My New Life

This is the first attempt at a story that has been kicking around in my head for some time now. It is to be a story of friendship that develops between the main character, Marc Newman and the guys of N SYNC.

A special thank you goes out to Garret, my new friend and now my editor.

With his help we will hopefully eliminate the annoying spelling and typo errors. And now on with the story.

Last time.

Chris, half asleep. Was walking down the hall to the bathroom when the door flew open and out walks Justin and Marc.

Spotting Chris. Marc said. "Hi, Chris. The bathroom is all yours. We're done with it." Marc reached up to Justin's shoulders and starting massaging them. Justin, just moaned at Marc's touch as they went back to bed.

Going into the bathroom Chris noticed the wet towels. Rolling his eyes he thought `I don't want to know.'

Back in the bedroom Marc and Justin were laughing as they got into bed. "Marc your bad!"

"I know. but I can't help it. There is something about Chris. He is so gullible at times." calming down Marc said "Good Night."

Part 8 Road Trip!!

The next morning after Marc's run, he found everyone in the kitchen having breakfast. Grabbing a plate of food Marc sat down at the head of the table with Justin on his right and Chris on his left. "Morning Just, how did you sleep?"

"Like a log. How was your run?"

"It was good." Marc noticed Chris giving Justin and him funny little looks. Catching Justin's eye Marc let Justin know it would we wise to move.

Just as Chris took a big drink of his milk, Marc said. "Hope all the moaning didn't wake any one." With that statement Chris choked and blew milk out his nose.

Reaching over Marc gave Chris a pat on the back. "You all right Chris?"

"Yea, I'll be fine." <cough, cough>

"What moaning?" asked Lance.

"I woke up with severe leg cramps from last nights dancing. They were so bad I couldn't straiten my legs. If it wasn't for Justin's help, I never would have made it into the whirl pool."

"Is everything ok now?" asked Chris.

"Yea, I'm fine. Thanks for asking." said Marc with a smile.

"Is everyone packed?" Marc asked.

"Yea, were packed." answered Josh.

"While you get breakfast cleaned up, I'll grab a quick shower. Then we can load the van and get going."

After locking the house Marc approached the van to find the guys auguring over who was going to ride up front.

"Who was in the front seats when we met?" asked Marc.

"Justin and Joey." answered Lance.

"Ok, those two in the back seat." said Marc. Turning to Chris he handed him the maps "You have shot gun. You two in the middle. We'll rotate the seat at each leg."

The trip to the first destination took a little over two hours. The whole time everyone talked and listened to tapes. The guys got into singing along with the music as they drove. Chris noticed that at no time did Marc join in. "What's wrong Marc you don't know any of the lyrics?"

"It's not that Chris, but I don't_ sing. I'll leave that to you guys. Besides this way I get a preview of next weeks show." Marc said with a smile.

Pulling up to their first stop. "What's this?" asked Chris.

"Our first stop. House on the Rock."

"I've heard about it. It's some sort of museum." said Lance.

"It's more than a museum. It's hard to explain you just have to see it."

The guys entered the gate house and was met by a guide. "Hi Marc, glad to see you again."

"Hi, Millie. Is everything set?"

"Come on, in to the office and I'll get you set up."

Bypassing the ticket booth they all went into the managers office.

Millie and Marc talked off to the side for a minute then Millie left.

"Ok, here's the drill." said Marc as he handed each a visitor pass and small two way radio. "This place is huge. We'll go through the house together. Then after that you will spread out and walk through at your own pace." Marc than gave each a roll of quarters.

"What's the quarters for?" asked Joey.

"One of the best part of this place is the music boxes. Well music rooms actually. And the only way to see them in action you need quarters. The first roll is on me. You'll find change machines throughout the displays. We'll all meet up at the snack bar, it's about at the half way point of out tour. We can have lunch before we see the rest."

"How big is this place anyway?" asked Josh.

"It will take us four to five hours to go through. That's why the radios, if any one has any problems just give a call and let us know where your at so I can get to you quick."

"How much is this costing, Marc. We don't want you paying for any of this." said Lance.

Laughing Marc said. "This isn't costing me anything. Millie is a friend and she is taking the cost out in trade. Come on, lets get started."

"Ah Marc, what do you mean trade?" asked Josh.

"Oh, never mind about that." said Marc with a cheesy smile.

The first stop on the tour was the House of the Rock. Millie had arranged it so they had the place to themselves. Everyone was looking around when they heard Justin yell, "Wow!! Look at this!"

Justin had found the Infinity Room. Justin, Lance, Joey and Josh walked out into the all glass room. It gave the visitor the impression that the room went on for ever. It hung in space over the valley some 80 plus feet below.

Marc was smiling at their reaction when he spotted Chris standing back from the rooms entrance with a look of fear on his face. Remembering Chris's fear of heights Marc walked up beside him and put his arm around his shoulder. Forcing him to turn with him said. "Why don't we go check out some of the exhibits."

"Yea, thanks Marc."

The music rooms was a big hit. Justin and Lance were running around like kids feeding quarters into the machines. Of course they soon ran out of quarters. After getting a new supply at the change machines they were back in business. Marc and Chris just strolled along talking and watching the antic's of the others.

"You know, don't you, if we just keep this pace, we wont have to use any of our quarters." said Marc.

Chris smiled and agreed. "Those four can be such kids at times. You should try living with them when there like this."

"I am, right now." smiled Marc. "Chris, I've seen you guys have disagreements and have been amazed at how quickly it's forgotten. How do you handle big problems when they come up?"

"Well the big stuff is handled like the small stuff. Marc, you have to remember we've been together for some time. We're family, we're each others best friend. No matter what life throws at us, we know we can count on the support of each other."

Marc and Chris continued talking as they walked through the * exhibits. Managing to catch up with everyone at the snack bar area. * * * While waiting for Chris and Marc to catch up, Joey sat at a large table * deep in thought.

"What are you thinking about?" asked Josh.

