This is the first story I've ever written, I wrote it over the summer of last year and my writing skills have grown immensely. Although this is my first story I've wrote, I have published other stories on here and am current;ly working on one. Under the high school section, I have the One or the Other, which is a current project; Hayden's Story; and GAvin's Got Game. Under the college section, I have The After Party. The latter three stories all contain sexual content.

[Grayson's perspective when she arrives at prom]

I walked through the crowd of prom goers, jumping up and down every now and then to look above the heads of the assembled mass. "Move! Excuse Me! Move it fat ass!" I said as I pushed and shoved my way towards the snack table. The music was turned up so loud I could feel its vibrations rattling my body. Conversation and lyrics were jumbled together in a chorus of a song embedded in every teenager's DNA. Sex, energy, destruction, and absolutely no regrets. I knew I was getting strange looks from other attendees. I mean, it's not everyday you see someone go to prom in jeans, converse and a black V-neck. Hell, I wasn't planning on going to prom, it's just that I realized something very important about someone and I had to come see them... I poured myself a cup of most likely spiked punch and watched the strobe lights flash over the sea of faces. Red. Blue. Green. Purple. Orange. White. Over and over again. I sighed in frustration and ran a hand through my hair. Maybe this was a bad idea coming to find Amy. I mean, I know she's mad at DJ, but DJ's taking her to prom, so I guess she's not mad at DJ?

"Grayson?" I heard someone yell out behind me. I turned around to see a good-looking Asian boy in a tuxedo with a slightly taller blonde guy in another tuxedo. I felt a jolt of elation at seeing Alex and Jay, because you never see them without DJ and she's never without Amy. Well, unless Amy is with me of course. Alex ran toward me and gave me a tight hug. When I let go of him I gave Jay a hug too. "Holy shit, what are you doing here? It's been forever since I've seen you. I thought Amy said you weren't going to prom?" he asked.

I pulled away, "I wasn't, but-"

He cut me off with a whoop and high five to Jay. "HA! I told you Gray would come bursting into prom because she realized she was in love with Amy and had to see her before she left for Northern California. HA! HA! HA!" He yelled while poking Jay in the chest with each "ha".

Jay sighed but smiled and leaned into Alex carefully. "Okay, okay. I get it. I mean, how was I supposed to guess any of this? I mean, Amy is here with DJ isn't she?" he asked.

Alex sighed and put his head in his hands. "Because you're a gay man and it doesn't matter if the girl of her dreams is with someone else. And you watch more daytime dramas then any I know. Wasn't this like on that one episode of 90210? You should remember it since you made me watch it." he exclaimed.

Jay corrected Alex by saying, "I didn't make you watch it. You came over and said it was okay with you."

I felt my face turning red. To distract myself, I let my mind skim over the speech I was going to deliver to Amy when I saw her. Mentally highlighting key points such as, "You mean everything to me.", "I would run to the ends of time for you.", and finally, "I love you."

My mental study was interrupted when I heard Jay's voice. "Okay you were right about Grayson. How much do I owe you?" he said with a lighthearted grin.

Alex pretended to think, a flirty smile on his face. "Hmm, how about another kiss?" Jay looked at Alex as if he were stupid.

"You know I don't like PDA. You're going to have to wait until we get home.

"Pleeeease!" Alex asked like a 5 year old. They soon started to play argue over the kiss. They ended with Alex pulling Jay in for a quick peck on the lips. Kissing. I needed to add some of that to my speech. I cleared my throat, "So, I'm assuming you guys made up?" I asked as I rubbed a hand on the back of my neck.

Jay looked at me, "Yeah," Jay looked scared yet confused. "How did you know we were fighting?"

I sighed. I didn't have time for this. "Amy told me. And speaking of Amy, where is she?" I said a little desperately.

Alex smirked. "She's over there, with DJ, lover girl." He pointed to the tables behind me and I quickly turned around and automatically I felt my eyes widen.

"Wow..." She was sitting in a flowing dress. Every one of her curves were accentuated until they reached those legs that went on for miles. Stray stands of hair fell into her face. Her cheeks were flushed with happiness and her eyes were shining as she laughed about something DJ said. But that smile, God, that smile. I could write a thousand poems, sing a thousand songs, and never be able to describe how beautiful in this and every moment that smile was.

I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder, and glanced at Alex to see him giving me this sad little smile. "C'mon Gray. This is your chance. Take it." he said softly.

I continued to stare at Amy, she was holding DJ's hand and had her head on her shoulder. They were laughing and talking about something or another. I felt my heart simultaneously shatter and soar. She was so happy, but damn she was sad when I told her I wasn't going tonight. But then again she was going with DJ. And I have to catch a flight to Northern California 3 in the morning. I knew I shouldn't be selfish, I knew I should probably just walk away right now and let her enjoy this night but I couldn't. I had to do this or I'll never get the chance again. "Yeah, I think I will." I murmured.

"Then what's taking you so damn long? Go!" I heard Alex say as he gave me a shove forward. I threw my empty punch cup on the ground and started walking toward the table. My heartbeat raced as I got closer to her, whatever doubts I had coming disappeared.

I walked up to the table, and stopped about three feet away from them. "Hey there." I said quietly. Amy's head turned slowly in my direction, and for the smile that lit up her face, I would have went through hell and made a deal with the devil if I could see it one more time.

She removed her hand from DJ's and looked up at me. Her eyes were just glowing with that thing that only she has. "Gray..." she said softly.

I heard DJ's voice break my reverie. "What are you doing here Gray?" she asked happily. I felt a twang of guilt. I genuinely liked DJ, but I genuinely loved her girlfriend.

