Infinite Love

This ia a story that spans the generations.  Lance finds love and romance with   someone he feels he has known all his life.

Lance, Mikey, & a

Angel named Ethan

This is my newest short story I posted just before Christmas.  Lance has returned home after not being able to complete his life long dream, going into space.  He feels his life has no meaning and he struggles to regain his self worth.  He finds what he is looking for in the form of an abused little boy and his friend Ethan

Last Time:

The call of a full bladder brought Marc awake.  Slipping out from under Lance he made his way to the bathroom.  Even though not fully awake, Marc managed to get pointed into the right direction before letting lose a powerful stream of piss.

Marc sighed as the pressure subsided.  A smile spread across his face as he remembered his dream.

Returning to the bedroom Marc looked down on his love.  Sitting next to Lance he ran the back of his hand down the side of his loves face.

Lance awakened from his sleep with Marc’s soft caress.  Stretching Lance softly said, “Morning.”

“Morning,” Marc chuckled.

“What time is it?”

“Almost seven-thirty.”

“Seven-thirty!  Come back to bed.”

“How about you getting out of bed.”

“Why?  We don’t have anything planned.”

“It’s Sunday.  And we are not on tour,” Marc pointed out.  “How about we get dressed and go to church?”

Lance studied Marc closely.  “You want to go to church?”

Marc nodded.  “I think it’s time I got reacquainted with the big guy.”

Chapter 63

Marc was sitting quietly with Lance in the last row of the church when a small form sat down next to him.  Glancing to his left a smile spread across his face when he saw Jon grinning up at him.  Looking down the row he saw Lynn and Paul then Steph and Justin all smiling at him.

Lance looked pass Marc to see what had gotten his attention and noticed his friends.  Greetings were quietly exchanged just before the service started.

“Marc, are you going to be coming to Sunday school, too?”  Jon asked.

“No, Jon.”

Jon was disappointed, and it showed.

“What do you two have planned for today?”  Justin asked.

Lance looked at Marc for guidance.  “Spend the day settling in.  I need to get as much of the things I brought from Wisconsin put away as possible.  Not to mention the pile of stuff we had shipped home while on tour.”

Lance looked at Marc with pride when he said stuff we had shipped home.  Marc was thinking as their place as home and that made him happy.

“Could you use an extra pair of hands?”  Justin offered.

“Sure, bro.”

Justin looked to his mom.  “Be sure to change your clothes,” Lynn said.

Everyone climbed into Lance's Jimmy™.   “You want us to swing by your place?”  Lance asked.

“No.  I’ve got stuff at your place.”

“Have you had breakfast?”  Marc asked.

“Just some juice before we left for church,” Justin answered.

“Let’s go out for breakfast,” Marc said.  “I’ll buy.”

Lance took them to I-Hop for breakfast where they were able to have a quiet breakfast with only one interruption.  A little girl about five came up to their table with her coloring book and a crayon and asked for Justin’s and Lance’s autograph.

After a good breakfast, they headed back to Lance and Marc’s place.  Lance and Marc went up to change as Justin headed out the back door to change in his room at the studio.

“Okay, what’s the plan?”  Justin asked as he entered the garage.

“If it is a musical instrument, it goes in the studio,” Marc said.  “If it is books or notebooks they go in the den.”

“Clothes put by the back door and we’ll take them over to the house when we are done here,” Lance added.

“When you going to take the van back?”  Justin inquired.

“I’ll drop it off in the morning before I catch my flight,” Marc answered.

“What flight?”

“Do you remember Bobby Lee?”  Marc asked.

“Isn’t he the kid from Disneyland?”  Justin asked.

Marc nodded.  “I made a deal with him that when he could walk on his own two feet I’d bring him out to Orlando and we’d do Disney World.”

Justin laughed, “I take it he’s ready to take you up on your offer.”

“Yeah, he’s doing real well with his new legs.  He lives with his grandmother and she won't let him come out until she meets me.”

“I can understand that.  For all she knows you may be some pervert wanting to sell her grandson into slavery.”

“God, I hope that’s not what she is thinking.  We’ve talked a couple times on the phone and she sounds like a nice lady.”

“She also knows that without your help Bobby wouldn’t have his legs,” Lance added.

Marc picked up a large drum case, “Let’s get this done.”

It didn’t take long for everything to get sorted out.  While Marc worked in the studio storing his instruments in hidden wall panels, Lance and Justin started to unpack Marc’s books organizing them on the wall of shelves.

“Marc seems to be in a good mood today,” Justin observed.  “Would today's mood have anything to do with last night?”

A smile spread across Lance’s face as a slight blush rose.  “It might have.”

Justin laughed, “I didn’t realize Marc was into kinky.”

“Not kinky really, more like role playing.”

“So, my brother was the cowboy.  What were you?  The Indian?”

“No,” Lance blushed.  “I was a cowboy, too.”

“How much fun can you have if both of you are cowboys?”

Lance grinned as he bobbed his eyebrows.

“Anyone around?”  Joey called out as he came in the door.

“In here,” Justin called out from the den.

“How’s it going?”  Joey asked.

Lance stood up and looked around, “I think we have this room covered.  Until Marc picks out furniture we can’t do much more.”

“Where is Marc?”  Joey asked.

“He’s in the studio,” Lance answered.

“I’ll go see if he needs a hand,” Joey said as he turned to leave.

Joey opened the door to the Dungeon to find a pair of legs sticking out from under the control board.  “What are you up to, bro?”

“What? . . .  Oh hi, Joe,” Marc said as he scooted out from under the control board.  “Just making a few connections.”

“I thought everything was finished in here.”

“For the most part it is.  I’m just getting ready to install my computers.  This part is custom and it’s quicker if I do it myself.”

“Can I be of any help?”  Joey asked.

“Yeah, you want to start moving the four boxes in the hall in here.”

“Sure.”

“What the hell do you have in here?” Joey asked as he struggled with a large box.

“It’s one of the two servers and the other two are storage units.”

“Servers?”  Joey asked.

