Chapter Twelve
"Look, I know you want to ride with Darryl, but they don't know Darryl or Nikita. They will recognize you. It's safer for them to travel together."
Colt knew what Kevin said was true, but he still didn't like the idea. He had a bad feeling, like they were walking into a trap. If that were the case, it would be better that Nikita and Darryl travel separate from him and Kevin.
Colt gave Darryl a kiss and a hug.
"Be careful, my love," whispered Darryl.
Colt nodded and then walked over to Niki. They hugged. "Take care of him and yourself. I trust you," whispered Colt, then he turned and got on the back of Kevin's bike.
"Give us a half-hour lead. We'll meet you at Place de la Contrescarpe to plan," said Kevin.
Niki and Darryl nodded.
As soon as Kevin and Colt were out of site. Niki reached into his back pocket and pulled out Colt's PDA which he'd felt Colt slip into his pocket when they hugged.
The message on the PDA read: "Niki/Darryl something's not right. It's just a feeling; I think we are being lead into a trap. If you get a message from Mother your access code is baby-blue-eyes."
"Fuck this half an hour shit!" said Niki, "Let's go. I think Colt's gonna need our help. I don't trust Kevin."
"Me neither," stated Darryl.
*****
"Pull over!" shouted Colt.
Kevin pulled over to the side of the road.
"What's up?" asked Kevin.
"Why are we going to Amiens? Paris was that way!"
"Because that's where they are holding Arbor. The company has an old abandoned warehouse there except it's not abandoned. It's a very high-tech facility."
"Mother said Paris," voiced Colt.
"Mother was wrong. It's a computer Colt. It can make a mistake, if it's fed wrong data. You think the guys that are after Mother haven't figured out that Mother has access to GPS data?"
"But Darryl and Niki are heading to Paris."
Kevin rolled his eyes. "It's better that way. Safer for them, amateurs always mess things up and usually get themselves killed."
"How do you know they are in Amiens?" asked Colt.
"Logic. I know of this facility. It's out of the way. Sure I might be wrong, but I don't think I am. I know the way these people operate."
Colt nodded. He was worried, but there was little he could do right now, except to hope that Mother somehow would figure a way out for him and Arbor. "Let's go," he said softly.
They pulled back on the road, neither being aware of the Citroen following them.
****
It was late afternoon as Kevin parked the motorcycle. "We can't just go rushing in there in broad daylight. Let's grab something to eat and once it gets dark we'll scout out the place."
Colt nodded and followed Kevin into the café.
Kevin ordered for them. "Look, I know you're worried, but you need to relax because you are going to have to have all your wits later. We'll figure out a way in and then find Arbor."
"Yeah, I guess you're right. I can't get over the fact that they killed Ruthie…and Dad." A few tears rolled down Colt's cheek and he quickly wiped them away as the waiter appeared with their drinks.
Colt sat and stared at his cup of coffee. "Something, isn't right," he thought.
"Look, I'm going to hit the john. Drink up you'll feel better, Okay?" Kevin said, sympathetically.
After a few minutes the waiter brought their food. "Is your coffee not to your liking?" asked the waiter.
Colt looked at him, "Oh, no it's fine. I was just thinking about something."
"You look so sad. You should drink your coffee it will help you feel better. Now I want to see you take a sip," he smiled.
Colt smiled slightly and raised the cup to his lips and took a sip.
"It's good huh?"
"Yes," replied Colt as he took another large sip. It did make him feel relaxed, so he took another large sip. "Thank you…," he said slowly, as his body fell forward and the drink fell from his hand onto the floor.
The only two other customers in the café stood up.
"Get him out of here before someone comes in. Go out the back!"
