Sam and Chris
Chapter 13: Leading with His Heart
I awoke on Saturday morning. Chris was standing by the French doors that led out to a private balcony. He was clad only in his gym shorts. The sun was streaming through because there were no drapes over the windows. The closest neighbors were three miles away!
"Morning, lover boy!" I said to Chris. "How long have you been awake?"
"Not long. I had to use the facilities. It is very peaceful here, and I'm glad your parents are at least going to keep the house." Chris replied.
I went over and stood beside Chris. I was stark naked. He put his arm around my shoulders and pulled me close. "Yea! I especially like you holding me, Chris! But, should we put a few more clothes on and go downstairs to get some coffee? We can sit outside."
"Let's do it, babe!" Chris answered.
We both threw on a t-shirt and some cargo shorts and headed downstairs. My mother was starting breakfast, and my father was reading the newspaper.
"Did you boys sleep well last night?" my mother asked.
"Like a log!" I responded. "You know that bed is a lot more comfortable than the one in my dorm room and the old one that was in my room."
"I'm glad you like it!" my mother replied. "Coffee?"
"I'll get it," I offered. I retrieved coffee for Chris and me. We sat down at the island to keep my mother company.
"So, what are your plans for the day?" my mother asked.
"I'm going to take Chris around the farm this morning. Then, we'll probably go into town and show him what little there is to see there! What are the plans for dinner?"
"I thought we could eat in. We could have steaks or salmon on the grill—which would you prefer," my mother asked.
"I vote for salmon! Chris?" I asked.
"Salmon would be good!" Chris agreed.
"Then, salmon it is! Would you mind picking up the fish from the market on your way home?"
"Sure, mom! Anything else?" I asked.
"I have everything else!" she added. "Do you like apple pie, Chris? I thought I might make one."
"I love it!" Chris enthused.
"Good! I think breakfast is ready!" my mother announced.
We sat at the kitchen table to consume the scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast!
As we were eating, Chris asked, "What does one wear for a tour of the farm, Sam?"
"Shorts and a t-shirt are fine. Sneakers if you have them. If we take the Jeep, we might be a little dusty when we get back!" I instructed. "Ah... Chris, I never asked... have you ever been on a farm before?"
"Well... no... I've seen them from the road, but I've never actually set foot on one," Chris admitted.
"Watch out for the cow piles, then," my father added with a grin. "They can really ruin your day if you step in one! You might want to stop in and say hello to Don, too. He's been asking about how you are doing in school."
"Okay, dad! It would be good to see him again!" I replied. "Will anyone else be out and about?"
"Probably not!" my father began. "Everyone knows that in a few weeks all hell will break loose here!"
"Why?" Chris asked.
"It will be harvest time. Long days and hard work," my father added.
"How many people actually work for you on the farm?" Chris asked.
"Six full-time. Another 10 are seasonal workers," my father added. "I try to keep the seasonal guys on for as long as I can and for as many hours as I can. But, during the winter, there is just not enough to keep them busy. I wish I could let them work during the winter, but I can't really afford to keep them on."
When we finished eating, Chris and I cleaned up the kitchen. Then, we headed upstairs to get ready to introduce Chris to farming!
After we had dressed, we headed to get the Jeep out of the garage.
"How many fucking cars do you have here?" Chris asked after he first saw the six car garage.
"My mother has one. My father has one. I have one. Then, there is the Jeep and two trucks. This is a fucking farm after all. And, it's five miles to civilization... if you can call a town of 10,000 civilization." I answered with a smile.
We walked into the garage and got in the Jeep.
"Is that your Mustang, Sam?" Chris asked pointing to my black Mustang.
"Yea! It was a graduation present when I finished high school last spring," I beamed. "I'll let you drive it when we go into town... you can drive a stick, right, Chris?"
"I never have! So, I will have to say, `no.'" He replied.
"Then, I guess you'll have to learn!" I said as I smiled at him. I clicked the door opener and we headed out to survey the farm.
"First, I'm going to take you around the perimeter of the farm—which is about 8 miles round trip," I explained.
We were gone for about two hours, including a stop at the dairy operation to see Don. Then, I took Chris out to a lake that was in the middle of the property.
"This is beautiful," Chris exclaimed when we arrived at the lake.
"And quiet! It serves as a water supply for the livestock. There is a pumping system that brings the water to the barns and dairy operation. We could go skinny dipping, but I hate the water. It's really, really muddy on the bottom," I added.
