Chapter 1
"Oh, Kayla's going to kill me," I moaned as I looked around the kitchen, now covered in melon pieces and juice. "It's going to be slow and painful." I heard the back door of the laundry room open and Kayla's voice float into the kitchen.
"I'm back, they didn't have any Cinnamon so I had to." her speech came to a halt as she saw the kitchen. I could her face start to get an angry expression as she glanced around everywhere until her eyes came to rest on me. It looked like a vein could pop at any moment.
"Oops?" I said in a cute voice with a silly grin. Her eyes narrowed as she let out a growl. "It's not my fault, it was an accident! I can't help if I haven't gotten a hang of this power yet," I said in my defense. Molecular Combustion is a difficult power when it's triggers the same way as Temporal Stasis. Kayla closed her eyes and took a deep breath before she smiled slightly.
"Don't worry; we'll have Dan take care of it. DAN!" she suddenly yelled, causing me to jump slightly. Dan shimmered into the kitchen. It was his form of teleportation.
"What's that prob-whow.demon?" he asked, looking around the kitchen. Kayla shook her head as she put her hands on her hips.
"Worse, Teal Matthews." Dan turned and laughed at me. I rolled my eyes.
"First the computer, now fruit, next, Kayla's car." Kayla reached out and slapped Dan on the arm.
"That's not funny! Could you take care of the melon please?" Dan sighed before putting his hand over the spot where a once whole melon sat. Slowly, all the pieces and juices of the melon came back together, making it whole again.
"If there's anything else the Banshee requires, do bellow," Dan said in an English accent and slight bow. He shimmered away before Kayla could hit him again.
"Why are men so difficult to live with? You're gay and keep clean and neat yet your room looks like the Goddess of Wind swept through without mercy," she complained. I just shrugged my shoulders before leaving the kitchen and heading through the dining room into the conservatory.
"You try to talk to a man, and they just walk away. I swear, one of these days, POW! Right in the kisser.or a little below the belt line, that might make them understand, that is, after they're done singing opera," Kayla mumbled as she followed me. I was levitating 2 feet off the floor, watering a hanging plant. "I was thinking about hanging out at the club tonight, wanna come?" I continued to pour water into the hanging plant.
"I don't know, last few times we went, demons decided they wanted to party too," I said, levitating back to the floor and walking under another hanging plant before levitating up to water it.
"Oh come on, the 3 of us haven't hung out in a long time. Besides, might meet a cute guy who wants to take you home with him," Kayla pushed.
"Yes, then we'll have sex and he'll move onto the next person. I'm not having sex for a one night stand. Call me an old fashion girl, but I'm saving it for Mr. Right," I told her as I levitated back to the floor and refilled the water canister.
"I think a good lay would be good for you with how uptight and proper you are. You just need to loosen up is all." Kayla paused in thought. "Ewww, that came out wrong with some disturbing mental images."
"Well; it serves you right," I said as I levitated to water the next plant. There was some loud footsteps from the living room as Dan came bounding down the stairs like always.
"So, is Teal coming with us tonight?" Dan asked as he stepped into the conservatory.
"I don't know, I'm trying to talk him into it," Kayla said as she sighed.
"I say we bound and gag him, and then tie him to a chair once we get there." I glanced at Dan with a `very funny' look. "There is this spell in the book that when you write down the traits you want in a significant other, it helps to attract those kinds of people to you." I sighed as I levitated back to the floor.
"Fine, I'll go, geez, talk about roommate invasion," I mumbled with a silly grin on my face. Kayla clapped her hands together and smiled.
"Great, I'm going to go get ready." She left and I heard her head up the stairs.
"God only knows it takes woman 5 hours to get ready just to simply hang out and she complains about us men," I joked with Dan.
"So why aren't you getting ready? You won't time to look through your whole closet and do you hair if you don't start now." I turned to throw the water from the canister onto Dan but he shimmered away.
"Smart ass," I said with a grin as I finished watering the plants.
I liked the 86 Club. It was a decent club and not a trashy one. It has a dance floor, bar, and cushy seating areas. I kind of club you could take your parents too, but as if anyone would do that. I sat laid back on the comfy couch, twirling my finger through the light purple dyed ends of my two toned hair. My natural hair color was a nice blonde that went to the, what you could call, bra line of my chest, with the past the shoulders and on down slowly turning into purple. Long hair went great with my slim, oval face. I also loved me shocking, electric, ice blue eyes. For what to wear, I choose a white, button up shirt with three quarter, rolled up look sleeves and dark, form fitting jeans. The shirt was tight that it felt like a second skin and the bottom buttons were left open to show me blue and green butterfly, belly button ring that danged on a silver chain about half an inch down over my belly button.
Kayla and Dan had already gone off to dance and mingle. I reminded on the couch, ready to just leave head back home. I preferred the simple peace and quiet then the chatter and music of a club. I sighed and let myself sink further into the comfy cushions of the couch and closed my eyes for a second, trying to block out the noise of the club.
"Excuse me." I opened to see the true vision of tall dark and handsome. Black hair slicked back, black eyes, dark tan, black, long sleeve shirt, dark jeans and black shoes. He also had short stubble and all together, he looked like the guy you didn't bring home to your parents. "Is this seat taken?" I stared at him for a minute before gaining control of my body and voice again.
"No, no, it's open," I said, sitting up and scooting over so he could sit. He was very tall, at least half a foot taller then me, and more built, with large muscled that gave him a thick body like Arnold Swarchenegger. He sat and I could feel the couch cushions dip as he did. I crossed my left leg over my right and placed my right elbow on the arm of the couch and rested my head in my hand. I used my left hand to pull my long hair around over my left shoulder.
