Previously:
The following evening I called Chance to discuss our date plan. We quickly agreed to catch an early evening show at 6PM and grab a bite to eat afterwards. I also suggested that it would be best that I come and pick him up since the theater is closer to his apartment. And so it was set, my first official date with Chance! I was filled with anticipation and excitement as I hung up the phone and imagined what our first date would be like and how it would turn out!
Chapter 4:
Friday slowly, but surely rolled around. D-Day has arrived. And I was restless all night. I kept tossing and turning, anxiously anticipating my first official date with Chance. My mind raced a zillion miles an hour with different scenarios of what our first date would be like. It was relentless. It just won't stop! Dawn finally arrived, and at that point, I was pissed at myself pissed at my pre-occupation with this first date thing and making it a big deal. I hate it when I'm like this!
As I turned and faced the windows, the warm light of the new day gently filtered through my blinds, inviting me to wake up. It was useless trying to get a few more winks, so I decided to get up. I quickly went to the bathroom and emptied my bladder, brushed my teeth and splashed cold water on my face.
My stomach was growling a little bit as I exited the bathroom. So I went into the kitchen and opened my fridge, grabbed my "Rice Dream" (I'm curious to know how many of you actually know what I'm talking about) and poured myself a glass. I quickly drank it as I ate a banana. And all a while, my mind kept flashing images, forecasting the date. Damn it this is it, I thought to myself. This has gone far enough. I got better things to do with my time and energy than to be pre-occupied with this. So I decided to do some meditating and ground out all these excited and nervous energies. I walked to my balcony, opened the sliding glass door and sat down, assuming a half-lotus sitting position. The warm, soft morning sunlight felt good against my skin as I sat there and emptied my mind. After only just a few minutes, I can feel myself becoming centered and grounded again. I'm finally coming back to myself as I focus my attention on the present. After about half an hour of this mental retreat, I finally got up and went inside. It was still pretty early. So I decided to do some stretching to loosen up my muscles. I spent a good hour tuning into my body, doing stretches, isometric exercises, push-ups and ab crunches.
I love not having classes on Fridays. It is now 15 after nine, and I have much time to kill before my date with Chance. So I decided to go out for a good cardio workout. I quickly changed and threw on a pair of beige-brown Old Navy's All-Terrain shorts and a yellow, Hawaiian shirt. I quickly put on my pair of ultra-blade, in-line skate and strapped my walkman to my shorts, and I was on my way.
I decided to head towards campus for the workout. My campus is enormous with plenty of bike lanes, great for rollerblading. And now is a good time to do it since most students would be in class, and the bike and pedestrian traffic would be lighter. Bike traffic is CRAZY during class dismissal times. Believe me, it can get pretty hairy and tricky, maneuvering around the crazy bike and pedestrian traffic at class changing times. You can get seriously hurt, if you are not careful. It took about 20 minutes to skate to campus. And I was right, hardly any bike traffic at all. After about an hour of blading around campus with Enigma blasting into my ears, my stomach started to growl. It was time for a light brunch. So I headed downtown.
Fifteen minutes later, I arrived at Juice City and bladed up to the ordering counter. Boy, I love college. Only in a college town can you in-skate into a food place without getting dirty looks from management.
"Hey, Michael!" My classmate, John, from my Creative Writing class, greeted me from behind the counter. "You're up early today!"
"Yeah, I guess I am," I said, smiling. "Couldn't really sleep last night. It was crazy!"
"Worrying about the class writing assignment that is due next week?" John asked frowningly.
"Not exactly," I replied with an embarrassed smile.
"Well anyway, what can I get you this morning?"
"Uhm... some french toasts and scramble eggs would be good and a slice of fresh watermelon, please."
"Anything else?" John smiled.
"Yeah, and the Mango Energy Blast drink!" I said as I dig into my wallet for some money.
"No, I got it!" John quickly injected as I handed him the money. "I owe you one. It's my way of saying thanks for helping me revised my story last time."
"Uhm...It was no problem, John. It was my pleasure!" I exclaimed, pleasantly surprise by his generous gesture. "But you don't owe me anything. Please take the money!"
"Michael, please," John insisted. "It's my treat!"
"Ok, thanks!" I finally gave in and accepted his nice offer.
"The toast and eggs should be ready in a few minutes. I'll bring them to you when they're done. In the meantime, have a seat. John smiled and handed me my drink.
I bladed over to a vacant table and plopped myself down. A few minutes later, my food arrived, and I quickly dug into my plate. And I was about to finished when someone from behind tapped me on my right shoulder as I felt a pair of lips on my left cheek.
