Welcome back to the Nick and Ashley saga...
The Next Generation-Chapter Four
"Ok Mr. Chasez, all you have to do is sign right here on the dotted line and these divorce papers will be filed immediately." A hefty man in a suit said from behind the other side of the desk
"That wasn't very difficult was it?" JC asked with little emotion.
"Well, the papers have already been signed by Mr. Timberlake so both sides are in compliance. The only time it gets dragged out is if one side isn't in agreement." The man said.
"Justin already signed the papers?" JC asked in disbelief.
"Yes sir. He signed them early because he left for Europe early this morning for a tour or something like that." The man said.
JC just shook his head, signed the paper quickly and got up.
"As your legal representation, we'd like to thank you for choosing our firm..." The man started and held out his hand but JC was so dead to the world that he just walked out of the room.
JC walked out of the building and put his arm in the air. Within seconds there was a cab pulled up next to him. He opened the door and got in. After about a 10 minute ride JC threw some money at the driver and got out. He slouched up towards the apartment he now had since he wasn't sharing a house with Justin, threw his keys down on the table and headed into the living room.
He walked over to the phone and saw the green blinking light. He had 2 messages. He hit the play button and leaned against the counter with a sigh. The first message sputtered to life.
"Hello Jayce, this is Justin. I already signed the papers this morning. I'm in London now. I still can't believe you're willing to throw our love away for him. I'm not sure how I'll do it without you but I'm sure I'll manage. Goodbye."
JC just shook his head and hit the delete button.
'Now that I'm gone he needs me' JC thought to himself.
The second message kicked in.
"Hey JC, it's Lance."
JC's eyes and ears propped up. Anger was soon followed by despair and depression again just being reminded of the situation.
"Look I'm sorry that you saw what you saw. Trust me, the last thing on my mind was to hurt you. Please just call me. We have to talk about this."
The messages ended and the machine shut off. JC picked up the phone and headed for the couch. The single apartment seemed so quiet. He was back to being alone. He needed someone. Why couldn't he just find someone who would treat him right? That made him think of Josh. He wasn't sure what was going on with him and Lance but he had to find out.
JC looked at the phone. Before he could push the talk button it rang. JC saw the caller ID and picked up the phone.
"Hey Lance" JC said.
"Oh hey JC, I didn't think you'd be home." Lance said.
"I was just about to call you back." JC said.
"Look Jayce, I really didn't mean for any of what you saw to happen. I've never had feelings for Josh out of respect for you. He tripped and we ended up close to each other and it just happened." Lance said explaining himself.
"Of all the guys in the world Lance, of all the guys. For once in my life I felt sure about something and I came back to tell him that and I find him with you." JC said out loud now.
"I know Jayce, I know and I'm sorry." Lance said.
"Do you have feelings for him?" JC asked.
"I can't say that I haven't been thinking about that kiss. I really haven't had that same feeling since Trevor but there's no way I'm gonna act on it. I was the one that practically set you and Josh back up. It's gonna be hard but I'll forget about him." Lance said.
"I guess that'll have to do then." JC said as he hung up the phone.
It wasn't how he wanted to go back about his life but it was the best he could do. Life wasn't exactly a friend to JC lately. Actually, since that night he cheated on Josh was the beginning of his downfall. What was it about this guy that was so special? All JC knew was that he was happiest when he was with him. His marriage with Justin was cut off now and JC was determined to get his life back in gear. If he couldn't then there wasn't much more he could think of doing.
Some bad thought had been running through his head lately about life. He would sit out on his balcony sitting on the ledge just staring out into the night. He felt like a zombie, like if he just jumped everything would feel better and all this pain would be gone. It usually ended up with him crawling down and collapsing into a tearful ball on the floor. JC needed something to take his mind off of all this and Josh might be just what the doctor ordered.
JC grabbed his keys where he had thrown them when he entered and headed for his jeep. He drove down the road, in and out of turns until he got towards his destination. He pulled into the parking lot and next to the only other car in the lot. He had a feeling he would be here.
