First, I want to thank anyone who has stuck with this story, and enjoys it. It is not as much fun to write when I am the only one that reads it.
Due to the nature of life, I have found myself with little to no time to devote to this story, and that has made it difficult to continue it. Sadly, this will be the last chapter. When I find more time I will make another zombie apocalypse story, but I can not make promises to when that will be. It has been a blast writing this, and a special shout out to anyone who has written with comments or suggestions. You guys made this a ton of fun, and I hope that you enjoy the ending to this story of Outbreak, New York.
This story is based in a timeline of New York City which has been over run with Zombies. Due to the nature of this story people and places included in this writing are not representative of real people, or places, and any similarities are coincidental. Chapter 8
Lucas, Adrian, and Samantha were hurried out of the clinic and the door was closed behind them.
"She was at the mall?" Adrian said.
Lucas and Samantha exchanged looks.
"Fuck.." Lucas said.
"Then those guys.." Adrian said.
"They don't know we were in here..." Samantha said. "Right?"
"No. If they knew we were here they would have stuck around. They just left her for dead." Adrian said.
Lucas walked down the hall to his unit. He ignored the others as they asked what he was doing. He flipped the lock on his door and sat on the couch. His head was pounding and he rested it in his hands. When he realized that his headache was not subsiding he remembered that coke had some pain killing properties.
"What the hell." He said as he opened his briefcase.
Lucas pulled out the bag of powder and poured some onto the table. He made a line of the powder and before he had a second thought he had snorted a good portion of it.
His headache did not fade, but he stopped caring. He pulled out his pipe and loaded more weed into it. Taking a hit he laid back on the couch and closed his eyes. After a few more puffs there was a knock at the door.
"Go away!" Lucas yelled, but the knocking continued. Lucas got up and unlocked his door. He swung it open to see Amanda standing there.
"Lucas... How high are you right now?" Amanda said shaking her head.
"Uhh..." Lucas said lamely. "Can I come in?" Amanda asked. "You can say no..."
"Uhh.. Come in. Sure." Lucas said stepping aside.
Amanda walked in and took a seat on the couch. Lucas took a seat on the opposite side. They looked at each other awkwardly until one of them broke the silence.
"How are you doing?" Amanda asked. "Head okay?"
"I am alright. A bit of a headache but that is going away." Lucas said.
"That is not what I meant. I mean how are you holding up?" Amanda said with a slight chuckle.
"Oh. I just try not to think about things, you know?" Lucas said leaning back into the couch.
"That is understandable. We all have coping mechanisms. A lot of people are just blocking things out. But I want to make sure that you are doing alright. A couple people have been concerned that you..."
"A couple people? Who has been running off to you?" Lucas said, starting to get angry.
"I told them I would not say. You shut down a lot, and I wanted to make sure that you are oka.."
"What the hell!? Who is okay!? The world just ended and people expect me to.. Us to.. Do you have any idea how many people have died in the last week?" Lucas said.
"Lucas... I am not here to make you mad. Everyone has a lot to take in. Calm down. We don't have to talk about this if you do not want to." Amanda said.
"Well I don't want to." Lucas said leaning back again.
"Well I will let you be for now, then. Just know I am here to talk if you need to." Amanda said standing up. "And be careful with those drugs, Lucas. They may make you feel alright for a while, but it is all fake, and you come down eventually."
Lucas leaned over the table and finished snorting his line from earlier. "That is why I have more." He said leaning back.
Amanda rolled her eyes and walked out of the unit. Before she could close the door Samantha and Adrian walked in.
"What is with you Lucas?" Adrian said.
"Are you alright?" Samantha said closing the door behind her.
"How is it that you two always show up as I pull out drugs?" Lucas said, ignoring their questions. "It is like you both have super senses."
"It is a gift" Samantha said taking a seat by Lucas. "Are you alright? You just took off back there."
"I am fine." Lucas said taking another puff off of the pipe. "Headache."
"Your head has had a rough couple days I guess." Samantha said taking the pipe as Lucas rolled his eyes.
"Lucas, man. That chick. She looked pretty bad. That bullet had to have made some serious damage." Adrian said sitting next to Samantha.
"Can we please not talk about it? I am done with all this death, dying, injuries, and motherfucking zombies. Please, for just a little while. None of it!" Lucas said. The volume of his voice made his head throb.
"Yeah, sure. Alright." Adrian said taking a hit of the pipe and passing it to Lucas.
"Thank you." Lucas said.
The three of them sat in silence for what seemed like an hour. The pipe was passed around periodically. The room was filled with enough smoke that there was little need to light up any more.
"Lucas..." Adrian said.