"Hey, beautiful!"
I immediately turned to see my best friend, Stacy, standing over me with a big smile.
"Hey, gorgeous!" I got up and gave her a kiss.
"You're up early!" Stacy said smiling as she sat down to join me.
"Yeah and you're supposed to be in class!" I replied with a grin, trying to dodge her question.
"I'm playing hooky today, my dear!" Stacy said matter-of-factly and smiled beamingly at me. "And what's your excuse?"
"Can a guy get up early without being grill about it?" I asked playfully.
"Of course, but I think my Michael is up early for a particular reason."
God, does she have to be so damn cocky about it, Miss Know-it-all! Why did she have to bring Chance up again. Now, his beautiful face is flooding back into my consciousness.
"Could it because he is pre-occupied and excited about his big date with Chance tonight!" Stacy continued her playful assault.
I smiled. "You sure know how to ruin a guy's concentration. You're right. I WAS preoccupied with our date this evening, and I actually succeeded in getting it off my mind until Miss Smart- Ass showed up and reminded me of him!" I said playfully with an under tone of irritation.
Stacy simply smiled and leaned over and gave me another kiss. "My apology!" she said with a sincere smile.
I smiled back. How can I be irritated after that.
"We don't have to talk about it if you don't want to," Stacy said nonchalantly with a slight grin.
"Yeah, right!" I quickly retorted. "I can recognized a stinky, reverse Psychology set-up when I smell one!" I playfully smiled and laughed.
"You're adorable," Stacy replied. "and so damn smart!"
I quickly laughed, knowing exactly what she is doing. "And flattery will get you no where either, my dear!"
Stacy laughed as she grabbed a piece of my toast.
"Did you wanted something to eat?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
"Yeah, let me go and order!"
Stacy quickly came back with her food, and we chatted for a bit as I filled her in on my plans for tonight while she ate before I decided to head home and take care of some chores. Stacy finally finished, and we said our goodbyes and departed on our separate ways. By the time I got home, I was a bit exhausted from the workout, but I managed to get some chores done before deciding to take a short nap. I guess the hard workout and the sleep deprivation were finally setting in as I felt my body getting tired and needed sleep. I quickly hopped into bed and immediately dozy off.
Chapter 5:
The last 24 hours have been torture for Chance as he anxiously awaits for Friday to roll around. The wait is almost over. He will soon be on his first official date with Michael. With just 2 hours left, Chance was in his bedroom, frantically trying on different outfits, when Dade walked up and stood at doorway of his bedroom, smiling.
"What?" Chance asked curiously as he saw Dade's reflection in the mirror with a big grin on his face. "What's with the smirk?"
"Nothing," Dade replied casually as he shrugged his shoulders. "Just funny to see my buddy getting so worked up over a date!"
Chance turned away from his full length mirror and faced Dade.
"Yeah, you're right! What am I doing, running around like a chicken with its head cut off," Chance said dispiritedly as he sat down on the edge of his bed, realizing how ridiculous he must have seem.
Fuck, I shouldn't have said that, Dade thought to myself, feeling badly for having said the wrong thing and making his best friend feel foolish. "No," Dade quickly injected, doing his best to mitigate the damage, "what I meant to say is that I think it's great that you are getting worked up over a guy. He must be really special!"
"Yeah, he seems to be, Dade!" Chance smiled as he thought of Michael, but his smile quickly turned into a slight frown as he recalled his past relationships that did not turned out so well. "But I'm a bit apprehensive about this whole dating and relationship thing. You know the shit that I went through in my previous relationships with guys that I thought were great. And they didn't worked out. So I'm a bit hesitant about this one with Michael. Can I trust him? Will it work out? Chance asked dispiritedly while staring reflectively at the floor.
Dade just stood there listening to his buddy's concerns without interrupting. It's something he is very good at. He is a great listener. Dade slowly walked over to Chance and sat down next to him and wrapped his right arm around Chance's shoulders, pulling him close to his body. Chance could feel the warmth of Dade's body as his body relaxes. Dade looked at Chance straight in the eyes and said earnestly, "Listen, Chance, I know that you had some bad relationship experiences in the past, but that does not mean that it will be the same this time around. You can't allow past shit to mar your perception of a potentially great new relationship. And you will never know, unless you try. That's life! And worst case scenario, if it doesn't work out, or if the guy turns out to be an asshole, then I'll go and beat the crap out of him!" Dade smiled.
Dade's playful, last remark quickly brought a smile to Chance's face. "You're absolutely right, Dade!" Chance quickly hugged his buddy in appreciation. "When did you become so wise?"
