A Mutant's Tale

The start of a new beginning

vision

I sat under the old willow tree looking at the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen. It was so amazing how the pinks, oranges, yellows, and purples went together. I looked in the pond by the tree and smiled. I saw my light skin and my deep, dark blue eyes along with my black hair rippling in the water as the wind blew. I got up and started to head home. I walked in town and down the street. Quite a few people were out today. I walked down the street with the slight feeling that I was being watched. I wasn't watching where I was going when I ran into someone. We both fell to the ground. He got up and put his arm out. I grabbed it and he pulled me up. I saw him walking across the road and getting hit by a car I jumped a little as I came out of the trance that I was in. I saw the man walking down the sidewalk and was about to walk across the road when I yelled, "No! Mister, stop!"

The guy looked at me and right when he did a car blew right through the red light. Everyone was looking at me. Then someone yelled, "Its one of those mutant freaks!"

People started to run and so did I. I ran as fast as I could. I looked behind me to see if I was being followed. I was! It was that guy! I touched the fence when I went to turn the corner. A man with metal claws jumped out from behind me and grabbed me. I ran down the alley and I turned around and put out my hand. Blue fire shot out of my hand and hit the guy sending him flying back. I ran even faster. Then I saw a girl with red hair and the end of the alley flying at me. I threw fire at her but she put her hand out and the fire hit some kind of barrier. I felt someone put their arms around me. I saw these arms and knew it was the guy I had hit with my fireball, but his arms had no scorch marks on them.

"Let me go or else!" I said as I struggle to break free.

"Calm down kid. We want to help you." the guy said.

"Logan let put him down." a guy in a wheelchair said. Logan put me dropped me on the ground. I landed with a hard thud. I looked at them. There were three guys and one girl. "Mr. Rain Marcus I presume?"

"It depends on who wants to know." I said.

"Rain my name is professor Xavier. I'm here to help you." he said in a cool and calm tone.

"I don't need your help. I can take care of myself."

"Really? Is that why you have been on the run since you were thirteen? Moving from place to place? All because of your gift of premonition? Come with us and just see what we have to offer. If you dont like it we will bring you back here and leave you alone." he said as he came closer to me. "If you dont trust me take my hand and see for yourself. He put out his hand and I grabbed it. Nothing. No vision.

"You will bring me right back?" I asked.

"Yes right back to this very spot."

"And you'll leave me alone?"

"Yes. We will also give you a way to contact us if you ever want to." the professor said as we walked to the car that was waiting for us. I got in and we drove off.

"Master we got him." said a man who hopped on all fours.

"What about the other one?" A sinister man asked as he sat on his throne.

"A...he....he got away." the man stuttered.

"You incompetent fool! You cant even catch one kid!" Things started to fly out of control everywhere. "Get out of my sight before I kill you."

The man hopped as fast as he could out of the room.

"So Charals you have one piece of the puzzle and Ive got the other. What is your next move?"

We flew from Cleveland to Weschester in what they called the Black Bird. We walked up the hall that led from the main hanger to the elevator. From there, Scott, Jean, and Logan left just leaving me with the professor. We walked down another hall and at the end I could see two large wooden oak doors. As we got closer the doors opened revealing a large office with a big desk and two leather chairs. Plaques were hanging all over the walls. In the far left corner was a plant and on the right wall was a couch. he motioned for me to sit in one of the chairs. I sat down and looked at him

"What is this place?" I asked in shook at the size of it.

"This, Rain, is my school. It is a school for mutants. It is a place where you get education and you learn how to control your powers." the professor stated.

"Is that why Im here? You people think I need to learn to control my powers? If that is the case then you are wrong. I have good control." I said, a little irritated.

"That is part of it. Rain, your power of foresight is very rare. That and for some reason your flame is blue. I think for some reason out of all the mutants you are really special. There are people who will try to manipulate you and use you to hurt others. Rain, give me one month to see if I can help you. If we cant and you dont like it we will take you home." I looked at his face and it showed no emotion at all but his eyes told me that there was more.

"I will give it a try." I said.

