'N Sync: Lance 'n' JC

It was a beautiful afternoon on the Big Island of Hawaii. In a secluded cove, the members of 'N Sync had just wrapped filming their video of 'The Girl Who has Everything' and were packing up to go back to the hotel.
"Man that was fun but I'm exhausted!" Chris announced, flopping on a chair at the back of their boat. "That's cause you're an old man, Chris!" Justin, the youngest member of the group at 18, teased. But he was obviously dragging too.
The concept for the video had them shipwrecked and washed ashore on a desert island, learning to get by like a kind of boy-band Swiss Family Robinson, having fun together despite the fact that they were left with no material possessions. While in far away New York, a poor little rich girl dreamed of love. It had been a blast to film, but a long day. Joey lugged his handy-cam bag on while talking to one of the cameramen, a youngish guy named Terry.
"So you do web stuff too? That's very cool." Joey nodded, "I wish I had time and the computer skills to get into that."
"Hey, I bet you'd catch on fast, and you could do some basic web stuff pretty quickly. I can show you some software on my laptop on the way back if you like." Terry answered eagerly.
"Cool, man, I appreciate that!"
Justin watched Joey and Terry walk by, his gaze traveling over the cameraman's slim body. After they went inside the cabin, he turned to Chris and asked, trying to sound matter-of-fact, "So who's that Terry guy?"
Chris looked up. "Who, the computer geek with Joey?"
"He's not a geek; and I'm jus' curious." Justin pouted.
"He's a geek, didn't you see the way he was clutching his laptop?"
"Well, we could use someone to jazz up our web site, y' know. It's kinda lame right now."
"Uh huh. Whatever." Chris yawned.
"I'll be glad to get back to our hotel where I can take a shower and get the sand out of my shorts!" Lance sighed, flopping down on a bench.
JC sat next to Lance and squirmed around on the seat sensuously. "Hmm, I like it!" He wiggled his eyebrows.
"You're sick, man" Chris said, playfully whacking JC on the side of his head, "So how many hours is it back to the hotel?" He asked the boat pilot as he and their manager, Alex, walked by.
The pilot looked distracted at first. "Uh, four-five hours."
"That's longer than the trip out here!" Chris complained.
"The sea's more choppy, have to stay closer to shore." He said as he scuttled away before they could question him further.
"Oh, great!" moaned Lance, rolling his eyes, "I almost got sick when the sea wasn't choppy!"
"Just be sure to do it over the railing, man." JC smiled at him condescendingly, "I don't need to see you puking; it'll ruin my romanticized image of you."
Lance looked at him in surprise after that comment, but JC avoided his gaze.
They finished stowing their personal gear while the filming crew packed everything else away. The pilot wasted no time getting under way, and it did seem like the water was rougher: the ship rose and fell, bobbing like a cork. They stayed close to the shore, which was reassuring. The sky was mostly clear and they had a couple hours of light left. Lance looked green, but managed to hold his lunch down.
The sun and day of work took its toll, and it wasn't long before all of them were dozing on the benches lining the rear of the boat. None of the boys saw the sun go down or the clouds roll in. The pilot and some of the filming crew did, but it was too late to turn back.
When the sky flashed white and a deafening CRACK of thunder split the air, all five guys leapt to their feet. A gust of cold wind struck them a moment later and the boat pitched alarmingly.
Lance stumbled forward and half fell as he grabbed for a railing. He felt JC's hand close protectively on his arm as he pulled himself upright.
"You okay, Scoop? They oughta have seat belts on these things."
"I'm fine, thanks." He smiled back.
JC looked away almost shyly.
"We should get inside."
They went into the cramped cabin, where Toby -- one of their bodyguards -- had already pulled together some snacks for them.
"I figured you guys were gonna wake up sooner or later!" The big man laughed as they piled inside.
Toby was a huge guy, a former college defensive tackle. Underneath all that bulk he was a pussycat -- but very protective of his "boys" as he liked to call the group.
Lance was now very pale and starting to sweat from seasickness, but Toby brought him a Coke and some crackers. "Eat something buddy, you'll feel better."
"Thanks, Toby, I'll give it a try." He gamely munched a few saltines and sipped his Coke, but with every heave of the boat he could feel his stomach twisting.
They hadn't been inside long before the sky turned really dark, and then the rain started to come down in lashing sheets of water. Chris, Joey and Justin all seemed to be doing okay as far as not getting seasick, though Justin looked a little scared every time the ship surged really high.
JC wished he could do something to make Lance feel better, but could only offer companionship. He sat next to him and tried to take his mind off the pitching boat.