“It’s the engine of the computer.  This one will have eight processors and the storage units will have over six terabyte of storage.”

“Is that a lot?” Joey asked.

Marc nodded, “It could run a good size city.”

Joey came out onto the pool area, finding his band mates sitting around talking.

Lance spotted Joey, “How’s it going in there?”

Joey shrugged, “I’m not sure.”

“What’s he doing?”  Chris asked.

“He’s talking to his computer.”

“He’s got it up all ready?”  Lance asked.

“Yeah, he hooked his laptop to it and everything came alive.  Once his voice program was working he started talking another language.”

“Well, we may not see him for the rest of the day,” Lance laughed.

Joey had the barbecue loaded with hamburgers and hot dogs when Chris came up to him.  “How long before we eat?”  Chris asked.

“In just a few minutes.  Someone should go get Marc.”

“I’ve taken care of it.  I cracked the door to the studio.  The smell of the food should be getting to him about now.”

Sure enough, the door to the studio slammed shut as Marc came staggering out onto the pool area.  “Food!  I need food!”

Laughing Lance held out his arms as Marc fell into them.  “It’s a good thing you don’t make your living as an actor.  You suck at it.”  At that moment Marc’s stomach rumbled. And everyone broke up.

Marc leaned into Lance’s ear and whispered, “You had no complaints of how I sucked last night.”

Joey exploded with laughter when he saw Lance’s deep red blush.  Whatever Marc had said to him, it must have really hit home.

The guys had called it a night and headed home.  Setting the alarm, Marc pulled the pool door close behind him.  Lance was standing in the middle of the large back yard looking up into the night sky.  Walking up behind him Marc wrapped his arms around Lance’s waist giving him a kiss behind the ear.  “What you looking at?”

“The night sky,” Lance said with a sigh.

Marc looked up and smiled.   “Can’t see that much here in the city.”

“Yeah, I know.  It’s nothing like up at the lake.”

Lance looked around the yard.  “You know it is really dark out here when there is no moon out.  I guess we should put in a lighted path.”

“If we run it along the fence line that would leave the yard open for games,” Marc suggested.

“Oh!  I know,” Lance said excitedly.  “I always like those rows of columns with a roof over it.”

“You mean a colonnade?”

“Yeah, that’s it.  Rows of marble columns.”

“Rows of marble columns don’t fit with either house,” Marc chuckled.

“Yeah, you’re right,” Lance said dejected.

“But it would fit if we did it in red-wood.”

“Yeah, with exposed beams,” Lance enthused.

“We could use flagstone for the walkway,” Marc suggested.  “Maybe six or eight feet wide.”

“Why so wide?”  Lance asked as he turned around in Marc’s arms.

“We could put seating along it.  That way when we have friends over they can sit in the shade while they watch the ball games.”

“Ball games?”

“This yard is big enough to play most sports.  Touch football, soccer, softball, Croquet, that sort of thing.”

“I love the idea,” Lance said as he leaned in for a kiss.

They had finished an enjoyable shower together, a little groping and a lot of kissing but nothing hot and heavy.  Lance was sitting up in bed watching Marc pack his overnight bag.

“How much are you taking?”  Lance asked.

“Just two changes of clothes.  I figured I’d need to change after that long flight.  I’m planning on taking Bobby and his grandmother out for supper.  Then something to wear the next day.”

“Did you arrange for a car?”

“Already taken care of,” Marc said as he crawled into bed.

“Well then come here cowboy and give me a kiss.”

Marc was on all fours over Lance as he looked down with a strange expression.

“Boo, what’s wrong?”

“It’s, it’s just what you said.”

“What?  Give me a kiss?  I’ve said that to you a thousand times.”

“No.  It’s not that.  You called me cowboy.”

Lance grinned, “After last night you will always be my cowboy.”

“David called me cowboy last night.”

“Who is David?”  Lance demanded.  “And how did you see him last night.”

Marc looked into Lance’s eyes and saw that green-eyed monster called jealously lurking there.  “I met him last night in a dream.  So don’t go and get all jealous on me.”

“Why were you dreaming about this David guy?”

“I wasn’t at first.  Oh, damn, how do I explain this. . .  Okay.  The dream took place on the beach.”

“Our dream beach?”  Lance asked.

“Yeah, the same one. . .  I knew I was dreaming but I hadn’t started this dream.”

“Who did?  This David guy?”

“No.  Ryan was behind this one.”

“Your little brother?”  Lance’s expression changed to a broad smile.

Marc nodded.  “He came to see me and deliver a message from the big guy.”

“Oh, you mean. . . “

“Yeah, the big man himself, God.”

“Wow!  But who is this David?”

“Guess,” Marc teased.

“I don’t know.  Another dream walker like your friend, Matt.”

“No.”

“An angel.”

Marc grinned, “You’re close.”

“He was with Ryan. . .   Did he look anything like you?”

Marc laughed, “A lot like me.  David is my twin.”

“Oh, god, Marc!  You saw your brother?”

Marc nodded as a tear slid down his cheek.

Lance wrapped his arms around Marc’s neck and pulled him down on top of him giving him a deep kiss.

Marc rolled off to his side and Lance turned with him so they were still looking into each other's eyes.

“You have to tell me everything,” Lance urged.

“We look a lot alike.  The only thing is he looks younger.”

“I guess you don’t age after you die.”

‘It looks that way,” Marc said.

“How much do you remember about him?”

“Not that much.  I did remember he likes to be call Davy, not David.”

Lance just smiled at Marc.

“The two of them wouldn’t tell me anything about my past.  They seemed to enjoy the fact that I didn’t remember much.”

“So what’s the big deal about me calling you cowboy?”

Marc started to blush, “Davy call me cowboy.”

“Why?”

“Ah, it seems he has been checking up on me.  He saw what we did last night.”

Lance rolled onto his back not sure what to think.  “Your brother watched us having sex?”

Marc laughed.  “I don’t think so.  He doesn’t seem to be into that kind of thing.  But he did overhear my comment to you about riding me hard.”

“Oh, shit! Are you sure he didn’t watch?”