"Eric, Hunter, come here." their master ordered. Eric and Hunter came into the room where their master sat.

"Yes? My master?" Hunter asked as he kneeled down in front of his master. Eric followed suit.

"I want you and Eric to retrieve the boy. Bring him here and use any means necessary to do so. Do I make myself clear?" master said.

"Yes sir." they both said in unison.

"And Eric, this is your chance to prove yourself to me. Dont let me down." they walked out of the room and took off.

We just finished talking. I stood up to leave when the professor put his hand out for me to shake. I put my hand out and shook it. A man with a gun shooting the professor and a kid about my age burning people. I jumped and tried to catch my breath. I jumped over the desk and shoved the professor out of the way as a gun shot. We both fell to the ground. Right at that time Jean came running through the doors.

"Professor!" she ran over and helped us up. "What happened?"

"I dont know. Rain?" they both looked at me.

"I had a vision. You got shot and..." I was interrupted by a large explosion. I looked at them. "The students!"

Me and Jean ran down the hall. When we got there the boy from my vision was there. I couldn't see what he looked like because the had a mask on. He just looked at me and smiled. He ran at me and threw a punch. It hit me dead on my jaw. I fell to the ground. It hurt. I jumped back up and smiled at him. I pulled my hand back like I was going to throw something. A dark blue fire ball appeared and I chucked it at him. It hit square in the chest, sending him flying back. He jumped back up and ran at me, grabbing my arm and pulling it back. All I heard was a snap. My arm went limp.

"AHH!" I screamed in pain. He walked over and I looked in his eyes. I could see the sorrow in them. There was so much pain. A little boy sitting on a chair seeing his mom and dad fight. The same kid just older getting hit by his father over and over. Same kid crying himself to sleep every night. He was beaten over and over.

I struggled for a breath. I looked to see where I was. I was in the med bay. I knew that cause I read the door. I heard shoes walking over to me. I looked to see Jean coming over to check on me.

"Youre awake." Jean said. "How do you feel?"

"Like crap. What happened?" I asked, feeling like I got the crap beat out of me, and then some.

"When you touched that kid you started to scream and then you just blacked out. What happened?" she had a wanting-to-know look on her face.

"Well when I grabbed him I had three visions right after another. Thats never happened before. Whoever that kids was I feel really sorry for him. He didn't have an easy life." I felt so sad for the guy. Growing up being hit all the time and having to see his mom get hit too! God, that would have sucked so bad I bet.

"So what happened after I blacked out?" I asked to change the subject we were on.

"Oh, Logan and the others came and the kid took off." she said, understanding why.

"What about the other guy?"

"What other guy?" she asked looking concerned.

"The one that shot the professor. You didn't catch him?" I said then it hit me. Oh my god the professor! Is he ok?"

"Calm down Rain. He's fine. He didn't get shot." I felt much better.

"Is it ok if I go?"

"Not yet, I need to run a scan on your arm. He broke your arm good from what it looked like."

"Oh. Ok" I said. She walked over to the corner of the room and pulled a machine over. She took my arm and laid it on the machine. A light zipped out of it and went back and forth over my arm. After she was done she put it back and walked over to the computer. I got off the bed I was on and stood behind her. She brought up the picture and looked at it in amazement.

"I dont get it." she said, looking astonished at the x-ray.

"What?" I asked.

"Your arm is fine. It looks like it was never broke. But your powers dont increase your healing. It doesn't make sense."

"What do you mean? I've always healed fast."

"I dont know. Maybe it didn't break. Well the professor said he wanted to see you when you woke up."

"How do I get there from here?" I asked, not knowing my way around.

"You go down the hall to the..." she was interrupted by the doors opening. A guy came in. He looked to be about seventeen. He was about 5'9 and about 180 pounds and buff. He had black hair and piercing dark brown eyes. His skin was an olive color. The way he carried himself was amazing.

"Jean can you help me with the work you gave us? I dont understand it." he asked.

"Can it wait till later Brandon? I have a lot of work to do." she said, looking at him.

"Yeah. Thanks." he said as he started to walk away.

