Notes: This story is a little different. For each section, you have a choice to read the story from the view point of one of the two main characters: the fictional Scott Waters or Brian Littrell. BUT: If you read the story from both view points you'll get the entire story, particularly when the characters are not together.
I apologize if I seem to be in a bit of a time warp, but the idea for the story came to me and it fit the time line (hence the story's name Millennium Love). The story starts in October 1998 and runs up to the new millennium. Also, if some events don't coincide with real events, remember, it's only fiction!
Please let me know what you think of the story and the format for it.
Legalities: This story is fictitious. It is not meant to imply anything about any of the Backstreet Boys or anyone else. No, I am not Brian Littrell, or Scott Waters. If you're offended, go away. If you're curious, keep reading, you might like it ;-)

Millennium Love - Brian ********** Part 1 **********
I ran around the corner and darted across the road. I heard the cars squeal tires as they stopped but I didn't care. All I wanted was to get away before they ripped me apart. I looked over my shoulder and could just see the first of the mob rounding the corner. I ducked down beside a parked car, trying to catch my breath. I knew if they caught me, I could be in serious trouble.
"I would say you have two choices," a voice suddenly said. I looked up, startled. The man continued, "You could get in," the door popped open slightly, "Or you could run."
As far as I was concerned, there wasn't a choice to be made. I crawled over to the door and hauled it open. I closed it quietly behind me, trying not to attract attention from the nearby girls. I kept my head down as I tried to catch my breath. I could feel the car pick up speed but I remained slouched over, not taking any chances.
"You can sit up now," the man beside me said quietly.
I finally sat up and pulled the baseball cap off my head. It was wet from sweat, and obviously hadn't helped disguise me much. I quickly ran my fingers through my damp hair. Then I turned to look at my rescuer. `Wow, what incredible green eyes.' I thought, but said aloud, "You are a lifesaver, man." I smiled. "I don't know how to thank you." I held out my hand and introduced myself. "I'm Brian Littrell."
The man shook my hand, and introduced himself. "Scott Waters. Nice to meet you Brian."
I could tell that he recognized me, but he didn't mention it, and for that, I was grateful. I don't even remember what we talked about for the next few minutes. My thoughts were scattered and I kept thinking about this man's, Scott's, black curly hair and green eyes. I wondered if he was gay. Finally I leaned back in the seat and stared out the window. So rarely did I get to be away from everyone. I wanted to enjoy a few minutes of quiet. I felt so comfortable with Scott it was strange.
"Um, Brian?" I heard Scott say.
"Mmm?" I responded groggily not wanting to think just yet.
"Where are you staying? What's the name of your hotel?" he asked, sounding a little concerned.
I noticed it was getting dark out, and I knew I had somewhere to be, but for the moment, I didn't care. Someone else was in control. I just enjoyed watching the city go by for a few more minutes. Finally, I rolled my head to look at Scott. "Sorry," I said sheepishly and sat up in the seat. "I was just enjoying a few minutes of absolute peace without hysterical fans or the other guys around." I told him truthfully.
He smiled. "No problem. It must be difficult finding some down time for yourself when you're married to four other guys." I glanced at him. Was that his way of asking if I was gay? I thought about broaching the subject, but knew I couldn't expose myself to the potential fallout.
Instead I asked, "So where are we headed?"
"Well, I was heading to a grocery store then home before…" he let his sentence remain unfinished, and grinned at me.
`Nice smile,' I thought, then laughed self-consciously. "I'm sorry about this. I was out shopping in the Eaton Center and thought I was keeping a low profile. Then I got careless. I found something I wanted to buy but didn't have the cash for," I paused. "I pulled out my credit card and the cashier…"
Scott finished my sentence, "was a teenage girl who went hysterical and attracted the attention of a few dozen other girls?"
"Exactly." I said with a smile. Then another thought occurred to me and I lost my smile. I looked at my watch. "Damn," I swore quietly.
"What's wrong?" Scott asked.
"You wouldn't happen to have a cell phone? I'm supposed to meet the guys for dinner at five and it five to five now. I left my phone in the hotel room."
Scott smiled and indicated the glove compartment. "My parents insisted that I have a phone in case of emergencies, I guess this constitutes one."
I smiled and pulled out the phone. This man was unique, and had a beautiful smile. I noticed Scott pulled into a variety store as I began dialing Kevin's cell number. I knew my cousin was going to be angry. "Hey Kev, its me," I said then held the phone away from my ear.
"Bri, where the hell are you?" Kevin shouted. "Brian?"
"Our mother hen," I said to Scott as I returned the phone to my ear and began talking to Kevin. Scott got out of the car and went into the store.
I listened to Kevin bitch me out as I looked around the car. It was definitely Scott's car. As I turned around, I knocked the CD player and a disc began playing. I smiled to myself when I heard my own voice begin to sing. Kevin had finally calmed down.
"Kevin, I'm sorry. I should have called sooner, but things just got out of hand," I explained.
"Are you okay Brian? What happened," I could hear the genuine concern in his voice.
"I'll explain later. But I have to tell you about this guy that picked me up." Before I could say anything else, Kevin interrupted.
"Brian, are you crazy, taking a ride from a stranger?" He was exasperated. "Brian, wherever you are, call a cab and come to the restaurant. We'll wait for you. Okay?"