"We'll be back soon, and I promise your bed in the hotel won't move like this at all."
Lance looked at him strangely for a moment. "Well, a little bouncing might be fun but...." Suddenly he clamped his hand over his mouth and staggered through the door to the open deck.
"Lance!" JC yelled, "Don't go out there -- it's too dangerous!" Not heeding his own advice he rushed after Lance through the swinging door.
The sky flickered with lightning, wind and rain lashed at JC and the boat's lurching seemed even worse out here. He was soaked to the skin almost instantly and it was hard to see at first. There was his poor friend leaning over the rail and heaving violently. He stumbled up next to him and shouted over the roar of wind and rain.
"I was kidding before, man, c'mon back!" Lance just shook his head and retched. JC put his hand reassuringly on his shoulder.
"Okay, I'll stay out with you then."
Lance turned his head, long enough to give JC a pained but appreciative smile before convulsing again.
'I'd do anything for that smile.' JC thought, holding Lance a little tighter.
Behind them Chris and Justin appeared in the doorway.
"Get in here!" Chris screamed, "You guys could get thrown overboard!"
JC waved at them, then turned back to Lance, who was down to dry heaves. He leaned forward to whispered in his ear. "C'mon back in with me, please, man."
The blond nodded and they started away from the railing, back towards the door.
Just then a huge wave struck them, sending a plume of water skyward and the boat pitching over. The guys staggered backwards, and before either knew what was happening they had hit the rail and were flung over it!
"Oh my god!" Chris yelled. He started towards the railing, Justin, Terry and Joey half a step behind.
"What the hell is going on!?" Alex hollered, staggering into the room with Toby.
Out on deck Chris, Joey and Terry were struggling to pull life vests from under the benches while Justin leaned dangerously over the rail.
"I see them!" Justin screamed, his voice breaking as he pointed out in the churning water.
"Get the hell inside! Where are Lance and JC!?" Toby asked, but he dreaded the answer, "'Oh God, please no...'
Chris and Joey both hurled jackets as far as they could. They could see hands waving out on the water.
"Put jackets on yourselves and stay away from the rail!" Alex yelled.
"I'll have the pilot turn around. We'll go back for them!" He staggered towards the front of the boat.
They could see that one of them -- it looked like JC -- had a vest, and Chris swore he saw JC holding onto Lance, but in the dark and the swirling water it was hard to know for sure. The shore was only half a mile away, but in this sea the currents were just as likely to thrust you out further.
They waited for the boat to turn, but it didn't. In fact, it seemed to drift further from Lance and JC. The other guys stayed out on the deck, yelling and straining to see, and feeling helpless. Their best friends were slipping away before their eyes! Justin wanted to tie a rope to himself and dive in, but Terry stopped him and made him put on a life vest.
Alex came back a few minutes later, his face ashen.
"Why aren't we going back?!?" They all seemed to scream in unison.
"The engine is out. They're working on it, but we can't go anywhere. Were radioing for help but even the Coast Guard can't go out in this weather." Expressions of shock, horror and disbelief faced him. "Now we know Lance and JC are both good swimmers, and we are close to shore. I'm sure they'll be all right, and we can pick them up tomorrow. Try to be calm."
Joey and Chris both looked like they wanted to kill him. Justin seemed to be in shock.
In the water, JC's first thought was of Lance. He grabbed for his struggling friend and got a grip on his T-shirt. Surging to the surface, he pulled the blond with him, fighting to keep their heads above the undulating waves. Lance seemed barely conscious, but breathing.
"Lance? Lance are you okay?" he shouted, but his friend seemed to be in shock, 'Maybe he hit his head as we fell. God what is going to happen to us? Could the boat come back for us in this storm?' JC thought worriedly.
Then with a splash a bright orange life vest smacked the water right near his face. JC managed to put it around Lance and fasten the front to keep his face above the waves. JC hung on, praying the boat would come back soon. The storm seemed so surreal here when he was in the water, bobbing and drifting. He thought he could hear the other guys calling him, but it got fainter and fainter -- along with the lights of the boat.
Every so often JC glimpsed the shore, and it seemed to be further away. He wanted to swim, to kick and push them closer, but he was so tired... it was getting hard to stay awake.
Then -- he thought he felt something brush against him. Lance was in front, but this was behind. Instantly alert from a surge of adrenaline, he looked around frantically. He saw the fin, just a few feet away, circling.
'Oh my god, no, please!' he thought. Once again, his first worry was for Lance, and how to protect him.
Fortunately, his fears were quickly dispelled. A rounded head popped out of the foamy sea and a snout opened to bark at him in high-pitched squeals. It was a dolphin!
