RAINBOW ANGEL, part two and end
by Marin Giustinian
May 29, 2018
They woke up exhausted and elated. Their night was an immobile voyage to the core of intimacy, sharing each other's fluid souls.
They went back into town for a few last minute purchases. They bought a bottle of Danish akvavit and some mosquito repellant. In the launderette, they washed and dried their clothes and bedding. Then they went and enjoyed a hot shower. Once that was done, they cleaned Anam Cara inside and out, making her again shipshape for the next leg of their journey.
The fjord was a mirror. The mountains shimmered on the waters as they slowly advanced by motor. They sat, shoulder to should in the cockpit absorbing the awesome beauty of the Nordic paradise they were discovering.
Justin was at the tiller. When Nathan came back in the cockpit to stand beside him, Justin softly stated, "You know, Nathan, what I said to the harbour master wasn't a joke."
"What was that?"
"Don't you remember? I told him that our business here was to find our souls..."
"I remember now... Do you think we'll find them?"
Suddenly, they were startled by the deep, incessant growl of a helicopter, flying low over the water. They were almost at the dock of the only village on the fjord, Tasiusaq Settlement, when the machine landed among the houses in a cloud of dust. It wheezed as the rotor slowed and then stopped.
They tied up, and hastened to join the small group gathered around the helicopter. When they arrived there, the helicopter's motor began to turn again. Nathan asked a young lady standing beside them, "Hello, do you speak English?"
"Yes, I saw your boat coming in. Can I help you?"
"Just wondering if the helicopter is on a regular flight or is there an emergency."
"It's the health service. My cousin's having a baby. The whole Settlement is rejoicing!"
"That's wonderful..." said Nathan.
Two playful dogs began dancing around Justin, begging for attention. Justin readily petted them exclaiming, "What a welcome!"
"Yes, they are friendly! They're like us. We love to meet new people. My name's Ingrid. How long are you both staying with us?"
"I'm Nathan and this is Justin. Glad to meet you Ingrid. We plan to moor a little further on, where Taseruag Lake flows into the fjord, maybe for two or three weeks. We'll visit the glacier and hike."
"It's really beautiful up there. So is the forest at the other end of the lake. If you need help, just ask around the village for me...Excuse me now. Have a nice stay!" she shouted, running off to join the others waving as the helicopter rose and disappeared over the mountain.
A little while later they dropped anchor at the place called Kuussuaq. Straining to scratch the sky, a sharply pointed, lonely mountain, towering like a gigantic wizard's hat, seemed to greet them under its protection.
Justin was speechless, standing in the bow. Nathan came up and hugged him from behind.
"This is where I've always wanted to be, but I didn't know it..." whispered Justin, "Thank you..."
May 30, 2018
It was rather late in the morning when Justin woke up. Nathan had lit the heater and was cooking breakfast. Seeing Justin yawning, then rubbing his face, Nathan softly said, "Good morning sleepy head..."
"Il est quelle heure?" Justin mumbled, rubbing his eyes.
"Almost nine o'clock..."
"What? Nine already..." exclaimed Justin as he threw back the covers and sprung up like a jack-in-the-box.
"Take it easy matey. We both deserve some leisure time now!"
Justin smiled, flopped back in the covers, and writhed some, yawing even more.
"Tu as raison..."
"I know I'm right. While you come back to your senses, here's the plans I suggest for the day."
Justin propped up on his elbows.
"Matey, this morning, while I catch some fish for lunch, I'd like for you to inflate the tender. What do you say about building a fire, enjoying a grilled trout or two? Later, we could drag the tender over to the lake, row to the other end, and spend the afternoon exploring the forest in the valley?"
"That's a great idea!"
