I know I don't really post regularly, but I have the whole school thing going right now. Marching season for band is over, but concert season starts REALLY soon. That means practicing, and tryouts, and all that mess. Yeah, I know, I'm a band nerd, lol. But, I can play a saxophone like there's no tomorrow!! Watch out, Kenny G! Lol, I hope you like the chapter. By the way, some of you might be familiar with tim the story guy. He's posted a bunch of really great stories on Nifty, and we've started a project together. The story is called City Mouse, Country Mouse, and its a unique collaboration between the two of us. We both write the role of one of the two main characters. It's a little different, but it works all the same. It's in the gay/highschool section of Nifty, so look it up sometime when you have a chance. By the way, if there are any writers out there with a reasonable amount of talent, please drop an email by me. I've an idea that I'm going to run by tim, and I'd like the help of an author or two out there! Now, on to the story. Oh, and another thing- I know this a HUGE no-no, but I'm changing tenses in the story. Its gotten a bit difficult to write in present tense the whole story, so I'm giving way to past tense.

Chapter 10-- Nick, don't do it!
When Wyatt and I got back to my house, we walked in and peeled off our helmets and pads. We're laughing and kissing and pulling off clothes as I notice my answering machine light blinking. I walk over and press the button, figuring my mom left a message. I hate this damn thing now.
"James... I'm sorry. You too, Wyatt... I love you, and I'm so sorry that I hurt you. I was in love with you Wyatt, but I couldn't tell you. I... I just couldn't stand to see you with James, when I'd wanted you for so long. I'm so sorry for what I did... don't worry guys, you'll never have to deal with me again. This isn't your fault, but its over for me. I'll miss you, Wyatt, and you should know that I loved you while I was alive", Nick's voice flooded throught the tiny speaker, sobbing as he spoke.
I was left stunned... I couldn't even think completely straight. What did he mean?
"Wyatt, we have to get to Nick's house right now, get in the car!"
"James, is he gonna do what I think he is?", Wyatt looked at me in horror. Wyatt hated Nick now, but to hope someone dies is just against Wyatt's nature; he's much too kind to wish anything like that on a person, no matter how much he dislikes them.
"Not if we can help it, come on, let's go", I said urgently. We ran out of the front door, and jumped in my car. I pulled out of the drive, and was going about fifty in a thirty zone. Surprisingly, there weren't any police out on the roads. I couldn't think why there wouldn't be the normal number of cops out.
Then, as we pulled up to Nick's house, I saw why. There had to be at least three or four cars here, and an ambulance was screaming towards the place. I looked over at Wyatt, and saw his face threatening to break down into tears. I put my arms around him, and tried to think of something comforting to say to him.
"I'm sure he's allright", was the best I could come up with, and I didn't believe it myself. Wyatt and I got out of my car, and headed up to a policeman standing near the street to keep people far enough away.
"Please, sir, my friend lives here. Can you tell me what happened?", I said in the calmest demeanor I could manage; Wyatt didn't look as if he could let out a word.
"He hurt himself. That's all I can say without getting into trouble myself. You'll have to go see him at the hospital", the man said. I looked behind me and saw that the ambulance had arrived. They had a stretcher out, and were putting Nick on it. I caught a glimpse of his wrists, and they were a slick, dark red. I couldn't breathe for a second, then I turned back around. Wyatt started to turn to see what I was looking at, but I grabbed him and embraced him.
"Its gonna be okay, allright?", I said to him, hoping to keep him from looking at the unconscious Nick on that stretcher. I didn't want him to see that horrible sight, the dark red slick spreading... slipping off and hitting the ground in sick droplets that seemed to splatter.
"Let's go back home, call the hospital, and ask about him", I said to Wyatt. He didn't say a word, just nodded. We went back to the car, and slowly made our way back to my house. Thankfully, my mom had gone out with a friend, and she wasn't there at the moment. I led Wyatt back into my room, and sat him on the bed.
"Get some rest, and I'll call and let you know what I find out, okay?", I asked. Wyatt finally spoke.
"James, what... what do think will happen to him? He's gonna die, isn't he? Tell me the truth, James", he said, tears welling up while his sober expression began to waver.
"NO, Wyatt! I promise you he'll be just fine. They have him at the hospital, and we'll probably be able to talk to him within a few hours. In fact, I'm going to go call right now, and check on him", I said. I walked into the living room and got the phonebook. After I looked up the number, I called the Marion General hospital.
"Marion General, can I help you?", I heard a feminine voice on the other end say.
"Yes, my friend Nick Adams was brought in earlier today. I wanted to know how he is, if that's okay."
