Chapter 11
We all woke up when Chris screamed. I looked around to see what was going on.
"I am so sorry," my mother started. "You just looked so cute all sleeping together, I had to get a picture."
Chris' breathing slowed down. "It's ok. I was just scared when I saw the flashes. If you got a good shot, can I have a copy?"
"Me too," said everyone else.
"Well now that I've given you all heart attacks this morning, breakfast is ready. You can come out like that, everyone else is also still in their pajamas."
"Ok mom. We'll be out in a few." I said. She left the room and closed the door behind her. "Guys, I'm sorry about that. She shouldn't be taking pictures without asking first."
"Ry, one she's family, it's their responsibility to take crazy pictures us, and two it's a digital camera, we could always delete them." Lance said smiling.
We all got out of bed, washed up and made our way into the kitchen. My mother had set up a huge buffet on the island, and most everyone had already gotten food and was eating at the table. I noticed that another leaf had been put in, and that extra chairs were brought up from storage, so that there was plenty of space for everyone. The guys and I filled some plates and went to sit down. The kids were all talking animatedly about the previous night, when Jessica excused herself and came down to my side.
"Hey Jessie, what's up?" I asked.
"Is everything ok? We heard Chris screaming last night about 'NSYNC. Is something wrong with the group? Are they ok with you and Lance?" She started to cry.
"Oh baby, come here," I brought her into my arms and hugged her tight. "Not everything is ok, but the guys are totally cool with me and Lance being together. It's just hard when you have the outside world watching your every move."
"Is that why Chris screamed again this morning?"
"Yes, he was startled when Grammy took some pictures. But stop worrying, everything will be fine eventually."
"Ok, Uncle Heath."
"Now go back and join your friends and siblings. And if you could let everyone else know, I'd appreciate it."
"No problem." She said and ran back to the other side of the table.
Lance leaned over to me and said, "That seemed to be a pretty intense conversation. Is she ok?"
"Yup, just worried about you and me and the guys reaction."
"But they are totally cool with it."
"I know, but they heard Chris screaming."
"Oh."
I kissed him, and got up. I took his hand and pulled him into the den with me.
"Sweetie it's ok. I explained to her that Chris was a little worried about you coming out, but not about us being together."
"I'm sorry."
"Jamie, there is nothing to be sorry for."
"It's just that there is so much that you are giving up for me until I come out."
"I'm not giving up anything. The people who love me all know already. And yes, it's going to be rough figuring out how this is going to happen with us living in two different states and all, but we'll work through it. Jamie, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want a family with you."
"Oh, Ry. You make things seem so simple. But not all the people who love me know, and until I know how they react . . . I don't know. I know that I want to be with you forever and always, but I'm so afraid of what my parents are going to say."
"James. They love you. They will continue to love you, even if they don't understand. If you want I'll talk to them with you when they get here."
"No, Ry, this is something that I'm going to have to do on my own at first. They're coming up Tuesday, I'll talk to them then."
"Sweetie, don't force it. You have to let them know when you are ready."
"I'll be ready, I want them to meet you as my boyfriend, not just my friend."
"Ok, now are you ready to join the others?" "Do we have to? Can't we just stay here and make out?" he asked sliding up to me and tugging my nipple ring through my wifebeater.
"Jamie," I drew out his name, and pulled away from him. "Stop it. We have too much to do today, and you have another concert tonight."
"What do we have to do?"
"We have to clear out this house, so that I can spend some quality time with you in bed. I'm still tired, and you don't have to be at the venue till much later."
"Ooh, sweet stuff, the possibilities." He said running his hands along my chest.
"There will be no time for possibilities if you don't haul ass back into the kitchen and eat breakfast."
We walked back into the other room; I noticed that most of the people were gone, and that the buffet had been cleaned up. Lance and I sat back down at the table and started to eat. My mother came over to me.
"Baby, we'll be out of your hair in a minute. The dishwasher needs to be turned on once you finish filling it, and the kids are almost done cleaning up the family room." My mother said.