The trout were delicious, as well as the potatoes baked in the coals. They pulled the tender over to the lake and rowed along. They marveled at what they discovered. Not only were the landscapes awe inspiring, but also the light. Greenlandic light is incomparable to any other. It seems to actually make things glow on their own. The purity of the air as well as the slope of the beams, hovering on the horizon could be the reason. The immense ice cap that covers most of Greenland could accentuate its intensity. Whatever be the reason, as the sun shone on Justin's flawless, wind-tanned face, he radiated. The light of love within and the vivid light glimmering on the surface of the lake was a vision that brought tears to Nathan's eyes. The moment was holy, nearly metaphysical, as they set foot on the bank of the stream at the end of the lake, entering the shade of the only natural forest of Greenland.
They walked, explored some more and then rowed back towards the fjord.
"Nathan, don't you think we could ride the short rapids from the lake to the fjord. It's only several hundred meters long!"
"Let's go!"
After just a few bumps here and there, they sped back into the fjord laughing all the way. Tying up beside Aman Cara, Justin said, "That was fun! Good God, Nathan! I fear I can never leave this place. What are we going to become after being here, you and I?"
"We'll face that problem later, matey!" replied Nathan helping Justin aboard.
"We are so lucky! Tell me I'm not dreaming."
"You're not dreaming. Do you want me to pinch you?"
"NO! If it's a dream, I don't want to risk waking up."
That evening they took their time bathing each other, and then with a glass of wine, they prepared the dinner which they enjoyed on deck. The breeze off the fjord kept the mosquitoes away. The sky blushed a deep lavender pink as the blue crept in. The light began to dim around ten in the evening. In spite of their exhaustion after such a marvellous day, once in bed, the miracle of their love worked again wonders of tenderness.
Their days and nights flowed one into the other, full of amazement and discovery of nature's masterpieces. They hiked for days on end. The land seemed to be a kind a succession of fairy tale valleys, intact, virginal, full of the energy that only the rare unspoiled spots on the planet now preserve.
They encountered very few other tourists, mostly with their guides. They had little to do with them. They mingled more with the villagers in Tasiusaq for whom it was evident that Nathan and Justin were more than friends.
"Hello Ingrid," shouted Justin as they saw her coming back from the tiny shop, "was it a boy or a girl?"
"Twin boys," she proudly announced.
"Great!"
"And where's your twin soul?"
Justin looked amazed and asked, "Twin soul? Are you talking about Nathan?"
"Exactly! Our ancestors believe that men in love like you two are closer to the world of spirits, akin to 'angels' we could say now as Christians."
"Is it that visible?"
"Absolutely! You are so beautiful together."
As she spoke, Nathan came running up with the jerrycans for water.
"Hello Ingrid."
Justin announced, "Her cousin had twin boys, Nathan! And she says we're twin souls. Can you imagine?"
"Yes, he's right, Nathan. Your love shines like the Northern Lights in mid-winter. We're glad to have you nearby! Now, I've got to run. See you around!" and she darted away, swift as an Arctic fox.
Justin couldn't help giggling as he whispered to himself, "Twin souls -- I knew it!"
The days continued. They fished both in the fjord and the lake. They gathered berries off the land. They loved the ever-changing splendours of the light. They went once to Nanotarlik to refill their food staples and always stopped to say hello to Nalik.
Then one morning, as the date of departure was nigh, Justin was somewhat tense. He trusted Nathan to no end, but was anyway worried about life together after Greenland...
June 19, 2018
That morning they left for a last cruise up to the end of Tasermuit fjord. In view of the glacier, close to shore, they dropped anchor around eleven. Justin returned from the bow, came to the cockpit and said, "Nathan, I'm dizzy over all the beauty we've been living in since we met. It's almost tiring! I'd love so much for us to share that with others."
"Others? Why others?" quipped back Nathan, a bit worried.
"Well, not just any others. I guess you have to be a special kind of man to want to be here, to experience the far North like this. Most men dream of tropical islands, sun, surf and pussy."
Nathan said nothing.