"I swear to whatever deity you choose. If you are going to say anything about zombies, death, or my head, I am going to light you on fire with this lighter." Lucas said.
"Woah, chill out man." Adrian said backing into the arm of the couch. "I was just going to ask for a line.
Lucas sighed. "Sorry. Yeah help yourselves."
Samantha and Adrian made decent sized lines for themselves and after snorting them they stood up.
"You know what we need right now?" Samantha said. "Some music."
"I think there is a stereo in the closet over there..." Lucas said.
Adrian opened the closet and pulled out a decent looking radio and a case of Cds.
"Who the hell uses CD's anymore?" Samantha said searching through them. "Here, put this in."
Adrian took the CD and put it into the stereo. The music was nothing grand, but it had a nice beat. Adrian pulled Samantha over and the two started to dance. Lucas even got into it, though he tried not to move his arm or head too much. When the song ended Adrian tuned the volume down a bit.
"You know, this is the first time I have danced, or even listened to music, since" Adrian cut himself off.
"Just say it." Lucas said.
"Since this all started..." Adrian said eyeing the lighter cautiously.
"It is kind of nice, isn't it?" Samantha said.
"Yeah. It is." Lucas said. "Like a part of life that we can still enjoy."
Adrian turned the music back up and pulled Samantha into a dance. She laughed and spun around tripping over the coffee table. She fell to the ground still laughing. Adrian helped her up as there was a knock on the door.
Lucas walked over and opened it, laughing himself. Amanda stood at the door again shaking her head.
"What in the blazes is going on down here? I can hear you from down the hall!" She said looking in.
"We are just having a little dance, that is all." Lucas said.
"Are you guys crazy!?" Amanda yelled. "What if they can hear you!?"
"Would you lighten up? We are just having some fun. You might look into doing the same." Samantha said.
"Yeah. Take a hit, chill. Listen to the music. Relax!" Adrian said pulling her in and handing her the pipe. "It will be good for you."
"I don't smoke." Amanda said.
"Like this..." Lucas said taking the pipe and grabbing a hit. He handed the pipe back to her and lit it for her.
Amanda coughed and carried on as smoke exited her lungs. She sat down on the couch and took another hit.
"Wow... am I high?" Amanda said.
"Are you?" Lucas said taking a seat next to her.
"I don't know..." Amanda said, laughing.
"Yep, she's high. Look at her eyes. I haven't seen someone get that red in a long time." Samantha said.
Adrian turned the music back up and the dancing continued. It wasn't long before more people had come into the unit. It got too crowded, so they moved into the lobby.
"Are you sure they can't hear us?" Amanda said to Bradley as they turned on the music.
"These walls are thick enough, and if they do we are pretty well boarded in here." Bradley said taking a rip off of the pipe. "We should have done this a long time ago!"
"What the HELL is going on here!?" Travis said walking around the corner at the top of the stairs.
"The grown ups are all high. They are listening to music." Alex said coming around the corner behind Travis.
"They are kind of funny, don't you think?" Denise said. "I like the music."
"Turn that shit off! What are you guys thinking!?" Travis said coming down the stairs.
"Come on. Mellow out, man. We are safe in here. You don't have to be like that." Bradley said.
"Are you serious? You are all going to get us killed!" Travis said.
"Babe, take a line. Take a hit. Join the party. I am done hiding in here. You heard Bradley, we are safe in here. No zombie is going to get through, and if they do we have guns." Lucas said.
"Keep the music down." Travis said. He turned around and walked back up the stairs.
Travis walked down the hall to the make-shift clinic and walked in. Eric was just inside grabbing more bandages.
"What is going on out there?" Eric asked.
"They are throwing a fucking party, that is what is going on!" Travis said. "How are our patients?"
"Well, Will is begging for more morphine, and the lady, well.." Eric said.
"Still the same?" Travis asked.
"She... I lost her. She died." Eric said.
"That's too bad. What do we do?" Travis said.
"We can't burry her, but we can't just leave her in here... We will have to dispose of the body in the morning." Eric said. "Just leave the door shut until then."
"What are the bandages for? Will?" Travis said.
"Yeah, I am going to change the wrappings. Didn't you say there was a party?" Eric said.
"Yeah, can you believe those guys!?" Travis said. "They are going to get us killed, I swear!"
"No, the walls are thick enough, and we are pretty well secured. Maybe it is what they need." Eric said.
"WHAT!? Now you are with them?" Travis yelled. "This is shocking! What about Mr. Rules and Regulation?"
Eric stopped and put the bandages down. He turned to Travis and grabbed his shoulders.
"Kid, chill out. We have all had a rough week, go blow off some steam. I have this handled. Just go relax for a little while. If there is a party started already, you might as well join in." Eric said. He let go of Travis and took the bandages into the other room.