He got out of the car and looked up at the sky. Something drew his eyes upward. The stars were amazingly bright tonight. It was the clearest of nights and every constellation could be seen perfectly. He shook it off and walked inside. He crept through the dark hallways leading him towards the only light that was on in the J Records building.
He peaked his head into the doors and saw Josh on stage. JC stayed in the shadows in the back of the room and watched his ex-boyfriend. It all seemed so ironic. Josh was on stage practicing his moves, all by himself. It was moves he had rehearsed a thousand times and he knew them in his sleep but it was obviously taking his mind off of other stuff. JC remembered back to the night where he was doing the same thing. It was the night he met Josh and they kissed for the first time.
A smile came to JC's face. It was the first smile in a very long time. He knew what he had to do. He needed this man in his life. This was the only one that was ever right for him. He walked into the light off to the side and Josh didn't seem to notice him.
"You still got it Josh" JC said out loud.
Josh jumped as he seemed to be knocked out of his trance. He practically fell over but regained his composure with his hand over his heart. He realized who it was and sighed. He walked over to his chair and grabbed a bottle of water and started drinking it. He put the cap back on and looked over at JC.
"I didn't think anyone else was in here." Josh said.
"Kinda familiar huh?" JC asked with a smile.
"What are you doing here JC?" Josh asked.
JC walked up on stage in front of him.
"I've been thinking a lot since..." JC said but was cut off.
"Since you saw me kissing Lance." Josh said.
JC inched closer and closer to a man he used to share love with. Josh didn't back away though.
"Yeah. It made me realize exactly how much I miss you." JC said heartfelt.
"Well what happened with me and Lance was an accident and truthfully I've never even thought of Lance like that." Josh said.
"I know." JC said inching even closer.
Josh saw what he was doing and began to breathe heavier.
"JC, you really hurt me." Josh said weakly.
"I'm sorry." JC whispered as he continued to inch forward.
Josh looked down now at the floor. After all these years he thought he had put JC out of his head but this strange occurrence of events was leading him back.
"It's been so long." Josh said with very little conviction.
"We could make it work." JC said as he stopped moving, now just inches away from Josh.
A tear fell from Josh's eye. He felt a hand under his chin and it pulled his face up to meet his former lover. It revealed that JC had a tear in his eye as well. Josh broke down and fell into JC's arms. There was a lot of previous bad blood between these two but both of them knew that they were better off with each other. They were willing to look past the 16 years of heartbreak and try and put it back together. After all, love deserves a second chance.
Even more ironically enough, a second set of green eyes stood in the back of the room watching what happened. He couldn't get the kiss out of his mind. He knew that he was too close to JC and didn't wanna ruin anything. He also told JC that he didn't have feelings for Josh but Lance was starting to reconsider that.
"That's great Ryan, I'll tell Johnny right away. Ok bye." Ashley said as he hung up the cordless phone and threw it on the couch. The smile on his face might as well have been permanently planted there because he was about to tell his son some great news. He walked into the living room and stood at the bottom of the stairs.
"Johnny." Ashley called out.
He heard some footsteps and then the opening of a door and he saw his son emerge, his fair skin standing out slightly in the darkness of the hallway.
"Yeah Dad?" Johnny asked.
"Can you come down here I've got some news for you." Ashley said.
"Yeah sure." Johnny said as he made his way down the stairs and took a seat on the couch next to his dad.
"That was Ryan on the phone, the manager that Lance and Trevor assigned to you guys. You met him right?" Ashley said
"Yeah he's a cool guy. He's supposed to try and set up some stuff for us to see if we're the real deal before we sign to J records." Johnny said.
"Well, you guys have a photo shoot on Friday and there's gonna be a lot of media there. He also said that after that you guys are gonna take a limo over to a recording studio and do some accapella and if you guys are good and the media reception is well received then they want to sign you." Ashley said all in one breath.