"Wouldn't it be great to have a classical, wooden sailboat, big enough to have a coal stove inside and berths for a few fellows we could take on charter? You know, guys ready to rough it up here? Not a luxury boat, just the essentials. You know a boat like our ancestors had when they came from Europe to fish. We wouldn't have guys with us all the time, just every now and then to keep us afloat financially. It could change the world a tiny bit, for..."
Justin was surprised seeing Nathan silent, staring down at the water. He felt some tension in the air. Then Nathan lifted his eyes saying, "Do you really, I mean REALLY want that?"
Justin immediately replied, "Yes I do, Nathan!"
"You're tired being only with me? Is that it?"
"NO! That's not it at all! It's just that I thought it was a good idea for us to have some kind of a business together, a business that does good for others and for us too."
Nathan continued to stare at Justin with disbelief.
"What's wrong with wanting to work on something together, share a project, earn a living together?" reproached Justin, directly.
Nathan was still silent.
Justin stuttered, "Be it a charter boat or whatever... above all, I just want us to live all the time together, you and me, and create our thing. You know! Work! Period!"
Nathan was upset. He too wanted to live with Justin, and he had enough money for them to not have to work, but now... running a business together? The idea completely destabilized him.
"I'm going back in," stated Nathan, standing.
"Say something, Nathan!" pled Justin following him.
Once inside, Nathan put the kettle on, then asked point blank, "Justin, are you sure it's not just a teenager's dream?"
"What in the hell do you mean by that, Nathan McGovern?" lashed back Justin with a touch of hurt in his voice.
"I imagine running a charter business is hard work. Are you ready to involve yourself all the way in such a project?"
Justin then became outright angry. He stood and stared fiercely into Nathan's eyes.
"Nathan McGovern, listen to me! I came all this way with you and have loved every second we've been together. We've shared everything, our bodies, our hearts, and our dreams together and you ask me such a fucking stupid question? I wasn't born yesterday. In the eighteen years I've been on this planet, down there on that French rock, I've done a lot of growing up on my own. Don't treat me like those spoiled Canadian or American teens I've seen behaving like assholes on school trips to Saint Pierre! Don't you know that when I say something, I mean it? Are you deaf or suddenly stupid now? Of course I can involve myself for the rest of my fucking life with you, man! What do you think I would do if you put me on the plane to Saint-Pierre once the dream's over? What would we become if we just stay on vacation all the time? Loving each other is wonderful, but I don't want a selfish life with you! I want a useful life, doing good, a project! Didn't you ever think about that? And last of all, don't you know that we are responsible to whom we give our love. I feel responsible to you and expect the same from you! Have I been clear?"
Justin had tears flowing down his cheeks. Nathan was still silent. His mind was exploding under his skill. The air was thick with emotion. Justin turned and said as he climbed out into the cockpit, "Excuse me. I need some fresh air."
Nathan left him alone a few minutes as he gathered his own wits. Justin's words hit him like a blow in the guts. They totally destroyed all that Nathan had built as a fortress around him. He had saved every penny in order to escape the system. He had never thought about doing things for others. Justin had blasted his self-sufficient complacency, his fundamental selfishness with his genuine, even juvenile love, his anger, his sincerity and his goddamn, wonderful idea!
He joined Justin on deck. The fjord, the glacier, the light combined to create the most incredible work of nature imaginable. In the middle of all that, stood another fabulous work of nature, a lad on the brink of manhood, handsome as a rising sun staring in the distance.
"Justin?"
"What..."
"We're going to find the right boat and charter it like you suggested."
Justin went pale as he heard what Nathan had just said. He turned around with a look of disbelief in his eyes.
"What did you say?"
"I said we're going to create a Nordic charter business together. That's what I said!"
Nathan stepped closer to Justin and took his hand. Justin's face suddenly beamed as he stuttered, "Mon Dieu! You like my idea?"
"Yes, I do. It's a great idea..."
"Vraiment? I mean really -- really you like it!"
"OUI! YES! We're going to do what you said. Got it?"
Justin flung himself on Nathan, clinging to him like mad.