"Hmm... Nick is in ICU, and his condition is pretty bad. We're not sure if he'll pull through, but if he can make it through the next day or so, then he'll be okay. He lost a lot of blood, and there aren't any sources to draw from. Turns out that Nick has a very rare blood type, AB negative, to be exact".
At those words, I froze. That's MY blood type... maybe I could help him, after all.
"Ma'am, I have that blood type! Is there any way I could donate blood for him?"
"Really?! Thank you, could you please come down as soon as possible? The faster you get here, the better!"
"I'll be there within an hour, ma'am, and thank you so much for letting me know about it!"
"Okay, we'll be ready for you, I'll notify the doctor. Bye!"
"Bye". I hung up the phone, and went back to the room.
"Wyatt, we have to go to the hospital now. I have to donate blood for Nick, so he'll be okay. But, we have to go now. He's in ICU."
"Allright, lets go! What are we waiting for?", Wyatt said, looking much better. We got into the car, and sped to the hospital. We walked in, and were met by a woman in one of those hospital suits, the ones with a V-neck shirt, and made of comfortable cotton to distinguish them from the other people in the hospital.
"Are you James Clark?", she asked me.
"Yes, ma'am, I'm here to donate blood for Nick Adams", I said.
"Come this way. I'm Anne Gordon, by the way." She led us down a hall into the room where they did bloodwork on patients. After pointing towards a chair with an arm rest, she went to a drawer and removed a tourniquet, along with needle and a few large vials connected to rubber tubing. She came over to me as Wyatt stood almost on top of me, and wrapped the tourniquet snugly around my arm, and pressed the hollow needle into the vein that now stood out. She quickly drew three large size vials of blood, and I saw that together they equaled a pint. I couldn't help wondering if that was enough to really help.
"Thank you so much, this will do him a world of good. Oh, and make sure to drink the juice and eat the cookies that the other nurse brings you. We don't want you blood sugar to drop. After you've sat here for about ten or fifteen minutes, you can go", she said with a smile. I supposed it would help after all. I ate my cookies and looked up at Wyatt.
"Thanks, James. I know you don't like him too much, but thank you. You don't know how much this means to me", he said with tears forming.
"Don't even think about it, cutie. You've had enough crying for today", I said. I pulled him down to me, and kissed him deeply on the lips. When he drew away, he had a grin on his face.
"Ahem...", we heard a deep voice say. I turned, blushing, to look at a doctor. Wyatt was worse than I was, he'd turned red as a beet.
"Nick will be fine, now, thanks to you, James. If you'd like, you can go in and see him. He is still very groggy, and he's sedated, but you can take a minute or two to talk to him before he falls asleep. If all goes well, he'll be out in a couple of days", the doctor said with a smirk.
"Thanks doc! Oh, and sorry about that", I said, blushing again.
"Don't worry about it! I just wouldn't do that till you have some time to rest. A pint of blood does take a while for your body to build back up, you know".
"Could you tell us which room Nick is in?", Wyatt asked.
"Sure, he's in room 322", the doctor said. Wyatt and I walked out of the room, and got in the elevator to go up to the third floor. We walked down the hall, and found 322. Nick was laying back in the bed, with bandages on both his wrists.
"So it was you that donated blood? Thank you, James... I don't know how to repay you", Nick said, eyes traveling down to the floor.
"Its okay, just make sure you share the wealth when I get hurt, allright?", I said.
"Sure thing. Look, Wyatt, I'm so sorry. I was so jealous, I just went crazy. I've been thinking about you for years now, but I guess you've found the right guy for you. I'm glad you're happy."
Wyatt walked over to Nick, bent down, and gently kissed him on the lips, then wrapped his arms around him. Nick just layed there, stunned at Wyatt.
"I forgive you, Nick. I'll forget all about everything that's happened, if you will. You should know that I love you, even though its not that kind of love. I'll always be your friend", Wyatt said, eyes closed, arms around Nick.
"Thanks, Wyatt!" Wyatt let go and backed up.
"Well, we're gonna leave you alone, but we'll be back tomorrow. If you're not better by then, we'll beat you up, and we'll do it, too!", Wyatt said.
"I'll try. Thanks again, you guys. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Bye, Nick!", Wyatt and I said in unison, then turned to each other and laughed as we walked out of the room. After we got home, we walked in to find my mom standing in the living room.
"Is there by any chance some things you want to tell me, like why I got a call from Marion General asking for my permission so my son could give blood in an emergency situation, or why you two have been holed up in that room like I didn't know Wyatt was here?"
Wyatt and I looked at each other, took a deep breath, and began to explain.
That's the end of chapter ten. Hope you liked it, and PLEASE email me if you did. I have to know somebody's reading this stuff. Lol, it makes it much easier to write it. niftywriterjc@hotmail.com