“No, I can’t be certain.  But from the way he talked my brother is or was straight.”

“So you don’t think he would watch?”

Marc shrugged, “You never know.  Maybe you will get to meet him soon.  Then you can ask him.”

“This is weird.  Just knowing that someone may be watching kind of freaks me out.”

“Hey, don’t let this get to you.  If what we do was looked down upon by the big guy don’t you think Ryan would have said something?”

“Yeah, you’re right.  What was the message Ryan was to deliver?”

“The message was to follow my heart.  He said there was going to be a lot of things happening in my life and if I followed my heart everything would work out all right.”

“That’s good advice,” Lance said turning back into Marc’s arms.

Marc reached over and turned off the bedside light.  “I love you, James,” Marc said softly.

“Love you too Boo.”

Marc chuckled, “Ryan, Davy, I love you both.  Good night.”

“Davy, why did you stop me?  I just wanted to let him know we heard him.”

“I know, Ry.  But causing the curtain to move when the windows were closed may have freaked out Boo’s boyfriend.”

Ryan giggled at the thought.  “That would have been funny.”

Johnny Wright walked into Lou Pearlman’s office.

“Is that it?”  Lou asked.

Johnny nodded, “The final figures from the tour.  The last half sure turned things around.”

“Why is that?”  Lou asked as he opened the report.

“Our expenses came in ten percent under budget.”

“That’s good.  Be sure to give Pete a pat on the back for a job well done.”

“It wasn’t Pete that made the difference,” Johnny said.  “Marc took over that part of Pete’s job when he joined the tour.  He was able to get us some good size discounts by booking different hotels.”

“Really?”  Lou said as he gazed over the printout.  “I’ll get with my accountants this week and you should see your final payment soon after.”

“That’s what I like to here,” Johnny grinned.  “Let me know when you want to start planning the next tour.”

“If everything goes smoothly in the studio we should be releasing in October.  I’ll get with you around that time.”

“Looking forward to it,” Johnny said as he left Lou’s office.

Lou was grinning as he looked down on the report.  Rubbing his hands together he chuckled, “Now, let’s see where we can do some creative accounting.”

The jet way door opened and the flow of passengers commenced.  Marc was one of the first passengers off the plane.  At the end of the jet way he turned to make his way to pick up his rental.  He was not more then ten feet from the gate when he noticed a young man standing behind a small group, scanning the passengers coming off the plane.

A smile spread across Marc’s face as he moved to stand beside Bobby.  “You meeting someone on this flight?”  Marc asked.

“Yes, a friend,” Bobby said as he glanced at the man standing by his side.  “Marc?”

“Hi, kid.”

“I didn’t recognize you with the beard.”

“I almost didn’t recognize you also,” Marc said.  “You’re taller then the last time I saw you.”

Bobby started to blush at Marc’s comment.  Placing an arm across Bobby's shoulder he gave him a gentle squeeze.  “Why are you here?”

“I came to meet your plane.”

A frown crossed Marc’s face.  “How did you get here?”

“I came by bus.”

“Well, I’m glad to see you,” Marc said.  “I wasn’t sure if I could find your house.”

“I’m here to be your guide.”

“Helen, how are you doing today?”

“I’m doing fine, Jeff.  Come on in and let's see what you have for me.”

“Is Bobby around?”  Jeff asked as he joined Helen in her modest living room.

“He’s so excited that Marc is coming.  He took the bus to the airport to meet him,” Helen laughed.

With Bobby’s directions, they pulled into the driveway just twenty minutes after leaving the airport.  Marc parked behind a large sedan.  As he turned off the engine, he noticed a frown on Bobby's face.  “Something wrong?”  Marc asked.

“No, I don’t think so.  Grandma has a visitor, that’s all.”

Bobby led the way into the house.  “Grandma, we’re here,” Bobby called out.

“In the living room dear.”

Following Bobby, they walked down the hall and entered a small sitting room.   Setting on matching wingback chairs was what Marc took to be Bobby’s grandmother and a distinguished looking gentleman at her left.

Bobby made the introductions.  “Grandma, this is my friend Marc.”

“It’s good to finally me you, Mrs. Brown.”

“Call me Helen, Marc.  And this is my dear friend, Jeff Bloom.”

Marc placed his bag on the floor and went to shake hands with Mr. Bloom.  “It’s nice to meet you sir.”

“Marc, it’s Jeff.  How was your flight?”

“It was a smooth flight,” Marc answered.

“Bobby, dear, why don’t you take Marc’s bag up to your room,” Helen said.  “And could you give us some time to talk with Marc?”

“Sure, grandma,” Bobby said with a smile.  “Marc, my room is the first door on the right.  Come and get me when you are through with the inquisition.”

Marc laughed, “If I make it through, I’ll look you up.”

Bobby picked up Marc’s bag and headed up the stairs.

Helen had been watching how Marc and Bobby interacted and was pleased at what she had seen.  After Bobby departed, Marc turned his attention back toward the others in the room.  Marc’s nervousness showed when his eyes darted around the room looking at everything but at Helen and Jeff.

“Marc, how are your father and sister doing?”  Helen asked.

Helen’s question surprised Marc.  From what he could remember about the conversations with Bobby, he hadn’t spoken of his family.

“They are doing well,” Marc answered with a slight frown.

“Dr. Morgan must be delighted becoming a new father again,” Jeff said with a big grin.

“How do you know about that?”  Marc asked.

“I asked Jeff to look into your background,” Helen said.

Marc’s blood pressure began to rise, ‘How dare they look into my background.’

Marc, let me explain what’s going on,” Helen said.

Lance had just gotten up from a nap when the phone rang.  “Hello.”

“Hey, Scoop.  What are you up to?”  Joey asked.

“Hi, Joe.  Nothing much; just waiting for Marc to call.”

“Josh and I are over here at the studio.  Why don’t you come on over and keep me company while Josh is working in the studio?”

“I think we are going to have to work out some kind of schedule for the studio,” Lance laughed.  “I’ll be right over.”