"I think I'd rather wait until I get you naked in bed again tonight!" Chris said with a smile.
We headed back, showered, and retrieved my Mustang for the trip into town. Chris refused to drive. So, we roared into town.
"Fuck this thing moves!" Chris said of my car.
"Yea! It's a turbocharged V-8. My old one was an automatic V-6. This is so much more fun to drive!" I added.
We stopped for lunch at the local burger joint. Then, I showed Chris the high school, the library, what's left of the downtown area, the city park, and a few other sights. Our last stop was the market to pick up the fish. We were gone for about 2 hours. I didn't think there was that much to see, but Chris asked a lot of questions.
"Here are the salmon steaks, Mom!" I said as I sat them down on the counter. "Chris helped me pick them out! I realized I really didn't know a salmon steak from a hole in the wall."
"Thank, guys! I appreciate this," mom said as she was pulling out one of her famous apple pies from the oven.
"Oh my!" Chris exclaimed as he saw mom's creation.
"Trust me, Chris, it will taste as good as it looks!" I added.
"What did you think of Sam's car?" my father asked.
"Nice ride. It really moves, too! It's a lot cooler than mine!" Chris enthused.
"I didn't really want to get him that particular car," my mother began. "But, Charlie said it was the dream car of every guy who graduates from high school. Frankly, I think yours is a much better choice!"
"Thanks. Gramps is a BMW guy! My grandmother has one like mine only white. Gramps has two. A black 700 series and a red convertible." Chris added.
"Jesus, Chris! You said we had a lot of cars!" I responded.
"Yea! The convertible was a whim. My grandmother wasn't pleased with his decision to buy it!" Chris added with a smile.
"Chris, will you play a song or two for me?" I asked. "I've never really heard you sing or play the piano!"
"Sure! Besides, I could use the rehearsal time before the show!" Chris answered.
I took Chris's hand and led him into the music room.
Chris sat down at the piano and pulled me down to sit beside him on the piano bench. "This is one of the songs that four of us are doing for the show next month. It reminds me a lot of you and me. This is on the Canadian Tenor's album Lead with Your Heart. This is the second track on the album. The song's called `Lead with Your Heart' by Steve Diamond and Bernie Herms."
IN THIS WORLD
IT'S HARD TO TELL THE SHADOW FROM THE LIGHT
WHAT IS REAL
CAN FIND A WAY TO HIDE BEHIND THE LIES
DONT BE FOOLED
OR RULED
BY VOICES ALL AROUND YOU
CAUSE YOUR ROAD, WILL ALWAYS BE REVEALED
IF YOU LEAD
LEAD WITH YOUR HEART
IT'S THE ONE THING YOU CAN TRUST
TO ALWAYS COME FROM LOVE
AND IT WILL SHINE
RIGHT THROUGH THE DARK
LIKE A NORTHERN STAR
TO SHOW YOU WHAT IS TRUE
YOULL NEVER LOSE . . .
IF ONLY YOU . . .
WILL LEAD WITH YOUR HEART . . .
YOU HAVE BEEN
THE TRUEST FRIEND THAT ANYONE COULD HAVE
AND THE LOVE
YOU ALWAYS GIVE, I WANT YOU TO GET BACK
BEEN KNOCKED DOWN, AND FOUND
NOT EVERYONE IS WHAT THEY SHOW YOU
WHAT IS TRUE, WILL ALWAYS BE REVEALED
IF YOU LEAD
LEAD WITH YOUR HEART
IT'S THE ONE THING YOU CAN TRUST
TO ALWAYS COME FROM LOVE
AND IT WILL SHINE
RIGHT THROUGH THE DARK
LIKE A NORTHERN STAR
TO SHOW YOU WHAT IS TRUE
YOU'LL NEVER LOSE
IF ONLY YOU
WILL LEAD WITH YOUR HEART . . .
IT TAKES THE BEAUTIFUL I'VE KNOWN
AND SOMEHOW MAKES YOU FEEL
YOU'RE HOME AGAIN
FINALLY HOME AGAIN
AND THERES NO LONGER ANY DOUBT
WHAT THE MYSTERY'S ABOUT FOR YOU
OR WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
LEAD . . .
LEAD WITH YOUR HEART . . .
IT'S THE ONE THING YOU CAN TRUST . . .
TO ALWAYS COME FROM LOVE . . .
LEAD . . .
