Chapter One: The Assignment

"The psychologist blames it on my dad... Cause my dad left us before I was born, I reach out to other men, trying to find whatever it was I'm lacking from my dad ditching us.."

"... and you think..."

"I dunno.. Randy.. I just think I like guys.."

The conversation was way over due.. They had been friends now for going on 18 years.. All through grade school, throughout college, and even now working together at the newspaper. And Randy had come out of the closet in the 7th grade. Taylor had no idea why it was so hard for him to tell his best friend he was gay.

"I coulda told you that much 5 years ago.." Randy was quite the sarcastic one.

"What? You.. you knew?" Taylor had always been extra careful in covering it up..

"Bro, I'm gay.. It's kinda like a sixth sense.. ya know? I can spot a fellow fag a mile away.."

Taylor was about to respond, but didn't much have a chance. A knock at the door of his office halted the conversation. Jamie Newton, managing editor of the Sun Herald, came in with an excited stride that was signature to her. Her mouth running a mile a minute, she was prepared to give Taylor his biggest and most dangerous assignment yet..

"So Taylor, about this whole gay thing, it's cool with me..." Jamie didn't slow down for a second.. she kept talking until she realized that Taylor was staring at her..

"You know already? I swear, I came out this morning!"

"This is a newspaper.. gossip is what we do.. but anyways, listen!! You know N'Sync is going to be in concert.."

"Please! I swear I've covered every concert that has come to this damn coast. Let Marissa do it. Or Shayne. Or Teri... or Kevin, for christ sakes.."

"None of them can do the job I need you to do."

This perked Taylor's interest.. What was it exactly that his editor was talking about??

"Now, their have been SO MANY rumors going around that Justin Timberlake might, just MIGHT, be gay.. or bi, at least.. so I want you to go undercover and find out..." The wheels in her head were still spinning.. but Taylor didn't really understand his assignment.

"I'm confused.. What exactly am..."

"Well I guess it's not really undercover.. Just do whatever it is you gay people do to get guys..."

Taylor was offended. Randy was offended. Jamie didn't notice.

"So you want me to go to this concert.. find out if Justin Timberlake is gay, and then let you publish it to the world?? This is a respected newspaper, not some tabloid peice of shit paper. And plus, do you have any deceny what-so-ever? Besides the fact that this is his personal life we'd be fucking with, do you have any idea what kind of trouble we could get into for this? If you want the article that bad, find someone else to do it.. cause I won't. "

"If you get the story I'm looking for, I can gaurentee you A1." Finally, she took a breath.

"I'll cover the concert. If you want anything beyond that, find someone who doesn't have morals.."

Taylor was visibly pissed. Just the thought of what Jamie wanted to do was enough to make Taylor sick to his stomach.. Knowing how hard it was for him to come out of the closet, he could never think of doing what Jamie was asking of him. For the first time during the conversation, Randy spoke up.

"Front page? I'll do it."

Chapter Two: Pre-Concert

Now a week and a half after the initial meeting with Jamie, the N'Sync concert was just a few short hours away. Randy was busy deciding what to wear. Taylor was busy trying to talk Randy out of this crazy stunt.

"I'm just so glad you're going with me, buddy.." Randy said as he dug through his closet.

"The only reason I'm going is to make sure you don't ruin someone's life. See if I dont ruin this for you at the last second.."

Randy ignored the threat, as now his biggest concern was deciding what shirt he was going to wear with his faded denim jeans.. He was holding everything up against his Sun Herald press badge. Wanted to make sure it wouldn't clash, you know. Jamie had arranged every detail. She set up the interview, made sure it'd just be Justin and Randy, had every aspect worked out.

"Bingo".

The blue and silver short sleeve snakeskin-looking shirt was just what Randy was looking for. Just perfect to show off his strong chest and defined abs. Neither Randy nor Taylor fit the description of what everyone thought a writer should look like.. When you think of writer, you think someone who sits inside alot at the computer.. probably pale, not too muscular, a bit shy.. those words had never been used to describe Randy or Taylor. Both were blessed with good looks and a great body.. Taylor got more than his share of the girls growing up, and Randy likewise with the guys. Randy was sure that his good looks would be more than enough to make that teen idol weak in the knees.

"You do realize how much trouble you can get into for this, don't you? Besides your own reputation, you're putting the reputation of the newspaper at stake here. If you screw this up, our credibility is going to be shot."

Taylor was nervous. It's was obvious. Besides his obvious concerns, he had other more personal concerns. Although he'd swear it was a lie if ever confronted about it, Taylor had the biggest crush on Justin Timberlake. There was no telling how many wet nights were spent with Justin on his mind.... and he could never do anything like this to hurt his idol.

"Stop complaining and jump in the shower.. you can't be greeting the hottest boy band on the face of this planet smelling like yesterday's lunch."

So this was it. They were going to go through with it.. Little did they realize what they were getting themselves into..

**

In Chapter Three, the interview goes as planned, but things take an unexpected twist when Randy's charm doesn't work exactly as he plans..
