"Not what I thought escape meant" Chapter 107

The next morning was hectic in Georgia. As the men cleaned the house and made sure they had the last of their luggage ready to load, Max stood in the kitchen and chuckled to himself as Zeb washed his coffee cup. "What are you smiling about ?" Zeb asked. "Nothing my friend. Just looking at Joe's territory markings on your neck." Max said. "Well I am not going to show you the more private marks." Zeb laughed. "What are you two talking about ?" Joe said as he entered with his coffee cup. "Just admiring your art work is all." Max said. "Yeah I guess this southern hospitality inspired me." Joe laughed. "What happen to you neck Unca Zeb ?" Shawn asked as he pulled Carl into the kitchen. "Your Uncle Joe." Zeb laughed. Shawn let go of Carl's hand and walked over and balled his fist up at Joe. "You better not hurt my Unca Zeb no more. I watchin' you buddy." Shawn said and shook his fist. "Oh you are , are you ?" Joe said before scooping the child up and tickling him before Shawn could get away.

"I wish we had more time to properly clean the house." Artie said as he put the last of the luggage by the door. "We have someone coming to clean the house from top to bottom and change all the beds so it will be fine." Brian said. "It must have been great to be a child and grow up in this house and on this property." Artie said. "It was. This house along with Uncle Max's house were my sanctuary.

My Grandparents made every visit a special one. There were times that I may have been left here for a week but they made every day special." Brian said. "I can see why you want to keep this house." Artie said. "This house will be the twins one day. I just hate that they won't have the same memories as I do." Brian said. "I am sure they are making the same memories at Uncle Carl and Uncle Max's that I have here. The only difference is that I don't think I was as hard to get back in line after a visit here as those two after staying with the Uncles." Brian laughed. "Don't you even go there. You were a pill after just one day with Mom and Dad. I should know." Max said as he walked up and put his arm around Brian's shoulder. "I couldn't have been that bad." Brian laughed. "Whatever." Max laughed.

The van was loaded and Mitch rode with the first group so that he could do the preflight check of the plane and get it loaded. Max stood in the edge of the family room with his hand against one of the marble columns. "What are you thinking ?" Carl said as he came up behind Max and lay his chin on Max's shoulder. "Just taking in one last view and storing the memories." Max said. "We will be back." Carl said. "Maybe so and maybe not. I realized that I have the life and memories I need back at the ranch." Max said. "Baby these are good memories. Never let them go. We will be back many times. This is not our last visit." Carl said. "My Mom would have loved you." Max whispered. "Who wouldn't love a sexy cowboy like me ?" Carl said. "Alright, time to go before it gets too deep here." Max laughed. "What ? Did I say something wrong ?" Carl laughed.

The plane trip seemed quicker with additional people on the return trip. As usual the twins were the inflight entertainment. Every time Shawn would get near Zeb he would stop and look at all the marks on his neck, turn and shake his finger at Joe and run. "What is that all about ?" Ty asked. "Your son got all over Joe's case for putting those marks on Zeb's neck." Max laughed. "He would really be upset if he noticed how difficult it is for Uncle Zeb to walk today much less watching his try to sit." Ty laughed. "I didn't notice. Zeb did say that he needed to bring Joe to Georgia more often." Max laughed. "I think he will need a week to get over this trip to Georgia with Uncle Joe." Ty said laughing.

Max breathed a sigh of relief as he saw the snow caped mountain tops out the plane window on their final approach to the airport. It took all the control the twins had to stay buckled in their seats because Mitch had announced that the ranch and surrounding areas had received two inches of fresh snow over night. As the plane descended the twins could see snow flakes falling outside the planes cabin.

Max and Carl stopped at the ranch house to collect their packages before they went home. Kevin was in the front room showing Max how they had organized different sections for each family. "You only have about another week and then you can move back home. You don't know how much we appreciate you staying here and handling this." Max said. Carl was out standing just inside the barn door chatting with Austin.