"There is a party? I want to go!" Will said. "Let me out of this bed!"
"You are not going anywhere. You need to get that hole in you healed up. Here is your drip." Eric said.
Travis left the room still fuming about the party, but by the time he had reached the stairs he was ready to enjoy himself. Lucas met him halfway down the stairs with a pipe in hand. He held it out to Travis like a peace offering. Travis smiled and took a hit from the pipe.
"Ready to enjoy yourself now?" Lucas said.
"Yeah. I am." Travis said pulling Lucas down the stairs to dance.
Everyone in the complex was gathered in the lobby, dancing and enjoying themselves. It was like a silver lining to a horrible experience. Even the younger people were running around playing and dancing. The adults did their best to keep them away from any drinks or drugs, but there's so much smoke in the air already that the kids were bound to breathe a little in.
"Hey, come over here." Lucas said pulling Travis to a corner after a couple songs.
"We should have done this long ago. This is really fun." Travis said.
"I am glad you came around." Lucas said with a smile. He pulled Travis into the security room under the stairs.
"I like where this is going" Travis said with a grin.
Lucas pulled a small bag of coke from his pocket and made a couple lines for each of them. As the finished them off Lucas pulled Travis into a kiss. Travis pulled away only to take his shirt off and pulled back to Lucas. Lucas moved his kisses down to Travis' neck and sucked lightly.
"You are going to leave a mark." Travis said lightly.
"Good. Then everyone will know you are mine." Lucas said still kissing his neck.
He moved his kisses onto Travis' chest and stopped at his right nipple. He sucked lightly and ran his tongue in circles around it. Travis leaned back onto the desk, shoving everything onto the floor.
Lucas pulled his shirt off and went back to kissing Travis. Their tongues danced around each other. Lucas reached down and felt Travis' errection was pressed hard against his jeans, as was his own. He moved his hands to loosen Travis' belt and pulled it off of him. His jeans followed. As Lucas pulled Travis' boxers off of him his cock was hard as a rock. He removed the rest of his own clothes before taking Travis' dick into his mouth.
"Oh god! Lucas." Travis said as Lucas began to lick the head of his dick. He lowered his lips until he could not go lower. Travis took over and started to move in and out of his mouth. Lucas let out a low moan which vibrated Travis eliciting a moan of his own.
Travis pulled out of Lucas' mouth and pulled him up for another kiss. He spun the two of them around and pushed Lucas against the desk. He knelt down and took Lucas' entire cock into his mouth. Lucas let out a loud groan as he lay back on the desk. He allowed Travis to lick and suck on his dick for a few minutes before he pulled him up for another kiss. He savored the slightly salty taste of the kiss before he pulled away for air.
"I want you inside me." Lucas said into Travis' ear before nipping at the earlobe lightly. He slid out from under Travis and grabbed his jeans. He pulled a small tube of lube from his pocket and handed it to Travis.
Travis wasted no time opening it and using a generous amount to slick his member. He hoisted Lucas up onto the desk and put a good amount on his opening as well. He pushed his dick lightly onto Lucas' opening until it relaxed enough to slip in. Lucas winced slightly, but urged him on.
"I am going to fuck you until you love me." Travis said pushing in.
"Ahh... YES!" Lucas yelled.
Travis pushed in again, and again, hitting his prostate until Lucas could only lay there. Lucas pulled Travis into a deep, passionate, kiss. Their tongues duked it out while Travis continued to push in and out of Lucas. Travis picked up speed until he was going fast and hard enough that the desk tipped over.
Lucas stood up and pulled Travis into another kiss. Travis pushed Lucas against the wall and Lucas wrapped his legs around him. Travis pushed back inside of Lucas. He knew he would not hold out much longer, but it wasn't until Lucas started to moan and he felt bits of warm wetness between them that he finally came inside of Lucas. Travis let out his own moans and he pulled out and lowered Lucas to the ground. Lucas laid down and Travis rested on top of him for a little while.
"I love you." Lucas said. "I really do."
"I love you too, Lucas." Travis said with a smile. "Want to dance?"
"Sure." Lucas said with a smile. "But we should probably get dressed."
Travis stood up and pulled Lucas to his feet. The two of them pulled their clothes on and opened the door. The music was still going full blast, and everyone was still dancing like they had not slipped away to heaven for a while. Lucas smiled and pulled Travis into the middle of the lobby for a dance. The song was a bit slower and Lucas pulled Travis close and rested his head on Travis' shoulder. They moved slowly, like you would at a middle school dance. More of a long hug moving in circles, than a dance. They both closed their eyes and held each other moving slightly to the music. Adrian and Samantha were dancing next to them and the four of them moved closer together unknown by either Travis or Lucas. When they were close enough Adrian leaned over to them.