Marc sat quietly listening to Helen’s explanation.  His mind was reeling.  He didn’t know what to think.

Helen had completed her story and sat waiting for Marc’s reaction.

After running his hand through his hair, Marc let out a big sigh.  “I was not prepared for anything like this.”

“Do you need some time to think this over?”  Jeff asked.

“Could you give me a few hours to think this through?  There are other people I have to consider.”

“Sure, we understand,” Helen said.  “Take as long as you need.”

Standing for the first time in an hour Marc said.  “I’m going to take a walk.  If Bobby wonders what’s going on just tell him I’ll be back after I have time to think.”

Bobby heard the front door close and he went to look out his bedroom window.  He saw Marc walking down the sidewalk.  He called out Marc’s name but the window was closed and Marc didn’t hear him.

Going down the stairs as quickly as he could manage he burst into the living room, “Where is Marc going?”

“He just went for a walk, dear,” Helen said.  “He has something he needs to think over.”

“What did you say to him?  Why is he leaving?” a very upset Bobby almost shouted.

“Bobby, calm down,” Jeff said.  “Marc just went for a walk.  He’s coming back.”

Bobby didn’t believe Jeff and he ran out of the room.  Hopping on his bike, he went off to look for Marc.

“What do you think is going to happen when he finds Marc,” Jeff asked.

“I think what ever happens will define their future relationship.”

Marc ended up in a small park just a couple blocks from Bobby's house.  There was a small grove of trees at the back of the park that Marc made his way to and sat down under one of the trees.  Pulling out his cell he sat there just gazing at it not sure who he should call.  He knew he needed to call Lance and he so much wanted his dad’s input too.  With a sigh, he made his first call to Lance.  Marc hung up after eight rings.  “He’s not at the house,” Marc said to himself.

Bobby had managed to cover several blocks looking for Marc in a very short time.  He had pulled into the park to get a drink of water.

Marc saw Bobby at the drinking fountain.  Marc’s stomach did a flip flop not sure what to do if Bobby spotted him.

After talking a long cool drink, Bobby went to get onto his bike when something caught his eye.  Marc was sitting under a tree looking at him.  Before he could call out Marc’s name Marc waved him over.  Walking his bike over, he found Marc squinting up at him.

“Why did you leave?”  Bobby asked.

“I didn’t leave.  I just needed some fresh air and some time to think about something,”  Marc replied.

“Think about what?”

“Come on and sit with me,” Marc said patting the ground next to him.  “You’re giving me a stiff neck.”

Smiling Bobby sat down next to Marc.

“What did grandma say to you?”

“You love your grandmother, don’t you?”

“Yes, she is all I have,” Bobby said.

“And she loves you very much. . .  Bobby, how has your grandmother's health been?”

“She says that there is nothing wrong.  But I know she isn’t telling me the truth.  I can see she is having trouble walking.  And there is some days she stays in her room all day,” Bobby said as tears started to fill his eyes.  “Marc, I’m so scared that someday I’ll come home and find her dead.”

Marc wrapped his arm around Bobby’s shoulder giving him a hug.

“Marc, what’s happening to her?”

Looking into Bobby’s pleading eyes Marc knew what he had to do.  “Bobby, I’m not going to lie to you.  Your grandmother's health is failing.”

“Wa, what’s wrong?”

“It’s her heart.”

“Can’t they fix it?  A bypass or something?”

“It’s not that simple.  If it had been caught early enough that may have worked.  But the heart muscle has been damaged too much.”

“Is, is she going to die?”

“Bobby, everyone dies.  It’s part of life.”

“How, how soon?”  Bobby asked with tears running down his cheeks.

Marc pulled his tighter.  “The doctors have given your grandmother four, maybe five months.”

“That soon!”

“It could be longer if she removes some of the stress in her life.”

“Stress?  What kind of stress?”

“The biggest stress she has right now is her worrying about what will happen to you after she leaves.”

Bobby wrapped his arms around Marc’s neck and started to cry uncontrollably.   Marc held his young friend tight and let him get it out of his system.  Lightly rubbing his back Marc tried to give Bobby his strength.

Slowly Bobby regained his composure.  “Wa, what will happen to me?”

“That’s what your grandmother wanted to talk to me about.”

“It was?”

“I know that your grandmother is your only family.  And with no other family to take you she needed to find someplace for you to go.  Her biggest fear is that you would have to go into foster care.”

“Is that where I’ll be going?”

“No.  You won’t be going into foster care,” Marc said in a calm voice.

“What’s going to happen to me?”

“Your grandmother has arranged for someone to become your guardian.”

“Who?  Mr. Bloom?”

“Why do you say that?”  Marc asked.

“He and grandma have known each other like, forever.  I think something was going on between those two when they were young.  She has old pictures of them both when they were in school together.”

“How would you feel about Mr. Bloom being your guardian?”  Marc asked.

Bobby thought for a long moment.  “Grandma likes him.  He has never been married so I don’t know how he would be with kids.  The only thing is he is as old as grandma, how long would he be around to be my guardian?”

“That’s a good point,” Marc chuckled.

“Is Mr. Bloom going to be my guardian?”

“No,” Marc shook his head.

“Who then?”

“What would you think about me being your guardian?”  Marc asked.

Bobby’s face light up with a smile, “Do you mean it?”

“That’s what your grandmother wanted to talk to me about.”

“Are you going to do it?”

“That’s what I came out here to think about.”

Bobby’s smile quickly faded, “You don’t want me?”

“No.  It’s not that,” Marc said pulling Bobby in tighter to him.  “But it’s just not me I have to think about.”

“You mean Lance, don’t you?”

“Yes.  He is my partner.  What affects my life, will also affect his life.  In time you will come and live with us.”

“What happens if he doesn’t want me?”

“I was about to contact him.  Let’s find out what he thinks.”   Marc hadn’t gotten a answer at the house when he first tried.  On a hunch, he dialed the studio.

Lance was drying himself after getting out of the pool when the phone started ring.  He dashed to grab it.  “Hello,” Lance said a little out of breath.