Nathan struggled to continue, "You trust me. I trust you. You love me. I love you. Together we're going to..."
Nathan couldn't finish his sentence. Justin had grabbed his head and was furiously kissing his face all over.
Justin gasped and then whispered, "Now, I want you in me, Nathan."
Nathan uttered, "What?"
"I want our flesh to unite all the way, the way men unite when they are lovers all the way... I want to be your lover all the way. We have lotion. We have time... Take me, Nathan!"
"And you must take me too, Justin!"
"Of course!"
"I'll be gentle..."
"Nathan, I don't care if you're gentle or not. I need you in me. I need to see your face while you surrender your semen deep inside me! I need to kiss you as mine surges inside you as well..."
Inside, in a flash, they stood nude by the berth.
"Dominate me, tame me, take me, show me how I can tame and dominate you too, so that you can welcome me in you as I welcome you in me, Nathan!"
Nathan took over. He gently prepared Justin's entry with the lotion, opening him little by little. Justin panted, reddened, writhed as Nathan's fingers slid in deeper and deeper. Justin had never felt such wonders. His lust became a deep, devouring pit in the base of his lithe body. Nathan pulled Justin's legs onto his shoulders. They stared into each other's eyes, breathing hard, sweating. An expression of amazed ecstasy exalted Justin's face.
"Oh, Nathan, I have to feel the weight of your body on mine. I have to feel your cock climb inside me, dance inside me, spill inside me. I need you now... Linger no longer or I'll faint."
Nathan trembled as the slippery tip of his cock wetted Justin's pulsating anus. He had abundantly anointed his shaft as well as Justin's sphincter with lotion. His own precum drooled. The entry was easy, just the glans at first. Justin gasped, flinched an instant and then moaned, cooing like a mating dove. Then he grabbed Nathan's buttocks and pulled. Nathan collapsed on Justin. Justin hunched up, driving Nathan deeper in him. He wrapped his slender legs around Nathan's thighs. He moved his buttocks as Nathan's penetrative cock stirred his most intimate flesh. Nathan suddenly began fucking, pounding in, pulling back, faster and faster. He gripped Justin's shoulders from behind. Nathan was lost, entranced inside Justin. Justin's bowels devoured Nathan's thrusts. He bit Nathan's neck, his lips. A kind of savage frenzy seized them both, driving them to the verge of oblivion. Then Nathan screamed. A hoarse howl rose from his chest, splintering the air as his semen, spewed over and over again deep into Justin.
He collapsed, enraptured, panting, eyes shut. Justin cradled him between his thighs, holding him tight in his arms. The slow motion of the boat rocked them softly. Nathan's breathing returned to normal. He covered Justin's sweaty face with kisses. Justin throbbed his steel hard cock, against Nathan's belly. Nathan eased out ever so gently, then whispered in Justin's ear, "Take me now, Justin."
Nathan turned over on his back, pulling Justin over him. Justin grabbed the bottle of lotion, slathered his cock and then Nathan's anus, pushing in a finger, then two, opening him as well.
"Don't bother. Go ahead. Push your cock in as deep as you can."
Justin complied. In one noble thrust, he sank into Nathan and began to instinctively undulate his pelvis, his eyes lost in bliss. His lips snarled in a luscious sneer as his face tensed. He trembled, determined, clawing Nathan's chest. Then came the groan, a kind of guttural growl as he pushed and froze, shooting his semen in convulsive spasms up into the depths of Nathan's conquered body. Nathan's sphincter clamped, engulfing Justin's seething orgasm. Justin, spent, mouth agape, stared down at Nathan with beaming eyes, his cock still inside. Then rose a shout of joy from both throats. They screamed together their triumph! They had slayed the dragons, each of their pasts, welcoming their melded future in an enormous, victorious laugh.