LEAD WITH YOUR HEART
IT'S THE ONE THING YOU CAN TRUST
TO ALWAYS COME FROM LOVE
AND IT WILL SHINE
RIGHT THROUGH THE DARK
LIKE A NORTHERN STAR
TO SHOW YOU WHAT IS TRUE
YOU'LL NEVER LOSE
IF ONLY YOU . . . LEAD WITH YOUR HEART . . .
There was applause from the door of the music room. My parents were standing in the door. My father's arm was around my mother's waist. I think she might have had a few tears streaming down her cheeks. I know I did.
Finally, I managed to say to Chris, "That was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard! I knew you could sing, but, shit Chris, you are amazing!"
"I have inspiration, you know! And, besides, ever since I met you `You'll never lose if only you lead with your heart' has become my motto for life!" Chris said as he beamed brightly. He pulled me closer and kissed me on the cheek.
"Chris!" my mother exclaimed. "Sam is absolutely right. You have a magnificent voice and you play the piano beautifully!"
"Thank you! I love singing! Especially to a captive audience!" Chris said with a laugh.
"Sing something else, Chris. Please!" I pleaded.
"Yes, Chris! I could listen to you sing all day!" my mother said.
"Okay! But, would the two of you please stand over here by the piano. I sort of like to see my audience." Chris asked my parents.
Once my mother and father were standing beside the piano, Chris started to explain the song, "This one I'm doing alone in the show except for a full choir and orchestra near the end. I'm sure you've heard Josh Groben sing this song. It's on his Closer album. It was written by Rolf Loveland, Brendan Grahm, and Amy Sand. It's called `You Raise Me Up.'"
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary
When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit awhile with me
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
There is no life - no life without it's hunger
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly
But when you come I am filled with wonder
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
You raise me up to more than I can be
"Personally, Chris," my mother began, "I like your version better than Josh Groban's!" Again, she was wiping away a few tears.
"Amazing, babe! Absolutely amazing!" I said to Chris as I pecked him on the cheek.
"Thank you!" Chris said with a smile. "I'm not going to do anymore from the show. Otherwise, you won't have to come."
"That's not going to happen, Chris!" my mother announced. "Do you by any chance know `Amazing Grace'? It's one of my favorites from church."
"I haven't sang this in a long time, but I'll try!" Chris agreed.
Again, it was amazing to hear my man sign with such clarity and passion for music. His voice was so strong and warm!
When he finished the song, he sat staring at the piano for a few moments before he explained, "I'm sorry the end was a little faint, but I realized about half way through the song that I hadn't sung this since my mother and I did a duet of this at my parents church. That was right before they discovered I was gay."
"I'm sorry Chris! I never realized that such a wonderful song would bring up so many bad memories!" my mother added.
"Don't worry. I'll need to get over that soon!" he added.
`Now, let me go get dinner ready!" my mother announced. "And, I think it is time for cocktails!"
"I think you have a couple of fans in my parents, babe!" I announced as we headed into the kitchen.
"So, Chris," my mother began to ask, "do you want to have a professional career as a singer? Or, do you have something else in mind?"
"Well, I sort of promised my grandparents that I would get my Masters so I could teach if a professional career singing, acting, or dancing doesn't work out. But, I really don't know if I would be totally happy as a teacher. I am looking into the possibility of getting an internship with a theater group in Chicago over the summer. I have thought about directing or choreographing. And, one of my professor's has a few connections in Chicago, and he is willing to help me explore," Chris explained.
As we were eating a scrumptious dinner, I decided to let them know about the possibility of Chris and me living together. I squeezed Chris's hand, and he squeezed back. "Ah... Mom... Dad... Chris has asked me to move in with him next semester. I told him I would think about it."
My mother was the first to speak, "Some people would probably say that this is too early in your relationship to make a commitment like that. But, frankly, I can see by your interactions that you truly care about each other. And, your father and I were younger than you when we got married. We're still happy! So, while I hate to see my only son grow up so quickly, it should be your decision, Sam and Chris, and your decision alone! Chris, I think the song you sang for Sam says it all, `Lead with your heart!'"
"And, as usual, I agree with your mother!" my father added. "Don't let other people influence decisions like these."
I got up from the table and hugged my mom and dad, "You guys are the greatest parents every!"
"So, Chris, how do you think your grandparents will react to this?" my mother asked.
"Actually, I've already talked to them about it," Chris explained. "They were fine with me asking Sam to live with me—as long as it was really what I wanted. And, I can safely say it definitely is what I want! At first, I liked living by myself. But, after meeting Sam, the place is more than a little lonely without him!"