Carl walked across the fresh snow to the ranch house. "Damn Kevin it looks like you have definitely been busy." Carl said looking at the stacks of packages. "Hasn't been bad boss." Kevin said. "I guess you will be glad to get back in your bed." Carl said with a grin. "Guess so." Kevin said looking down at the floor. "I expect you to bring your new bo, the FedEx guy, to the Christmas party." Carl said. "Uh.. how..?" Kevin started. "Just because I was in Georgia doesn't mean I don't know what happens on the ranch." Carl said. "Sorry." Kevin said. "Sorry about what ? If you are happy then we are thrilled. Make sure you bring him to the party so we can meet him." Carl said. "If you think it's alright I would love to invite him." Kevin said. Max still stood with a confused look on his face. "This is Rexlan ranch and we are the Rexlan's. Can't get any better approval than that. I just want to make sure he is an up standing guy." Carl said. "He is. I promise." Kevin said. "Then we expect to be introduced to him at the party Saturday then." Carl said. "Yes Boss." Kevin said and smiled.

"What was that all about ?" Max said as they got into Carl's truck. "Seems like the FedEx guy has been delivering more than just packages to Kevin." Carl said. "And how would you know that? We have been back less than an hour." Max said. "I told you I know what goes on this ranch even when I am away." Carl said and grinned. "Tell the truth. I am usually the one that has to point out these type issues to you." Max said. "I have my spies." Carl said. Max just looked across the truck at Carl with a serious look. "Alright, alright. Austin caught them in the bed in the ranch house last night." Carl said. "I knew someone had to have spilled the beans. No wonder Kevin looked so embarrassed." Max said. "Don't say anything because Kevin doesn't know that Austin caught them." Carl said. "Don't worry. Too much drama for me so just take me home stud." Max said. "Ah my baby must be getting horny thinking about Kevin and the FedEx guy." Carl said. "No your honey is thinking about the oversized tub full of hot water at home." Max laughed.

Carl pulled out of the drive of the ranch house and headed to the drive of their house. Max spotted the sign near the road further down for the new horse arena. "What is that ?" He asked. Carl drove further instead of turning in their drive and turned into the temporary drive of the arena. As they pulled up there were a number of vehicles outside the main building entrance. "Oh my Lord." Carl whispered as they opened the door. From the door they could hear Mary, B and Flo trying to over talk each other about what needed to be done. "Sounds like we should have taken you to Georgia with us." Carl said as he bro hugged Daryl. "It's about time you two came back home." B said placing his hands on his hips. "You need to do something about this fruit cake." Flo said. "Who me ?" Max said. "Well honey I ain't asking for volunteers, Yes you." Flo said. "Which fruit cake do I start with first ?" Carl said. "I hear that." B said. "You are on your own now." Max laughed.

The group passed light hearted insults for a couple of minutes. "Why are you all over here ?" Max asked. "We decided to have the Christmas party here instead of the ranch house." Mary said. "But it's not finished." Max said. "The HVAC is done. The wall partitions will not be here until after the first so it's no big deal." Daryl said. "It's just an unfinished concrete floor." Carl said. "You have something against concrete sonny ?" Flo asked. "I have no problem with it. We do need to get some Christmas decorations though." Max said. "I can take down my tree and bring it over here." Flo said. "Your tree ?" Carl asked. "Since I bought that house I had to have a new tree. It's a twelve foot tall silver tree with all blue ornaments. It's a work of art." Flo said. "Silver with blue ?" B gasp. "Yes. You have a problem with that ?" Flo said and popped her gum. "Not as long as I am wearing a blind fold." B said. "It sounds nice Flo." Mary said. "Honey you have two full grown gay brothers. Somewhere deep down you know that what she just described would be hideous." B said. "No worse than them stretch pants you got stretched over that old wrinkled ass." Flo said. "I have you know these are the style." B said standing straight and opening his arms. "Somebody suckered you out of some good money." Flo laughed.

Carl and Max walked around the building looking at the progress while B and Flo tried to out insult the other. "Is this going to cause you an issue ?" Max asked. "It won't be a problem. My guys are more or less done in here until the partitions get here. We are working on the indoor arena area." Daryl said. "What is that with the sign. I want to go look." Carl said. "OH no you don't." Came a shout from B across the room. "Damn. Those tight stretch pants didn't mess with his hearing." Carl said. "I heard that. You can see the sign Saturday. It's a surprise." B said. "You just told the wrong one that. Every year we knew what we were getting for Christmas because Carl would tear the house apart to find all the hidden gifts." Mary laughed.