Later, lazily sprawled, entwined together on the berth, nibbling kisses, fondling each other's balls, and giggling for nothing. They felt no need to speak. All was said -- More lover's love awaited, again and again, and that as soon as possible. The afternoon passed in erotic bliss. Later on, two newborn men sailed back to Kuussaq. They enjoyed an abundant, thick soup on the way, drank some akvavit and arrived just as twilight finally gave way to a couple of night hours. Lust overtook again. Enraptured twin souls are definitely insatiable.
June 20, 2018
The following morning, they were a bit sore...
They took their time preparing the boat for their return. They dispersed the fire pit, erasing all signs of their presence. The deflated the tender and stashed it in the transom.
They spoke mostly about the upcoming future, their project. The perspective of revealing to others the spiritual experience of Greenland's rugged beauty excited them. The simple act of revealing natural beauty to others can be considered as an art. In that way, Justin and Nathan were becoming artists.
"The beauty of the light... the experience of feeling yourself become a free human male, a lusty angel, a natural part of nature, that's what we can give," stated Nathan.
"What you just said is so beautiful. I'm going to write it down."
Their relatively brief stay in Tasermuit Fjord had spiritually and sexually cleansed them, as they found their souls. The sun, the wind, the intensity of it all had eroded the crust of self-protection and fear. Finding their love embodied in each other, and above all, cultivating it -- living the fulfillment of filling and being filled, one in the other, brought them to realize that they were reborn to their real selves. Their souls were opened and finally could soar.
"Justin, once we're in Nova Scotia, the first thing we need to do is to find THE boat. Considering the price I can get for Anam Cara and the amount of money I still have in the bank, I'm ready to invest it all to make our project work."
"On our way, I need to stop an hour our two in Saint-Pierre. I'll need to inform my parents of my life now, gather the few keepsakes I have, and that should do. I'll never want to go back, I'm sure... Can we do that?"
"Of course. Do you want me to come with you to speak with your parents?"
"I'd prefer taking care of that chore by myself," Justin replied.
Then, hugging Nathan, he said, with a coy smile, "Your presence will be with me anyway, maybe in me too!"
"Not maybe... Surely!" stated Nathan, giving Justin at least the twentieth kiss of the day.
Nanortalik was in sight.
They tied up for the night, took a hot, sensual shower, and dined in the little restaurant. The next day they would be at sea.
June 21, 2018
They ran their errands, telling the people they knew that they would be coming back the following year.
Their friend, Narlik, said, "You'll always be welcome! I'm glad you'll be coming back," he stated, casting them off. By ten o'clock, Greenland was far behind. The day would be very, very long... the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. The sea was a bit choppy, but the wind, on broad reach, was steady. Anam Cara leaned and sped, giving Nathan and Justin the feeling that she too was glad to be playing in the wind and the waves again.
For the next eight days, they only ran into thirty-six hours of rough seas and rain. They made a stopover in Fogo again. They reserved their bed in the guesthouse, looking forward to a dinner in the restaurant.
"Let's pretend that I'm paying for the room and the dinner. The two hundred euros you promised should cover the expense, don't you think?"
"Merci beaucoup, Monsieur Lafitte! That's very elegant of you..." jested Nathan, halfway serious.
"Avec plaisir, Monsieur McGovern.
June 23, 2018
It was raining when they tied up in the harbour of Saint-Pierre. Justin left to see his parents and Nathan went to replenish their stock of wine and fresh food.
Nathan returned, loaded with a full rucksack and two shopping bags full of groceries. Justin was already in the boat.
"Why didn't you call me to come and help you, Nathan?"
"I didn't want to disturb you... no problem."
Nathan didn't ask Justin about how it went with his parents. He did look somewhat depressed, his eyes dim, his brow tense.
They stashed the groceries and when that was finished, Justin simply asked, "Can we cast off now?"
He was on the verge of tears.
"Come here, Justin."
Nathan took him in his arms. Finally, it all came out. Justin wept like a babe, his head buried in Nathan's neck. He sobbed and sobbed some more. Years of choked anger, sadness, and unspoken reproach exploded. Several very long minutes passed. Justin's tears receded, giving way to composure. He just spoke the facts.
