RYAN'S ODYSSEY
CHAPTER TWO
I walked out of the kitchen, leaving Ryan sitting there. I knew him well enough to know that everything I had told him to do would be done and then some. He figured if he got everything done, I would forget about the rest of his punishment and he would be out again that night with his friends. Well not this time buddy, I thought.
The first thing I did was stop at the grocery store, pick up a few items, and then I decided to stop at the Video Store and pick up a few movies, since I wasn't planning on doing anything tonight, because I knew if I went out, Ryan would sneak out right after me and be home just before I got there.
"Hi, Tricia," Todd, the owner of the local video store, greeted me as I walked through the door.
"How did Ryan feel this morning. Him and Kyle came in here last night, and he looked like he had quite a bit to drink. I was kinda worried about him."
"Robert brought him home again," I replied. "Lately he has been acting up, staying out later then usual, drinking more then I feel comfortable with. I just don't know what I'm gonna do with him."
"Tricia, Ryan is a good kid, but something seems to be on his mind, and instead of talking to you about it. He supresses it by drinking and disobeying authority."
I had picked up the new one with Richard Gere, and My Dog Skip, since I knew that was one of Robin and Ryan's favorite movies. I paid for them at the counter.
"Ryan has a lot of respect for you," I told Todd, "Do you think you could talk to him, and maybe find out what's bothering him. I think it would help."
"I'll see what I can do, "Todd replied. "Send him down here, and I'll give a go."
It took me more then an hour to finish cleaning my room, finding stuff through all the clutter that I had never remembered owning. I wasn't very good at throwing stuff away, mostly I just tossed it on the floor and forgot about it. It was in the pile on the floor that I found somethings I was lucky my mom hadn't found. There were various pictures of naked teen celebs, in a yellow file folder that I had downloaded from the internet, all of them were fakes of course. I quickly stashed it in the bottom drawer of my dresser, which was my private drawer as my mother had labeled it. It was a written rule in our house, One dresser drawer in our room was a private drawer and nobody else could or was allowed to know the contents of it without that persons permission. After I had finished my room, I moved into the Laundry room, threw a load into the washer, and well it was washing I started sweeping the kitchen. At around quarter till one I had everything she had told me to do finished. I went back into my room, looked through my CD collection and decided on the Billy Gilman Cd. I had heard the stories from my friends about how he sounded like a girl, and only Gay's, Old people, and losers listened to him. But I was one of his biggest fans. I was listening to the Cd, drifting off the dream, when the ringing of the telephone brought me back to reality.
I reached over and grabed the cordless phone next to my bed, "Suttermill house, this is Ryan," I said.
"Hey shithead," the voice on the otherend said.
It was Kyle. He asked me about what had happened, so I tried to explain everything I could remember to him, including my grounding.
"If you grounded, does that mean you can't have anybody come over, or you just can't go out?" he asked.
"She didn't say," I replied, "I'l ask her when she gets here, and then I'll call you back."
Well since I'm making confessions to you, I guess it's time you know my biggest confession. You see I am in love with Kyle Thomas, and have been ever since I first met him in the second grade. Our first meeting wasn't friendly, in fact it was downright hostile. The whole affair ended with us each getting a couple of licks for fighting. As the years went by and we found some common ground, we became friends. I compare our friendship to that of Cory and Shawn from Boy Meets World, we had nothing in common, and in most normal circumstances we would have never been friends, or at least as close of friends as we were. I could tell Kyle anything, and I knew he could tell me anything, except for the one thing I wanted to tell him more then anything.
Kyle was bit shorter then me, at around five-eight, if I had to guess his weight, I would say around one hundred fifty pounds. He had a good athletic build, but had never shown any interest in sports, instead he was always in the stands watching and cheering. His hair was a jet black color, and hung in a disarray around his face. He had got the nickname Specs, because the glasses he had wore since I had known him, would fall down the bridge of his nose, and he was always pushing them back up. To most people, Kyle would have just been an average, normal looking American male, but to me, he was the most gorgeous creature God had ever created.
I guess I had fallen asleep, because the next thing I remember was my little sister yelling at me to get up. Mom had rented My Dog Skip and we they were getting ready to watch it. As I got up, I remembered I had to ask my mother of Kyle could come over and hang out. I knew my mom liked Kyle, sometimes better then me I thought.
"Mom," I said, as I walked into the livingroom,"I know I can't leave the house, but I was wondering if Kyle could come over and hang out with me?"
She thought about it for a minute, before saying,"I guess it would be all right, at least it would keep both of you out of trouble."
"Thanks mom," I replied, reaching over to kiss her on the cheek.
"Well since, Kyle's coming over to hang out, I guess I'd better go to the grocery store and get some snacks for you all," she said, "I know how much you both can eat."
"Can you pick up a couple of more movies?" I asked.
"I don't know what you haven't seen, or what you want to see," she replied, "so I'm gonna make an exception to your grounding and allow you and Kyle to go to the Video store and the grocery store and get what you think you need, but you only have one hour."
I called Kyle up and let him know that it was all right with my mother if he came over and hung out. Fifteen minutes later he appeared and we left to the Video Store.