"I bet he will leave this alone." B said. "I have my ways." Carl said. "I guess I need to glue myself to you until Saturday then. That means showers, bed, wherever you go I go." B said. "I would at least get to take a crap alone." Carl said. "Nope. That bathroom has a window so I will just put a clothes pin on my nose." B said. "Is he serious ? " Carl asked. "I guess I will see him at home Saturday night." Durk laughed. "You win." Carl said. "I always do." B said. "I guess if you are going to wear britches like that you need to win something." Flo said. "Straighten your wig honey. I think it slid." B said. "You guys work it out. Just tell me what to bring, I am headed home." Max said grabbing Carl's arm and pulling him to the door.

"What in the world are you doing Artie?" Mitch asked as he came back into the living room from putting the baby down for a nap. "All of these decorations are cheap dime store decorations." Artie said as he would pull decorations from the tree and try to rearrange them. "Baby the tree is beautiful." Mitch said. "It was but what do I do with these ?" Artie said turning with the box of ornaments that Max and Brian had given them. "You find a place to put them on the tree." Mitch said with a laugh. "But everything else is so cheap on here." Artie said. Mitch walked over and wrapped his arms around Artie. Turning him back to face the tree he began to point out ornaments. Artie began to remember where some came from and what they meant to them both. There were a few that had been a consolidation of their decorations when they moved in together. "When we take the tree down we can separate the ones with no meaning from the ones to keep. We will do as we use to and look for ones that mean something to us." Mitch said. "You will do that ?" Artie asked. "If that's what my two babies want then we will make it happen." Mitch said leaning over to kiss Artie's cheek.

Saturday came faster than expected. Max had wanted to have the party for the ranch on Christmas Eve but realized that could conflict with some of the group's plans. The Saturday before Christmas seemed to work for everyone. The rush on the ranch house to get packages was almost complete and also the raid on the food stores. Max hurried around the kitchen preparing the dishes that he was talking. He and Carl had offered to have it catered but everyone said they had rather do covered dish so they could each prepare their own favorites.

"You are NOT going to be pleased with this. Just remember that you love me." Carl said. "What are you talking about ?" Max laughed. "You wanted me to wrap these gifts. Why didn't you just buy bags ?" Carl laughed. "It can't be that bad." Max laughed. "We have plenty of trash bags don't we ?" Carl asked. "There is not that much. You should not need a trash bag." Max said. "Hell the trash bag is to put the gift in. Put it in there, tape it shut and put a bow on it." Carl said. Max looked around into the dining room to see Carl standing naked by the table holding a piece of wrapping paper. He would lay it down on top of the gift and then bend down to look at it to see if it looked like enough paper for the gift. "You can't have trash bags." Max laughed. From the kitchen he could hear Carl's growls and frustration.

"Tell me again why the nephews and the twins get a gift today. We have the ones for the names we drew.." Carl called out. "Because I did not know until after the drawing that their names were not included. Plus we invited Mrs. Turner and her two kids so I will not have someone there without a gift." Max said. "Have I said I love you today ?" Carl called out. "Not that I can remember." Max laughed. "Well I do. Oh and I don't want to write FedEx guy on this package. Who can I call to get his name ?" Carl called out. "His name is Mark." Max called back. "How do you know ?" Carl asked. "I have better spies than you." Max laughed.

B sat in the corner with his arms and legs crossed. The tables were all set up with the linens on them but everyone wanted to do a buffet style meal so his vision of placing the plates and the silver wear were dashed. Landon walked over to where B sat and took a chair next to him. "I think those ladies are going hurt each other in the back about the table decorations." Landon said. B jumped to his feet. "Just put it down. Do not touch those decorations. I can only handle so much of this thrift store Christmas. I can at least know that the decorations are perfect." B called out as he headed across the large room to where the table decorations were. "Thank You." Durk said and walked up and kissed Landon on the top of his head. "Well he looked so sad." Landon said. "B always wants perfection. He thinks this should look like it's some grand ballroom for today. He will be happy getting to do the table decorations." Durk said with a smile.