Johnny just looked at his adopted father in awe. He wasn't sure what to do. He was so wrapped up in emotion. It all hit him at once and embraced Ashley tightly. He returned the hug ten fold. This was a son that was given to him as a gift from his long lost brother but he also looked at him as his own. He never doubted that.
Johnny pulled out of the hug crying.
"We're all proud of you guys. You're following your dreams. I guess it runs in the family." Ashley said.
"Yeah, turning out just like you." Johnny said.
"I meant your father." Ashley said softly.
Johnny just looked at Ashley with pride.
"Do you think he can see this?" Johnny asked.
"I can guarantee it. He's proud of you John." Ashley said.
Another tear fell from Johnny's eye.
"Thanks Dad. I gotta go tell the guys." Johnny said as he gave him another hug and then ran upstairs.
The next day in school things were really hectic. The hallways seemed extra crowded and to Johnny Carter, life seemed to be moving backwards. He couldn't wait until the end of this week. He would have a chance to show off everything he'd been dreaming about for so long. He knew that him and his friends were good singers and Sean and Josh leading the way with dancing, they really had a chance.
"Dude, I can't wait for this week to be over." Johnny said.
"I hear that." Sean said grabbing some books out of his locker.
"I still gotta tell Cody the good news. I think he went to bed early last night. Have you seen him yet?" Johnny asked looking up and down the hallway.
He received no answer. He turned around and saw Sean faced the other way staring at a girl that passed by in a short skirt. Johnny just slapped him on the head.
"Oh sorry." Sean said running his hand through his light brown hair that fell over his face.
"You didn't even hear a word I said." Johnny said with a laugh.
"Nah I heard you. Cody is at his locker." Sean said.
Johnny turned around and sure enough Cody was putting books in the top shelf of his locker.
"Alright thanks man I'll talk to you later." Johnny said receiving no answer again. He turned back around and saw Sean chasing after the girl. Johnny just laughed and made his way over to his boyfriend.
"Hey Cody I got some news for you." Johnny said as Cody's face lit up with a smile when he saw John.
"Oh yeah what is it?" Cody asked.
Johnny started to talk but was cut off by someone.
"Hey Johnny Carter, how are you today?" A girl asked as she walked in between the two boys.
"Hey Amanda." Johnny said, knowing that this girl had been chasing after him for weeks. If she only knew.
Cody closed his locker and walked away. He threw open the door and walked outside the school near the picnic tables. Johnny saw this and didn't know what to do or what was wrong for that matter.
"What's his problem today?" Amanda asked.
"I'm not sure." Johnny said still looking at the door.
"He's so weird. So anyway are you gonna pick me up on Saturday night?" Amanda asked.
"What did you call him?" Johnny asked looking down at the girl finally.
"Weird. Why?" Amanda said.
"Don't ever call him that again." Johnny said as he headed for the door, leaving the girl there in shock.
Johnny walked thru the small hallway that led outside and pushed the door open. He saw Cody sitting on top of one of the picnic tables that were usually there for people that wanted to eat lunch outside, his feet on the lower section where you usually sit.
Johnny walked slowly up to the table and sat down next to him.
"Something wrong bud?" Johnny asked
"Everything is wrong." Cody said as he threw his hands up in the air.
Johnny just laughed.
"What's so funny?" Cody asked
"Look at you. All of the sudden you're so dramatic." Johnny said.
Cody just sighed and looked down. Johnny put his arm around his shoulder.
"Come on what's wrong." Johnny asked.
"I get so jealous when I see all these girls hit on you." Cody said.
"Cody, you know that I'm yours. I know it's tough that we can't hold hands in the hallway or show affection in public but I can always make it up to you when we're not being watched." Johnny said.
"That's the best I'm gonna get huh?" Cody asked.
"Our dads warned us about this. No matter what all you need to know is that I love you." Johnny said.
"That makes me feel better." Cody said with a smile on his face.
"Good, now maybe I can finally tell you that good news I had for you before." Johnny said with a smile as Cody listened intentively.