"My father wasn't there. Mother said he had left for the 'Metropole' (a term used by the inhabitants of the overseas French possessions referring to continental France). She said that he got a job on a big time fishing boat from Saint Malo and doesn't think he'll come back alive. She then simply said that since I was grown and gone, she wanted to go live with her sister in Placentia. She said she and Aunt Heather had spoken on the phone and that she could come and pick her up at the ferry landing in Fortune with her car. There, that's all -- Yes, and by the way she said if we pass by Pacentia, we were always welcome..."
"How do you feel about all that?"
"This island was my only home. I hated it, but it was all I had. I'm glad it's over. I'm sad to leave but... I'm confused, Nathan. I had so much wished that my parents could have been like real parents, with love and all... But, I guess that wasn't on my list when it was my turn to be born. So..."
Justin thought an instant and then spoke again, " Listen, I want to tell you something really, really personal. But I'll do it once we're underway. Can we leave now? I want to get out of here as soon as possibe."
"You can tell me anything you want, whenever you want, Justin. Go warm up the motor. I'll prepare the lines."
They eased out of the harbour and hoisted the sails. There was very little wind. The sky and the sea were both as gloomy as Justin's mood. A little drizzle was falling. For a certain time, Justin looked aft watching his home island fade and then disappear in the distance. He then turned and cuddled up beside Nathan.
"Nathan, can we turn on the autopilot and get out of the rain. I need to warm up and talk to you inside."
"No problem, Justin. Go down and light the heater. I'll join you."
Justin had the coffee ready when Nathan came in. They sat shoulder to shoulder on the bench.
Nathan finally whispered, "I'm listening, Justin."
Justin smiled, nudged Nathan with his arm and knee, and began to speak.
"Nathan, I've never been as happy as I am with you. I don't remember ever having been happy for more than a hour or two at a time, only when my mind was busy playing sports or sailing, but now my prayer has been answered, and..."
"Your prayer?"
"Yes, my prayer... you see, ever since I was fourteen or so, especially when I heard my parents arguing or my father grunting while he fucked my mother as she wept, I'd pray to my angel. I was told that there's an angel looking after each one of us. I wondered what mine was doing. Then I figured out that some people have two, even three angels working for them. That meant that others are deprived of theirs. I was one of those. I was sure that my angel must have been on an urgent team job somewhere else and couldn't take care of me, leaving me alone to handle my life. So I prayed and waited."
Nathan was captivated, seeing Justin absolutely serious as he spoke about his angel. What he was saying sounded so reasonable, even plausible, easy to believe.
"So, I'd write my prayer on a piece of paper and send it to my angel. I knew he was hovering just beyond the horizon. I'd always write the same thing: 'Dear Angel, when you have a moment for me, please send me a boat full of love to take me away to a place where I am happy.'
"Then I'd jerk off and shoot my cum on the message to make it holy, giving it the love energy necessary to please my angel and make the message arrive. I'd fold it and take it to the end of the jetty, always when the tide was going out, even in the middle of the night. I'd kiss the message and throw it in the water. In the summer, I'd shoot off on a flower and tie the message to the stem."
Justin hesitated an instant, looked into Nathan's eyes, and uttered, "And then you came... Yes, you came in your boat full of love and took me to happiness."
Tears began to fill his eyes. He smiled, saying, "I'm sorry, Nathan, I can't help crying again... I'm so grateful... to you and to my angel!"
Nathan looked dumbfounded.
Justin continued, "I'm sure your angel and mine love each other too. Maybe my angel had to work some with yours to bring us together. Who knows? All I know is that one of our angels made you read my ad. Who knows which one made your autopilot break down, making you stop over in Saint-Pierre! Ha! "
"And you believe that?"
"Yes, I do... because that's how it really happened."
