Hell's Call

Part One
It was another long lonely night on the talk radio. Joe Kellor was in the third hour of his syndicated show Weirdwords, looking at the clock every so often as if wishing that it would go quicker. His staff, two technicians and the producer, were all stifling yawns and furtively glancing at the new security camera that had been installed. Their boss, Ken Blanca, had been told that Weirdwords was getting a little sloppy, as if people weren't paying enough attention to their work. This was his way of satisfying the parent network, who satisfied his pocket every week with his six-figure annual salary.
The topic was gender dysfunctions and disorders. Joe had started off with a guest, a pre-operative transsexual who'd popped her gum all through the time allotted and generally acted bored with the whole thing. Her eyes opened up when she received the paycheck the producer had promised her, and she had departed quickly, leaving only the smell of her/his perfume lingering.
Joe, who believed he was fairly tolerant of other people, had listened as the calls streamed in. Some were from other pre- operative transsexuals, looking for information. Some were from post-operative ones, offering comfort and information of all sorts. Still others were from transvestites and/or crossdressers, who simply enjoyed hearing their voices on the radio, and being addressed as women.
And then there were the cranks! People with quotes from the Bible (real or imagined; Joe had once shamed a caller by catching her in a false quote, supposedly calling abortion murder), people with no tolerances for others in the world, and even people who tried to make threats of violence over the air. Joe intercepted as many of these as he could, trying not to let them out over the waves.
He grimaced as he said yet again, "Hi caller, you're on Weirdwords. What do you have to say?"
"Good evening, Joe Kellor. I've called for your help," said the voice. "My name is Delorath. I've come from Hell to ask you a question."
Another crank! Joe sighed as he turned on the seven-second delay. "From Hell?" he asked. "As in the real hot place with the red guy with horns and a tail?"
"You've heard of it, I see. Yes, that's the place. My question is-"
"Wait; before you ask, let's get this Hell thing straight." Joe knew he was being rude, but it was late, and the calls he'd received had really annoyed him. "So...you're what? A demon? A devil? Satan Himself, travelling incognito? I'm sorry, I really would like to know, before I broadcast you over the air, just who and what you are. I mean, this could be a real news scoop! Radio Talkshow Host Interviews The Devil! My career could be made!"
The temperature in the booth suddenly seemed frigid. "Are you doubting me?" Delorath asked in a low, even tone. "Do you really dare to dispute that I am who I say I am, or where I'm from?"
"Oh, no!" Joe exclaimed in mock horror. "Why, I have no doubt in my own mind, but my listeners, they're going to want some proof, you know. Why -"
"PROOF?!" Delorath's voice caused feedback to whine through the station. "You would dare demand proof from ME? Very well! You shall have it! In keeping with the spirit of your show this evening, here is your proof!"
A red bolt of flame shot from the receiver in Joe's hand and engulfed him. The techs and producer stared in horror as he writhed in pain from it, then fell to the floor and was engulfed. The producer immediately turned to the security monitor and flipped to the camera in the booth. The techs tried to open the door to the booth to rescue Joe, but the door wouldn't budge.
Joe's screams continued for a long time. It seemed to the others that his screams were getting higher-pitched. They continued to watch the camera, and realized why.
The flame died and Joe looked down at himself to see he was totally unharmed. Then he looked again and screamed, as he saw the exaggerated breasts, the slim arms, the smooth legs, the tiny feet, and the little clump of red hair between his legs. He reached in wonder behind him and looked at the mane of matching red hair that swept down his back.
The door suddenly popped open and the others rushed in. Absent-mindedly the producer grabbed the microphone, and said a few words about technical difficulties, and threw on the nearest record - a bad choice, as it turned out. The song was "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" from Aerosmith.
Joe was shaking both from the cold air in the room and the shock. Dimly he realized that Delorath was still on the line. He fumbled for the phone with hands that were suddenly too small and put it to his ear.
"Is that enough proof for you?" the demon asked. "I called to ask you a question, very courteously, and received abuse from you. Feel fortunate, mortal. Normally I would have killed you outright, but I still have my question to ask. Now, however, you will do a live remote with me to hear it - or remain in the gorgeous, non-aging, female body you now wear. I trust you'll look for me soon, so I'll save you the time. You will be this way for six months, then I will tell you where to meet me. If you show up, there will be no problems. I will return you to your male self, you will answer my question and apologize to me on the air for doubting my identity, and all will be as it was. Of course, if you don't show up for some strange reason (such as finding that you LIKE this new body), I will have to find you. When I do, I'll take you to Hell with me - in that body - and turn you loose on OUR version of Hooker's Row. You'll beg to die within the week, I guarantee it. Why, some of the most famous whores in history, who were born female, have cracked in less time! How could you, a man now in a woman's body, hope to survive?"