"And, we will expect you will continue to get reasonable grades at school, Sam! Naturally, we will continue to pay for Sam's expenses—including rent and food!" my father interjected. "And, as his mother and I both know, Sam has a bottomless pit for a stomach!" He was smiling.
Chris squeezed my hand under the table, "So, does this mean you will live with me?"
"That, babe, is pretty much what this all means! Yes, I'll move in with you... On one condition!"
"What?" Chris asked.
"You'll teach me how to cook and play the piano!" I added.
"Deal!" Chris answered and pulled me into a hug.
"Now, I think we are ready for dessert!" my mother announced.
"Chris and I can clear the table, mom!" I said as Chris and I stood and began gathering things for the dishwasher.
When we were finished loading the dishwasher, my mother asked, "Who would like coffee with your apple pie?"
We all said yes and began to enjoy my mother's apple pie. When we were finished, my mother asked, "I was wondering if you two would want to come to church with us tomorrow? It's your choice, but it would give Chris more of an opportunity to meet a few people—my brother, my sister-in-law, and my mother, especially."
"Chris?" I asked.
"Well, as I told Sam earlier, as long as it's not Baptist, I'm game!" Chris answered. "I even brought a tie, just in case!"
"Good! We'll need to leave here around 10:30," my father announced.
"We'll be ready!" I added. "Shall we head up, Chris?"
"Sure!" Chris added with a big grin.
We headed upstairs. We were quickly naked and lying in bed. I was resting my head on Chris's muscular chest. He was playing with my hair.
"You know, Sam, you've made me a very happy guy today!" Chris almost whispered.
I rolled on top of Chris so I could see his smiling face, "You've made me a very happy guy since the first day I met you! I never dreamed we would get this far in a relationship this quickly, but I'm glad we have. I know there are a lot of things that we need to learn about each other, but I, for one, know that we will enjoy the journey!"
"By the way," Chris asked, "what is your favorite color?"
"Red!" I answered quickly. "But, I'm really enjoying the brown of your eyes! What's yours?"
"Green—like your eyes! The other thing I want to mention! The fucking ballroom on the third floor is amazing. I'm thinking this would be a good place for a wedding when we decide to tie the knot! Don't you think?"
"Yea! But, what if you're in a Broadway show in New York? Wouldn't you want to get married there?" I asked.
"Nope! I think right here in cow country in the middle of June three or four years from now would be perfect!" Chris added.
"You know, Chris! All of the moving in with you and wedding[SW1] stuff has made me a very, very horny boy! Would you make love to me again tonight?" I asked in a lusty voice as I smiled brightly.
"Gladly! On one condition, though!" Chris replied. "You have to cum with me!"
"Deal!" I said as I began kissing my beautiful boyfriend.
Chris rolled us over so he was between my legs. He grabbed the bottle of lube from the night stand beside the bed and began to lavish his hard cock with lube. He raised my legs and very, very slowly began to push his hard cock all of the way inside me.
"Oh! Fuck, Chris! You feel so good in me!" I whispered as his balls rubbed my ass.
He slowly began to move his cock in and out of me. Gently. Lovingly. He made sure to kiss me often. He was taking his time, and I was loving every minute of it!
"Sam! I'm getting really, really close. How about you?" Chris whispered between kisses.
"If it touch my dick, I'll shoot all over everything. I'm that close!" I whispered back between his kisses.
"Then, let's do it, lover boy!" Chris answered. "You first. I'll be right behind you!"
I started to massage my cock. And, just as I imagined, I was shooting a load all over our bodies. True to his word, Chris started to cum moments after the last rope blasted from my dick.
"Ahhh... Fuck... Ahhh... Ahhh... Ahhh...!" Chris quietly moaned as I felt his load filling my ass!
Chris relaxed with all of his weight on top of me. I was rubbing his shoulders.
"I think I should call Sawyer tomorrow before we head out! I'm curious to find out how his date with Glen went!" I said softly.
"I hope they have as good of a time as we just had!" Chris added as he rolled off me onto his side. "By the way, can you stay with me tomorrow night? I don't think I'll be ready to let you go back to the dorm—I think I need at least one more night with you."
"I think that could be arranged, Mr. Johnson!" I added.
"One other thing, Mr. Williamson! I love you!" Chris whispered to me.
"I love you, too!" I whispered back.
