"Yo, Justin! Get out of bed!!" Chris's voice echoed through the hall of the hotel as Justin rolled over to face the window. His weary eyes opened slowly and blinked in the bright sunlight. He couldn't believe it was morning already. His arm absentmindedly reached behind him, almost expecting to feel Matt's warm body there. As his hand hit the empty space, he suddenly remembered. He remembered everything.
"Come ON!!!" Chris yelled again, mock frustration in his voice.
"I'm coming," Justin called weakly. He pulled himself out of bed and walked to the open window, feeling a cold breeze hit his body. He pulled the window closed and saw his own reflection staring him in the face. That was the face that sent Matt away. That was the face that ruined everything. He turned sharply, rushing to the bathroom to splash cold water on his face. His mind wandered to JC-- the way his strong arms felt around him, the way he let Justin stay with him so long last night. He shook his head a bit violently, trying to shake the image before him.
"No," he told himself. "You love Matt. You will always love Matt. Not JC. No. Never."
But he couldn't help picturing JC smiling at him, listening intently to him, holding him. He could almost feel his arms around him, rubbing his tense muscles. He could almost feel his lips against his own. He was torn from this intense reverie by a loud pounding on the door. He heard Chris and Joey emitting various silly noises in an attempt to get his attention. He slowly sauntered to the door and opened it with a flourish, watching his bandmates lose their balance and nearly fall right on top of him.
"Ummm... hello." Joey said with an innocent look on his face.
"You guys are pure slapstick," Justin said with a laugh, pulling on his jacket and closing the door behind him.
"But you love us anyway, right?" Joey said with an expectant look on his face. Justin just laughed as Chris leapt on his back and ruffled his curly hair. It took him a second to adjust to the weight, but his firm quadriceps allowed him to stand up only slightly bent over. When he raised his head, his eyes spotted JC and Lance down the hall. Lance was sitting on the floor looking up at JC. Justin felt a twinge of jealousy as he noticed how JC was directing his complete attention to Lance.
"So I was all, 'yee-uh, you know it!' and yo, he was all, 'then I'ma go back to mah crib, y'all.'" JC said, his right hand cutting through the air in the style of Justin's favorite rapper, Eminem.
"Aww," Justin thought to himself, "I love it when he tries to be all ghetto-fabulous like that. It's so damn cute."
"Hey!" JC said as he noticed the three walking towards them.
"Yo, yo, yo." Joey said, mocking JC.
Chris hopped off Justin's back, neglecting to let go of his hair. Justin's head jerked back quickly and he reached up to massage his injured scalp. JC looked at him tenderly, placing his hand on his arm, moving his fingers in small circles.
"Are you okay?" he asked quietly. Justin knew he wasn't talking about the head injury. He was asking about something else entirely, something he hadn't told the other guys yet.
"Dude, I'm sorry. Sometimes I just get a little overexcited." Chris said sheepishly.
"I'm fine," Justin announced to the group. Then turning to face JC, his voice lowered, "I'm fine."
JC smiled and turned away. He didn't want to push too hard, but he hated to see Justin like this. The others seemed to be in such a good mood. Even Lance, who always seemed to be hurt or sad whenever he thought no one was looking. No one bothered to ask where Matt was. They were a little pre-occupied...
"Is it not time for breakfast?" Joey asked, a bit annoyed by the hold-up.
"Seriously. I'm so hungry," Lance said, jumping up from the floor.
"Yeah, let's go," Justin said with a grin.
JC gently put his arm around Justin as the five walked down the hall to the elevator. Justin slid his arm around JC's back, touching his outer hip. The two smiled at each other while Chris ran ahead, apparently in a huge rush to get downstairs. Joey and Lance followed, leaving JC and Justin behind.
"Did you get much sleep last night?" JC asked, concern dripping from his voice.
"I wish. It was a pretty rough night. I'm sorry I kept you up so late," Justin said, his eyebrows raising and forehead wrinkling.
"Don't worry about it. There are more important things than sleep."
"Ha! That's not something I'd expect to hear from you. What could possibly be more important than sleep?" Justin asked, feeling greatly bewildered.
"You."