I sighed, I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere with Kevin on the phone. "Okay Kevin. But this guy, Scott, he really helped me out…" I paused before diving in, "and he's cute and down-to-earth. He didn't flip when he realized who I was…"
"Brian!"
I decided to give up. "Okay Kevin, I'll be there as soon as I can."
While I'd been talking to Kevin, the CD had continued playing. I realized almost immediately that it was a compiled CD, obviously featuring Scott's favorite Backstreet Boys songs. I didn't have much experience in determining if someone was gay or not, but as far as I could tell, not many straight guys liked us that much. I smiled to myself. Maybe there was hope.
I opened the door and joined Scott where he was leaning against the front of the car. He handed me a bottle of coke. "Thanks," I said gratefully before taking a few swallows. "Talking to Kevin can really dry a guy out," I said with a laugh. Scott was watching me, and I realized I probably looked like hell.
"So what's happening?" Scott asked after another quick swallow of pop.
I told him Kevin's idea. "I'm going to call a cab and head back to the restaurant. Kev said that they would still be there."
"Brian," Scott said seriously, "I honestly don't mind driving you." `Thank you god,' I thought. Scott continued, "This isn't the best part of the city and it could take a while for a cab to get here."
I looked at Scott intently. "Do you do this often? Pick up complete strangers and drive them all over the city?" I really wanted to know what type of man he was.
Scott shook his head emphatically. "God no! My parents would kill me if they knew I picked up a stranger in downtown Toronto. Even where I grew up in the sticks north of here, I never picked up hitchhikers or anything." he looked directly into my eyes, "But even before I knew who you were I could see that you were in trouble. What kind of human would I be if I had left you at the mercy of the mob?" He turned to get back in the car, "Of course, I could take you back to the girls if you want?"
That last comment started me shaking. I knew he was only joking but the memory of almost being caught by fifty screaming girls flashed through my mind. Scott must have noticed my reaction because he stepped back to the front of the car. He tentatively reached out to touch my shoulder. "Hey Brian, Sorry. It was only a joke. I wouldn't wish that scene on anyone." He said apologetically. I knew he was sincere.
I could feel the unshed tears but managed a weak smile as I looked up at Scott. "I know. It just got a little scary, that's all." I turned and opened the passenger door, "so you giving me a ride or what?" I asked flashing one of my best smiles.
I'd realized that Scott was about six foot one, when I'd looked up at those incredible green eyes. His black hair made the eyes even brighter. I was almost positive he was gay, but how could I let him know I was interested without risking the band and myself. I would have to try to figure something out, but at least I could spend a little more time talking to him. Besides, he probably was taken. Don't people say, `the good ones always are'?
Scott pulled back onto the street heading south. I gave him the address for the restaurant. He seemed to know where he was going so I just relaxed and enjoyed the company. We began talking again, about nothing and about everything. I was amazed how easy it was to talk to him and I was sure Scott felt the same way. Despite the rush hour traffic we made it to the restaurant in just over half an hour, arriving at five forty- five. Scott pulled into the parking lot, and stopped. I didn't want to say goodbye to him yet.
"Well, its been interesting," Scott said as he turned to me and held out his hand.
I ignored it and got out, turning to look back inside. "Coming?" I asked, looking at him, silently begging him to say `yes'.
"Excuse me?"
At least he didn't say no. I closed the door and walked around to the driver's side. Opening the door, I pulled Scott out. "After saving my life this afternoon and driving me so far out of your way, the least I can do is buy you dinner." With that, I grabbed his arm and directed him towards the restaurant. I held the door open, and as Scott walked past I whispered, "Besides, I want to prove to Kevin that I was telling the truth and wasn't picked up by some psychotic stalker." I grinned at him and we both laughed aloud. This man was so different from anyone I'd met, who knew who I was. The afternoon had started out so terrible with the mob, but it had certainly taken a turn for the better.
The inside of the restaurant was small and most of the customers were middle-aged or older. It only took me a second to spot the guys sitting in the back corner. They were staring at us and I prayed that Kevin wouldn't cause a problem. I grabbed Scott's arm enjoying the feel of his muscles beneath my fingers. We walked through the restaurant to join my friends.
"Guys, this is Scott Waters," I said as I pushed Scott towards an empty seat. "Scott, this is Nick, A.J., Kevin and Howie." I introduced them as they were seated around the table. I immediately saw a look of concern and suspicion on Kevin's face. I hoped he wouldn't do anything, but he did.
Kevin looked at me. "Brian, no offence Scott, but how could you bring a stranger here? He could be a reporter or something!" he said, clearly concerned.
Scott laughed aloud and we all looked at him. "Me, a reporter? Would you believe I've really never even been out of Ontario except to Quebec a couple of times?" I could see that he was upset. I didn't blame him. Kevin had no right to attack him.
"For your information, I'm from a small town north of Toronto and work as a Web administrator for an electronics company here in the city." He was angry now and attacked Kevin. "You know, I used to wonder why tourists always said Canadians were so polite compared to Americans. I never really noticed until now." He stood up and walked away. I could barely breathe. I tried to follow Scott, but the others grabbed me.
"Who the hell do you think you are Kevin?" I spat at him.
