'A Second Chance' Chapter 6

Disclaimer: The usual stuff applies. This is a work of fiction, the product of my over active imagination. I am not implying anything about the sexuality of the members of the two bands. If you are underage, please leave or at least make sure you don't get caught. If you are homophobic, what are you even doing here?

How is everyone? I know this Chapter is kind of late, but with school starting I've been really busy. Thanx again to all the people who've been sending me e-mails: it just makes the writing so much more worthwhile. So, enjoy the party. J

The Backstreet Boys were sitting in their limousine on their way to the hotel. They were running a little late because it had taken Nick hours to get ready. Since only Brian knew the real reason for that, all the other guys were making fun of him. Nick tried to smile, but he was just too nervous. His hands were shaking and he was terrified. He took a few deep breaths and told himself to calm down. The only other time he could remember being this nervous was their very first concert. He sighed. He got through that, he'd get through this too.

The guys of N*SYNC were already at the hotel. They were sitting in the large conference room that had been reserved for them. The large table had been removed and instead there were a few chairs and bistro tables along the wall. On the other wall there was a buffet and a cart with a TV and a CD player. Justin had dragged along Britney for moral support and she was trying her best to calm him down. She had just gotten him to stop shaking when Nick walked the door.

"Oh my God, Brit, there he is. I can't do this!" Justin whispered.

"Don't be stupid. Of course you can. Just talk to him." She said, thinking 'How did I get into this situation? I'm helping my ex-boyfriend to get together with another guy!'

The two bands started talking. Soon Lance and Brian were comparing dance moves, and AJ and Joey were making fun of each other's hairstyles. Justin was looking at Nick from across the room, trying to get up the courage to talk to him Finally he just walked over.

"Uh, hi. How's it going?" He asked, trying to sound nonchalant.

"I'm ok. How bout you?" Nick replied.

"I'm fine. We...kind of need to talk, don't you think?" Justin managed to stammer.

"I guess so." They left the room together to find a place where they could talk in private. As soon as they were alone, and awkward silence spread. Neither of them wanted to start, waiting for the other one to say something. Finally, Nick broke the silence.

"I heard you broke up with Britney." He said.

"Yeah. It was because of you." Justin said with a weak smile. Nick swallowed hard.

"Because of the kiss?" Nick couldn't believe his luck. Justin nodded.

"I didn't wanna admit to myself that I'm...attracted to guys. But after what happened it got so hard to deny. So I came out."

"Wow. This is like... a dream. You know I've had a crush on you for like a year?" Nick asked.

"Really? You know what I've been wanting to do for a few days now?" Justin inched closer to Nick.

"I've got a pretty good guess." Nick whispered. The next second he felt Justin's lips on his. Careful at first, then more daring they explored each other's mouths with their tongues. Nick's hands wandered up and down Justin's back, then went under the shirt to touch his smooth, muscular chest. Finally, they broke apart, breathing heavily.

"That was way better than I could've hoped for." Justin sighed. They stayed in that close embrace for another few minutes, just standing still, relishing the feeling of having the other one close by.

"Maybe we should go back in." Nick suggested.

"Maybe." Justin agreed, but neither of them moved. Nick kissed Justin on the cheek.

"Come on, Curly. Let's go."

"Only if you kiss me again."

"I think we can arrange that." Nick smiled and pulled Justin closer. The kiss was slower, softer than the one before, but just as passionate.

"You liked that, didn't you?" Nick asked with a giggle. Justin looked down on himself, noticing the obvious bulge in his pants.

"Hmm, we better wait till that calms down before we go back. Someone might get ideas about what we've been doing out here." Both started laughing. They were interrupted by Howie who came towards them with a cell phone in his hand.

"Nick, I've been looking all over for you. BJ is on the phone. She wants to talk to you." Howie said, handing him the phone.

"I'll be just a second." Nick excused himself and walked a few steps away.

"Hi BJ. How's it going? Yes, I miss you too. Ok, well have a happy New Year. Love you!" Nick hung up and turned around just in time to see Justin run out.

"Justin, wait, what's wrong?" He yelled, racing after him. Justin stopped.

"When were you going to tell me that you have a girlfriend?" He yelled.

"But..." Nick didn't know what had just happened, but then it clicked. 'BJ! He must think she's my girlfriend! Damn!'

"Wait! I can explain." Nick caught up with Justin and grabbed his arm, but Justin moved away.

"I'm sure you can. But I don't wanna hear it." Tears were welling up in his eyes. He'd done it again. Just like so many times before he'd given away his heart too willingly, making himself vulnerable. And now Nick had just thrown it back at him. Without even thinking were he was going to go he raced out of the hotel and into the night. He ran until he got to a small park and sat down on a bench. The tears that were now flowing freely down his cheek mixed with the rain that had come seemingly out of nowhere. Why, why, why? Why had he trusted Nick like that? He barely even knew him. He sighed deeply and glanced at his watch. Ten minutes until midnight. What a way to start the New Year.

Ok, so this Chapter is kind of short, but I had to do it that way because I wanted to leave you on this cliffhanger. Will Nick find Justin? Will they make up in time to welcome the New Year together? Tune in next time to find out! Take care,

j