“Hey, love, why are you out of breath?”  Marc asked as Bobby looked on with a grin.

“Oh, I just got out of the pool.  How was your flight?”

“It was fine.  James, do I hear the guys there?”

“Joey and Chris are here at the pool.  JC and Justin are working in the studio.”

Marc smiled when he heard what has been going on in his studio.  “James, I need you to go back to the house and call me back.”

“What’s going on?” Lance asked with concern.  “Is something wrong?”

“I just need to talk to you without any distractions.”

“K, I’ll call you right back,” Lance said.

“Hey, Scoop, was that Marc?”  Joey yelled from the pool.

“Yeah, that was him,” Lance answered as he headed for the door.  “I’ll be back in a bit.  I need to take care of something.”

Chris swum up next to Joey as Lance went out the door.  “What’s going on?”

Joey shrugged his shoulders, “I don’t know.”

Lance went into his den and dialed Marc’s cell.

“Hey,” Marc answered.  “You alone?”

“Yes, what’s going on?”

“Are you sitting down?”

“Yes. . . .   What has happened?”  Lance felt something was up.

After taking a deep breath, Marc told Lance about his meeting with Helen and Jeff.  Lance listened quietly as Marc related the story.

“God, I don’t know what to say,” Lance said softly.

“Tell me what you are feeling,”  Marc asked.

“I’m feeling that my love for you grows every day.”

“I feel the same way,” Marc said.  “But I need to know what should I do?”

“Boo, you know what needs to be done.  Ryan said it best.  Just follow your heart.”

Lance could hear Bobby in the background asking “What did he say?”

“Boo, we won’t leave him without a family.”

“You mean that?”  Marc’s voice starting to crack.

“Do you have to ask?  Let me talk to Bobby.”

Marc handed his cell to Bobby, “Lance wants to talk to you.”

Bobby took the phone and softly said, “Lance.”

“Hi, buddy.  Sorry to hear about your grandmother.”

“Thanks,” Bobby managed to choke out.

“I just want to say welcome to our family.  And I can’t wait for your arrival tomorrow.”

Tears were flowing from Bobby’s eyes.  Marc pulled him closer.  “Thank you Lance, I, I, can’t wait either.”

Bobby handed the phone back to Marc.  “I love you, James.”

“I love you, too.  How is he doing?”

“With everything that has happened today he’s doing quite well.  I’m proud of him.”

“We’ll talk more when you two get here.   We need to work out some things then.”

“Yeah, I understand.”

“Hurry home you two,” Lance said.  “Love you, Boo.”

“I love you, too,” Marc said.  “Talk to you later.”

Marc looked at his watch then dialed another number.

“Who you calling?”  Bobby asked.

“My dad,” Marc said as the phone began to ring.

“Good evening, this is Dr. Morgan.”

“Good evening, Dr. Morgan, this is Marc Morgan calling.”

“Son,” Tom said with a laugh.  “What’s up?”

“Dad, are you sitting down?”

“Yes I am. . .  What’s happened?”

“I know you are just getting use to having a son.  Is there by any chance there is room in your heart for a grandson?”

Marc only heard silence on the other line.

“Dad?”

“Ah, I’m here.  I take it you aren’t talking about a puppy?”

“No, not a puppy,” Marc laughed.  “Remember I told you about Bobby?”

“Yes, the boy you met in Los Angeles.”

“That’s him.  The only family he has is his grandmother.  Unfortunately her health is failing.”

“What is her problem?”

“Heart disease, she has been suffering with it for some time without her knowledge.  By the time she sought help her heart muscle had been badly damaged.”

“How long does she have?”  Tom asked.

“Ah, hum, “ Marc stammered.

“Bobby is right there with you.  Isn’t he?”

“Yeah.”

“Is he there with you and Lance in Orlando?”

“No, actually, I’m in L.A.  Helen Brown, wanted to meet me before she would let her grandson fly out to Orlando.”

“That’s wise of her.”

“It seems she had a friend of hers look into my background.”

“Really?  Did she find out anything we don’t know?”

“No,” Marc laughed.  “Nothing new.”

“She wants to name me as Bobby's guardian.  When the time comes he will come and live with me and Lance.”

“How does Lance feel about this?”  Tom asked.

“He’s behind me on this.”

“I’m surprised.  You two are just starting out and now you are throwing a third person into the mix.  And this comes out of the blue.”

“Well. . . .  I was kind of warned that something was going to happen.”

“You were warned?”

“Ah, yeah.  I had another visit from Ryan the other night.”

“Oh!  Another dream visit?”

“Yes.  He told me that a lot of things were coming up in my life.  If I just followed my heart, everything would work out all right.”

“That’s kind of cryptic.”

“Yeah I know,” Marc laughed.  “But Ryan had someone to back him up.”

“Okay, I’m almost afraid to ask.  What kind of backup did he bring?”

“He had his older brother backing him up.”

There was silence on the line.  Marc added, “My twin Davy came to visit.”

“Oh, God!” Tom exclaimed.

“They only delivered a message from him,” Marc chuckled.

“So, you remembered your twin.  How was the meeting?”

“Ryan and I were walking on the beach, talking, when someone behind us made a comment.  When I turned around, I came face to face with my twin.  The moment I saw him I knew who he was and his name.”

“I’m so happy for you son.   We can add the name Davy, to another piece of the puzzle of your former life.”

“Little by little the pieces are falling into place,” Marc agreed.

“When are you and Bobby heading back to Orlando?”

“Our flight is scheduled for early in the morning.”

“Well, you two have a safe flight and I hope to meet Bobby some day soon.”

“Thanks, Dad.  Will you let Sara know what’s going on?”

“Sure will.  Goodbye, Son.”

“Bye, Dad,” Marc said before breaking the connection.

Marc sighed as he looked at Bobby.  “That went well.”

“I’m confused,” Bobby said.  “I thought you didn’t remember your family.  But weren’t you just talking to your dad?”

“I think I need to update you on what has happened since we met at Disneyland.  When we met what was my name?”

“You told me your name was Marc Newman.”