The twins sat patiently watching the Christmas tree with all the presents around it. "What are you two up to ?" Carl asked. Both boys go up quickly and found a leg on Carl to wrap their arms around. "You fink there is a pwesent wif my name on it ?" Shane said barely loud enough to hear. "Baby I am sure there is one with your name on it." Carl said. "Me too ?" Shawn asked looking up at Carl with a worried look. "You two little man. Now go play until time to eat. I promise the presents aren't going anywhere." Carl said.

"Ohhh fuuuuuucccccckkkkkkkk" Joe growled as his cock flexed inside of Zeb trying desperately to find more seed to spray. Joe lay part of his weight down on Zeb as he tried to catch his breath. "Damn baby that was intense." Zeb whispered trying to catch his breath from his own orgasm. "Well when I saw you in the shower with all that soap all over you I just had to have me some to tie me over until tonight. " Joe whispered and then kissed Zeb's neck. "Well I guess I need to soap up again plus you need a shower. We are running late." Zeb said. "No hurry. They don't need our help. Besides I want to be able to look at that ass in your jeans this evening and know that I have some of my seed floating around in there waiting on it's cousins to visit." Joe whispered. "Don't worry love, they will be eagerly waiting for visitors." Zeb said.

Everyone had arrived except Joe and Zeb. Ross and Mitch made jokes as to their suspicions of the delay. Daryl left the group and walked into a back room that had been partitioned. "You girls comfortable?" Daryl asked. "Yes Uncle Daryl." One girl said. "I just wanted to talk to you for a minute before your Dad gets here. You know he has a partner now don't you ?" Daryl asked. "Some guy named Zeb. Aunt Mary warned us." one girl said. "Warned you ? I hope she made it plain and simple that we expect you two to act like proper young ladies." Daryl said. "We will see." one said. "Come here and let me show you something. You see that man standing over by that table ?" Daryl asked. "Yes sir. That's Uncle Carl's boyfriend, Max." one said. "No that's your Uncle Carl's husband Max, so he is your Uncle Max. He and your father had a rough start. I credit him for your step Mom leaving. It took some work but your father has a special place in your Uncle Max's heart and so does Zeb. I will guarantee you that if you cause a problem you will regret it because your Uncle Carl stands behind him one hundred percent and it will not be pretty." Daryl said.

"What are you guys talking about ? Come give your Uncle Carl a hug." Carl said as he stepped into the room. "Nothing important. Just reminding the girls they need to tread light if they plan to insult their Dad or Zeb." Daryl said. "Oh my sweet nieces would not dare. They are grown young women and I think they both realize the importance of family. Besides any harsh comments or making Zeb feel unwelcome and they will be walking back to their Mom's." Carl said with a smile. "Sorry Uncle Carl but you can't tell us how to feel." one said. "Not telling you how to feel I am just telling you how to act. The last time I have seen your father this happy was the day each of you were born. Zeb loves your father and wants nothing from him but his love. Do me a favor for all the money I have sent you over the years and be open minded and give Zeb a chance. I really think you will love him as much as we do." Carl said. "We will see." one said. "I told them that they did not want to cross their Uncle Max." Daryl said. "Shit no. That man will love you and spoil you to death but you cross him girls and you are on your own. Now one more hug before your Dad and Zeb get here." Carl said hugging each girl tight.

Everyone had finally arrived. "May I have your attention please ? First I would like to thank everyone for coming tonight. This might not be quite as cozy as the farm house but I was told this is what everyone wanted. Max and I would like to wish everyone here a safe and blessed Christmas and New Years holiday season. I am not going to make a long speech because all the ladies here, and some of the men, will hurt me if the food gets cold. I had a special request from two little ranchers to say the evening blessing over the food so without further delay I would like to ask Shane and Shawn to come up and give the blessing. After that everyone please enjoy." Carl said.

The twins stood up front with the Rexlan family and began to whisper. "Start over guys. Do you see Grandpa Durk back in the corner ?" Max asked. "Uh huh." They both said. Well you have to sing loud enough for him to hear you. Starting again it was at the top of their lungs. "Thank you fadder, Thank You fadder, for our food, for our food, many, many blessings, many, many blessing Ah man, Ah man." Was their song. "Amen." came a loud roar before applause and laughter. "I think he heard me." Shane said and smiled. "Buddy I think the whole state heard you." Carl laughed.