"Ah, I was thinking about Marc. Has anyone noticed, he seems to be trying to spending some, one on one, time with each of us?"

"Yea." said Lance with a smile. "That's one of the things I like about him. He sees us as individuals, not as just part of NSYNC. I hope management ok's Marc coming on tour with us." Noticing the looks from his band mates he added. "I called Pete yesterday and asked if there was any way I could have Marc come with us on tour. I'm sorry I didn't say anything to you guys about this. I wanted to be sure first if it was possible for him to go, before I said anything and get our hopes up."

"Guys, I had the same idea too. I called Pete yesterday also." said Josh.

Grinning Joey added. "So did I."

Justin added, "When I called my mom, I told her about Marc and asked her to check with Pete about Marc coming along."

Laughing at the situation Justin said. "I wonder if Chris had the same idea?"

Just then Marc and Chris walked into the snack bar area.

"It's about time you two got here, where starving." said Justin.

Everyone went over to place their order and Lance pulled Chris aside. After a few minutes of conversation Chris and Lance turned to others grinning and seeing the glances of their band mates gave a little nod.

Lunch consisted of junk food and a lot of good conversation. Chris noticed Marc's friend Millie standing by a door trying to catch Marc's eye. "Marc, I think your friend is trying to get your attention."

Turning Marc gave Millie a wave. Marc got up to leave saying. "Duty calls, you guys head out the green door, it will take you to the organ house. There's a show starting in fifteen minutes. I'll catch up with you there." With that said Marc turned and walked over to Millie.

"Does anyone know what's going on?" asked Joey.

"Marc did say something about Millie taking out the entrance fee in trade." said Josh.

"No, he wouldn't, would he? I mean, him and her, doing it." said Justin with a sour face.

Laughing at Justin, Lance said. "Knowing Marc, I doubt it. Come on lets find this organ house."

Marc and Millie went to a work room in the organ house. "Everything is all set, your consume is over in the corner." said Millie.

"Thinks, I'll be ready in five. Are the guys in place?"

"Yea, John's in place to make the switch."

"Wow! Look at this place!" said Justin in awe.

"I says here, `This is the largest private collection of theater organs in the world.'" read Josh.

Looking around at the collection of organs on display, Lance was the first to notice the movement on the cat walks high above them. "Hay guys, look up."

High above the organs, two men, dressed as London Bobbies were searching the cat walks for something or someone. After searching the cat walk and getting everyone's attention they exited through a door. As the door closed one of the organs roared to life and like a Vincent Price movie, the organ console rose from the floor with a black clocked figure with a black fedora, playing J. S. Boch's Toccata and Fugue in D minor. This mysterious figure kept his back to his audience as he played. Stopping suddenly he slowly turned to revile his face to the audience.

As he turned to face the audience, the audience saw a man whose face was half covered by a gold mask.

"Cool, the Phantom of the Opera." said Chris.

The phantom looks over the audience and smiles. In a very British accent. "Welcome to my sanctum. Here I have collected the finest theater and church organs in the world."

From out side comes shouts and whistles. The phantom quickly turns and dashes to another organ, his black cape swirling behind him. Sitting down he begins to play selections of Andrew Lloyd Webber including songs from Cats and Phantom. Then more shouts and whistles. And the phantom was off again this time to the biggest organ in the collection. But to everyone's surprise the phantom started with the traditional sports arena CHARGE!! Followed by Moon River, the Macarena, then ending with NSYNC's Giddy Up.

"This is wild." laughed Lance.

"Hay, I think I know that one." said Justin.

"I sure hope so." laughed Josh. "That has, got to be Marc."

Now there was a commotion outside a door at the far end of the hall. In steps the two police officers. Spotting the phantom they shout and give chase.

The phantom leaps off the organ and run behind a large organ in the corner of the hall and climbs a latter to the cat walks above. As he reaches the top, the police is just starting their climb. Rushing to the center of the catwalk he grabs a long rope . As the police race toward the phantom he leaps off the catwalk and swings above the audiences heads coming to rest on a catwalk on the other side of the hall. The audience cheers as the phantom makes his escape through a door.

As everybody's attention is on the people on the catwalks above and the phantom makes his swing, Marc steps up between Lance and Joey. As everyone applauds, the phantoms escape. Marc says. "Wow, that's awesome."

Five heads snap to look at Marc not believing he is standing there. "Marc, how'd you, where'd you, how long have you been there?" asked a stunned Lance.

"Great show wasn't it?" said Marc as he turned and started to walk to the exit. Trying to hold back his laughter, Marc tried to make it out the door before he lost it. But never made it. Slumping against the wall he roared with laughter, pointing to the guys, "You You should see you faces." hahahahahaha "I wish I had a camera." as he slid to the floor.

It did not take much to get everyone else laughing and they too fell down with Marc in fits. The rest of the people made their way out the hall casting strange looks at the six laughing idiots.

It took a few minutes for everyone to calm themselves to the point they could speak. "Marc, the phantom was you right?" asked Joey.

Marc could only nod his head yes.

"How did you get standing behind us?"

Still with a little giggle. "When I went behind that big organ in the corner we made a switch. As John was climbing, I was running, throwing off the costume and coming up behind you, as John made the swing. I worked here last summer, we did this show on weekends."

"I take it, this was the trade, you were talking about earlier." said Lance.

"Yea, this was it." "Come on lets finish the tour."

Getting up, the six of them made their way through the next exhibit.

Lance got excited when they got the weapons exhibit, with its collection of ancient swards, and guns. And everyone was amazed at the Crown Jewel Collection. The tour finished up in the Transportation Building with its collection of cars. It was late afternoon when the returned to the van.

Josh took the front seat with Chris climbing into the back. "Where we going next?" asked Josh.

"Were heading for the Dells, we need to check into the bunk house before we get something to eat."

"Bunk House?" asked Lance.

Laughing at the reaction. "The Bunk House Motel. It has a western theme. The cabins are called Bunk Houses. They sleep eight in a large main room. It has a large shower room and bath. Oh yea, there's eight beds."

