~~The Sixth Backstreet Boy~~
We went down to the lobby, and in 15 minutes a limo pulled up out front. Brian got out and came inside. "Ready to go?" he asked JC and me.
"Yup." I said cheerfully. JC nodded.
"Alrighty then, let's go."
We walked out into the limo and got in. "Hi Justin." Nick greeted. "Hi JC."
"Hiya." I said. JC nodded to him.
"Y'all ready to go swimming?" AJ McLean said.
"Yup." I nodded. "Where exactly are we going, the public pool?"
"Yep, that's where we're going." AJ said. "What a perfect li'l swimmin' hole. Not only can we get mobbed by fans, we can also cause a ton of rumors to why BSB and *Nsync are swimming together."
"Sounds like loads of fun." JC remarked.
Brian laughed. "No, we're going to the beach. We were there earlier for a photoshoot, and they said we could come back later with some friends and swim if we wanted to. It's a private beach, so no one should bother us."
"And here's lunch." Nick motioned to a picnic basket. How corny. "You guys like fried chicken and sandwiches?"
"Yeah." I nodded. JC nodded too.
"Um, we should all probably get introduced." Brian's cousin said. "I'm Kevin Richardson, Brian's cousin."
"Howie Dorough." Another guy said.
"AJ McLean."
"Nick Carter."
"B-Rok."
"Justin Timberlake." I said.
"JC Chasez." He said, almost the first words he's spoken since the BSB had picked us up.
"I have your CD." Brian announced.
"Which one?" I inquired.
"The last one."
"'No Strings Attached'?"
"Um...yup." he flipped through a CD wallet. "Hey, when's the new one's release date?"
"March 23rd." JC answered.
"Going to get it?" I asked.
"Is it good?" Brian asked back.
"No Brian, the whole CD sucks." I said dryly. "It's the worstest CD ever. WHAT DO YOU THINK?" I said. "Of course it's good. I think you should get it."
"Okay then I will." He nodded, then thought better of it and added, "Smart ass."
"My ass is no smarter than yours." I shrugged.
"Aint that the truth." Nick laughed.
"Cram it." B-Rok said evenly.
"You know what's a good way to get to know someones?" Nick said.
"Their police record," I said.
He chuckled. "No, play Truth or Dare."
"Fun!" Brian yelled. "That's fun, let's play that."
"Yeah Brok we want to play Truth of Dare with two homosexuals." Kevin said dryly.
"Three." I corrected.
"Who else is gay?" he said confusedly.
"Your mom."
"Justin!" Brian laughed.
"Okay okay sorry. It's me, though." I admitted.
"Really?" he looked at me.
I nodded. "Yeah I'm gay too...that's not a problem, is it?"
"Uh, no, not really. Nick and Brian are, and it's okay." Howie said. "Is that a secret, though? Absolutely no telling anyone else?"
"Yes." I said. "We-I really don't want the world to find out."
"Okay." Howie sat back.
"Let's play Truth or Dare." Brian said.
"Okay." I said.
"I'm in." Nick said.
"Me too, I guess." Howie and AJ said simultaneously.
"Why not." Kevin sighed.
"JC? You want to play?" B-Rok said.
"Sure." He shrugged.
"Me first." Brian said. "Justin, truth or dare."
"Truth."
"When was the last time you had a relationship?"
"Hmm...two years ago. With a girl. No one knew about me yet."
"Girl, yuck." Brian made a face.
"Oh yeah, and you were going to marry one!" Nick said. "Bi-sexual!"
"Not! You can just...blow me."
"Nah." Nick said nonchalantly.
"Your turn Justin." AJ said boredly.
"Okay. Brian. Truth or dare."
"Dare. Of course." He flashed a smile at me. "Since you don't know me that well, let me tell you. I am the Truth or Dare king. I will do anything."
"That's true, he will." AJ confirmed.
"Oh reeeeeally." I grinned evilly. "Okey dokey. Hmm. Okay, I dare you to...kiss AJ."
"What!" AJ said. Brian leaned forward and kissed him on the lips quickly. "AGH! BRI-AN!" AJ complained.
"He dared me to." He said casually. "My turn, JC truth or dare."
"Hmmm...truth. and be nice."
"Oh I will. look at this face." Brian pointed to his face. "Would I do that you you?"
"Oh boy." JC groaned.
Brian laughed. "Ha ha ha. Hmm...are you a virgin?"
"That's none of your business."
"Uh, JC are you aware of how truth or dare is played?" Nick said. "You're supposed to ask questions that are none of your business."
"Well I don't want to answer that."
"You have to. Or you get a Double Dare that you have to do."
"Fine. Double Dare me."
"Okay." Brian said. "I dare you to...eat some sunscreen."
"Here, have mine." Nick passed JC the bottle. "It tastes a little like coconut."
JC gave Nick a weird look. "You've tasted it?"
Nick shrugged. "He dared me to."
"Hey Brian." I said, remembering a wonderful joke.
"What?" he looked at me.
"You have a dickfor on your face." I said, perfectly straight faced.
"A what?"
"A dickfor." I said, enjoying myself.