It took the intelligent mammal a few tries to get through to JC's beleaguered mind as it pushed against him, but finally he grabbed onto its dorsal fin while holding tight to Lance. The powerful dolphin pulled them towards the shore with incredible speed, and in a few minutes JC felt sand under his feet. Clutching the unconscious Lance in his arms, he didn't know how to thank this generous creature. But it seemed to know somehow that he was grateful. Cackling and splashing, it returned to its home.
JC staggered up onto the beach with Lance, who was now no more than a dead weight. Shaking with fatigue, he laid Lance down on the dry sand.
"Okay, Joshua remember your lifeguard training!" he said to himself. He laid Lance on his back and tilted his head back to be sure his breathing was unobstructed. He did his best to listen, but he couldn't tell if Lance was still breathing at all. He pinched Lance's nose shut, covered the blond boy's mouth with his own, and exhaled into his lungs, praying that he didn't have to try CPR.
But it only took a couple of good breaths before Lance arched his back and then proceeded to cough up an incredible amount of sea water. JC could only tenderly hold him and thank God that they were alive.
After several minutes, Lance's heaving subsided to trembling and he flopped down onto the sand. JC, not knowing what else to do, hugged Lance to him. Their wet clothes stayed warm this way at least, he thought. To his surprise and infinite happiness, Lance wrapped his arms around JC and held on tight
For a long time Lance didn't move or say anything. Then suddenly he burst out, his voice raw,
"I was so stupid!"
"No you weren't man, and it doesn't matter. We're safe, it's gonna be fine."
"You saved my life."
"I don't know about that. Actually, a dolphin saved both of us."
"You'll have to tell me that story some day," Lance groaned, "In the meantime call the front desk," he mumbled, "I think there's been a mix-up."
"Oh, didn't you request marooned on a desert island theme vacation, Mister Bass?" JC tried to sound joking.
He was two years older -- Lance was only twenty -- he felt that he should be the brave and comforting one.
'But it's more than that, isn't it?' he thought. 'How many times have I felt guilty after a photo shoot when I used the excuse of everyone huddling together to put my hands on Lance's shoulders, or even put my arm around him... Lance never flinched or pulled away, though. Maybe... It feels nice to hold Lance! If we ever get out of this... No, what am I thinking?'
The rain stopped, and though the wind was cooler it also was dying down some.
"We should get out of these wet clothes." Lance said suddenly.
JC thought, 'You don't have to ask twice!'
They stripped down to their underwear, wringing out their other clothes and draping them on palm branches. JC was down to a pair of black briefs, while the typically more modest Lance kept his tank-top and white boxer-briefs. JC imagined that Lance was checking him out -- not that they hadn't seen each other in their skivvies before -- but he had to admit that now the thought excited him more than usual. Without a word they curled up on the sand together.
Lance knew it was irrational, but somehow JC's touch reassured him. It was nice the way they were so close now, in a way that guys never were. Their bodies were pressed against each other, and just now their faces were inches apart. JC was such a handsome guy. Lance had always thought he was the best looking of the five of them, sometimes feeling insecure himself because the other guys were all better looking than him. He didn't put much stock in those teen surveys that put him behind Justin in looks. He was too short, his hair was untamable and his nose was funny-shaped.
But JC was at that moment thinking to himself what a hot guy Lance was, with his deep masculine voice, tight body, and those heavenly green eyes that seemed as though they could look into your soul. He was allowing himself to think things that he had always pushed to the back of his mind before. JC felt warm all over... and then he suddenly realized that he was getting a hardon! 'Oh please no, if Lance saw me get a woody he would think I was some kind of fag. Well, maybe he was right.' JC thought harshly.
They kept looking into each other's eyes as the seconds dragged on and it became awkward. Both averted their gaze and smiled self-consciously. The boys looked up again and started to talk at once, then burst out laughing.
"Gimme a hug, man." Lance said suddenly.
JC hesitated, embarrassed about his 'condition,' and Lance took it the wrong way.
"I'm sorry, that was stupid." Lance looked away.
"No it wasn't!" JC said louder than he'd intended. He then grabbed Lance and hugged him with all his strength.
Lance returned it as best he could. "Hmm, I love you bro." He murmured in JC's ear.
JC pulled back a bit, but only so he could look at Lance again. He put his hand on the blond boy's smooth cheek. "I love you too."
Then he did it. Before he could think himself out of it, he leaned forward and kissed Lance on the mouth. It was a, quick, tentative kiss, their lips just touching. Then he backed off, blushing furiously. "I'm sorry man, I'm so sorry!"