Dade simply smiled. "Always have been. You just never paid attention!"
"Thanks, Dade. You're the best!" Chance smiled and stood up and resumed grooming himself for the date.
"And don't you forget it!" Dade said playfully as he got up and walked out of the room.
"You got it, pal!" Chance smiled back.
Chapter 6:
I finally woke up from my slumber a few hours later, totally rejuvenated. Boy, I needed that nap. I rolled over and looked at the clock on my nightstand nearby. FUCK! It's almost five, I screamed in my head. SHIT! I jumped out of my bed in a panic. I need to get ready! I need to get to Chance's place soon. I quickly jumped into the shower. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. I quickly dried myself, finger combed my hair with some light hair gel (I guess I'm going with the wet look tonight; no time for anything else), and threw on a pair of black, drawstring, cargo pants and a comfortable, Old Navy Retro shirt. I quickly put on my black leather, street shoes and bolted out the door.
Fuck! Only forty minutes left before the movie starts. It should take me about 15 minutes to get to Chance's apartment if I speed like crazy which I did for half the way when it dawned on me that it was not worth getting into an accident over. So I slowed down to a more reasonable speed. I finally got to Chance's apartment and knocked on the door as I glanced at my watch. Fuck, thirty-five after!
After three knocks, Chance's apartment door swung open. And my mouth nearly down to the floor as I behold who was standing on the other side. Stood in front was this incredibly sexy guy. He looks to be 6'3" with an amazing body. He was shirtless with just a pair of knee-length shorts and sandals on, and he had a silver, round medallion with an ancient hieroglyph engraved in the center of it, dangling on a purple satin string around his neck. He has the most amazing body I have ever seen. It was a work of art, perfectly sculpted and proportionate from head to toe. I was flabbergasted. He looks to be of Hawaiian descent, and he seems to exude this incredibly exotic sexual energy that I have never felt before. He could easily be a Boss's model, no doubt about it! He is not one of those drop, dead gorgeous guys that you get tired looking at after a while. Instead, he has this exotic, classically handsome face that commands your undivided attention and encourages your eyes to linger, spell-bounded. I was completely mesmerized. His warm soulful eyes, carelessly framed by his dark brown hair, stared at me, and I saw his delicious lips moved, but I couldn't seem to hear what he was saying. I was awe struck. After a few seconds, I finally snapped out of my trance as my senses rushed back to me.
"You're Michael, right?" he asked me curiously for the second time.
"Yeah...uhm, I am ," I stammered, almost completely speechless as I continued to stare at him.
"Well, good! Come on in! he said and flashed me the sexiest smile that I have ever seen.
At that moment, I thought I have died and gone to Heaven. Can he be anymore irresistible!
"I'm Dade, Chance's roommate," he introduced himself as he held out his hand to shake mine.
"Ah, very nice to meet you." I managed to squeak out.
"Have a seat," he said as he pointed to the beat-up couch. "Chance is in the bathroom. He should be out soon."
"Okay," I replied, finally coming back to Earth and settling into my body as I regained my composure. "How long have you known Chance?" I asked trying to struck up a conversation when I caught him checking me out.
"God....uhm....for about 5 years now?" he replied as he looked upward, trying to recall the number of years. "and we have become very, good friends."
"That's great," I replied casually.
"Yeah, Chance is really a great guy," he said and continued in a firm, protective, fatherly tone, "and I hate to see him get hurt!"
At that moment, I knew where he was going with this, and I was no longer under his spell. My defensiveness kicked in as I looked him straight in the eyes.
"So do I!" I replied assertively, not allowing his statement to bully me.
"Good!" he said, smiling at me.
At that moment the bathroom door swung open, and Chance entered the living room. He looked so damn cute, wearing a pair of black corduroy pants with a simple, stylish white shirt. He quickly greeted me with his sexy smile and a warm, long hug.
"I see you have met my roommate, Dade!" he exclaimed as he broke our hug and looked to a smiling Dade.
"Yes, we have!" Dade quickly replied.
"Good!"
"Love to talk with you some more, Dade," I announced with a hint of sarcasm, "but we better get going if we are to make it to the 6 o'clock show."
"Yeah, I guess we better get going then!" Chance quickly agreed as he put on a pair of black shoes.
"Ok, you guys have a great time!" Dade said with a tone of sincerity as he ushered us out the door with a smile.
"Well, good to meet you, Dade!" I quickly said as I held out my hand to shake his.
"Same here, Michael!"
With that, we were out the door and quickly filed into my car and sped away towards the theater.