"The outside walls just may be thick enough to hide this noise, you know." Adrian said. "But that security room's insulation just plain sucks. And the stairs, they are paper thin. One wrong step and you will fall through I bet."
"You guys fucked like DOGS!" Samantha yelled out.
There was a fair amount of snickering, and even some flat out wailing laughter. Lucas' face turned bright red, and Travis was making a valiant effort at scarlet.
After a second's hesitation Lucas let out a "woof" to a lot more laughter and everyone got back to dancing.
A couple songs later Eric came around the corner looking tired, but he came down the stairs and found Amanda, pulling her over to the side of the room. She handed him a pipe and after a few hits he was in the center of the lobby doing the robot.
"I didn't know you could dance, old man!" Bradley said coming up behind him and dancing the robot as well.
"Please, I invented this dance!" Eric said with a hearty laugh.
When the song was over Eric took a line from Lucas and then returned to dancing, this time with Amanda in his arms. The kids were still running around the lobby dancing and having fun watching the adults act like fools. Lucas and Travis took a seat on the stairs to rest, and that is when they heard a yell from upstairs.
The yell was loud, but the music drowned it out. Lucas hopped up and looked to Travis.
"Did you hear that?" Lucas said.
"Hear what?" Travis said standing up.
"Someone screamed." Lucas said. "Upstairs."
"What? No one is up there. Oh wait. That would be Will; probably is screaming for more morphine." Travis said.
Travis pulled Lucas back onto the floor to dance again. Lucas relaxed a bit, but they made their way toward Eric.
"Hey Eric. I think Will might want more morphine. Should I go get it?" Travis said over the music.
"No, I will go. That ass hole is never satisfied. We are going to run out at this rate." Eric said. He walked up the stairs shaking his head and disappeared behind the corner.
"I think I will go... Help him with the morphine..." Amanda said with a smile before taking off as well, at a slightly quicker pace.
"Is that what the old people are calling it these days?" Lucas said. Travis laughed and they continued dancing.
It was about an hour before Eric walked back down the stairs. The sun would be coming up soon. It had to be 4 am by now. Amanda was right behind him and they both looked very tired. Amanda's hair was a hot mess, disheveled and tangled. Eric could barely walk straight. Travis looked up and let out a chuckle. He walked over to Eric who was just reaching the bottom step and reached out giving him a pat on the shoulder.
"That's my man!" Travis said.
Lucas looked up with a smile and let out a chuckle himself. He would have been full out laughing until Eric grabbed a hold of Travis' arm and bit into it. The yell that came out of Travis's mouth rang out louder than the music could ever compete with. Lucas picked up the closest thing he could find and smacked Eric over the head with it. Eric stumbled backward but Amanda was behind him and simply pushed Eric and Travis out of the way falling on top of Lucas. Before he could react Amanda had bitten into Lucas' neck and began chewing on the flesh that was torn away.
It took the others a couple seconds to process what had just happened, before they tackled Eric and Amanda to the floor. Bradley pulled a gun from inside the security room, which was still a mess from earlier goings-on in the room. He came back as the others were trying to restrain Eric and Amanda. Bradley fired one shot in the head of both Amanda and Eric before collapsing against the wall. Before he could get comfortable Will rounded the corner at the top of the stairs. He was dragging an IV behind him, and his face and clothing was covered in blood. Bradley shot him and he crumbled to the ground below his feet.
Denise came running in the room, and when she saw her parents on the floor she let out a moan and collapsed herself. Samantha hurried over to her. Her face was already soaked with tears and she held the girl in a bracing hug.
Travis had stopped screaming and made his way over to where Lucas lay bleeding from the neck. He knelt down over him and began crying himself.
"Its.. This... This sucks." Lucas said, coughing a bit.
"Yeah... This sucks." Travis said, crying.
"I do love you,.. Travis... I do." Lucas said. He closed his eyes, and his breathing slowed.
Travis leaned in to give Lucas one last kiss, and then Lucas' breathing stopped entirely. Bradley stood up and motioned everyone away from the two of them.
"Man... God DAMN IT!" Bradley said.
"Give me the gun." Travis said.
"What?" Bradley asked lamely.
"GIVE ME THE FUCKING GUN!" Travis yelled standing up, tears still flowing from his eyes.
Bradley handed Travis the gun. Travis pointed the gun at Lucas, who was already starting to twitch again. He fired one bullet into his head. Travis collapsed to the floor before turning the gun and pointing it under his jaw.
"Life is fucked up..." Travis said. He pulled the trigger and his world went black. He fell on top of Lucas' body, and his life ended.