"That's okay, no problem." Lance said quietly, then lay very still, almost not breathing.
The only sound for many long seconds was the crashing surf.
JC didn't know what to do; his mind was a crazy storm of emotions: 'I've ruined everything!' JC he thought.
'God it felt so good to kiss him!' Lance thought.
'Lance must hate me!' JC thought.
'I'd do anything to kiss him again!!' Lance thought.
Then to fill the awkward silence JC found himself singing, very softly, lyrics that had a particular meaning for him. It was so corny, he knew, but at this point he was beyond caring...
"It's tearin' up my heart when I'm with you, but when we are apart I feel it too... And no matter what I do, I feel the pain, with or without you."
After a pause, Lance picked it up, though singing his bass harmony. "Baby I don't understand just why we canÕt be lovers... Things are getting out of hand, trying too much, but baby..."
JC continued, "Let it go, if you want me...boy ...let me know. I am down on my knees, I can't take it any more..." Then he dared to look up.
Lance was smiling at him. "JC, I want you."
"You mean --" It couldn't be that Lance felt the same way!
"I mean, that was.... that was great JC." Lance broke into that gorgeous grin that always made JC's heart melt, now that he could admit it to himself.
Then JC closed his eyes and kissed Lance again. This was very different than kissing any girl different and way better. He could feel Lance kissing him back, their lips working together in a sort of playful contest. They parted for a moment, then kissed again, and again gently but firmly. Then gently rolled Lance onto his back on the sand, at the same time probing into his mouth with his tongue. Lance surprised him by responding with his own long tongue, while cradling his fingers across the back of JC's head, holding him to the increasingly passionate embrace.
The two boys squirmed against each other, JC ending up on top of Lance, their crotches grinding together in passion as they kissed each other eagerly, almost desperately. Each could feel the other's throbbing erection in their shorts.
Finally JC broke the kiss to come up for air. "Lance my man, oh baby!" He rested his head on Lance's shoulder, "I never thought you would feel the same way about me as I do about you!"
"Just coincidence that I always managed to be next to you everywhere, even arranging to room with you."
"Yeah, you coming out the shower all wet and fresh, with just a towel barely hanging on your hips!" He ran his fingers playfully through Lance's disheveled hair.
"You noticed! " Lance rumbled, at the same time spreading his legs to let JC settle comfortably between them. His chest hurt with that ache that made him feel alive. JC had kissed him! Lance was suddenly afraid that he would cry from happiness. He wiped his eyes angrily.
JC propped his head up on an elbow and saw the tears in Lance's eyes. "I'm not hurting you am I? Should I get off you?" He asked, concerned.
"Don't you dare!" Lance growled playfully, wrapping his arms around JC, "I just wish that you'd picked someplace with less sand to take me on our first date."
Before he even could think, the taller boy thrust his hips against Lance's, sexily rubbing their hard erections together. They both shivered with pleasure.
'God, Lance feels big!' JC thought to himself, feeling a little guilty that he was even thinking about something like that. He then said, "When we get back to the hotel, Lansten, we'll get a suite, just the two of us, with a Jacuzzi and a gigantic bed!" his voice trailed off and he gently kissed Lance again, then hugged him.
"The guys will have something to say about that, I'm sure." Lance murmured.
"They'll get over it." JC nuzzled Lance's tender neck.
"I've never done it, you know. Have you?" Lance asked in his ear, serious again.
"Never with a guy." JC said after a pause.
"But with girls?" Lance sounded hurt.
"I've had sex exactly twice. But I've never made love to another person like I want to do with you buddy. Hey, what about you and that girl in Atlanta?"
Lance snorted. "She wanted to but I kept avoiding her. She practically chased me around the room. Finally I made her leave." Lance sighed, then added, "I... I think I'm gay, JC. Are you -- bisexual?"
The taller boy smiled and said, "I'm Lance-sexual! I'm in love with you, babe, and no one else. I have been since I first got to know you."
Lance smiled at this but pressed on. "You know what I mean. I've never been attracted to girls, and I couldn't admit to myself that I liked guys. It's not exactly the way I was brought up."
"I just slept with those girls because I thought I was supposed to. It was awful, actually. Kissing you is like waking from a bad dream, man, I'm totally serious."
That seemed to satisfy Lance and he said, "I'm not even sure what two guys do together, but I've got some ideas." His hands caressed JC's sinewy back, then strayed down to cup his round butt- cheeks.
"You horny little stud." JC obligingly flexed his cheeks. "But we'll have plenty of time to play, and you need to rest."
Lance sighed, but JC was right. He was exhausted. And right now just lying here in his buddy's arms was enough.
To be continued...