Chapter 7:
I made good time in getting to the theater. We got there in about 10 minutes. Luckily, I was able to find parking quickly. Unfortunately, the ticket line was long. It took us over 5 minutes to get our tickets. We quickly went inside when we finally got our tickets.
"Do you want something to eat, Chance?" I asked as we walked by the concession stand. Normally, I hardly ever get anything from the concession because I don't care to munch while watching a good movie, but I made an exception this time since I overslept and missed lunch.
"Sure!" Chance gladly replied.
"What would you like?"
"A hotdog and a coke would be fine!"
"Ok, I'll order, and you go ahead and save us seats!" I suggested.
Chance nodded and walked away.
"What can I get you?" the teeny-bopper behind the counter asked.
"A hotdog and an Italian sausage and two cokes, please," I said while handing the young fellow my money.
"That will be $10.98," he said as he took my money.
I quickly rushed into the theater with our overly price food and drinks in hand. When I got there, the previews were already rolling and the room were near pitch black. I stood at the entrance for a few seconds, allowing my pupils to dilate and adjust to the darkness. After a minute, my night vision finally kicked in as I scanned the room for Chance.
"Michael!" I heard a familiar voice in a half shout calling me. I looked up towards the last row to see Chance waving me up. I immediately climbed the flight of stairs to get to the top last row and sat down next to Chance. I'm glad he has chosen the upper last row. It would give us a bit more private if we later choose to be physical or something during the movie, not that I had any hidden, ulterior motives in mind!
"Here, let me give you hand," Chance said as grabbed the drinks.
"Thanks," I said as I settled into my seat and proceeded to hand Chance his hotdog as he gave me my coke drink. I turned to Chance, and we stood there looking at each other for a few seconds. He looked amazing as the dim light of the screen reflected on his face, outlining his sharp facial features and soft, luscious lips. We stood there smiling at each other, glad that the moment has finally arrived, that we are here on our first official date together. The previews finally stopped rolling as we turned our attention to the feature presentation.
The movie was great! For those of you who haven't seen "American Beauty," you should. It's definitely a must-see in my book if you are interested in an extraordinarily well-acted, well- written, and highly entertaining movie with an incredible, powerful message. If this doesn't sound like your kind of movie, then never mind. As wonderfully engaging the movie was, I find myself staring at Chance from time to time. He looked so beautiful as the theater light accentuated his striking facial features. His lips looked so delectable. I just want to taste them right then and there. But I didn't want to draw any attention to us nor did I want to be presumptuous! I also caught him staring at me a few times throughout the movie. We would simply smiled at each other during those moments before turning our attention back to the screen. Just a little over two hours, the movie ended, and we filed out of the theater.
"Wow, what a great movie!" I exclaimed as we exited the theater.
"Yeah, I was pleasantly surprise at how good it was, and what a great theme!" Chance said excitedly.
"Plus, the view was great where I was sitting!" I said with a smile, trying to pay him a compliment.
Chance smiled shyly. "Ditto!" he replied cheerfully.
We both stood there looking at each other like two love puppies, smiling and laughing at our comments.
"Are you hungry? Do you want to grab a bite?" I asked as I heard my stomach growling again.
"Yeah, that will be great!" Chance replied hungrily.
"Uhm...what do you feel like eating?"
"Chinese's would be good!" Chance exclaimed.
"Ok, there's a pretty good Chinese restaurant a couple of blocks down the street. We can go there if you like!" I suggested.
"Yeah, that's cool!" Chance smiled at me.
So we walked down the street towards the restaurant. As we were about to reach the restaurant, we came across a homeless man, rummaging through the dumpster for left-over food in the alley. I stopped for few seconds and looked at the poor guy. God, I hate seeing people hungry and having to dig through the garbage for food. My heart goes out to the guy.
When we got to restaurant, we saw that it was packed! Oh, shit, I thought, this is not going to work.
"I think we will be waiting until tomorrow for a table," I exclaimed as I turned to face Chance.
Then, I had an idea. "Hey Chance, do you mind if we order to go and go some place a bit quieter and private so we can talk?" I suggested.
"Sure, where did you have in mind?" Chance asked curiously.
"I was thinking about driving to Lover's Point in the City. It has a great, panoramic view of the City, and we can eat and talk there!"
"Yeah, definitely. I know that summit. It's definitely worth a trip!" Chance replied excitedly.
"Great!"
So we went up to the ordering counter, and was greeting by a friendly middle-aged Asian lady.
"Hello boys, what can I get you?" she asked with smile.
"Uhm...I'll have the fried rice special with Mongolian beef and cabbage, please!" Chance ordered.
