-This is a true story. Names and places have been changed.- Chapter 2: Mixed Signals
It took me a long moment to realize that I had fallen into someone, and another, also realizing I was still lying on him. And suddenly my thoughts were shattered by his voice.
"Are you alright?"
I looked down into the pair of deep brown eyes of the guy I was lying on. I had taken one look at his face and my mind SCREAMED. My head was so full of thoughts, that all I could muster was "Oh my god."
Regaining my composure... "Oh my god, my stuff!" I cried, leaping off the guy, running around to gather my things. Knowing any minute the bell might ring, I became frantic "My CD, Where's my CD?!"
I heard from behind my back , "Senshi no Modette? You like Japanese music?"
I spun around, annoyed, snatching the CD case out of his hand. "Give me that! Next time, watch where you're going, stupid prep!" And with that, I stormed off, the black shirt tied around my waist billowing behind me. Halfway across campus-BRRRRIIIING!!! 'Dammit, I'm late.' I thought. I've really come to dislike that bell.
I strolled in the door of 4th period, the teacher playing some sort of game on his iMac. As I cross the room to get to my desk, a girl begins to speak to me, but I am so lost in my own thoughts I totally tune her out. I sit down at my desk in the back corner and pull out my stuff when someone walks in. Already having opened a manga, (for those of you who don't know what that is, manga are japanese comic books) I didn't notice. Then I heard:
"Madison, take the seat next to Watson."
Muttering under my breath, "What the fuck?!" and I look up. Gasp. It's the guy I landed on earlier, in my classroom! 'Why's he here?' I pondered as he began to walk across the room towards the corner. Then, the preps started with their stupid gossip.
"What does coach think he's doin?"
" I don't know, he's lost his mind! "
"Yeah, that new kid is dead!"
" Max'll turn him into mincemeat!"
" Nah. He'll just freak the guy out so bad he'll want to transfer out of this class, just like those 6 other kids..."
( It seems that the other kids think I have homicidal tendencies, I mean geez! Just because I insult every jerk I come across, and because I'm in the office on a weekly basis, DOESN'T mean anything!! I'm a good person...aren't I?? V.V;)
"The pool is open, place your bets!"
"15 on the 21st."
"20 on the 25th."
"5 on the 31st ."
"50 dollars that he's gone by tomorrow!"
The new kid turns to face me, "Hi, I'm Tyler."
I roll my eyes and turn up the music on my CD player, Moon Revenge blasting out of the headphones in Japanese. He hears the tune, and grabs a pen and paper, writing something down, then folds it up and hands it to me.
"Don't open it until lunch."
I reply, "I don't think I'll have a problem with that." Returning to my manga, I didn't give him a second thought, then the lunch bell rang and me and my CD player went to C Gym. On the way, I read the note he had given me, and my eyes went wide. For the second time that day, "Oh my GOD!"
"Oh my god, no way!" Rei said, reading the note. "He wrote this?! This is from Moon Revenge!"
"I know that!" I said. "What does this mean?!"
" It might mean you'll have a new boytoy, Max!"
" Shut up!"
As for that note, here's what it said:
"Nozoma no nara oikakete kite. Ano kuchizuke wa akai tatoo, sadame no yokoku kizamu tattoo. Watashi ni nara hitome de wakaru. Kuchibiru-gata ni itamu tattoo; kakuse nai wa anata."
The translation from Japanese to English:
"If that's what you want, come chase after me. That kiss is a red tattoo that engraves a prophecy of destiny. One look and I'll know. There's a tattoo that hurts in the shape of your lips; you can't hide it."
And at the bottom of the note:
"Come to my baseball game tonight. --- Tyler."
BRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGG!!!!!!!!
Damn that bell. 'What the hell is this kid on?!' I thought to myself as I raced back to the portable. 'Why is he interested in me going to his stupid game?! This isn't making any sense!' All these questions are jumbling in my head as I make my way back to the classroom. 'Maybe it's just a fluke... maybe he just really likes the song Moon Revenge...' My blue hair is whipping around my face as I ran across campus, making a desperate attempt to get back to class before I was late.
The rest of the class period went by without another word from Tyler, though every now and then I would avert my eyes to stare at him when he wasn't looking. 5'9", black hair, brown eyes, he was gorgeous. 'Stop it!' My mind told me. 'You know he's straight as a board. Besides, even if he weren't, he's a prep. Preps and Freaks mix as well as oil and water do.' I knew I was right, and went back to my book...
Before I knew it, 6th period had ended, and I was at my locker getting my books when I felt a hand lay itself on my shoulder and give it a gentle squeeze.
"Hey." I turn slightly and see that it's Tyler, and move to face him.
"What do you want?" I say, slightly agitated from the day's events.
"You coming to the game tonight?"
I tried making an excuse. "I'm sorry, I can't Tyler...homework." Which was slightly true. Slightly.
He looked at me with these sad eyes. "Come on, you can skip homework for one night..."
"I can't, I really can't..."
"Please."
"Tyler, I... I just..." I looked into his eyes, those deep sexy brown eyes of his, and all my defenses melted. "...alright, I'll go."
He flashed me a smile that melted me even further. "Great! I'll see you there at 7!"
It took me 2 years of Drama class to pull off me being enthusiastic about this.
"Great, see you then!" He left the building, happy as a clam. I closed my locker and leaned against it, groaning softly, and sliding down slightly. I blew a strand of blue hair from my face. I felt a big headache coming on. How the hell did I get myself into all of this mess, and how was I going to get out of it?