"Hey Brandon can you do me a favor?" Jean asked right before he walked through the doors.

"Yeah. What do you need?" he said as he turned around.

"Can you take Rain to the professor? He doesn't know his way around." Brandon looked me over and smiled at her and then me.

"I think I can spare the time for that." Jean looked at him and then he started to laugh. "I promise I will Jean."

"Good." she said as turned back to her desk.

"You coming?" he asked.

"Uh...yeah." We walked out of the room and down the hall to the elevator. We walked in and he pressed the floor to go to.

"By the way my name is Brandon Haris. what's yours?" he asked.

"Rain. Rain Marcus." I said as I put out my hand. He shook it. Him laying in my bed with his arm wrapped around me. Holding me tightly. I jumped and caught my breath. It looked like he didn't see. "So what's your power?" I asked him.

"Well I have two. I have super reflexes and Im a shape shifter." he said. Then before my very eyes I saw him change into me. "See?" he asked in my voice. Then he changed back. "So what's yours?" he asked.

"Well I have vision of the future when I touch something like a person, and this." I said as I stuck out my hand. I made a blue fire ball appear in it. His eyes lit up.

"Wow! That's so cool!" he said with a smile. BLING. "This is our floor."

We walked out the elevator and talked until we made it to the office. The door opened and we walked in. The professor looked at us and motioned for us to sit.

"Brandon, I was just going to call you in." the professor said with his hands folded together.

"For what, sir?" Brandon said, surprise showing on his face.

"I wanted you to meet your new room mate." Brandon had a surprised but happy look on his face.

"As for you Rain, since you have nothing but what you have on Im going to give you some money. If it is ok with Brandon I would like him to take you to the mall."

"Of course I will professor X." Now I could tell he was really happy.

"Good then. Rain here his a credit card with a $5,000 limit. Use as much of it as you want. What you dont use you keep. I trust Brandon can explain it to you in detail." he said. He pulled out a credit card that had an "X" on it in a circle. "That will be all."

"Thanks professor for everything." I said with a smile on my face. We turned and left.

Brandon and I made it to the mall. It was a lot of fun. On the way he explained the whole money thing to me. We did a lot of shopping. I mean, man could this guy shop! I bought a lot of clothes, CDs, a pair of shoes, a laptop, and a guitar. I have always wanted to learn to play on so why not? After that went and got some food at the food court. It was so much fun. I really liked Brandon, but there was something in me that told me he's not the one. I really dont know what it was from, it was just a gut feeling. After we ate we went and saw a matinee. They were playing a horror movie. The movie was It, based on the book by Stephen King. Im not much of a brave person unless I have to be. I get scared easy. I think I didn't let go of his arm the whole movie, but I got the feeling he didn't care and that he liked it. Maybe it was wishful thinking or maybe not, I really dont know.

We left and headed home. He helped me carry all my stuff up to our room. He also helped me put away my stuff. When we were done we headed down to the game room.

Eric sat in his room. he was thinking about that guy. The one he fought at the mansion. There was something about him. What it was he didn't know. All he knew was that he was drawn to that guy. There was something about him. There was a knock at the door.

"Eric its me Sarah. can I come in?"

"Yeah." Sarah walked in and sat down by him on his bed.

"What's wrong? You look so sad." she said as she held his hand in hers.

"I dont know. You see there's this guy..."

"That explains it." she said cutting in.

"Yeah. Well hes the guy Hunter and I were after. I felt bad for fighting him. I wish I could find out why Im so drawn to him. I just dont get it." Eric said as he dropped his head, looking at his bed. Sarah put her hand on his shoulder, squeezing it.

"Give it time Eric. If its meant to happen it will. Just give it time. Hey! Ive got an idea. Why dont we do some training. Come on what do you say?"

I looked at her and smiled. She knew me better than anyone else. Maybe its because she was an emotion sensor. I dont really know. All I know is I dont know what I would do without her. I've known her for as long as I can remember. She was the one that found me on the streets. She saved me from a mob of people. She was the only girl that I love like I do. She was 5'6 and about 110 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair with red streaks. She grabbed my hand and we were off.
