friendship after school. "We will always be friends Ben just don't expect weekly updates. I feel at some points it may be years between visits". Ben nodded his understanding. Even though he was completely sure why Eric kept his friendship such a secret. Eric saw the question on his friends face. "The last open friendship I had with a normal resulted in his death. His death gave me that photo. I think it was a warning to me to say that they had been watching me". Ben's eyes grew wide with disbelief. Of all the reasons he had thought Eric would give he had never thought it would be to protect him.
Ben got up and pulled his friend into a tight hug. "I'm sorry I ever doubted you or our friendship. It's clear that you were only trying to keep me safe". Eric nodded and pulled away. He brushed a tear off of Ben's face and smiled sadly. "Just remember no matter what I am always your friend. If ever I act as if I'm not it is to protect you". Ben nodded his understanding. Eric smiled sadly he heard the phone and knew it was time. "Until next time friend", with that he vanished leaving a small grin on Ben's face.
Sean paced around the arena or stadium. It was the final day of battles. In fact it was the final day and the final battle. Sean knew he was to face a third year that had not been chosen the year before for some reason. It was however clear to Sean that the women was strong. A loud bell announced that the final fight was to begin. The first year sorcerers had been given the afternoon off. It was to officially let them evaluate all of the possible candidates for a warrior.
Eric sat in the stands with Beth and Paul. Tim and Luke had winked at him when they had taken their seats. Eric wasn't surprised to see the pair together it was rare to see them apart. A Slender sorcerer with long blond hair and a petite body nodded once at him. No one else noticed or knew of Eric's close friendship with Daphne. Eric had met Daphne before college started. She had struck Eric as someone he could trust. She was from a small group of sorcerers who had no place on the council. That alone made Eric feel he could trust her. As a result he had used her seeming invisibility to gather information regarding other students.
The information had proved useful in a number of ways. Not all of which had been used to their fullest yet. Eric was a little disturbed at how easily he saw the information as a means to use the other students. He had first used it just to ensure he was left alone to study. He had thought of using his influence to effect people in not choosing Sean as their warrior. However he had changed his mind and decided to let them make the choice without him tampering. He doubted any would take Sean as they all knew he was stronger. As a result he had spoken to Daphne who was very strong in her own way. However she lacked the backing of a big family. Thus she was overlooked a lot by the others.
Eric's objective wasn't the battle he knew that Sean would win. His objective was to confront Brent. He needed to know if the little healer was a knowing participant or an unwitting pawn. Eric had come to the conclusion that someone was after him to get at Grandfather. Anyone who had watched the family would have known that Grandfather had been grooming him to take over. And what better way to disrupt the family then get at the current heads intended successor. The only real question that Eric could see was, were they part of the family or an external threat.
He sighed and lent back in his seat appearing to relax. When in fact he was searching for the little healer. He wasn't surprised when the little guy turned up with a group of other supporters all joking with him about his boyfriend. Eric closed his eyes and focused on the mental signature of the healer. He had never teleported anyone but himself but knew he could. Letting out a slow breath he performed the magic required to transport himself and Brent.
Brent had just sat down when he felt a kind of pull cantered around his belly button. The sensation had been described to hi once before by a warrior. He knew that a sorcerer was about to teleport him. What surprised him was that he was sat in a spacious room with his main rival. Brent stared at the back of Eric's head. "We haven meat but I feel you know me". Eric said softly as he turned around letting power flow into his voice and eyes. The power caused his eyes to glow like a fog with a bright light in its centre.
"I have two questions for you and a proposition". Brent stared at Eric not sure what to say he had never seen someone so effortlessly powerful before. "I will answer if I can, and will listen". Eric could hear the fear in Brent's voice. "Who put you up to being with Sean"? Brent was surprised at the question. It was true someone had asked him to try and get with Sean. However the task was an easy one as he liked what he saw and intended to enjoy it for as long as it lasted.
"I'm not sure who they were, shadows and hoods kind of thing". Eric nodded he had expected as much. "What are you to do once you bond with him"? This time Brent was shocked he had not thought anyone would ask him if he had been instructed to bond with the warrior. Seeing no way around it he responded truthfully. "I wasn't to bond with him until after I took him to a remote place and to wait to be contacted". Eric knew Brent was telling the truth. What concerned him was the remote location. "Continued as planned, don't make it obvious that you have been made". Brent bowed his head to the sorcerer. "I'm sorry lord I was unaware as to what I was getting into". Eric grimaced at the title, it was accurate but still he didn't like it. "Healer do me a solid and not mention my true level of power. I still have a few years here without the need for people addressing me as Lord all the time".
Brent looked up at the sorcerer and smiled softly. "As my lord asks". Brent paused before he knelt. "I know it's not really my place. But lord I would ask you to consider my pledge of loyalty to you". Eric put his hand on the small healers head. "I will not take the pledge now however if you prove yourself I will". Brent bowed his head further understanding what Eric asked of him. "Follow through with the plans you have been given. Let us see how it all plays out". Brent looked up at the sorcerer and knew that things were going to get shaken up in the near future.
The battle was in progress when Eric returned himself and Brent. Brent was surprised that no one had noticed his absence. Eric knew why no one had noticed and gave a nod to his friend indicated he appreciated the effort that it required to create the illusions. As expected Sean was winning. It didn't take a lot to see that Sean was the stronger and more powerful warrior mage.
Paul took a seat next to Eric after the battle had been won by Sean. "You missed almost all of it". There was no accusation there just a small amount of confusion. "You don't miss much do you"? Paul grinned appreciating the complement for what it was. "In answer to your question, I had things to deal with". Paul looked a little hurt he had thought he and Eric were close after their rocky start. "It's alright I will explain latter".
With that the pair turned back to the central part of the stadium. Just in time to see the head of the college announce Sean's victory. Eric and Paul clapped with the others happy to the man that deserved to win had won. All Eric could think was that he hoped the winner would live to appreciate the effort he had put in.