I shrugged. "Oh you know, I was in the neighborhood and thought I would stop by." I said all nonchalant with a casual wave of the hand. DJ punched me in the arm and I gave her smirk.

"You came." I heard Amy's voice. I turned to look at her and completely got lost in the depths of her eyes. God, I'm going to miss those eyes. No, I'm gonna miss her. Every damn thing. The way she would hit me when ever I said or did something stupid. The way she laughs as I said those stupid things. Those times when it was late at night and I'd be playing guitar for her because she couldn't sleep, and I didn't want to sleep. All of my poetry I read and all of the thoughts she shared. I thought of before she started dating DJ, when she fell asleep on my chest because she wanted to watch 'I love Lucy' reruns at 3 in the morning. And when I knew she was asleep I whispered 'I love you' to her because I knew she wouldn't hear it, so I didn't have to feel bad about her having a crush on DJ. But no, I thought I was just the best friend, that I'd always just be the best friend. God, why didn't I take all those chances?

This flood of memory came and went in a millisecond. I'm pretty sure the emotion will stay a lifetime though. The whole speech, thing. Yeah, that flew out the window. I felt heat rise to my face as I rubbed the back of my neck awkwardly. "Well, since I was leaving tonight I wanted to um," I looked away from her quickly. "See you before I uh, you know, go." Smooth Grayson, way to give an epic confession speech.

"Oh..." she said.

"YouLookReallyAwesome." I said quickly. Oh shit. DJ looked a little taken aback by my outburst and raised an eyebrow. She casually put her arm around Amy. I knew my face must be red, but when I looked down at her face. Hell, I could be sprouting wings out of my ass for all I care.

Amy laughed, "And you look horrendously charming as usual." I think I just died.

All of a sudden a shrill voice called out from behind the three of us. "DJ! Omg, its been so long since I've seen you." We turned around and saw a girl in a tight red dress, that was dangerously low coming towards us. She seemed nice enough, I guess.

DJ got up to greet her. "Hey stranger! Its been forever, I mean since like, what? freshman?" The other girl laughed loudly.

"I know right? You wanna go somewhere and catch up? I mean jeez, you were like my sister my first year here, haha!" She smiled warmly and glanced at Amy. Her smile faltered just the slightest. "Or if you're busy..."

DJ looked at Amy and me then back at this mystery girl. "Um yeah, I'm actually here with my girlfrie-"

"You know its okay Deej. Go have fun! I'll see you in a bit, babe!" Amy grinned at DJ. She looked a little surprised then looked at me again and then back at Amy.

"Are you sure? Because I could just-" she was saying worriedly before being cut off by the girl.

"You heard her! Let's go!" The girl turned towards us and waved, but she gave me a cool icy stare. "Nice seeing you again, Grayton." I glared at her.

"Its Grayson." You should know my name bitch you were screaming it for half of freshman summer.

"Oh Tomato, Tomato!" she gave a high laugh. "C'mon Deej!" DJ shrugged and leaned towards Amy.

"Thanks babe. I love you!" She said as she gave Amy a long kiss on the lips. Ouch, that's gonna hurt for awhile.

"Love you too!" Amy called as the girl dragged DJ away by the hand. I sighed and took her old seat.

"Who was that?" I asked even though I knew exactly who it was.

Amy looked a little distracted. "Oh that was one of Deej's friends. Erica or something like that." She turned toward me with a playful grin. "Hmm, I like you're prom outfit Gray. Very like you." she teased.

I shrugged and grinned back. "Hey, I haven't heard any complaints from the ladies out here tonight!"

She started laughing and hit me. "Hey! The only lady you're allowed to be with tonight is me!" She grabbed my arm and put it around her. I felt my heart pace pick up. My hand was resting against her bare shoulder and she was leaning into my side. I could smell her perfume and then what was distinctly her, something like vanilla and oranges. She rested her head on my shoulder and I pulled her closer to me. I heard her sigh, "I'm gonna miss you like crazy. I mean, who's going to play me guitar at two in the morning on a school night anymore?" she said softly. One of those quiet, sad smiles played on her lips. Lips I'll never kiss, but never forget either.

"Hey, this isn't goodbye. It's just a 'see you later'." I murmured into her hair.

She laughed quietly. "God, you always do know what to say and how to say it. No wonder you have all those boys and girls falling at you're feet."

"The only one falling at their feet is me, beautiful." I mumbled quickly.

She looked up at me curiously. "You say something Gray?"

I grinned and shook my head rapidly. Nice job, Casanova. "No! Not at all!" my voice cracked like a pre-pubescent boy.

All of a sudden I heard a new song come on. It was our song. It played on my iPod when we were lying on the apartment building roof together what seemed like an eternity ago.

"Oh my god, Gray. It's almost the last dance, and it's Tyrone Wells! Isn't that kind of amazing!" she yelled. In that moment, I knew exactly what I had to do. It's going to hurt worse than the speech, more than anything when I'm done, but it'll be so worth it. I shut my eyes and took a deep breath. I removed my arm from Amy, (which itself was hard), stood up and took a bow. She looked at me curiously. "What are you doing?" she asked.

I outstretched my hand and gave her my signature smile. "Can I have this dance?"

This story is a precursor to the actual Shawn's Turn. It contains information that may come in handy for the next part. Also. there are four chapters written by a friend of mine and I will tell you if they were written by her. Please DO NOT contact me and tell me how different those chapters are from the rest of the story and they are written completely differently. If you do I will most likely insult you. :D