"Finally, a bed to my self." said Justin.

Marc looked at Justin through the rear view mirror. "Justin, I'll remember that statement next time you climb into my bed."

Not knowing if Marc was hurt or not, by his statement Justin said with a lowered head. "I didn't mean that way, I'm sorry Marc."

"You'll see how the bear likes you snoring." said Marc with a little laugh.

Marc pulled up to the motel office and got out to register. At the registration desk a perky receptionist named Amy greeted Marc. "Good afternoon sir, how may I help you?"

"Good afternoon Amy, my name is Marc Newman, I have a reservation."

"Yes, Mr. Marc Newman, group of six, two nights, right?

"That's right."

"Will you please fill out this registration card. And how would you like to pay?"

As Marc filled out the card he said, "I'll put it on my master card."

"Well we have a choice of cabins is there a location you would prefer?"

"If at all possible do you have something near the back, where it's quiet."

"I have cabin 24 open, it's clear in the back, but it's quite remote."

"That will do. The quieter the better." said Marc.

Amy, was eyeing the van trying to see who else was in it. "Are you and your friends here to take in the sites."

"No, were here for the youth mission conference. We will be taking the last of our orientation before we leave for Africa."

"How long do you plan to be in Africa?"

"We'll be there for one year, to help finish building the school. Then we will remain for the next five years as teachers."

"Six years, that's a long time to be away from home."

"Not when your doing Gods work. We have been preparing for this all of our lives."

"Here's your key, your cabin is all the way down than take a left. It's kind of hidden by the big pine trees. I'm sure your group will find it very peaceful."

"Thank you Amy, I'm sure it is just what we need." said Marc smiling.

Returning to the van with a big grin on his face Marc drove back to their cabin.

"Ok Marc, out with it. You've been grinning like the Chester Cat since you came out of the office. What did you do?" asked Lance.

"Oh nothing, the receptionist was getting nosy, so I told her we were a group of missionaries here for a conference, before we go to Africa to do Gods work. She seemed to loose all interest in me or my friends."

"That's not very nice Marc." said Joey.

"Well since she had your faces plastered on her chest I thought it wise to get her attention off us."

Pulling up to the cabin the guys quickly unloaded the van. Entering the main room they found an large open area with eight beds lining the walls.

Laughing, Chris said, "It reminds me of summer camp."

After checking out the bath, Joey said. "Yea, just like summer camp. Right down to the shower room."

Looking into the shower room they found a large tiled room with six shower heads.

"Oh great, group showers." wined Chris.

"Don't worry Chris, I promise not to look. I know. We can leave off the light. That way no one will have to see Chris naked." said Justin.

"Oh, that could be interesting. Six naked guys groping around in a dark shower." said Marc with a big smile. Giving Lance a little shove with his hip. "Oh, sorry about that Lance. How about washing my back for me buddy." he smiled at Lance with bobbing eye brows.

Lance turned three shades of red as everybody broke up laughing.

Pulling Lance into a head lock Marc said. "Come on lobster boy, let's go get something to eat."

"Yea, food!" shouted Josh. As everyone turned to leave.

Marc released Lance from the head hold and leaned in to whisper in his ear. "Lance, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to embarrass you. At times my mouth gets ahead of my brain."

Seeing Marc's sad eyes Lance pull him into a hug and whispered. "Marc, it's no problem. And don't ever change. Besides, brothers don't get mad. They get even." Breaking the hug, Lance smiled at Marc.

Marc had a confused look on his face which quickly turned into a big grin, at what Lance had just said.

Part 9 Road Trip!!

After grabbing their bags from the van everybody claimed a bed. Marc chose one back in the corner. To his surprise Lance took the bunk next to his.

"Well, what do you guys want for supper?" asked Marc.

"Pizza!!!!" everyone shouted.

"Ok, Justin, will you place the order and have them delivered to the motel office. Be sure to use my name." said Marc.

"Hi, I'd like to place a order to be delivered. Yes. The Bunk House Motel. Cabin 24. We'd like one large cheese with extra cheese. One large veggie. And two large with everything. Hold on, I'll ask."

"Does anyone want anchovies?"

Marc's, Chris', and Joey's hands went up.

Back on the phone. "One with, one without. Do you have soda? Great, two liters. Give us two coke and two root beer."

"Just, how long and how much?" shouted Marc.

"Ok, how long and how much? Thirty minutes. Thirty four ninety five, got that. We'll meet the driver at the office. Thank you. Bye."

"Food will be here in 30." said Justin.

"Ok, I'll go in 20 just in case they're early." said Marc.

"I'll go with you." said Joey.

"No, I'll take the van to the office. We don't want eagle-eyed Amy to spot any of you."

"Yea, you're right." said Joey. Then he handed Marc a fifty dollar bill. "I can at least pay for supper."

Marc was back in no time with the pizza. Chris went out to help him carry in the food. Marc had picked up a bag of ice, plastic cups, and napkins at the office. Within twenty minutes everything was gone. Everybody just sat back letting their meal digest when it started. First Chris let out a belch. Followed by Josh. Than Justin let out a belch that lasted forever. Everybody got the giggles which turned in to laughter. The laughing increased when someone farted. Which made everyone laugh harder, than a second fart came from some place.

"Stop it." laughed Marc. "The belching contest was bad enough, let's not get into a farting contest." Just than someone cut another one and Marc made a dash for the door and fresh air.

Sitting on the stoop, Marc slowly got control of his laughter. Wiping his tears from his face, Marc finally got himself under control. A minute later Lance came out gasping for breath.

"Shit, I had to get out of there. I hope nobody lights a match or the whole place will go up." said Lance as he sat next to Marc. "I know Joey was one of the gas passers."

"How do you know?"

"Well there was a really big fart and Joey went running to the bathroom." hee... I think he messed his pants."

Marc just smiled and shook his head.

"What have we got on tap for tonight?" asked Lance.