He looked puzzled. "What's a dickfor?"
I gasped. "What? How can you say that? Are you sure you're a guy or you're gay?"
He looked blank a moment, then cracked up. "That's very very funny Justin. Where did you hear that?"
"I don't remember."
"Good one." Nick said appreciatively, laughing. The others were either laughing or laughing and shaking their heads. JC was one of the latter.
Soon we were at the beach. We all got out, and Brian told the driver to come back for us at five o'clock, after checking with JC and me to see if that was okay.
"Ooh, sand!" I said.
"What did you think there would be at a beach?" AJ said to me darkly.
I shrugged, then smiled. "I don't know, I just was feeling like a child and wanted to play in the sand. Hey, anyone want to build a sandcastle with me?" I called.
Brian was taking his clothes off down to his boxers. In a moment I found myself staring at his muscular body. I couldn't look away. I tore my eyes away finally when I heard someone calling my name.
"Wha?" I said, looking around dully.
"Going swimming in your clothes?" Nick asked, pointing to my outfit. I looked around. Everyone else had already stripped down to their swimwear. I pulled off my shirt and put my clothes folded neatly in a pile by my towel and stuff.
"Will someone please put sunscreen on my back?" Brian called, holding his bottle. He looked at me. "Justin? Will you?"
"Uh, sure." I said. He handed me the bottle and turned around. I squirted some into my hand. "Hey, it's that stuff that turns you blue!"
"Yup. Make sure and rub it in good."
I got to work. "Is it waterproof?"
"No, I wanted to put on sunscreen that would wash off." He said sarcastically. "No duh genius."
I got done. "There. I did you, now you do me." I picked up my sunblock.
Five heads were turned to Brian and I, each one with a funny look on his face. "What?" I said.
"Uh...your last sentence didn't sound quite right, bud." Nick said.
"You guys need to get your minds out of the gutters." Brian said nonchalantly. He took my bottle from me. "Turn around." He said to me. "Shut up." He said to the others.
I turned, and he put sunblock on my back. "Done." He announced after a moment.
I put my bottle back. "Thanks. Hey, want to help me build a sandcastle?"
He smiled. (By the way, I sure thought he looked really good when he smiled, which was often.) "Sure." He said. "Nothin' like a trip to the beach to make you feel six years old again, huh?"
I smiled back at him. "Yup." I agreed. Him and I walked to the shore. I plopped down and started digging a hole for the moat and putting the sand aside for building and shaping later.
"Hey Nick." Brian called. Nick was in the water, repeatedly dunking AJ and laughing. He looked over to Brian, and AJ dunked him.
"Hey!" Nick said.
Brian laughed. "Hey Nickers, want to help me and Justin build a sandcastle?"
"Sure." He said. He swum to shore and walked out, dripping. He plopped down and began helping me dig a moat. I looked around to take inventory of our friends. Howie and AJ were swimming, and JC and Kevin were sitting on towels talking.
"So..." Nick said conversationally, looking at me. "You're gay?"
"Yeah."
"How come you don't want to come out?"
I shrugged listlessly. "I just don't. Hey anyway, why to they call it 'coming out'? That kinda sounds like an erection."
Brian choked back a laugh. "It comes from the saying, 'coming out of the closet'." He explained.
I looked confused. "But I was never in a closet."
"It doesn't mean you were. Like, twenty or thirty years ago, gay people would have to hide in a closet to be kissin' on their lovers, cause they didn't want anyone to find out they were homosexual."
"OH." I nodded.
"Can I ask you a personal question Justin?" Nick said, still digging in the sand.
"You can sure as hell try."
"Have you ever gotten an erection over a woman?"
"No. Have you?"
He shrugged. "Once. When I was about 18. Not ever since then."
"Only for guys?"
"Yeah."
"Have you always been gay?"
"Well, no. I was bi-sexual until..." he looked at Brian. Brian shook his head quickly, not wanting me to see but I caught it anyway. "Until I was 19." Nick finished. "I never really like girls since then."
"Ever had a relationship with a girl?"
"Oh, sure."
"Slept with them?"
He shook his head. "Nope. I've always wanted to wait."
"For what?"
He shrugged again. "Until I was sure I was in love and wanted to be with that person for the rest of my life, or I was married."
"Ever kissed a woman?"
"Of course."
"Made out with one?"
"Yeah."
I thought a moment. "Ever kissed a guy?"
"Sure, yeah."
"Made out?"
"Yup."
I paused. "How far have you gone with a woman?"
"Oral sex."
"EWWWW!" I exclaimed. "You did it to her?"
"For her, yeah."
"Ick ick yuck." I expressed my opinion. "Yuck times infinity. Why'd you do that?"
He shrugged. "She did it for me first, so I reciprocated."
"Yuck." I said. "How far have you gone with a man?"
He sighed, chewing on his lower lip. "I almost made love to this one guy once."
"And you didn't?"
