As sat down on our places at the dining table Jody asked "Don't you have something to tell us?"
"Well, we've told you, or at least Tom everything about what happened today." I said.
"Uh-huh?" Jody said. "Tom? Did they tell you about the sleepover they're planning on weekend at our place?"
"Um, no?" Tom said.
"Phew!" Josh and I said in unison. It took a weight of our hearts. "Hum, we were just about to ask you about this!" Josh said.

"Yes, we've talked about it on the way home, but we told Kevin and Steve that we'll have to ask you first, if it's cool with you!" I said.
"Uh-huh..." Jody said. "Well, as Mrs. Greenwood has just told me, Kevin must be thrilled about it and he was talking about nothing else during dinner. She barely could get him to bed, he was begging his parents all the time to allow him to stay with you overnight with you on weekend. She wasn't really sure about it, since she doesn't know us. She's coming down here to lean to know us."
"Okay?" Josh said.
"Well, if you wanna do a sleepover with Kevin on weekend, it's fine with us." Tom said. "Isn't it, Jody?"

"And with Steve." I said.
"That would be a tight squeeze with four people in your room, Josh!" Jody said.
"Five." Josh said.
"Huh?"
"Nick wants to join us, too!" I said.

Tom went after Jody and Josh and I ate a little bit more in silence but we had lost our appetite. A few minutes later they came back, sat down and ate, also in silence, and didn't even looked on us. As their plates were empty Jody cleared the table without saying a word. Josh and I felt like the last crap on earth.
Tom then finally spoke: "You've brought us in a very dangerous situation, you know that? But now it is like it is and we have to deal with it. Let's see what Kevin's mum has to tell us."
Then the door bell rang. It was a few minutes past eight. Jody opened the door and we all went to the hallway.
"Mrs. and Mr. Reilly?" Lucy said as they shook hands.

"Well, yes." I said.
"And that's all right with you?" she asked Tom and Jody.
"Why shouldn't it be all right?" Tom said. "We must confess we don't know Kevin yet, but as far as we know our son and his best friends are getting along with him pretty well!"