"And I'll have the steamed rice combo with honey chicken and string beans, please." I exclaimed as I looked at their overhead menu.
"Anything to drink?" the lady asked.
"Uhm...a Raspberry Passion Snapple for me," Chance replied.
"I'll take a soy milk can and a bottle of water, please!" I replied as I started to hand her my money when Chance stopped me.
"No, it's ok, Michael. I got this one!" Chance exclaimed as he handed the lady his money.
"You sure?" I double-checked.
"Yeah, definitely." He smiled at me as the lady handled him his change.
"Oh, I almost forgot. I want to make another order!" I told the lady. "Please add another fried rice combo with sesame chicken and broccoli and a big bottle of water. And please put it in separate bag!"
Chance gave me a curious look. I simply smiled and paid the lady.
"Please have a seat. Your order will be ready in about 10 minutes," the lady announced as she pointed to the chairs near the entrance. So we sat down and chatted a bit about the movie when our order number was called. We quickly got up and took our two bags of food and drinks.
We proceeded to walk back to the theater to where I parked my car. And when we walked by the alley, the same homeless guy was still rummaging through the dumpster for left-over food. I held out my left hand to stop Chance.
"Could you wait for me here for a second. I want to see if the guy want this food!" I asked Chance as I pointed to the bag that I was carrying.
"Sure!" Chance replied, a bit pleasantly surprised at my request and smiled at me.
"Thanks!" I said as I took a business card out of my wallet and some change and dropped them into the bag. Chance looked curiously at me without saying anything as I walked up to the man.
"Excuse me, Mister!" I exclaimed as I tapped the guy on the shoulder. "Would you like something to eat?"
The guy turned away from his food hunting expedition and looked up at me with a bewildered look on his face.
"Would you like to have this?" I asked as I held out the bag of food and drink.
"Uhm....yeah!" he finally replied with a stunned, slight smile on his face as he reached for the bag. "Thanks!"
"You bet!" I replied, happily. "There is a business card inside and some money. Please call the number on the card!" I said earnestly.
"Uhm...ok," the guy replied dumb-foundedly as he looked into the bag to see what I was talking about.
"Ok, take care!" I said as I turned around and walked towards Chance.
When I came back to Chance, he had this big grin on his face.
"You're unbelievable!" Chance exclaimed as he shook his head and smiled at me. "Do you always stop to feed the homeless?
"No," I replied casually, "only those who have to fish through dumpsters for left-overs!" I smiled.
Chance just stood there with a fat grin and shook his head in disbelief. "You know, you're the second person that I know that would do such a thing!"
"Oh, yeah. Who the first?" I asked curiously.
"Dade!" Michael exclaimed.
"Oh, really! That's cool!" I replied.
"Yeah, very!" Chance concurred as we turned and started walking towards the theater. "By the way, what was on that card that you gave to the guy?"
"Oh, it has the phone numbers of a local homeless shelter and food bank! My friend works at one, and he gave me extra cards to pass out when the opportunity presents itself."
We soon got back to my car, and we were on our way to the City, to Lover's Point.
Chapter 8 (Lover's Point):
It took us over an hour to get to Lover's Point. As we cruised on the highway to the City, the night air smelled usually sweet tonight! Maybe it's just my imagination. Maybe because I'm with Chance. Or maybe because I'm falling in love. Who knows? Who cares? All I know is that I'm on a dream date with a sweet guy who I'm really attracted to physically and spiritually a guy who I really want to get to know better!
As we made our way up to the summit of Lover's Point, Madonna's dance remix of "American Pie," came on the radio, and I started to sing along. God, I love the dance remix of this classic!
"A Madonna's fan, huh!" Chance asked with a big grin on his face as he put up with my singing.
"Yeah, sure am!" I replied matter-of-factly as I turned to look at his beautiful face. "She's the best."
Chance smiled and nodded.
By the time the song finished, we have reached Lover's Point. I parked in one of the vacant spot, a bit away from the main road traffic. We quickly filed out of my car with our take-outs and drinks, and sat on the edge of the hood of my car. The view is spectacular! You can see almost the entire City from up here, sparkling with lights. It's an amazing sight, almost magical! A light coastal breeze gently greeted us as we sat and ate our take-outs and talked up a storm about everything and nothing, warming up for more personal questions. And all the while, I had this incredible urge to kiss Chance's unbelievably irresistible lips. I was mesmerized by them again. But I held back, as much as I wanted to, I didn't want to be presumptuous and scare the him away. We finally finished our food and tossed the empty boxes in a nearby trash can and started to talk about more personal stuff.