"I like your hair." I turned to see Mr. Perfect looking at my hair. "It suits you and your eyes really well, and your belly button ring suits your eyes, and your flat stomach." I didn't' realized how deep and manly his voice was. I blushed and ducked my head with a smile. He laughed lightly. "A shy one and I see I'm embarrassed you," he said.
"No, no, you didn't embarrass me; I'm just painfully shy around new people you could say," I said, feeling the warm in my cheeks from my blush. He laughed again.
"You're cute when you blush," he said softly. I turned my head and looked at him in the eyes. Our eyes stayed locked, a whole conversation seeming to be said in the few seconds our eyes were locked together.
"There you are! Oh, you have company." I tore my eyes away from Mr. Perfect and looked to see Kayla and Dan standing there. I wonder how long they had been standing before playing `we just got here and saw what was happening'.
"Oh, hey guys, this is.uh." I looked at tall, dark, and handsome and with embarrassed look on my look. I didn't know his name yet and I was trying to introduce him. He stood and extended his hand.
"Zarek." Ohhh, nice name, had a ring to it that suited him. He shook both Kayla and Dan's hands. I was staring at him before I came to me sense to introduce myself and friends.
"I'm Teal, and this is Dan and Kayla," I said, pointing to them when I said their names then felt more embarrassed knowing Zarek could've figured that out himself.
"Well, we just came over to tell you about." Kayla started to speak as she took my hand when she straightened and had a lost look on her face. I knew that face and so did Dan. When she came back too, I quickly smiled and started to come up with an excuse.
"Uh.um.excuse us Zarek, where going to just.um.getting something for Kayla here." The three of us quickly fast walked to a quiet corner away from the crowd. "So, what did you see?"
"I'm, not sure. It wasn't very clear, but it seemed like a ritual or something. There were chanting voices and what looked like two people together at an altar with someone behind the altar, like a twisted wedding or something," she told us. Dan's face became serious.
"We should head home and look into this. It might be something important." I nodded my head before remembering Zarek.
"I'll just be a second, wait here." I found my way back to Zarek and found him still in the same spot. I smiled as I stepped up to him. "Hey, sorry, but I got to go. My friend doesn't feel to well."
"That's alright. Here let me give you my card, for later if you want." He reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a business card and handed it to me. I took and glanced over before looking at him in the eyes and smiling.
"Thanks, maybe we could get together sometime." We said our goodbyes and headed back over to Dan and Kayla. We all took hands and Dan shimmered us home.
Meanwhile, Zarek headed into the bathroom of club. He waved his hand and a beautiful Chinese woman in a black and red Qi Pao appeared. "Is he the one?" was all she said in an all knowing voice.
"Yes. We might run into complications with the friends but I don't think they'll pose a big problem." The Chinese woman nodded.
"I'll inform the Dark Priest then," she said before she disappears in a shimmery light which outlined her body and then she was gone. Zarek himself then disappeared in a large flame.
We sat in the parlor room looking through occult books. I tapped away at my laptop, my hair pulled into a pony tail with pieces of hair hanging loose around me face and wearing small frame glasses. "I'm not finding anything here about a ritual like a wedding or anything. Just the usual sacrifice' and bring to power' stuff," I said as I closed my laptop and removed my glasses and held them in my hand. Kayla closed and sat down the old, dusty book she had.
"I don't know, it might even be anything," she said as she dropped the book on the coffee table and sat back and let out a long sigh. I stood and yawned.
"Well, we can check it out in the morning, I feel like going to bed." Dan closed his book and stood, following me up the stairs with Kayla following shortly after. I loved my room with its two closets, wardrobe, dresser, fireplace with two chair, bay window section which I used for my vanity mirror, door to my bathroom, and four poster bed with silk sheets, pillow cases, and curtains. I did my bathroom duties and let myself fall naked onto the cool sheets. I switched off the lamp on the nightstand and pulled the covers over myself. As I drifted off to sleep, it never occurred to me that Kayla's vision was connected with me because she touched me when she had it.
I awoke slowly in the morning. I knew I was awake, but I let myself continue to sleep before my bladder said otherwise. Climbing out of bed, I padded into my bathroom and closed the door before using the toilet. I brushed my teeth and hair before walking back into my bedroom and opening my wardrobe and looking for what I wanted to wear. I choose a tight pair of black track pants and a baby blue, form fitting, zip up, long sleeve shirt with a turtle neck. I ran my hands through my long hair, pulling most of it to hang over my right shoulder. I looked at the light purple tips. No split ends, that was good. As I entered the kitchen, I wished I hadn't.
"Did someone forget about their potions quiz today?" Kayla asked with a mock glare. I moaned and groaned as I joined her at the kitchen island and set my hands on the table. "Okay, today, I want you to make a stun potion," she told me. I sat a small pot on the burner and turned the temperature on low. Picking up various ingredients, I placed them in the pot. I yawned as I added sage leaves and slowly started to stir the ingredients together. Picking up a pinch of pixie dust, I tossed into the pot and big puff of smoke with a BANG escaped. I smiled that I had done it and Kayla smiled and nodded her head. She handed me a small potion bottle and I filled it with the white liquid.
"So, do I have to test it to make sure it works?" I asked, looking at Kayla.
"Yes, of course." I nodded before dropping the potion on the ground next to her, causing her to become frozen in place.
"Look, it works, I'm going to go get an melted chocolate with whip cream latt‚," I said as I left through the back door and climbed into my a lime green beetle car and headed off to the Espresso Pump.