“That’s right.  But last week my foster father adopted me.  His name is Tom Morgan.  He has a daughter, Sara.  When I woke from my coma, Tom was my doctor and Sara was my nurse.  We became close and became a family.  My name is now Marc Newman Morgan.”

“Who are Ryan and Davy?”

“Well that is a little harder to explain.  One night last month, I had a dream.  In the dream I met my little brother, Ryan.”

“Ryan is your real little brother?”

Marc nodded.  “I have had two recurring dreams.  One is the nightmare of the crash that kills my family and the other is of a family outing that happened just before the crash.  In it, my family stops to have a picnic.  My mom and dad along with my two brothers enjoy the afternoon together.  In the dream all the people have no faces.”

“Remember a few days after we met when we talked and I told you I was in Orlando with Justin?”

“Yeah, his little brother was sick.”

“That’s right.  One night I couldn’t sleep so I went down to work on some music.  I had fallen asleep at the desk.  When I woke up, I found I had drawn a series of pictures.  They were of Ryan.  When I looked at them, I knew his name and that he was my younger brother.  Shortly after I had a dream and in it I met Ryan.”

“Cool!”

“It was,” Marc smiled.  “A few night ago I had another dream and Ryan was again in it and so was Davy.”

“Your twin.”

Marc nodded.

“So through your dreams you are remembering your family.  Do you think you will ever remember everything?”

“In time I feel I will remember everything.”

Lance returned to the studio with a silly smile on his face.

Chris looked at Joey as Lance came in.  “What’s going on, Scoop?”  Chris asked.

“You will never believe what has just happened,” Lance said.

“Did something happen to Marc?”  Justin asked as he and JC joined everyone at the pool area.

“Well. . .  It seems that we are about to become parents,” Lance announced.

“What?!!”  Everyone shouted.

“Who you calling now?”  Bobby asked.

“One of the ladies in my life that I had better let know about this,” Marc said as he dialed.

“Who’s that?”

“Lance’s mom,” Marc said as the phone started to ring.

“Hello,” Diane Bass answered.

“Hi, Mom.  This is your other son.”

“Marc, baby!  Congratulations.”

Marc started to laugh, “Lance already called.  Didn’t he?”

“Yes, he did.  You don’t think he would keep this kind of news from his mama, do you?”

“No,” Marc laughed.  “I did the same thing, and called my dad.”

“Okay, tell me all about him,” Diane urged.

“Well, his name is Bobby Joe Brown.  He’s thirteen years old.  Dark brown hair and blue-green eyes.  He has freckles on his nose.”

Bobby started to blush as Marc was describing him.

“He is really cute when he blushes.  And has a dynamite smile.  He’s about five foot eight.”

“Five, seven,” Bobby corrected.

“Really?  You look taller,” Marc kidded.

“I’ve been told he is five, seven,” Marc chuckled.  “He’s still a growing boy so he should make it past five, eight.”

“He sounds like a wonderful boy,” Diane said.

“He is,” Marc agreed.

“You two heading back to Orlando tomorrow?”

“Yes, that’s the plan.”

“Well have a good trip and Jim and I will be looking forward to meeting Bobby Joe.”

“I’ll try to make that happen soon.”

“Goodbye, honey.”

“Goodbye, Diane.”

“Marc, can I ask you something?”

“Sure, Bobby, you can ask me anything.”

“You are going to be my guardian.  What exactly will our relationship be?”

“What do you want it to be?”  Marc asked.

“Will you be my dad?”

“If that is what you want,” Marc said.  “Or I could be your older brother.”

Bobby sat and thought it over for a moment.  “I think I need a dad more than I need a big brother.”

“If that’s what you want, I’ll be your dad.”

Bobby seemed happy with the idea.  “What about Lance?  What do I call him?”

“That is something you and Lance will have to work out.  You’ll have five days to figure out where the two of you fit in.”

“Would it be possible to have two dads?”

“If that’s what you want.  Bobby you have to realize that in public you calling me dad will not be a problem.  I will be your legal guardian so calling me dad is not out of the question.  But with Lance you can call him dad only in private.  In public, you must refer to his as Lance, or James.  You may even want to call him uncle.”

“How big of a family am I getting anyway?”

“Well let’s see.  You get me and Lance.”

“My two dads,” Bobby pointed out.

“Yeah,” Marc said with a grin.  “You have a Grandpa Tom and an Aunt Sara.  On the other side of the family, you get Grandma Diane and Grandpa Jim.  There’s Aunt Stacy and Uncle Ford.  No cousins from them yet.  On the third side you have an Uncle Joey, Uncle Chris, Uncle Josh, and Uncle Justin.”

Bobby understood where the last set of uncles came from.  “By any chance is there an Aunt Britney?”

Marc laughed, “You never know.”

Diane had just hung up the phone after telling Jim about the new member to the family when the phone started to ring.  Looking at the caller ID she saw the name Tom Morgan.  It only took a moment to realize who was calling.

“Hello, this is Diane Bass.”

“Hello, Diane, this is Tom Morgan, Marc’s father.”

“Hello, Tom,” Diane laughed.  “I take it you’ve heard the good news.”

“Yes, Marc called and told me.”

“I got the news from both Lance and Marc.”

“So you’ve talked to Lance?  What was his reaction?”

“He seemed so excited,” Diane said.

“Diane, do you think they can do this?”

“I’m not quite sure.  With their schedules and all.”

“I’ve been thinking the same thing.  What are they going to do when they are both working?  And they could be working in different parts of the world.  Marc has concerts in Japan coming up the first of the year.”

“They are going to need help,” Diane stated.

“I agree.  I just got off the phone with my daughter.  We both have some time off this week and I thought we may just drop in on the boys and check out the newest member of the family.”

A grin spread across Diane’s face.  “You know they may feel that you are interfering with their lives by dropping by.”

“Yeah, I hadn’t thought about that.”

“But what could they do if Jim and I also dropped in on them.  They can’t be mad at both set of parents.”

“Diane, I like the way you think” Tom laughed.