"Think on this well, Joe Kellor. I await you in a month!" And with that, the line went dead.

Part Two
Fortunately for Joe (and the others), the entire show had went out live nationwide, right to where the producer had went to the music. Also, the security camera had recorded the entire process, actually showing Joe changing into a woman.
As he watched it for what seemed to be the millionth time on the television news, Joe shivered. He was at the County Hospital for observation. In the morning, he would begin learning how to be a woman.
He shivered again and pressed the call button. Immediately the nurse was there. All of Joe's nurses were female, by his request. He knew how he looked, and he was absolutely positive that he never wanted to be seen by any male! This body was a walking time bomb for him.
This particular nurse's name was Nancy Kingsworth. She knew the story, of course, as well as anyone else in the world who owned a television. This had been a great pick-me-up for a slow news day! Not only proof that Hell existed (which, by inference, meant that Heaven did too; religion was celebrating a resurgence like never before!), but the first true sex change, recorded and ready for national television!
Nancy shook her head and felt her heart go out again to the poor woman - no, she corrected herself, the poor MAN, sitting in the hospital bed with the underpinnings of his identity pulled away. She instinctively took Joe's hand in hers and said, "What can I do, SIR?"
The little flash of gratitude in his eyes said it all. "I-I just need someone to talk to," he said, and winced at the sound of his words coming out in a husky contralto. "I don't want to be alone."
"All right" she said. "That's one of the things I'm here for. Would you rather go down to the lounge and get out of this room for a bit? There aren't any men on this floor tonight; you're the only patient here, so we juggled the schedule a bit. Tonight you're completely surrounded by other women, so-"
She realized what she'd said as soon as the words left her mouth. Joe turned scarlet red, and Nancy exclaimed, "I'm so sorry, Joe. I'm trying to keep my tenses straight, but it's not easy. You have to remember what you look like now. Please, I'll promise to try my best if you promise to not get upset when I do slip. IF I do, and I'm going to try damn hard to remember that you're a man in there. Okay?"
"Yes. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be such trouble, but -" That was as far as Joe got. His breath hitched, and he began crying harshly, in great braying sobs. Two other nurses came running, but Nancy waved them off before Joe realized that he had an audience. She went to him and put her arms around him, smoothing away the long red hair that had fallen around his shoulders. He stiffened for a moment, then relaxed against her.
The two of them sat like that for almost half an hour, Joe letting out the shock of his transformation and Nancy providing the comfort he needed, just by being there for him. At last he looked up at her, and she thought absently, God, I wish I looked as good after crying like that!
"Are you okay now, Joe?" she asked.
"I-I think so." he replied. "That's the first time I've really cried in at least ten years, I think." As if realizing what he'd just said, he blushed. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to leak all over on you like that."
"Hey, like I said, that's my job." Nancy smiled at him, and he shyly smiled back. Nancy was really glad there weren't any men around; Joe would own them all! The thought made her smile a bit wider. "Come on, let's go down to the lounge. There's a nice view of the city from there, and it's a lot more comfortable than this room!"
Joe was looking distinctly uncomfortable. "Ummm...I need to go to the bathroom first," he said.
"Oh, okay. I'll wait."
He stood there for a minute indecisively, then headed for the bathroom. Suddenly Nancy realized why; this was the first time he'd had to go, as a woman! She said, "Would you like some help in there?"
Now he turned and really smiled at her. As he did so, he caught a look at his new face in the mirror behind her. He was hit again by what had happened, but suddenly it wasn't quite as bad as before. He looked down at himself, seeing again the oversized breasts (Delorath had a sense of humor, obviously; Joe's breasts were 36DD, but they needed absolutely no support at all to stand out pertly on his chest), the slimness, the smoothness between the legs, the tiny feet and hands. He looked again at the mirror, seeing it from his new height of five foot four inches, and made a decision.
"Yes, I would like some help. Not just in here, but for the whole six months. I'm stuck in this body for half a year; I might as well use the time, and I'm going to need a friend while I am one, one who's never seen me as a man. Would you be that friend?"
Nancy was a conscientious nurse; she knew it wasn't a good thing to get involved with a patient. Still, this wasn't a normal situation. Joe's condition was (presumably) very limited, and one hundred eighty days wasn't that long. And he was right; he would definitely need friends out in the world with THAT body! "Sure," she said, and smiled.
