Chapter 2

Disclaimer

The usual stuff applies. This is a work of fiction, the product of my over active imagination. I am not implying anything about the sexuality of the members of the two bands. And if you are underage or find the thought of two men in love and/or having sex repulsive, please leave.

I always appreciate feedback, so if you like my story, think it's pathetic, or just wanna say 'hi', e-mail me at scooby00748301@yahoo.com .

Without further ado, I proudly present the second Chapter of 'A second Chance'. Hope you like it!

Justin awoke from the loud ringing of his cell-phone. Sleepily, he grabbed it and pressed it against his ear.

"Who is it?" he asked.

"Were you asleep? It's 4 o'clock in the afternoon." Lance wondered in disbelief.

"Yes. As a matter of fact I was asleep--until you had the bright idea to call me. What is it?"

"For some reason I'm getting the feeling that you are in a very bad mood. So I'm gonna make this quick. Carson just called to inform me that we'll have our interview together with the Backstreet Boys. No, don't yell at me for it. It was Carson's idea. He thought that we should get to know each other since we're gonna tour together in the summer anyway. I'll leave you alone now. Just don't forget, you have to be at the airport at 10am tomorrow morning. See ya." Lance hung up hastily. He didn't feel like getting yelled at anymore. Even JC, who was usually calm and rational, had gotten pissed at the prospect of having to share the interview time with their biggest rivals. He sighed. If they behaved like that over an interview, how were they going to get along with BSB on the tour? Lance started to feel that the people at management must've been drunk when they planned that joint tour.

Right after the dinner, Nick had raced upstairs to his room. Brian, the only one who knew the reason for Nick's sudden disappearance, decided to give him some time alone. But as Nick didn't come out of his room even after half an hour had passed, Brian became worried. He finally walked up the stairs and knocked on the door.

"Brian?" Nick asked from inside.

"Yeah, it's me. Can I come in?" The door opened and Brian entered. Nick stood before him. His eyes were swollen and there were the remains of tears on his face.

"Oh baby. It's ok." Brian whispered and hugged his friend. "It won't be so bad. All we do is sit there and talk for a while and then we leave. You won't be alone with him. Don't worry." Nick nodded.

"I know. It'll be ok. I was just...shocked, but then I thought it over. You're right." He smiled. "But thanks anyway." Brian nodded.

"Anytime. You coming back downstairs with me? The others are getting worried."

The five members of N*SYNC walked down the air bridge and entered the airport. Justin's mood had improved considerably since the previous afternoon and he was looking forward to the interview, which would hopefully take his mind of his problems for a while. The limousine was waiting on front of the terminal and they jumped in, protected from the waiting fans by a few bodyguards. They reached Times Square and quickly vanished in the MTV building. Since they were already late, there was no time to talk to the Backstreet Boys before the show. They hurried into the studio where they were greeted by screaming fans and their host, Carson Daly.

As soon as the door opened, Nick's breath stopped. Was it possible that Justin was even cuter in real life than he was on TV or the countless photographs he had cut out of magazines? He felt Brian jabbing him in the side, and averted his eyes. He couldn't get caught staring! But nevertheless, he could feel Justin's presence in the room and that alone made his heart race. The guys from N*SYNC walked over to the couches that had been put up for the interview, and sat down. Justin ended up sitting next to Nick, which almost caused the youngest Backstreet Boy to hyperventilate. He wanted to jump up and run away, but the red light at the camera start blinking at that moment, which meant that it had started to record. They were on live television now. Finally the first question was asked and answering it helped Nick to take his mind of the extremely attractive young man sitting next to him.

After the show, the two bands were ushered into a small room equipped with a few lawn chairs and a table. Here they were supposed to wait until a later appearance. Lance and Kevin took that opportunity to talk about the planned tour. Soon the members of both bands were in an animated conversation, and everyone was surprised to discover that the rivals weren't as bad as first assumed. Even Nick lost some of his shyness and talked to the N*SYNC members. But after a while Justin turned his attention to him, and he lost it again. Nick had thought he could at least have a decent attention with the sexy singer, but as he heard the voice that was so familiar to him from the countless times he had listened to the CD, he got up and excused himself. Outside, he leaned against the wall and closed his eyes. This was impossible. Not only was Justin incredibly handsome, he was also nice and friendly. Nick had thought that, since he was only physically attracted to Justin, he would be able to get along with him. But now he also found himself attracted to Justin's personality, which made it very hard (literally), to be around him. Suddenly, the door opened and a familiar voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Are you okay?" Justin asked.

"I'm fine. Don't worry." Nick stammered.

"No. There's something wrong, I can tell. You can talk to me, I promise I won't tell anyone." Justin said.

"You don't wanna hear this." Nick whispered. What was he doing? He couldn't tell Justin what was really bothering him, but he also knew that Justin would be disappointed if Nick didn't confide in him.

"Yes I do. Just give it a try. You'll feel better if you talk about it." Justin looked and the cute Backstreet Boy. He didn't want to admit it to himself, but there was no denying it. He was very much attracted to that blond angel and he couldn't stand to see him so sad. Suddenly Nick lifted his head and looked at Justin.

"So you wanna know? Well, here it goes. I like you." Nick drew in his breath. 'Are you insane?!' He scolded himself. 'Why did you just tell him?' A confused look spread over Justin's face.

"I like you, too. I think we could become great friends. Why does that upset you so much?" he asked.

"No, I don't mean it like that. I'm gay." Nick closed his eyes, waiting for the laughter or the screaming or whatever Justin was going to do. But there was only silence. Slowly he opened his eyes, curious. Justin was standing there, his mouth wide open, and his eyes about to pop a look of pure shock on his face. Then, everything happened so fast that later neither of them could remember how it had started. But all of a sudden they were kissing. Justin was too surprised to think rationally, and for a second he enjoyed it. Then, as he realized what he was doing, he pulled away and turned around. Nick opened his eyes. Was this for real? Had this kiss really happened? He pinched his arm and a quick wave of pain flashed through his body. Yes, this was very real. 'Oh my god.' He thought. 'Justin must hate me. How could I tell him? How did this happen?'. Without another word, both guys went back into the room.

The rest of the day was one big blur to Nick. All he could think of was what had happened between him and Justin in that hallway at the MTV studio. The scene played in his mind over and over again. He knew now that whatever it was he felt for Justin was more than just a crush. That kiss had left him hungry for more. And it wasn't just lust, there was also this space inside his soul that demanded fulfilling. And the only person who could do that was Justin.

Justin felt detached from the real world. Try as he might, he could not ban the memory of that kiss from his mind. It had been only a fraction of a second, yet even in that short time, Justin had felt more for Nick than he had ever felt for Britney. And that just couldn't be true. He wasn't gay. He was a perfectly normal guy. He repeated that until he believed it in his head, but he couldn't convince his soul.
