Chapter 17.

"I've got a perfect body But sometimes I forget I've got a perfect body Cause my eyelashes catch my sweat They do, they do" -Regina Spektor

"What are you doing?" Henriette asked her son, when she found the entire contents of her once neatly stocked cabinet, on the floor in a perfectly formed line. "I was just taking a bath, but now I'm off to bed." Olli said coolly, as he stood next to the sink. He hoped that Christian had found a good hiding place.

Olli glanced at his mother and saw a furious face, which made him wonder if she had noticed something. Olli tried to stay calm as he frantically dried his body with a striped bath towel. "Oliver! Cover yourself up!" Olli rolled his eyes and wrapped the towel around his waist, before grabbing a fresh one and rubbing his hair dry.

An alarmed Olli, leaped a little when Henriette started to yell. "Did you think I wouldn't notice?!" Olli stared at his mother, mouth wide-open in shock. "Wh...what? Notice what?" He couldn't tell if the drip sliding down his face was bathwater or sweat. Henriette was amused at how nervous Olli seemed. "The candle wax on the carpet. What were you doing? You could have burnt the house down."

Olli's body relaxed as he remembered dropping the stupid candle, the night before. "Yeah, I'm sorry. You had my lights turned off and I couldn't find the bathroom without bumping into things." "Well, you should be more careful. What if it stains?"

Olli faked a yawn and walked past his mother, before entering his room. He wondered where Christian was hiding and he scanned the room with excited eyes. Henriette followed him in and spoke.

"I won't shut the lights off tonight if you promise to have them off at a decent hour. Justus will be up shortly to tend to the mess." Without waiting for Olli's reaction, she exited the room at an alarmingly fast speed; the breeze she'd caused made Olli shiver, as he was still wearing only a towel.

Christian watched Olli playfully search his room for the hidden boy. Olli pretended to look under a lace covered lampshade and asked, "Chrriiistiiaaan...where are you?" Christian decided to let the game last a little longer, in hopes that Olli's towel might slip during his thorough search.

"You can't hide forever!" Olli sang, as he took hold of the heavy floor-to-ceiling curtains that draped either side of the window and swung them forcefully to reveal only the velvety-soft, green wallpaper behind.

When he saw that there was no Christian, Olli turned to the only place left in the room he could be. The large closet was actually Olli's first choice of spots to look, but he'd decided it would be more fun to prolong the hunt. When Christian saw Olli slowly coming towards him with the eyes of a hungry lion, he held his breath in anticipation.

It was taking so long for Olli to reach him, the room being very large, that Christian could hold his breath no longer. While gasping for air, Christian breathed in a familiar scent. Realizing what was giving off the intoxicating aroma, Christian grabbed the red jacket that was hanging in front of him and pressed it to his face.

"Gottcha!" Olli said as he swung open the closet doors, revealing a preoccupied Christian. "What are you doing?" Olli folded his arms in amusement, when he saw Christian smelling the jacket he'd worn on his first day of school. Christian was immediately startled out of his reverie.

"I'm not smelling your clothes, if that's what you think." "Ok...should I close the doors and give you a little more alone time with...your friend?" "Yeah, come back in two hours." Christian demanded, as he took hold of the closet doors and made like he was going to reclose them. Olli caught the slowly closing doors and flung them open as hard as he could.

"Christian, I think it's about time you came out of the closet!" Olli said sternly; the double meaning of the statement, not lost on either boy. "Fine." Christian said sadly; his face resembling that of a depressed puppy dog's. Christian regretfully let go of the jacket and with his head hanging low, made his way out of the closet.

"It's going to be ok." Olli pretended to comfort him, and as he rested his head on Olli's shoulder, Christian pretended to cry. His cries soon turned into laughter when Olli bit his neck. Christian mimicked Olli's bite, his landing on the other boy's bottom lip. As they stood next to the open closet, they held and kissed each other as if the embrace was essential to their survival. Olli didn't seem to mind when his towel fell to the floor.