Justin was terribly convincing as he continued, "From now on, no more woes, no more misery for me! Only happiness ahead! We're flying above misfortune, Nathan, flying on the jet stream of love! All the sadness, all the lack of affection I experienced growing up dug my soul, deeper and deeper, getting it ready to hold all the happiness you've given me. That's a pure, down-to-earth fact."
Aman Cara had tilted some and was picking up speed.
"Give me a minute. I'm going to take a look outside. The rain has stopped and the wind's picking up," stated Nathan, caressing Justin's cheek, "I'll be right back... or I'll call you if needs be..."
Indeed the rain was over. On the horizon ahead a vibrant blue streak of sky promised that they were headed into brilliant weather. Nathan came back in, saying, "All's looking better out there now."
Then Nathan took Justin's hands and suggested, asking, "Would you like for us to anoint a thank-you note together and cast it overboard for our angels."
"OH! YES! We'll jack each other until we cover it with our mixed cum and send it with double energy!"
When the message was anointed, they went topside. The clouds had totally split, and a full rainbow was following them. They laughed and hugged. After kissing the message, they dropped it overboard in the bubbling, giggling wake of Anam Cara.
"Sounds like our angels are laughing!" exlaimed Justin as they hugged, laughing with them.
June 28, 2018
They tied up at the family pier on Tancook Island.
Nathan had called his parents announcing their arrival. He had told them about Justin. They were waiting for them on the pier. Justin was welcomed into the McGovern family like a second son. His mother couldn't keep her hands off him. His father said that they weren't the first gay couple on the island.
"All the fellows here enjoy some quality time as they grow up. The most sincere boys stay younger longer than others. Sincerity in a partnership... that's what's important. You're lucky! You'll never grow up!" replied Mr. McGovern, chuckling as he hugged them both.
Their dinner was just as festive as a wedding banquet, even if they were only four at the table.
Nathan's sisters and children, and some of their husbands, the more openminded, planned to come for a visit soon. ----------
June 29, 2018
Nathan and Justin immediately began advertising the sale of Aman Cara in different boatyards around the bay. At each visit, they inquired also about a good traditional sailboat they could buy for chartering purposes.
During the following days, while calling in at the marina, Nathan bumped into an old school friend working there. He told them that there was a sixty year old topsail cutter, named Rainbow Angel, now on the market in Lunenburg.
"Did you say, Rainbow Angel?"
"That's her name!"
Justin gasped. He glanced at Nathan who discreetly took his hand for an instant. They nodded at each other as the fellow continued.
"She looks a bit tired, but still proud, a real eye-catcher! You should go take a look."
July 3, 2018
As they sailed into the Lunenburg harbour, they spotted the Rainbow Angel immediately. She imposed herself as the ideal boat they were looking for. They called the number on the 'for sale' sign. The lady who answered said she could meet them dockside that afternoon. They agreed on three o'clock.
They all arrived at the same time.
"Hi, I'm Rebecca Campbell, I'm the daughter of the owner."
"Glad to meet you. I'm Nathan McGovern from Tancook. My partner here is Justin Lafitte, from Saint-Pierre and Miquelon."
"How interesting!" she stated, giving them a very warm smile.
Nathan went straight to the point, "How much are you asking?"
Much to their surprise, the price was relatively inexpensive. Rebecca explained that her father had Alzheimers and was now in a specialized rest home near Halifax. She and her brothers, because of expenses, needed a fast sale.
They then went aboard and took a look inside and out of the Rainbow Angel. She was a very sound boat. She had been careened the year before, examined from keel to mast by an expert. Rebecca handed them a copy of the report of inspection. It stated that the sails needed to be replaced as well as much of the rigging and that the motor was in good shape but for security reasons, needed to be rehauled. It also mentioned that the electronics should be updated as well as the life raft.
Nathan saw that he could afford the needed work. They could handle the job of adapting the inside for their charters. They could do the work themselves, including a general paint job inside and out. That would take only a few months. In other words, she was THE ideal boat they were looking for.