"Thanks Mom. I really appreciate you doing all this, this morning."
"No problem baby, you needed to rest up after last night. You didn't need to take care of this bunch."
I turned bright red. "Ah, yeah, about that. I'm sorry about last night."
"It's fine baby, it was entertaining."
"Wonderful," I muttered.
"HeathRiley," she said sternly. "You were enjoying your boyfriend, there is nothing wrong with that. I don't pretend that you are a naïve, young virgin, and there is no need for you to think that I do." She wanted to continue, but I stopped her.
"Ma, ok already. I get it. Can we just drop it?" I yelled exasperated.
"Ry, calm down. It's embarrassing, but it's ok. There is no need to yell at your mother." James said stroking my back.
"You're right. Mom I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled. I'm just a little weirded out by everything."
"Oh, Heath, don't worry about it. Your father and I are going to head up in a second. Craig and Aimee are already upstairs and I'll check on the kids."
"It's ok if they want to hang out down here. They don't bother me."
"No, most of the parents will be here shortly to do pick-up and I have plans with my grandbabies. We're going ice skating."
"You're going to ice skate?" I was shocked.
"No, I'm going to watch, and take some video. I am making a dvd for your aunts and uncles for Christmas."
"That's cool."
"See you later baby." She said as she walked into the family to round up the kids and herd them to the upstairs apartment.
"Jamie where are the guys?"
"They snuck out of here when you were talking to your mom," he answered.
"I think they were going to the basement to check out your equipment."
"I could make a really dirty comment, but I'll refrain."
"Ry, get your mind out of the gutter! Let's finish breakfast so that we can clean up and send the guys back to the hotel."
"You don't want to spend a little time with them before sending them back?"
"Nope, I've probably spent a quarter of my life with them in the same space. I want to spend time with you alone."
"Oh Jamie, that's kinda disturbing, but so sweet."
We finished our breakfast and cleaned the rest of the stuff up. Lance went to call for transportation for his friends and went downstairs to break the news to them that they were not welcome to hang out this afternoon. The guys understood and left when the van came to pick them up. Lance would be picked up a few hours later so that he could make it to sound check on time.
"What do you want to do?" I asked.
"I'm still kind of tired, would you mind if we just napped?"
"I'm ok with that, I could also use some more sleep."
We walked into my bedroom, I set the alarm and climbed into bed. James had taken off his t-shirt as he was getting into bed, and moved to take mine off too.
"I want to be able to touch you while we are sleeping." He said by way of explanation.
"Aww." I helped him to take it off and we lay down together facing each other. We kissed lightly for a few moments before drifting off to sleep, all curled up in each other.
When the alarm went off, I was spooning Lance. He felt so comfortable in my arms, but I knew that is was very important for him to get up, so I gently shook him awake.
"Jamie," I whispered. "You need to get up and shower. Your ride will be here soon."
He turned in my arms. "I don't wanna go. I like it right here," he protested.
"Jamie, thousands of people are waiting for you. You have to go."
"I know." He pouted. "I just don't wanna." He kissed my forehead, and started to get out of bed. "Are you coming with?"
"Jamie, you'll be late if I join you."
"But. . ."
"No buts, get in there. I'll shower after you."
"Ok."
After we were ready, Lance was picked up almost immediately. But before he left he asked me "are you coming to the concert tonight?"
"I wasn't planning on it. I have to work tomorrow morning. I figured that I would just stay in tonight."
"Oh, did you want me to stay at the hotel?"
"You don't have too. I'd love for you to come back here tonight."
"You sure?"
"Yes." I went to the key rack next to my front door. "Here's a key, just in case I'm asleep when you get in. And you can keep it."
"You're giving me a key?"
"Jamie we are both in it for the long haul. I want you to know that you are invited to be here whenever you want to be."
A horn sounded outside.
"I gotta go, but all I have to say is thank you." He kissed me hard and ran out the door.