"The Native American Ceremonial, over at the fair grounds. It's actually a gathering of all the tribes in the US and Canada. There will be a lot of crafts and displays set up and, of course, dancing."

"When do we leave?"

"As soon as Joey can get his underwear changed." Marc laughed.

After arriving at the fair grounds and parking everyone got out. "Ah, guys. May I point something out to you. It's getting dark. Lose the sunglasses. You look stupid."

"But it's part of our disguise." said Justin.

"Yea, let's not call attention to ourselves by wearing dark glasses at night. Look around. How many people do you see in sun glasses?"

"See what you mean. We'll lose the glasses." said Justin.

"If we split up everything should be ok. How about everyone using a different name to throw any possible fans off."

"We haven't tried that one yet." said Josh.

"Ok Marc, you give us new names." said Chris.

"All right. Lets see. Chris you look like a David. Josh you look like Burt. Lance you look like a Tad. Justin you look like a Ben. And Joey you look like a Billy Bob." Marc said with a snicker.

"And what name are you going to have." asked Billy Bob.

"I'm not famous, so I don't need a name." said Marc.

The others didn't agree and just stood there looking at Marc.

"Ok, I'll take a name too. I'll be Jimmie, ok?"

"That will do." said Dave.

"Meet back here after the fireworks." "Come on Billy Bob, lets look around." said Jimmie.

Everyone had a good time and no one was recognized, although two girls were eyeing Joey trying to decide if he was who they thought he was. Marc overheard their comments and squished their hopes when he called. "Billie! Do you think Dave would like one of these?"

"I don't know, it's the wrong color." Joey said picking up on what Marc was doing.

The Ceremonial was fantastic and from time to time Marc would spot the others in the crowd. As the fireworks was winding down Marc and Joey made their way back to the van. Unlocking the van they got in to wait for the others to arrive.

Marc sat in the front seat, looking over at Joey. He got a big grin on his face remembering what had happened after supper.

Joey looked over to see Marc grinning at him. "What?"

Marc didn't say anything but started to giggle. Than he added a few grunts to his giggling.

Joey's eyes went wide and he started to blush. "How did you find out?"

Marc's giggles turned to laughter. Which got Joey giggling, making Marc laugh harder, causing Joey to go into fits of laughter.

The others arrived to find Marc and Joey laughing so hard they had tears running down their faces.

"What's so funny?" Josh asked.

"Ah, nothing really. You kind of had to be there to understand." giggled Marc.

Upon returning to the motel, everyone was tired and the beds were inviting. Everybody got undressed and headed for the shower.

Jokingly, Joey asked "Chris do you want the lights on or off?"

"Leave them on, like you'll see something you haven't seen before." said Chris. Looking over at a grinning Marc. Chris just blushed.

Everybody laughed at Chris and went and took their shower. After drying off and dressing Marc walked up behind Chris and whispered "Now we have seen everything."

Marc was up as usual before everyone. He went for a walk enjoying the early morning. Passing a bakery he was drawn in by the smell of fresh baked sweet rolls. He bought six of the biggest, gooiest, nuttiest, cinnamon rolls. On his way back to the motel he stopped at the mini mart for a gallon of O J.

Upon entering the bunk house he found everyone still asleep. Putting breakfast on the table Marc went to the center of the room and shouted in the most shrilled, girlie voice. "OH _ MY _ GOD!!!! IT'S _ IT'S _ THEM!!!! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. IT'S NSYNC Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"

All five of the guys sat straight up in their beds wide awake while looking around for the screaming fans. But all they found was Marc standing there with the biggest shit eating grin on his face. He immediately was hit in the head by four pillows.

Laughing Marc asked. "Is everybody awake?"

"Shit Marc. You almost gave me a heart attack." said Chris.

"Sorry Chris, I forgot about your delicate condition, old man." everybody laughed except Justin. He was just sitting in his bed with a horrified look on his face.

Marc rushed over to Justin and sat on the bed facing him. Justin was breathing hard and staring straight ahead. Marc put his hands on his shoulders to try to turn him but found him rigid.

"Marc. What's wrong with Justin?" asked Lance.

"He's having a panic attack." said Marc.

Leaning into Justin's field of vision he softly said. "Well good morning Justin. How did you sleep? Justin. Oh Justin. Time to wake up."

Justin's gaze shifted to Marc dark eyes. Seeing him for the first time.

Marc smiled, "Good morning, Curly. Are you all right?"

Justin grabbed Marc into a tight hug and started to cry. Marc wrapped his arms around Justin, holding him tight and started to cry as he said. "I'm so sorry. I never meant to scare you. I wasn't thinking. Please forgive me."

"What happened? I couldn't move. I couldn't get my breath. I was going to be attacked by fans. They were going to hurt me, and I couldn't move." sobbed Justin.

Sniffling, Marc said. "You had a panic attack. When you heard my girl fan impersonation you freaked and just froze. I didn't know this would happen."

Justin and Marc relaxed their hug but did not break their hold. Drawing strength from each other Justin finally said. "Next time you want to wake me, please try something else."

"Ok. I promise." Marc replied as they broke their hug. "How about a little breakfast?"

Looking over at the concerned faces of their friends, they both just smiled at them.

"Come on guys, I found a bakery that makes the best looking and smelling cinnamon rolls so I picked us up some for breakfast."

"That's not much of a breakfast." said Chris.

"I know. But remember, we are going to hit the water park first thing this morning. We can eat after the park."

"Won't it look strange us being the only ones in the park? It may draw some attention."

"Chris, the park we are going to has a large mini golf course, and go cart tracks in front of the water park. No one will be able to see what's going on from the front entrance."

"Cool! Lets get moving." said Chris

Marc drove around back to the employee parking lot and was met by Dave, a school mate of Marc's.

"Hay Marc."

"Hay Dave how you been?" said Marc shaking Dave's hand.

"Are these your top secret friends?"

"Yea Dave. These are my friends Justin, Josh, Chris, Joey, and Lance. Guys, this is Dave, a class mate of mine and water park manager this summer."