Nathan proposed a down payment and the rest upon the sale of Anam Cara. Rebecca called their solicitor in charge of the paper work. They made an appointment and that was that.
They accompanied Rebecca to her car. As she drove off, Justin exclaimed, "Our angels are doing overtime!"
"Tonight, we will too! Let's celebrate!"
July 12, 2019
Anam Cara was quickly sold to a young couple who wanted to go to the Caribbean for the winter. Justin and Nathan moved aboard the Rainbow Angel and sailed her to Chester for reconditioning.
They took first aid courses, studied Danish, and became experts on the rules and regulations for their business in Greenland. They even decided to file for Greenlandic residency and register the Rainbow Angel in Nanortalik. She should sail under the colours of Greenland.
Their cabin was by the companionway, facing the slicker locker, chart desk and galley. They installed a cozy wood and coal stove midship with a central table, benches beneath and two double berths with privacy curtains. They turned the bow cuddy into a sauna and wet room. There was storage space galore everywhere. The amenities inside were tastefully spartan and the general allure of the Rainbow Angel was a declaration of simplicity, strength, and elegance.
They advertised mostly though gay friendly media. It read like this: The traditional sailing yacht, Rainbow Angel, cruising the coast of Southern Greenland, can now be chartered with crew. Departures from May to September included from Narsarsuaq, Greenland, flights available via Reykjavik, Iceland. Spartan accommodations for four in two, private double berths, all meals included. Possibilities for preplanned circuits with guided hikes ashore. For a personalized estimate, please contact, etc.
Their first season, was decently booked by March 2019. They saw that by working only the summer months, they were earning a comfortable net profit to live aboard all year long in Tasiusaq. As Greenlandic residents, they had free health coverage as well.
Their voyage back to their fjord was swift and smooth. The Rainbow Angel was heavier to sail, but at the same time, once she was underway, she could keep a steady eight to ten knots. She was, in fact, way more comfortable than Anam Cara. Not only did she provide more living space, but she was far more seaworthy and stable. The riggings were all winch assisted, and the very efficient autopilot gave them more rest underway. With only two stopovers on the way, they tied up in Nanortalik as Nalik rushed down to greet them. The following day, they arrived in Tasiusaq. "I'm so glad to be back!" exclaimed Justin as they dropped anchor. They put the tender in the water and rode ashore. Ingrid greeted them as well as a few other villagers.
"Finally, at home," sighed Justin.
"Yes, Justin, we're at home."

They sailed to Narsarsuaq Airport marina and spent the night. Everything was ready for the arrival of their first charter, four friends from Toronto, sportsmen in their forties, used to doing outdoor things together. They had chartered the Rainbow Angel for twenty days and wanted to split their time between cruising the fjords and hiking in the valleys. Perfect clients.
Nathan and Justin inspected the boat for the last time before retiring to their cabin. Once they were snuggled up in bed, Justin whispered, "Are you as worked up as I am? I'm so nervous about tomorrow..."
"Not really. What astounds me tonight is that I'd never imagined being here together like this a year ago. It's absolutely, wonderfully unbelievable!"
Nathan took Justin in his arms, rubbed his back and buttocks, uttering in his ear, "Don't worry, matey, everything's going to go just fine!"
Justin purred some, nibbling Nathan in the neck,
"Are you sleepy, Nathan?"
"Not really..." he replied.
Justin hummed, spread his legs, and... and...
Well, that's an old story now.

On the last page of the guest book at the end of the Rainbow Angel's first season, the following entry read: Our crew radiates wisdom, love, and kindness. The waters we cruised are the most beautiful visions of paradise I could imagine. I was on the verge of suicide when my brother drug me along on this charter. Now, I know it's not necessary to die in order to go to heaven. I'm already there. I was rescued in my brother's arms. Nathan, Justin and their Rainbow Angel, took us back to serenity. I'll be eternally grateful to all who saved me, showing me the light.
There was no name. On the last line, the ink was blurred a little, as if dampened by a falling tear.