“Is there any sign of them yet?”  Helen asked Jeff who was looking out the front window.

“They’re coming up the street now,” Jeff said with a smile.

“They are together?”

“Yes, Bobby is walking his bike with Marc’s arm around his shoulder.”

“Well, we should know shortly what has happened between those two.”

“Are you worried what Marc may have told Bobby?”  Jeff inquired.

“I don’t believe Marc would lie to Bobby.  If Bobby asked the right questions I think Marc would have told him the truth.”

“We’ll find out in a moment,” Jeff said as he sat back down.  “They are coming in.”

Bobby rested his bike against the side of the house.  As he and Marc walked to the front door, his stomach started to tie up in knots.  “Marc, what do I say to grandma?”

“Just tell her what’s in your heart.”

Bobby took in a ragged breath as he opened the door.  Marc kept his hand on Bobby's shoulder as they walked down the hall.  As they stepped into the living room Bobby froze when he spotted his grandmother.

Helen looked up and she could see the pain in her grandson's eyes.  When tears started to stream down Bobby's face.  Helen held out her arms to him and he rushed into them.

“Oh, grandma, I, I’m so sorry,” Bobby sobbed.

“Shush, there is nothing to cry about,” Helen said softly as she rubbed his back to comfort him.

“But you are going to die.  I don’t want you to die.”

“Child, dying is part of life.  No matter how hard you fight it you can’t stop it from happening.”

“But I want you to stay around as long as you can,” Bobby said.  “I will do what I can to help you.”

Helen looked at Marc.  “Have you decided?”

Marc nodded, “I’ll be happy to do it.  When can you have the papers ready?”

Jeff rose from his chair, “I have everything set out in the dining room.”

Jeff led Marc into the dining room.  “I have everything here.  If you want to look over these documents I’ll answer any questions you may have.”

“Thank you,” Marc said as he took the first document and started reading it.

Jeff watched as Marc quickly flipped through the pages of the documents.  He had been told that Marc had the ability to read a page with just a glance and he was amazed to see someone doing just that.

As Marc was reading, Helen had joined them.

Marc placed the last document down but did not remove his hand.

“Do you have any questions?”  Jeff asked.

“Only regarding the trust.  I would prefer that you remain principle trustee.  I just would like to have the right to have spot audits whenever I see fit.”

“That won’t be a problem,” Jeff said as he took the document from Marc and added a clause to that effect.

When Jeff had finished he handed Marc his pen.  “If you would just sign each document where I have indicated.”

Marc signed each document.  Jeff then had Helen witness each document before he himself signed each one and affixed his seal to each.

Taking one document he folded it, put it in an envelope and handed it to Marc.  “That one gives you temporary guardianship of Bobby for your trip.  If anything should happen you have the power to seek medical help for him.”

“I understand,” Marc said.

“I will file the rest with the court tomorrow.  By next week you should have guardianship of Bobby.”

Marc let out a large sigh of relief.  “Now that, that’s taken care of, how about I take everyone out to dinner?”

“You don’t have to,” Helen started to protest.

“I know I don’t have to but I want to,” Marc said.  “Jeff, will you join us?”

“I’d love to.”  Picking up a folder Jeff held it out to Marc.  “I think you may want this.”

Marc looked questionably at the folder.

“It’s the background check I had done on you.  It includes some photos that you may not want to get out.”

Marc opened the folder and was amazed at the number of photos.

“The memory cards from the digital camera are in the envelope.  There are no other copies.”

“Thank you, Jeff.  Some of these pictures would cause a lot of problems for my partner.”

“If we are going out, we need to get ready,” Helen said.  “Bobby, show Marc where he can freshen up.”

“K, grandma.  This way Marc,” Bobby said as he led the way.

Dinner was at a very nice restaurant that Jeff had suggested.  It gave Marc an opportunity to get to know Helen and Jeff better.  The more Marc talked with Jeff the better feeling he got.  In the end Marc, knew he could trust Jeff and felt that his overseeing of the handling of Bobby's trust was the best thing.

Upon arriving back at the house, Marc parked at the curb so Jeff could back his car out of the drive.  Jeff walked Helen to the front door before saying his goodbyes.  Jeff gave Helen a kiss on the cheek before he headed home.

Marc pulled into the drive after Jeff had left.  The sun was setting as Marc walked into the house.

“Marc, thank you for a marvelous evening,” Helen said.

“You’re welcome.  It was my pleasure.”

“Well I’m going to say goodnight.  It’s been a hectic day.”

“Have a goodnight, Helen.”

“Goodnight, grandma.”

Helen shuffled off to her room at the back of the house.

“Come on kiddo, it’s been a long day for me and we need to be heading for Orlando in the morning.”

As they were walking up the stairs Marc asked, “Are you all packed?”

“I was packed within an hour of you telling me when we were going,” Bobby chuckled.

“Did you pack a bathing suit?”

“I, I, don’t swim.”

“You don’t?  Or you can’t?”

“I haven’t been swimming since the accident.  I, I don’t want people staring at me.”

Placing an arm around Bobby's shoulder Marc asked, “Do you own a bathing suit?”

Bobby shook his head no.

Entering the bedroom Marc said, “When we get to Orlando we will go shopping and pick you up a suit.”

“But Marc, I don’t want people to see me.”

Marc and Bobby sat on the end of one of the beds.  “Bobby, the only people who will see you will be your new family.  There is a big pool at the house along with a great hot tub.”

“Are you sure?”  Bobby asked.

Lance was sitting up in bed reading when the phone rang.  Reaching over to the night stand he answered,  “Hello.”

“Ah, the voice of the man I’m missing so much,” Marc said softly.

“I’m missing you, also.  This bed is so big without you next to me.”

“I’m sorry I can’t be there with you,” Marc murmured.  “I promise to be there tomorrow night.”

“I’m going to hold you to that,” Lance said as he slid lower into his bed.  “What are you doing now?”

“Getting ready to turn in.  Bobby’s in the bathroom getting ready.”

“Is his room near by?”  Lance asked.

“I’m staying with him in his room.”