After exchanging hand shakes Dave said, "The maintenance crew left about fifteen minutes ago, so the park is yours. For safety's sake there are two life guards on duty. They have been sworn to secrecy, and bribed with a three day weekend off."

"Thanks." said Josh. "What do we owe you?"

"Marc's helped me pass some tough classes, so the only thing the life guards and I want are autographs and," he said, while pulling out a camera, "our pictures taken with you all. So we can prove to our girl friends you really were here."

Laughing the guys said, "Deal."

Everybody had a blast at the park with its four water slides and wave pool. But time quickly ran out and they had to leave before the staff started to show up.

Marc pulled into a small parking lot just one block off the main business area. After pulling into a shady spot with tall hedges on two sides they all got out and paired up. Marc reached into his pocket and pulled out two keys and tossed one to Josh and the other to Joey. "I had copies of the van key made, that way you can drop off any shopping and not have to carry it around all day. You guys got your cells?"

"Yea." they said.

"Ok, if there's any trouble use them. We need to meet back here at four, have fun."

Lance and Marc headed down the street, straight to the duck rides. After buying their tickets they were lucky to get on the next duck leaving for its tour. They enjoyed the ride and noticed Josh and Justin on another duck as they passed each other in the woods. "Josh likes to look good in his designer sun glasses." said Marc.

"Yea, he must have thirty pair. He's always shopping for shades."

"Remind me to pick up some cheep sunglasses for him. He's looking too good. And he's attracting too many stares from girls around him."

"That may explain why sometimes our disguises don't work."

Looking at Lance, "You know, you're not much better. We've got to figure a way to uncute you."

"You think I'm cute? I always thought I was the sexy one."

Laughing. "Cute, I can work on. Even with a bag over your head, your sexy voice would give you away."

Lance responded with a big grin on his face but not looking at Marc, "You think my voice is sexy?"

As the blush rose, Marc hesitated, then answered. "Yea, very sexy."

Nothing more was said for the rest of the ride. Marc really didn't remember much about the rest of the ride.

'Why did I say that? True, Lance is good looking. And that voice of his drives me to distraction. But why did I say he was sexy? Oh god. What must he be thinking. Shit Marc, that was stupid. You don't want to loose Lance as a friend.' looking at Lance all Marc saw was a big grin. 'He doesn't look like he's mad. But I've got to be careful. I don't want to screw this up.'

"Marc, are you coming? Marc, earth to Marc."

"Tad, who's Marc?"

Giggling "Ok, Jimmy are you coming?"

"Not yet. But give me time." Marc said smiling at Lance.

Lance turned red and they both started laughing.

After hitting a few shops Lance spotted the wax museum and wanted to go through it.

"You go ahead, I've seen it before. There's a shop down the street I want to check out."

"I'll go with you."

"No, I need to go there by my self."

"Why? Don't you want to be around me any more?" Lance pouted.

"How can I shop for you, if you're with me? Now take that cute butt of yours into the museum and let me shop."

Grinning Lance said. "Now I have a cute butt?"

"Go! Before I have to kick it. I'll meet you at the bench by the tree." laughed Marc as he turned and walked away. 'He is going to drive me nuts!'

Entering the shirt shop Marc started to look through the designs until he found the perfect one. He went to the counter

"Hi, can I help you?'

"Yes, I need six shirts made. Do you have light blue?"

"Yes, what sizes?"

"Four large and two extra large."

"I have them what would you like on them?"

Marc gave the clerk all the information and paid for the shirts.

He went next door to the book shop to look around while waiting the half hour it was going to take to complete his order.

After exiting the shirt shop he saw Lance had not come out of the museum yet, so he stopped at a pretzel stand.

Lance came out and spotted Marc coming down the street with a large bag hanging from his arm, a large soda in one hand, and a soft pretzel in the other.

"What you buy me?"

"You'll find out later."

Spotting two pretzels "Did you get one for me?"

"Yea." Marc said while handing Lance a pretzel.

"What about my drink?"

"We can share." and handed Lance the drink. Lance eyed the drink. "It's root beer."

"Cool." and took a big drink.

They sat under the tree and ate their snack and spotted Chris and Joey coming toward them.

"Hay, David, Billie what's up?" said Marc.

"Glad we found you. We found a laser tag arcade and wondered if you want to come and play?"

"Tad, do you want to go play with the boys?"

Lance just grinned and nodded his head yes.

"Let us drop these packages in the van. Then we can go play."

Everybody found the arcade and the six of them got their gear on.

"Are we playing teams or individual?" asked Justin.

"Individual" Marc quickly said.

Josh set the countdown timer for sixty seconds and pushed the start button.

Marc gave Lance a pat on his bottom and said with a grin "Good hunting." as everyone entered the maze and hurried to take up their position.

The game went along at a good clip with Josh being taken out by Chris within the first three minutes. Joey and Justin had each other pinned down giving Lance a chance to sneak up on Joey taking him out with a shot to the head. Seeing Joey stomping back to the entrance, he turned and got hit by Chris square in the chest. But Chris's victory was short lived when Marc slid from around a corner on his back and nailed Chris. Now it was down to Lance and Marc.

Through the observation window the victims watched their friends battle it out.

"Where is Marc?" asked Chris.

"Coming up behind Lance. On the right." said Joey.

Lance had his back to Marc when he took a couple shots and turned and moved off in another direction.

"What's going on? That's the fourth clear shot Marc's had and he missed." said Chris.

Lance heard movement behind him and turned in pursuit of the noise. Lance finally nailed Marc five minutes later.

Turning in their gear Josh noticed something on Lance's rear. "Tad what do you have stuck to your rear?"

Lance reached around and peeled off a five inch target spot. Looking at the target he saw fourteen hit marks then started to laugh.

"So that's what Marc was up to." said Joey.

Lance walked over to Marc holding the target. "So this is what the pat on the butt was about. Attaching your target."

Giggling Marc said. "It's such a cute target, I couldn't resist."

Everybody broke up at Marc's response.

