Never Too Much Chapter 7
by JT Poole
// Fernandina Beach, FL -- Down in the Kitchen -- Sunday Morning //
"Okay so we know he's okay, we just don't know where the brat is." Chris spoke, pouring himself a cup of coffee.
"Yeah that's basically it." JT stated.
"Where do you think he could be JT?" Ashley asked.
"He could be anywhere around here, he knows the area pretty well." JT spoke, getting up and grabbing another apple out of the fruit bowl just as Dan walked in, fully dressed.
"Hey baby, still no word of where he is?" Dan asked.
"None yet. Actually he may not be here in Fernandina." JT spoke.
"Oh great so he's out there drinking and driving and we don't know where he is. This is just fucking great. I wish we never came here!" Jacob screamed, running out of the room.
"I'll go talk to him." Dan spoke, turning and walking out of the kitchen.
"Here we go again." Ashley stated.
"Chris I don't know if I can handle him now. This is going a little bit too far." JT spoke, sitting his head on the table. "This is too much for me to deal with. This was supposed to be a simple vacation for me to calm down and get away from everything."
"JT how bad can things be?" Chris asked.
"Bad Chris, real bad. I can't take it anymore. Right now, if it wasn't for you guys, I probably would be out there floating face down." JT spoke, tears running down his face.
"JT what are you saying?" Chris asked.
"Nothing, just forget I said anything." JT stated, getting up and walking out the back door to the beach.
"Baby keep an eye on him. He's talking like Dan used to talk. He might be suicidal." Ashley stated, getting up and walking over to the window to see where JT was going.
"I don't think JT would be suicidal. He has too much going for him right now." Chris spoke.
"Well I think he is. Those are the words of a person that's on the edge baby. Mark my words, something's not right with JT." Ashley stated, just as Dan walked back into the room.
"What's not right with JT? What are you talking about Ash and where is he?" Dan asked looking around for JT. "Where is he?"
"He went outside to walk." Chris stated, watching what he said to Dan, just in case what Ashley has told him about Dan was true also.
"Which way did he go?" Dan asked, looking out the window now, next to Ashley.
"He went down there." Ashley stated. "Where's Jacob?"
"He went back into his and Lance's room. He said he was going to take a
nap." Dan spoke, walking outside.
// A few meters from the house //
--- Dan's POV ---
A walked down the steps from the house that lead to the beach and spotted JT walking slowly down the shoreline. As I got closer to him, I could hear him singing something.
"Time's a wastin dont you take your time young man keep on drifting ain't no telling where you'll land
run baby run run where you running to who you're running from Some people may not understand what it means to be a man taking full command
Cuz we're living in a world that's oh so strange boy don't let your focus change taking out the demons in your range Living in a world that's oh so fast gotta make your money last learn from your past..." He sang.
I slowly walked behind him listening to the words of the song and tears came to my eyes. I don't know what it was that got me going, but listening to him sing set my water show.
"Baby are you okay?" I ask him as he stopped singing and turned to face me.
"I...I.. don't know." He said, looking at me with tears in his eyes also.
"Baby why are you crying?" I ask him.
"I don't know. Why are you crying Dan?" he asks, reaching up to caress the side of my cheek.
"I was listening to you sing that song and it touched me some how. What's the name of that song?" I ask him.
"That's `Time's A Wastin' by Erykah Badu." He tells me, looking away from me.
"What's wrong? Why can't you look me in the eye?" I ask him.
"I can look you in the eye, see." He says, looking at me quickly and letting his eyes move back down looking at some unknown object on the ground.
"JT there's something wrong. Why aren't you looking or talking to me?" I ask him, stopping him from walking along.
"There's nothing wrong Dan honest there isn't." he tells me, still not meeting my eyes.
"Damnit JT talk to me. Why aren't you looking at me?" I ask him, turning him to face me as I notice something red on his shirt. "JT what's that?"
"What's what?" He asks, looking away in the other direction.
"What's that on your shirt!" I scream, realizing it's blood.
"Nothing's on my shirt." He speaks, jerking away from me as I notice the blood is on my hands now.
"Oh my God, JT what have you done to yourself?" I ask him grabbing his hands to see that he is slowly bleeding from one of his wrists.
"I haven't done anything Dan, just leave me alone. Just go back to the house and leave me out here." He tells me. "Just go back up there. I will finally be alright."
"The hell I will. Come on!" I yell at him, grabbing him by the other arm and dragging him back towards the house as he struggled with me.
"No Dan stop, just leave me right here. I belong right here." He said, just as I saw Chris and Ashley approaching us.
"What's up with you two? Are you two fighting?" Chris asked, noticing the blood.
"Oh my fucking God! JT what have you done?" Chris asked, looking at JT's and my clothing.
"I haven't done anything, that I haven't needed to do." He said, as he was trying to close his eyes.
"Oh God, we need to call the ambulance." Ashley stated, running back towards the house.
"Leave me alone! Just leave me alone all of you!" He screamed, falling to his knees, sounding very weak now. "Can't you see I'm tired? Just leave me out here, go back to the house and leave me alone."