“Oh, really.  Do you think that is a good idea?”

“James, there are two beds.  If we are going to be a family there are aspects of all our lives we need to experience.”

“Like living with someone that has a condition like Bobby?”

“He has no condition.  James, you’ll have to look past what you call his condition.  He is a bright, sensitive, young man and what will he see in your eyes when you two meet?”

“I’m not sure,” Lance softly answered.

“That’s an honest answer.  The boy is really self-conscious about his legs.  There will be times that he will need our help.  We need him to feel comfortable enough to ask both of us for the help he needs.”

“I understand.  Marc, I do have one question.”

“Okay.”

“How are we, you and I, supposed to act around him?”

Marc thought for a long moment.  “I think we just need to be ourselves.  He understands our relationship and he seems okay with it.  I’m not going to stop hugging and kissing you just because he is in the room.”

“We are going to kiss in front of him?”

“Yes and no,” Marc chuckled getting what Lance meant.  I’m not going to shove my tongue down your throat if that’s what you mean.  We need to save that for our bedroom.  I won’t stop giving you light kisses and hugs.  Bobby needs to see that affection between two people can be a good thing.  I don’t intend to start acting differently around the guys.  I love them all and I will continue to show them my love.”

“Justin would never forgive you if you did,” Lance laughed.

“Bobby needs to feel the love in our family,” Marc added.  “Anyway I’m not going to give up cuddling.”

“Neither will I.”

“I’d like to include him if he feels like it,” Marc added.

“So would I,” Lance agreed.

Bobby came back into the bedroom carrying his dirty clothes.  He was wearing only his underpants and when Marc looked up, he started to blush.  “Ah, the bathroom is all yours.”

“Thanks,” Marc said as he picked up his toilet kit.  Going into the bathroom Marc took a quick shower.  When he returned, he had his dirty clothes in his arms and was in his boxers.

Bobby looked up and grinned.

Marc went to his bag, pulled out his outfit for the next morning and packed away his outfit from today.  Marc had his back to Bobby as he packed his bag.  When he turned around Bobby's eyes got real big.

“Cool!  Can I get a tattoo too?”

Marc looked down at his left chest and chuckled.  “It’s not real.  And no, you can’t get a tattoo.  You are too young.”

“But it looks so cool,” Bobby wined.  “When will I be old enough?”

Marc didn’t know what to say.  He hadn’t planned for any of this kind of parenting thing to come up so soon.  What would his dad say?

“When you are on your own you can do what ever you want with your body.  Until then I will have the final say on tattoos and any body piercing.”

“But, Dad,” Bobby whined with a mischievous grin.

Marc picked up the pillow on his bed and started beating Bobby with it.  Bobby was laughing as he fought off Marc’s attack.

Marc had no idea how long he had been asleep when moaning brought him out of his slumber.

“No, please don’t leave me,” Bobby called out in his sleep as he thrashed about in his bed.  “Please take me with you.  Mama don’t leave me.  Oh, please take me with you.  I’m so scared.  I don’t want to be alone.  Daaaddy, don’t leave me!”

Marc was at Bobby's bedside in a flash.  Reaching down he gently shook Bobbys shoulder, “Bobby, wake up.  You are having a bad dream.”

Bobby woke up and thru his arms around Marc’s neck.  Uncontrolled sobs racked Bobby.  Marc held him tight as the anguish that had been building up in Bobby for so long poured forth.

Bobby’s cries did not go unnoticed by his grandmother.  She knew her grandson was having another nightmare.  One of many reoccurring nightmares he has had since he lost his family.  When he had first come to live with her, Bobby had slept on the hideaway bed in the living room.  She had been able to comfort him when he had his bad dreams.  But after he was fitted with his new legs he insisted on moving upstairs to a bedroom of his own.  And since then Helen would lay in her bed and listen to his cries in the night and her heart would break because she couldn’t do anything for him.  Tonight’s dream sounded like most of the rest but something seemed different.  Helen could hear Bobby crying.  His crying was lasting a lot longer then normal and she was becoming concerned.  Then another sound reached her ears.  The sound of squeaking bed springs could be heard under Bobby's sobs.

Marc held bobby in his arms slowly rocking back and forth rubbing his back as he softly said, “It’s going to be all right. It’s going to be all right.  Shush.”

Bobby’s crying had not let up and Marc was becoming concerned.   Placing the palm of his hand against Bobby's back Marc looked deep down inside himself and drew on his strength.   Bobby felt Marc’s hand on his back.  The hand that was trying to comfort him.  The hand that felt so good.  The warmth of that hand slowly started to spread across his back.  That warmth felt like a blanket.  A blanket that made him feel safe and loved.  As that feeling spread, Bobby's sobs diminished.  It wasn’t long before the only sounds was that of Marc telling him it was going to be all right.  He was going to be all right.  He was no longer alone and that he was loved.

Bobby looked up at Marc and he saw tears running down his face.  Reaching up he brushed a tear off Marc’s cheek.

Marc looked down at the boy in his arms, “Are you feeling better?”

Bobby nodded, “Yes, thanks.”

Marc slowly lowered the boy back onto his bed.  “Why don’t you try to get some sleep,”  Marc said as he brushed a lock of hair from Bobby's eyes.  “I’ll stay right here until you fall asleep.”

“Marc, will you sleep with me?  I need you to hold me.”

“Sure, son.  Move over.”  Marc slid in next to Bobby.  Bobby snuggled into Marc resting his head on Marc’s shoulder.  Marc’s strong arm wrapped around him, pulling in even closer.

“Is this better?”  Marc asked.

“Yes,” Bobby softly said as he took in a deep breath.  Bobby took in the scent of Marc.  A scent he knew so well.  The same sent he had always smelled when his dad would hold him when he was little.  It was a comforting scent.  He knew when he was in his dads arms he was safe and loved.  Bobby knew he wasn’t in is dad's arms.  He knew Marc was holding him, and he knew he was also safe in this mans arm's.

“Try to get some rest.”

“I will.  Goodnight, dad.”

“Goodnight, son.”