Daryl and Mary stepped up before everyone headed to the buffet. "We won't hold you but just a minute. We have some special guests here today. Some of you have already met them but most of you have not. This is one Christmas gift for you big brother. I would like to introduce you all to my beautiful nieces, Amanda and Ashley Rexlan." Mary said. Joe spun around looking all over the room frantically for his daughters. As they walked out from the room into the main area Joe grabbed Zeb's arm and almost ran to his daughters. Joe's heart was pounding and Zeb's heart had stopped.

The greeting was cordial and everyone prepared their plates. Max had not been let in on the secret of the girls coming so he kept a close eye on both girls and Zeb. The meal was divine and everyone sat and chatted. The twins had gotten restless knowing there were presents under the tree. The oldest farm hand sat rocking McKenzie as she had her own bottled dinner.

"Are you alright buddy ?" Max asked as he placed his hand on Zeb's shoulder. "I think so. Just in a little bit of shock is all." Zeb said. "I watched you I don't think you ate a thing." Max said. "I knew the day would come that I would meet Joe's daughters but I am so scared. I don't want to cause any problems for him and if they make him choose then I will leave." Zeb said. "You aren't going any damn where. Do you understand ? My girls will love you and if they don't it's their loss. For the first time in my life I am truly happy and if anyone makes me choose then it will be their loss." Joe said as he placed his hand on Zeb's shoulder. Zeb felt like his life was draining from him because he nor Max knew that Joe was standing right behind them. Joe turned Zeb to face him. "I love you. I love you with all my heart and soul. My daughters have not visited me in over seven years. If they have a problem with you, No if they have a problem with us, then they can wait another seven years. Are we clear ?" Joe said. "But I ...." Zeb started. "But nothing. It's you and me buck a roo. If they want to join in and be a part, fine. If not it's their loss." Joe said and leaned over and planted a deep wet kiss for the whole building to see.

Carl was cruel to the twins in a way. They began passing out gifts but he pulled theirs to the side so that they would not be the first to get gifts. Both boys sat patiently and watched as wrapped packages went by them headed to other guests. Mrs. Turner and her children had been invited and were shocked to also have gifts under the tree. Finally Carl winked at Brian and called out the twins names for them to come get their gifts. Each boy had four gifts which surprised Max. Apparently Daryl and Mary, Brian and Ty, Durk and B had also remembered the twins were not in the drawing for gifts. The twins seemed to think it was Christmas morning with the gifts they had received even though they were just simple cheap gifts. Amanda and Ashley were also surprised to find gifts for them also. Aunt Mary didn't miss a trick.

Some of the gifts had exceeded the spending limit but no one complained. Flo ,for example, got a new Dolly Pardon style wig and B got a set of books "The do's and don'ts of a proper Butler." "Pfff. I should have wrote this book." B said before smiling. Austin was the most embarrassed. Flo had drawn his name and she bought him a twenty four bottle case of water based lube. "Damn Flo. You saved them boys a trip to town for at least a week." The older ranch hand said still holding a now sleeping baby. Durk laughed as he opened his. Inside was a bell that was engraved. "When you need a Butler... Just ring." "Honey don't worry. I got a nice hammer that will make quick work of that damn bell." B laughed.

Carl and Max had not realized that whoever had drawn their names had not produced a gift. They were too happy watching as all the guests oohed and aahed over the gifts they got. "We have one final gift. You all came together and pulled of what was just short of a miracle this year. This is a small thank you gift for all of your hard work from Me and Carl." Max said producing a stack of envelopes. Each ranch employee received an envelope with five thousand dollars in one hundred dollar bills. "We hope this helps you have to have an even Merrier Christmas." Carl said.

The older ranch hand stood and walked to the front if the room. Artie's attempts to regain his child were in vein. Leaning over the ranch hand lightly kissed the baby on the top of her head. "Show time baby girl." he whispered. "There is one more gift. As you probably noticed there was not a gift under the tree for our bosses. Me and one of the guys drew their name so we went in together for their gift. I know you said it was a twenty dollar spending limit but I promise I paid for it with twenty dollar bills. If everyone will grab their coats we have one last gift to present." The ranch hand said as he grabbed a blanket from Artie to cover the sleeping infant.