"I am not going to leave you alone JT. Why did you do this?" I ask him, holding him in my arms as I cried.
"I don't deserve to be here with you, just let me go." He tells me as Ashley came running back down the steps.
"We have to get him in the truck. The 911 operator said it would be about 15 minutes before an ambulance could get out here. It'll be better if we drove him ourselves." Ashley spoke, helping us get JT up.
"I bet this is Lance's fault. I'm gonna kick his ass when I find him!" Chris exclaimed as we carried JT up the steps back to the house.
"The operator said we need to do what we can to stop the bleeding. We need to apply as much pressure as needed to stop the bleeding." Ashley spoke.
"Well we will do that. You go get Justin and Nick." Chris spoke as we walked through the house and into the garage.
"I'll sit back here with him, one of you drive." I tell Chris, getting into the backseat with JT, holding his head in my lap as I held his arm in my hand applying pressure to where the cut was.
"What's going on?" Justin asked as he and Nick ran out to the SUV.
"JT has hurt himself. We are taking him to the hospital." Chris spoke. "If you are coming get in or stay here."
"We're coming." Justin spoke, hopping into the truck, getting behind me and JT.
// 2 Hours Later -- Baptist Medical Center //
"Is he alright?" Dan asked walking over to Chris.
"They have stitched up his wrist and admitted him into a room. He's slipping right now." Chris spoke.
"Has anyone been able to reach Lance?" Dan asked.
"Why do you want him to know? From what Chris told us, it's all his fault." Justin spoke.
"He needs to know of his handy work." Dan spoke.
"We can't blame all of this on Lance." Justin spoke.
"No we can't, but we can blame most of it on him. If it wasn't for him and his actions today and last night, none of this probably wouldn't be happening right now." Dan spoke.
"Dan calm down." Ashley spoke, hugging Dan.
"I will not calm down. Because of him, I could have lost JT today. If I hadn't gone out there, he probably would be dead right now." Dan spoke, crying on Ashley's shoulder.
"What else could possibly have JT so upset that he would want to kill himself?" Justin asked.
"He's been stressed lately, ever since...never mind." Chris spoke.
"No baby what?" Ashley spoke.
"Just let it go. I don't think that's the reason for him to be wanting to die." Chris spoke.
"I don't see why he wants to die, hell he has everything. He has money, homes, a good job and lots of friends and now a boyfriend. What possibly could be wrong?" Ashley asked.
"I guess we will have to ask him when he wakes up." Chris spoke.
// A Bad part of town //
--- Lance's POV ---
I hung up on Jake and basically got mad with him all over again. I finished eating my food, paid the check and got up and left. I don't know why I keep putting up with his whiny ass. He whines more and more as the days go by. I am really getting tired of him. I need a drink.
"Hey man, can you tell me where I can find a open bar around here?" I asked the man sitting up against the building.
"What the fuck do I look like to you, the damn phone book or sumthin?" the man spoke, pulling his jacket over his head and turning over.
"Well damn, I just asked a question." I say, walking away from the man. "This place looks horrid. How the hell did I end up here?"
"Hey man, yeah you. You looking for a score?" the strange black man asked me.
"What you got to sell?" I ask him.
"Why don't I take you into my office and show you the goods." The man says, leading me down into the alley.
"I got some quality mary jane here and ..." the man told me.
"I want something heavier than that. I need some coke and like fast." I tell him as he rummaged through his pockets and pulled out a gun. "What the hell are you doing?"
"Making sure you are not five-o." the man stated, pushing me up against the wall and going through my pockets, turning me around and feeling me up.
"Is this necessary man?" I ask him
"Yeah it's necessary, I ain't goin' down for you." He spoke, pulling my wallet out of my pocket and reading my license. "Looks like I got myself a celebrity here. You want the heavy stuff, you are going to have to pay for it."
"How much?" I ask him.
"$250 for a sack." He said.
"What! Are you kidding me? I can probably find a 20 sack for way cheaper man." I tell him.
"Well then you go find that `way cheaper stuff' then. Here." He tells me handing me my wallet back. "When you are tired of looking for what you want, come back and find me."
"Yeah what the fuck ever." I tell him, walking out of the alley as two cops were waiting on me. "Aww fuck."
"What were you doing in that alley?" The first cop asked.
"I was just talking." I tell him, walking past the man.
"Stop right there sir. I need to see some identification." The first cop stated as the second stood there watching.
"See identification for what? I haven't done anything wrong." I tell him as the second cop pulls out his handcuffs and night stick.
"Sir just show me your identification." The first cop says, waiting not making a move to let me pass him again.
"Fine. Here." I say handing the cop my identification.
"Mr. Bass why were you down that alley trying to score a hit off that gentleman?" The first cop asked.
"What are you talking about?" I ask him.
"You just tried to buy drugs off that man right there." The cop explains, pulling out his citation notebook.
"I did no such thing." I tell him.
"Sir don't lie, we heard the whole thing. Come with us Mr. Bass." The first cop says as I take off running down the street, trying to find my car.