"So when did you know that you were gay, Michael?" Chance asked casually as he turned and looked at me intensely.
"Wow, that's a tough one!" I paused for a few seconds to ponder his question before continuing on. "Well, Chance, it definitely didn't happen over night. I didn't exactly wake up one day and realized that I was gay. It was more like a culmination of thoughts and emotions that tended to lean towards the gay side that I experienced over the years."
I looked at Chance for his reaction. He simply nodded as he listened attentively.
"And the realization that I was gay didn't really hit me until my junior year in high school. Before then I guess I have always had a fascination for the male body, more than I realized or even begin to accept. I remembered staring a bit longer than normal at cute guys in middle school. And I never really thought about why I was doing this. And when I did questioned my behavior, I would rationalized the leering as normal admiration for another man's body. At that time, I did not have any sexual thoughts about another guy just simple appreciation for the male body, how magnificent and beautiful and perfect it is a true work of art at its best!"
"Yeah, I know what you mean." Chance added softly.
"What about you Chance, when did you realized that you were gay?" I returned the question.
"It was also during my junior year in high school," Chance replied. "And it was very hard for me to accept."
I nodded empathetically as he continued.
"At the time, I had a girl-friend. And she was great. Very sweet, pretty and smart. We were together for a while, and we even lost our virginity together. Then all of a sudden, all the repressed gay emotions and thoughts surfaced with a vengeance. I started to have sexual thoughts and fantasies about guys that I never had before. And it freaked the hell out me! And I didn't know what to do. Anyway needless to say, we eventually broke up."
Chance paused and looked at me before continuing on.
"I was so confused back then, Michael. I was in great emotional and mental turmoil over my sexual identity. It was the hardest year of my life. I was even suicidal." Chance confessed as he looked reflectively into the distance before continuing on with his thoughts. "And thank God for Dade, or I probably would have ended my life!"
I looked at Chance in shock as I grabbed his left hand and gently squeezed it. He turned and strained a slight smile as he continued.
"I met him during my junior year in high school in swimming class. I guess he picked me up on his bi-dar scope and befriended me. Apparently, he intuitively picked up on my distress and depression. He really helped me to understand all these new sexual feelings I was experiencing and really helped me to accept them and be okay with them. And it took a while before I was able to accept the fact that I am gay. He truly was a life saver, literally, during that tumultuous year. I probably wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for him. I owed him so much. He is truly the best friend that anyone can ask for." Chance finally finished.
God, my heart goes out to Chance for what he went through. Plus, because I can identify and understand the emotional distress and sexual confusion that he experienced. And a part of me is glad that Chance has such a great and caring friend like Dade. But another part of me is also a bit jealous of Dade, for having such a close bond and friendship with Chance which I don't know if I could ever achieve with him. I know, it's selfish of me to feel this way, and I'm not proud of it, just being honest.
I squeezed Chance's hand again gently. "I'm so glad that you have such a great friend like Dade to help you through those rough times. And above all, I'm glad you that you are here today," I said as I looked into his soulful, deep blue eyes . He looked so vulnerable and beautiful as the light of the moon graced his face, outlining his handsomely sharp features. And I couldn't help myself any longer. So I leaned in and planted a soft, light kissed on his lips, and slowly backed off to gauge his reaction. To my pleasant surprise, he leaned into me and kissed me back deeply and passionately. I was in Heaven. He tasted so good, so manly sweet as my tongue explored every inch of his delectable mouth. After several minutes, we finally backed off for air. We both stood there, smiling coyly at each other as we hold hands and take in what has just transpired.
"What about you, Michael, did you have any girl-friends or boy-friends in high school?" Chance asked curiously.
I smiled. "Well, actually I did," I replied. "I went steady with a girl when I was a freshman in high school. Then with another girl named Katelin during part of my sophomore year. We lost our virginity together. Inevitably, we broke up because I was beginning to find myself getting attracted to guys. Of course, she didn't know that. And I definitely did everything that I could to suppress those new sexual thoughts and feelings. I actually succeeded in doing so for a while. And believe it or not, I even attempted one more try at being straight!" I said, shaking my head in disbelief at my stubbornness at the time.
Chance looked at me intensely as he patiently listened on.