Changing the subject, Marc said. "It's getting late, let's head back to the van."

Part 10 Road Trip!!!

Dinner that night was at a German Restaurant. The dining room consisted of five tables that sat forty each. The staff, dressed in folk costume, served a family style meal of German dishes. The seating arrangement made conversation with your neighbor a must. After the food was served, the staff took to the stage performing folk dances and songs. During the intermission the performers cleared the tables of dishes and served desert. While the diners had their desert and coffee the staff returned to the stage and did excerpts from Sound of Music which received a standing ovation from the audience.

It was almost nine when they returned to the motel. After unloading the day's purchases they went into their cabin. Marc put his packages on his bunk and then went into the bathroom. As Marc came out he found most of the guys at the big table showing what they had found on their day of shopping. Noticing Lance glancing at the bag on his bunk Marc decided to let Lance stew a while longer.

"What did you guys buy today?" asked Marc.

"I found a great pair of b-ball shoes." said Justin.

"I found a comic book shop and they had one I didn't have." said Joey.

"I got a new CD." said Chris.

Josh just sat there, not really willing to share.

"Josh did you get anything today?" asked Marc.

"Yea, I kind of bought Sara something."

"Oh, how sweet. What did you get her?"

"A beanie bear." he said holding up a red bear.

"She'll love it. I thought the Josh bear was retired."

"It is. I went to four stores before I found it." "Lance did you buy anything?"

"No. I didn't see anything today." he said, a little distracted.

"Lance what's with you? You seem edgy." asked Justin.

Lance looked over to Marc with a 'I've been good, please don't make me wait any longer' look. Marc just laughed and finally said. "Ok Lance, bring the bag over here."

Lance quickly got up and grabbed the bag off Marc's bunk. Handing it to Marc he sat down to questioning looks from his band mates. "Marc bought me something today and he said I couldn't have it until we got back here." Everybody just giggled at Lance's enthusiasm.

Wanting to prolong Lance's torture a little longer, Marc said. "I think this can wait until the morning."

"Marc, pleaseeeeeeee, I've been good all day."

"All right. You must be a riot at Christmas."

"He is." said Justin. "I caught him going through the closets in my room looking for his present."

Laughing, Marc opened the bag and reached in pulling out the Tad shirt and held it up so everybody could see the back. On the back was six polar bears lounging in what looked like a hole in the ice. Across the top Marc had written 'Big Bear Lake' and under the picture 'Polar Bar Club.' As every body started to laugh, he turned it around to show Chilly Willie on the left side with the name Tad. Tossing the shirt to Lance he reached in and passed out the shirts to all his friends.

"Ha ha, cool Marc." said Justin.

"I like it." said Chris.

"I thought you might Chris, being the oldest you seemed to have had a problem remembering our new names. This should help. That is, until your eye sight goes." giggled Marc.

"Hey! I'm not that old."

"Compared to me, you're ancient."

"Just remember, little smart ass boys can be sent to bed without their cookies and milk."

"Yes Daddy."

"What else did you buy?" asked Lance, eyeing the not empty bag.

Reaching in to the bag Marc pulled out five pairs of sunglasses just like the ones he wore. Handing a pair to each he was met with questioning looks. "Today I noticed Josh looking mighty fine in his designer shades."

"I always look fine." smirked Josh.

"That's the problem, if you're trying not to be noticed, why call attention to yourself by looking so good."

"You're right, we never thought of it like that." said Justin.

"Yea, I can see your point." said Joey, deep in thought. "What else have you noticed."

"Ok, let me see... I know. Everybody show me your charge cards."

The guy's got out their wallets and produced their charge card. Marc looked down at the table and roared with laughter. "I take it these were issued by your management company?"

"Yea. Why?" they replied.

"Well for one thing it has the picture of the group N SYNC on it. Then they put your name on it. Even a ditsy cashier can put the picture on the card, the name, and the person standing in front of them together. It's a no brainier and your cover is blown. Wouldn't it be smarter to have a plain corporate card with a false identity? They should be able to provide you with ID to match."

"You're right. We never looked at it like that." said Josh. "What else?"

"Well, Chris does a good job of not being noticed. With his hair out of those braids and when he puts on his glasses he looks like just anyone else. Josh, you just need to stop trying to be so stylish. Look good when you want to get the attention of the ladies. But when you don't want to be recognized, dress down."

Josh shook his head, understanding where Marc was coming from.

"Justin, being the youngest, you've always been the center of attention in the group. And now that you're older you seem to crave the attention. When you do TV interviews, you always do something to draw attention to yourself. I've seen you wear strange hats. When everyone was dressed muted colors, you were in white or yellow. Or I have seen you wear a sports jersey when everyone else wore regular shirts."

Justin sat there with his head down listening to Marc's comments.

"Justin, I don't want to be mean. Or hurt your feelings. All I'm trying to say is just be yourself. You're a great guy and friend. I've gotten to know you this week and the Justin I know is not the Justin in the interviews."

"As far as not being noticed. I don't know of any way to uncute you. Maybe if you grow a mustache or beard. But you'll have to go through puberty first." Marc said with a grin. Justin looked up at Marc and started to laugh.

"Lance, what can I say about you?"

"Be nice. I'm the other cute one."

"Oh yeah, cute and sexy. I forgot." smiling at him. "In the interviews you're also the shy one. I don't know if it's because you're shy or just can't get a word in. This week I found you're very smart, easy to talk to, express yourself well, and at times you are a leader. As far as not drawing attention, let your hair lay down. Cover those green eyes of yours with glasses and don't talk. Your voice gives you away every time. I know, you can buy your underwear three sizes too small. Maybe you can raise your voice an octave or two." Everyone was laughing at the last statement, including Lance, thank god.

"Joey. Joey. Believe it or not, the only problem is your head."

"Yeah, there's nothing in it." piped Chris.

"No. There's definitely something in there. I was amazed myself. I figured any one who would color their head or hair that color must have some really big emotional problems. But after getting to know him, I've come to the conclusion that he is just color blind. Put a hat on him and he blends in anywhere."