We were soon asleep.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My phone started screeching promptly at 8 am. I grabbed the phone and shut it off!
"Shower! Dress! Coffee!" Chris ordered.
"Yes, SIR!" I replied as I pulled myself and my gorgeous hunk of a boyfriends toward the shower.
We showered quickly even though I think we were both tempted to play with one another's bodies. We dressed and headed downstairs in search of coffee. My mother was also dressed and sitting at the island with coffee and an English muffin.
"Good morning, mom!" I said as Chris and I both hugged her.
"Good morning to you, too! You both seem perky!" my mother replied.
"We got a good night's sleep!" Chris answered.
"Chris is always perky in the morning! Sometimes sickeningly so on a Monday morning!" I answered smiling at Chris.
"There are English muffins if you want one. We thought we would offer to take you grandmother and aunt and uncle out for brunch after church." My mother informed us.
"Should we drive in so we don't need to come back here after we are finished?" I asked while I made Chris and me an English muffin and poured some coffee for us. "I have a little homework I need to complete for tomorrow's classes. So, we should be on the road by 2 pm—3 pm at the very latest!"
"Whatever you want, guys! If that would be simpler, then of course!" my mother answered as my father came into the kitchen dressed to the nines.
"Why are you so dressed up, dad?" I asked.
"I was told I am supposed to do something like greet people! So, I thought I should look the part!" my father answered as he grabbed coffee.
"Is everyone around here as laid back as your parents?" Chris asked as we drove into town. He asked me to drive his car again!
"Basically, yes! Some people are a little hyper, but not many! This is cow country, remember!" I joked.
Chris was a big hit at church and the brunch that followed. My aunt, uncle, and my grandmother were all eager to learn more about Chris and his love of music. After brunch and after my aunt, uncle, and grandmother had left, my mom and dad walked us to Chris's car.
Again, my mother was the first to speak up, "You know, I am sure, the two of you make a very handsome couple!"
"Thanks, mom! I'll call when we get back to school. And, don't forget Chris's show in four weeks!" I said as I hugged and kissed my mother goodbye. Chris also hugged and kissed my mother. We both took turns hugging my dad.
When Chris was about to get into the car, my father pulled Chris into another hug and said, "Take
good care of my boy, Chris!"
"Trust me, I will!" Chris answered as my father broke the hug.
Soon we were on our journey north. We were silent for a few minutes and then I asked, "Chris, what did my father tell you as we were leaving?"
Before Chris answered, he wiped a tear from his eye, "He said, `Take good care of my boy!'"
"Believe me, Chris, for my father to say something like that is a very big deal. He is rarely that emotional!" I explained as I put my hand on his thigh. "I think you made quite an impression on both of them!"
"They are really special people, Sam! I wish my parents could be more like them... But, they aren't!" Chris said with sadness in his voice.
"I'll share mine with you, how about that?" I added.
"Deal!" Chris replied with his trademark smile returning.
"I'd better call Sawyer and see how things went. Let me know if you need help with directions." I said as I picked up my phone.
"I think I have it. I drive north for like forever, turn left at the gas station, and then onto I 57." Chris explained.
"That's pretty much it, babe," I said as I was calling Sawyer.
"Sammie, dude!" Sawyer answered. "How did the visit with your parents go?"
"Terrific! Mom and dad liked Chris a lot. And, Chris enjoyed them immensely. How was your weekend with Glen?"
"Really, really good, Sammie! As a matter for fact, he's still here. We went out for breakfast this morning, took a long walk, did another five mile run, and finally got back to the room about 15 minutes ago!" Sawyer gushed.
"So, I take it he stayed the night," I inferred.
"Yup, he did! And, Sam, I was wondering if you were going to stay with Chris tonight or come back here?" Sawyer asked.
"Chris asked me to stay with him. Are you going to ask Glen to stay with you tonight?" I smiled as I asked. Chris was grinning for ear to ear.
"That was my plan... if it's okay with you!" An excited Sawyer answered.
"Of course it's okay with me!" I answered. "I'll drop by Monday morning before class."
"Thanks, Sam! Say hi to Chris. I think we have a few things to discuss on Monday evening!" Sawyer said. "Good bye Sam!"
"I'll look forward to our talk. Good bye, Sawyer. Give Glen our best, too!" I said as I ended the call.
"So, I take it Sawyer and Glen's date went well!" Chris said as he swung onto I 57.
"I'm pretty sure. Sawyer asked Glen to stay tonight in our dorm room," I said with a smile.