"My best friend, Stacy, and I started to date each other and became boy-friend and girl-friend during the beginning of my junior year in high school. I met her in middle school, and we became fast friends. Stacy is great! She's absolutely beautiful, witty, smart, and a very good friend. We never really dated each other before then because both of us were usually already with someone. But she broke up with her boy-friend shortly after I broke up with Katelin. And I guess both of us were in great need of mutual comfort and support. So I guessed we latched onto each other. She was my last attempt at being straight. I thought that my past relationships didn't worked out because I didn't really care whole-heartedly for those girls. But I really loved and cared for Stacy, and I really wanted to make it work. We even slept together. And I thought that this time it would be different. That the sex would be better because I actually loved and cared for this person. But it was just the same. It has done nothing to relinquish my growing attraction to cute guys, and it strained our relationship. Stacy was getting suspicious, and I could no longer keep up with the charade. I can no longer continue to lie to her, and especially to myself. So I told her, just weeks before the Junior Prom." I paused as I shivered a bit as a blast of chilly, night air hit me.
Chance quietly moved closer to me and wrapped his arm around me. I could feel the warmth of his body and the beating of his heart. It felt so good to be held by him. I smiled as I looked into his eyes. He smiled back.
"Anyway, summer came, and Stacy went to stay with her cousin in Maui for a few weeks. I tried numerous times to contact her, but she refused to talk to me. I was devastated. I felt like I have lost my best friend. It was the hardest months of my life. I felt so alone and confused about everything. Luckily, I have an incredibly supportive brother and an unconditionally loving sister. I don't think that I could have made it through without Eric and Catherine. They're the best!" I said proudly. God, I love them so much. "Apparently, they sensed something was up when they came to visit me during the summer. I remembered them taking me out to this small, quaint French restaurant for dinner, and asked me what was going on. I finally confessed to them that I am gay, and that I have just broken up with Stacy. They were amazing, Chance! They didn't even flinch when I told them that. They simply smiled and gave me the longest hug and told me that they loved me no matter what. And I just broke down and cried my heart out with joy as I released all the pent up emotions. Luckily, we sat at a pretty secluded table because I must have been quite a spectacle that night." I smiled as I recalled that evening. I will never forgive that night. Having siblings like them is one in a million. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world!
"So did Stacy ever speak to you again?" Chance finally injected as he stared at me.
"Yeah, she came over my house a few days after she got back from Maui, and apologized profusely for her behavior and reaction to my news. I couldn't really blame her for reacting the way she did. I bet it's pretty shocking and devastating to find out that your boy-friend is gay! Anyway, it turned out that her cousin in Maui is gay, and he really helped her to understand my predicament. And we became even closer and better friend since then. She also goes to our University."
"Oh, yeah, I would love to meet her sometimes!" Chance exclaimed as the night breeze gently blow across his careless dark hair.
"Sure, that can be arranged," I replied, smiling. "So have you come out to anyone, Chance? I asked curiously.
"Well, only to Dade and a couple of my closer friends. But I haven't told my parents yet!" Chance replied with sadness in his tone.
"May I ask why?"
"For starter, they are one of the most critical people in the world. They already disapproved of my major because they think it's an unstable and non-lucrative profession. They want me to become an architect, or an engineer or something more well-paid and respectable. Anyway, I just know that they wouldn't understand and would go berserk if I tell them that their only son is gay! It would only make matters worse. So for now, I think that it's best for them not to know!" Chance looked at me with a sad, heart-aching expression on his sweet face. "What about you, Michael, have you told your parents?"
"Yeah, during my first year in college."
"How did they take it?" Chance asked curiously.
"Not great at first. They were not too thrill with the idea that I am gay. My parents are pretty liberal people, especially my dad, but it was too close to home, and it took them a while to accept the fact. My dad took it pretty well, but my mom, on the other hand, had a tough time dealing with it. We had a big shouting match when I came out to her. And I didn't speak to her for about 6 months. She finally came to visit me one day and apologized for her reaction. I'm pretty lucky that I had Eric and Catherine, backing me up. They really helped me to stand up to my parents." I finally finished at I looked up at the night sky. I was able to see a nice cluster of stars over head despite of the City's lights.
"Well, thanks your lucky star, Michael." Chance smiled at me.
"Yeah, I do. Everyday!"
"So did you have any boyfriends in high school?" Chance changed the subject as he looked at me curiously.
I smiled as I looked into his eyes. "No, not really. I experimented with a couple of cute guys in high school, but I wouldn't exactly call them my boyfriends. However, I had a couple of boyfriends from Hell during my first two years at the University." I started to laughed a bit. It seems mildly amusing now, but it wasn't so funny at the time.
Chance's eyes widen as he sat up and listened attentively. "Boyfriends from Hell, huh?"