"And as a group do you know what your biggest problem is?"

"No, what?" they asked seriously.

"You take advice from a three year old."

"Marc, you seem to know us better than we know ourselves. I'd rather take your advice than listen to the crap our management feeds us. You have nothing to gain by being frank with us. And you stick you neck out knowing if we take it the wrong way you could lose our friendship." said Josh.

"But that can never happen Marc. You're more than our friend. You're part of our family now. We may not like what you say, but we respect your view point." said Chris.

"We also understand that you would never say something out of meanness, but out of love. That's what family members do." said Justin.

"And being part of this family means that we can't stay mad at you. We may beat the crap out of you, but we won't stay mad." said Joey with a grin.

Seeing Marc's reaction to the comments, Lance got up, went around to Marc and pulled him up out of his seat. Lifting Marc's chin up to look him in the eye, he said. "And as our brother we share a lot of these." Stepping in and wrapping his arms around Marc in a firm hug, Lance whispered "Welcome to the family."

Justin shouted "GROUP HUG!"

Marc found himself in the mist of his five loving brothers and he let out a soft sob because he was so happy.

The guys remained in the hug not wanting to break until Marc regained his composure. They held onto him and gave him the strength of their love.

Marc laid his head on Lances shoulder, drinking in his smell and warmth. Slowly Marc's breathing slowed as he calmed down. Lance giggled and whispered "Marc, are you falling asleep?"

Marc nuzzled Lance's neck saying. "Yep. Feels so good. This I could get use to."

"I think we need to get you to bed."

"Won't work. The bed is not big enough for all of us."

That comment broke the hug as everyone got the giggles which left Marc with his arms wrapped around Lance. "Come on Marc, bed time."

Sticking his lower lip out, in a pout, he released Lance. "Party Pooper," said Marc softly, as he slowly walked to his bunk.

"It seems baby brother gets cranky when we keep him up past his bed time." giggled Joey.

Marc undressed as he walked to his bunk, sat down, stuck his tongue out at * Joey and then laid down and went to sleep. * *

Marc awoke, refreshed, and in a great mood. Grabbing his running shorts and shoes out of his bag, he went to change. Taking his ID he placed it in a wrist band wallet and jotted a quick note as to where he was going. Marc went outside to begin his warm up.

The sun was up when everybody started to wake. The usual procession to and from the bathroom was well under way when Josh spotted Marc's note. "Marc's out running again. Said he should be back by eight."

"What do you want to do about breakfast?" asked Joey.

"I could go for some more of those cinnamon rolls." said Lance.

"Does anyone know where he got them?" asked Josh.

"Yeah, I spotted the bakery yesterday, it's just a couple blocks from here." said Chris. "I'll go pick some up as soon as I get dressed."

      • Just after eight Marc came running back to the motel. Giving Amy a quick wave and smile as he passed the office, he slowed to a walk. Approaching their cabin Marc found Josh sitting on the front stoop. "Morning Josh, everybody up?"

"Yea, Justin's in the shower now. How was your run?"

"It was great, and the sunrise was spectacular. You should join me some morning."

Entering the cabin as Justin came out of the shower room as Marc walked over to his bag to get a change of clothes. Noticing that all conversation had stopped, Marc turned to find everyone looking at him. "What? Have I grown a second head?"

"Marc. You went running around town dressed like that?" asked Lance.

"Yeah, why?"

"You almost have nothing on. I'm surprised you didn't get arrested."

Smiling at Lance's comment, Marc replied, "Yeah, I did get quite a few stares this morning. Amy fell off her stool as I went by the office a little while ago."

Smiling, Marc went in to take his shower.

As Marc walked out fully dressed Lance asked him, "What time do we have to check out?"

"We have to be out of here by ten. What are we doing for breakfast?"

"Chris picked up more of those cinnamon rolls. They're in the box." said Lance.

Picking up all his things, Marc packed his bag. After grabbing the CD he bought yesterday he went to the table for a cinnamon roll.

"What do you have there Marc?" asked Justin.

"A CD I picked up yesterday."

"You already own that one."

"It's not for me, it's for Amy. I thought you guys could sign it and we could drop it off when we check out."

Smiling, Lance said, "Ah, your conscience has caught up with you after telling her all those lies."

"Yeah, I do feel bad about the story I told her. Come on, sign it and let's get moving. We have a circus to get to."

After loading the van they drove to the office and parked. "Well, how do you want to do this?" asked Marc.

"Why don't you go in and give Amy the CD. Ask her to come out to meet us. That way we won't cause a scene in the lobby." said Josh.

Marc entered the office and was relived to find it empty. "Good morning Amy."

"Morning Mr. Newman. I have your final bill right here. Just sign by the X please."

Marc signed the paper and handed it back to Amy with the CD on top.

"What's this?"

"A gift. You do like N SYNC don't you?"

"Yea, but I already have this one."

"I doubt you have one like this. Turn it over."

Turning the album over her eyes went wide. "Is this a joke?"

Laughing, Marc answered, "No, this is not a joke. Would you like to meet them?"

"You mean they're here?"

"Yeah, they're out in the van. But I need a promise from you. No screaming; don't freak out on them. They are nice people who just happen to be famous."

"Ok, I agree."

"And you can't tell anyone about them being here until we've been gone one hour."

"Sure, no problem."

Marc lead Amy outside to the side of the van where she found the guys of N SYNC waiting for them.

Marc just stood back and watched his friends do their celebrity thing. He was amazed at how easily the whole thing went. In no time the van was loaded with its passengers and they were off to Circus World.

They arrived at the Circus World grounds in Baraboo, Wisconsin after a short drive from the Dells. The group took their time going thru the exhibits. They enjoyed seeing all the old circus wagons that had been restored and watching the workers working on a wagon under restoration.

"Have you seen where Marc went?" asked Joey.

"He was here a minute ago." said Chris.