Outside everyone gathered around the sign that had been covered. Ross was waiting inside to turn the lights on when the sign was revealed. "Boss man I hope that I did not over step my bounds when I did this. If you don't like it I will not be upset if you want a different sign." The older ranch hand said. The front end loaders engine roared to life and the sign cover began to lift. It was dark by now so lifting the cover did not reveal much. "ROSS" someone shouted. As the covered cleared the top of the sign the lights came on.

Max's heart stopped as he saw the beauty and the detail of the sign in front of him. His mouth was open as he sank to his knees. Carl not doing much better sank beside him. Max could not hold his emotions and began to sob. "I guess I shouldn't have done it." The ranch hand said. Through the fog in his mind Max heard what was said. Rising to his feet he quickly grabbed the ranch hand and hugged him tight and began to cry. Mary was able to rescue the sleeping infant from the older man and Max hugged even tighter. "You are a God send. The sign could not be more perfect." Max whispered. Carl was still on his knees with his mouth open surveying every inch of the carved sign. "Holy fuck." was all he could whisper.

As the clean up was finished and all the guests were leaving with plates to tide them over for a couple of days Mark and Kevin walked up to Carl and Max. "Thank you for inviting me to your party. Thank you too for the gift you, didn't need to do that." Mark said. "Everyone at Rexlan ranch gets a gift." Max said. "Well Rexlan ranch has already given me my gift." Mark said putting his arm around Kevin. "So you two are getting a little serious then huh ?" Carl said. "I hope so." Mark said. "Mark has talked about moving to town so thanks to you two we can look for an apartment." Kevin said pulling the envelope out of his pocket. "Non sense. You have a home already." Max said. "But that is for employees." Kevin said. "Employees and their families. Mark as long as you are good to Kevin you are welcome to live with him in the duplexes unless you had rather live somewhere else." Carl said. "I could pay rent." Mark said with a smile. "I got out of the rental business when I moved out here. Don't have anything available to rent but I am sure if Kevin wants you there he has room for you to live." Max said. "You mean that boss man ?" Kevin asked.

"As long as you are sure. We want all of our family to be happy." Carl said. "Thank you, thank you." Kevin said and quickly hugged both men. "Your truck will be safe here at night so you don't have to worry." Max said. "It's usually empty. They drop a trailer in the morning behind the hardware store and I go there to get my deliveries." Kevin said. "You can have them bring it out here if you wish. It's not like there isn't plenty of room." Carl said. "It's fine where it is but thank you." Kevin said. "Tell you what. I am not sure what your schedule is here at the ranch but you take off until after Christmas so you and Kevin can spend more time together and you can also spend a couple of days at his place to tell him what he has to throw away and what he can move." Carl said. "Throw away ?" Mark asked. "Oh you will learn. It didn't take long for my husband to say yes to things and no to things. I just agreed." Carl laughed. "I wasn't that bad." Max said. "No you weren't baby." Carl laughed and kissed Max on the cheek.

Carl walked with Mark towards the door while Kevin and Max chatted. "Welcome to Rexlan ranch. We have one rule. Don't hurt Kevin. Kevin is family to us and very special. We would like to make you part of the family too but that is up to you and Kevin. I will tell you this though son, if you hurt him you better hope I find you before mother hen over there he is talking to does. I would only maim you but if you hurt that sweet boy that man would have FedEx looking for you for years to come. We understand each other ?" Carl said. "Is he that bad ?" Kevin asked. "Let's just say you don't want to test the waters to see." Carl said. "I promise I won't. The minute I laid eyes on Kevin I fell in love. There is just something about him. Who wouldn't fall in love with him ? " Mark said. "As long as you remember that you will be a welcomed member of the Rexlan family and no we don't accept rent." Carl said.

*Author's note: For those that are still interested in my story I need to apologize for the lengthy chapter delays. I had hoped 2017 would calm down so I could spend time writing but it came out of the gate like gang busters and has not slowed down. I would like to promise that the next chapter will not take as long but I can only say I will do my best. *