"Yeah!" I shook my head as I recalled my previous relationships. "The first one was Marc. I met him during my freshman year at the University. He was pretty cute and very romantic. He would cook and do all these nice things for me. But then a few months into the relationship, his jealous and possessive nature reared its ugly head. He became unreasonably demanding and possessive. He didn't liked that I was spending so much time with Stacy and my other friends. Anyway, I finally said good-bye to the psycho! Then during my sophomore year, I met this really cute guy named Jason who was really out-going and love to have fun and sex a lot. We went out for a few months, and since we usually did it at my place, I gave him the keys to my apartment. Anyway, one day I came home early, and heard grunting and groaning noises from my bedroom. I quickly walked to my bedroom and opened the door to find the bastard fucking another guy! I was so pissed at the asshole. I started to cuss the living daylight out of the bitch and chased his naked, cheating ass out of my apartment along with his boy toy and locked the door! The bastards pranced around buck-naked for over15 minutes." I exclaimed and laughed as I recalled the incident.
"No way!" Chance started to laugh with me.
"Yeah, way!" I replied in between laughter. "Anyway, after about 15 minutes, I threw the slut his car keys. I'm not heartless, you know." I said, smiling wickedly at Chance. "Anyway, after those two boyfriend experiences, I decided to stay clear of the dating scene for a while and focused on my studies and on myself especially. I met a good friend who introduced me to Eastern philosophy and spirituality at the time. And I became fascinated with all these spiritual ideas and concepts and started to applied them to my life. I also spent a lot of alone, quality time with myself to really get to know the real me. And thus far, it has been a great journey of self-exploration and discovery for me!" I finally finished and looked at him for his reaction.
Chance simply smiled and exclaimed, "That's great, Michael!"
"What about you, Chance? Did you have any boyfriends in high school?" I asked curiously.
Chance took in a deep breath before replying. "No, not really. I experimented with gay sex during my senior year in high school with Dade. He was the first. I remembered how scared I was even though I was wildly curious." Chance looked at me to gauge my reaction.
My eyes widen as I was a bit shock to hear this fact. Now I'm a bit jealous!
Chance sighed and continued on. "Anyway, I also fooled around with a few other guys in high school. Then when I came to the University, I met this very attractive guy, and we went out for a while. He turned out to be overly sexed, and that's all he seems to care and want. And I wanted more than that. I wanted a relationship, and he didn't, so we went our separate ways. Then during my second year, I met this guy named Jeremy. He seemed to be more committal and interested in a relationship. He was very nice, sweet and romantic. He even bought me a cellular phone which I thought was a nice gesture at first until he constantly called me to keep track of where I was and what I was doing. He became unreasonably possessive and jealous. Anyway, one night when I came over to his place, we got into a big argument. He accused me of lying to him about where I was that evening. And in the heat of the argument, he sucker punched me in the face, knocking me to the floor." Chance said calmly as he looked reflectively into the distance.
I felt my blood boiled at the thought of the bastard striking my Chance. I reached over and grabbed Chance's hand as he continued.
"Anyway, I quickly got off the floor, rubbing my aching jaw. The bastard started to apologized profusely to me, begging for forgiveness. But I simply ignored his plead and looked at the bastard straight in the eyes and said, "If you every touch me again, I will KILL YOU, you BASTARD!" Then, I turned away, and I walked out of the apartment. And that was the last time I saw that loser!" Chance finally finished as he sighed and looked into the distance. I squeezed his hand gently, relieved and glad to hear that he could stand up for myself. He turned to me and smiled slightly. We then turned our gazes to the distant lights, and just sat there, holding hands without saying another word for what seems like an eternity before I glanced at my watch and realized that it was past one.
"Hey Chance, we better start heading home." I suggested as I showed him the time.
"Yeah, you're right!" he replied as he hopped off the hood of my car.
We stood there at Lover's Point, holding hands and took in the spectacular City's lights one more time before getting into my car and drove off. The drive back was pleasant as we continued to chit chat, this time a bit more on lighter stuff. We finally arrived back at Chance's apartment.
"Well, Chance, I had a really good time tonight, and I hope that you did too." I said as I looked into his beautiful eyes and parked the car.
"Yeah, me too, Michael." Chance replied with a his sweet smile. "I hope that we can continue to see each other."
"Yeah, definitely!" I exclaimed excitedly as I smiled warmly at him.
"Well, good night!" I said as I leaned in to kissed him good night. Damn, his lips tasted so good. After a long passionate kissed, Chance got out of the car and waved me good-bye as I drove away.
I quickly got home and stripped down to my boxer shorts and hopped into bed. Wow, what a day I thought to myself as I felt my body succumbed to sleep. I quickly dozed off as dreamy visions of Chance danced in my head.