"He keeps doing that, going off to set things up again. He has put a lot into these past few days." said Lance.

"I wish we could do something for him for a change." said Justin.

"If management lets him come along maybe we can all set up a day just for Marc." said Josh.

"That's a cool idea." said Justin.

"Here he comes." warned Joey.

"Are you guys ready to go to work?" asked Marc.

"We're not here to work. We're here to have fun." said Joey.

"I think you'll have fun with this. Come on." said Marc leading the way

Approaching a lady dressed in a very colorful outfit, Marc said, "Madam Shasha, these are your volunteers."

"Fine, Marc tells me some of you are interested in being clowns, now who would that be?"

Three hands went up Justin, Chris, and Joey.

"Great, Mike here will take you over to clown alley." "And who is our equestrian?"

"That will be me." said Josh with a big smile.

"Brian here will get you set up. Your going to become a trick rider."

"I've never done any trick riding." said Josh, a little concerned.

"It will be safe, you'll be in a safety harness at all times."

"Cool."

"And now, my green eyed cutie what would you like to be?"

Blushing, Lance said in his low voice. "I don't know."

"Ah, with that voice I have just the right job for you. How would you like to be Ring Master?"

Lance got a big grin on his face and asked. "Do I get to wear the red suit and top hat?"

"You sure do."

"Marc, are you going to be in the show too?" asked Lance.

"Yeah, I'll be in the show."

"What will you be doing?"

Looking up Marc said, "High wire."

The next three hours found the three clowns working on routines, learning about makeup and picking out their costumes. Josh was working on his running mount and kept overshooting his mount. Unfortunately Marc saw him from the high wire and shouted down. "HEY PETER PAN. AREN'T YOU SUPPOSE TO LAND ON THE HORSE?"

The show started at 3 and everyone was ready. Lance took his place at the microphone and welcomed everyone of all ages to the greatest show on earth. The clowns' jobs were to fill the time between the acts and spend time with the kids in the audience. When it came time for Josh to perform it went well. He made his first three mounts without any trouble. But on his fourth mount his safety team decided to have some fun. They pulled him up short and Josh found himself grabbing on to the horse's tail and being pulled around the ring behind the horse while still in mid air. After a good laugh by all Josh made his final mount.

The last to perform was Marc. He entered as part of the high wire group. Taking the balance pole Marc steeped on to the wire and slowly crossed to the other platform. After the others did a five man pyramid Marc started to make his final crossing.

Chris leaned over to Joey. "Joe, isn't Marc suppose to have a safety harness?"

"I noticed that too. Do you think he has done this before?"

Marc slowly stepped to the center of the wire than stopped and slowly lifted his right foot off the wire, doing a one leg stand. After the applause died down, Marc resumed his walk across the wire. About five feet from the platform he stopped than walked backwards across the wire to the platform where he started.

The show ended with the Grand Parade, with Lance riding atop a elephant at the front of the parade. Needless to say, everyone had a great time.

It was almost six by the time everyone got cleaned up and they returned to the van.

"Marc, this has got to be the best day we have ever had. Thank you so much." said a bubbling Justin as he gave Marc a hug.

"Yeah, today was awesome and so was your high wire act." said Josh.

"Thanks, I'm glad you all had a good time. What do you want to eat?"

"Mickey D's!!!" everyone said.

"I should of known. Let's go." said Marc.

Going through the drive thru Marc was able to get the order without anyone spotting the guys. He drove to a secluded part of the lot and parked to eat. Marc got out and dumped the trash but instead of coming back to the driver's seat he went to the back side door and opened it. "Josh, do you think you could find your way home from here?"

"Yeah, this road is a straight shot home. Why?"

"I'm tired and it will be safer if someone else drives."

Josh took the front seat with Justin as Marc climbed in back with Joey.

The ride home was quiet with everyone just listening to tapes and talking quietly. Marc dozed off and kept falling over on Joey but would wake up each time. Joey turned sideways and pulled Marc back to him letting Marc rest his head on his chest and wrapped his arms around Marc to keep him from falling over. In no time Marc's breathing slowed and he fell into a deep sleep.

Hearing light snoring behind him, Chris turned and smiled at the sight of Joey holding Marc and the two of them sleeping. He nudged Lance to look behind. Lance smiled at his two sleeping friends and whispered "Now that is quite a sight."

Pulling up to the cabin, Lance woke the sleeping pair and everyone dragged themselves inside. Marc spotted a note on the kitchen table. After picking it up and reading it, he let out a little groan.

"What's up Marc?" asked Josh.

It seems we spend your last day here at the lake. Dad and Sara are coming over for a cookout."

"That's ok with us, why the groan?"

"I forgot, I got twelve cub scouts coming for a cookout and swimming. Sara's note was to remind me."

"How old are they?" asked Justin.

"They're all twelve, I think."

"Cool, they should be fun." said Justin.

"Yeah, that will give you someone to play with." said Chris.

Everybody was tired so the parade to and from the bathroom began. Marc was the last one to get changed. Going to his room he found a very red headed Joey curled up in his bed.

"Hi Joe. I wasn't expecting to see you tonight."

"Justin fell a sleep in my spot talking to Josh. So I'm taking his spot."

"Cool" said Marc as he got into bed and turned off the light. Turning on his side he looked at Joe.

"Marc, why are you looking at me?"

"I just wanted to see if your head glowed in the dark."

Hitting Marc in the arm, Joe replied "Very funny."

"Good night, Joe."

"Night, Marc.

Coming up. Marc's Farewell

Authors Note: Some of the sites visited in Road Trip do exists. House on the Rock is one of Wisconsin's best known tourist attractions. The organ house does exist but the show came from my imagination. The duck ride is a must for anyone visiting the Wisconsin Dells. And Circus World is a must for anyone vacationing in the Dell area. But being able to take part in the show, again comes from my imagination. No way am I a paid agent for the state of Wisconsin or the Department of Tourism. And before I get a hundred e-mails. I know there is no such thing as a Josh Bear Beanie. But there should be.