"No. we were going to. I loved him more than anything else in the world, and he told me the felt the same. I believed him. One night we were kissing and cuddling, and we both just felt ready. He said he loved me and wanted me to, so I would. I was holding him and we got into position. I even got inside of him. We were about to, then he stopped me, and said he wanted to wait until we might be married one day. He said he loved me and wanted to save it. That surprised me, and touched my heart, cause I believe the very same thing so much."
"So what happened?" I asked after a pause.
He sighed wistfully. "Nothing that night. We just cuddled. I stayed in him awhile the got out and we went to sleep. A week later he broke up with me."
"Oh." I said, feeling dumb. "I'm sorry."
He shrugged. "He wasn't mad at me or anything. He said he still loved me and always would, and I believe him."
"Then why'd he dump you?"
He looked slightly annoyed. "I don't really care for that word, Justin. Please don't use it around me."
"Oh, I'm sorry. Then why'd he break up with you?"
he kinda shrugged. "Just because. I never was too clear on that. We're still friends though, good friends. But I haven't been with anyone since him. I loved him with all my heart, and I still do. I don't think I would be able to love anyone else besides him." He sighed.
"Damn, bout of you sure are hung up on your old guys." I commented.
"I loved him." Brian and Nick said simultaneously.
"How really observant of you to notice." I snorted. "What was his name?"
"I'd rather not say."
"Same here." Brian said quickly.
"When were you seeing him?" I asked Nick.
"From when I was 19 till I was 21." He said.
I looked at Brian. "When were you seeing your guy?"
"From the time I was 24 until I was 26."
"Hey Nick, how old are you now?"
"Twenty-two. You?"
"Twenty-one. When's your birthday?"
"January 28th, 1980."
"Mines January 31st, 1981. You're one year three days older than me."
"Yeah." He nodded.
"Ever been with a woman Bri?"
"You mean despite the fact I was going to marry one a year and a half ago?"
"Yeah. Hey, why'd you break up with her?"
"I told her I was bi-sexual and she didn't like it."
"You're bi-sexual? I thought you was gay."
"I am."
"Um...question mark." I said.
"Question mark?" he repeated, confused.
I laughed. "Oh, that's just something I say when I'm confused."
"Oh. Well, I've been gay my whole life. I didn't come out until September of 2000. I was 25 years old. I was seeing my ex-boyfriend then, but I was also engaged to my ex-fiancée Leighanne. Don't look at me like that, I had to start seeing her so I wouldn't cause suspicions. I didn't want anyone to know about me yet. I didn't do anything intimate with her except a few kisses and cuddles every now and then. I was slightly attracted to her, and she was very sweet and very good-looking. Plus, I thought if she would be angry when I told her the truth of my sexuality, she might not be as angry I if I said I was bi-sexual than I was gay. Trust me, she was plenty angry as it was with bi-sexual, I didn't want to find out what she'd do with homosexual." He explained. "So we broke up."
"Did she know about your other guy?"
"No. What do you think she would do with that?" he snorted. "She'd think I was cheating on her, when in reality I was cheating on him cause he was first. He knew about her, and he loved me so much he understood and didn't mind, as long as I promised I didn't get any more sexual with her than I absolutely needed to. I promised I wouldn't and kept my promise to him."
"How far have you gone with a girl?" I asked Brian.
"Cuddled."
"With a guy? Kissed a guy?"
"Of course."
"Make out?"
"Hell yeah!"
I chuckled. "Sex?"
"What kind?"
"Oral?"
"No."
"Anal?"
"Almost."
"Oh really what happened?" I asked interested.
"I'd rather not talk about it." He said glumly. He looked up at me. "Aren't we the nosy type today."
I shrugged. "I'm just trying to get to know you guys."
He snorted. "Okay, I give you that one. What about you. Ever been with a girl?"
"Ever been with a guy?" Nick chimed in.
"Ever kissed a girl?" Brian continued.
"Ever kissed a guy?" Nick also did.
"Whoa, wait a-" I started to say.
"Ever cuddled with a girl?" Brian ignored me.
"Ever cuddled with a guy?"
"Ever made out with a girl?"
"Ever made out with a guy?"
"Ever had oral sex with a girl?"
"Ever had oral sex with a guy?"
"Ever had intercourse with a girl?"
"Ever had intercourse with a guy?"
Stop. I sat there, staring at them, waiting for them to finish. I opened my mouth.
"Didja?" Brian said, sounding like a hyper six-year old. "Didja Didja Didja?"
"Didja ever?" Nick said in the same tone.
I waited. Silence. "Are you done?" I asked them irritably.
"Oh relax Justin." Nick said smiling. "That's about what you guys were doing."
"Was not." I said sulkily.
"Oh we're just teasing you, bud. Chill out." Brian said.
I sighed. "I don't like to be teased."
"We didn't mean anything," Nick said.
"I just cant take being teased." I honestly said.
"Oh? Why not?" Nick said. "Question mark." He added with a grin.
I smiled, then was solemn. "It's...it's just..." I sighed. "Nick, what do Howie and AJ and Kevin and Brian think of your being gay?"
He looked surprised. "They're fine with it. They all said that they would be my friends cause they liked me as a person. And my sexuality doesn't matter, and it wouldn't matter unless I made it matter. A not so subtle hint."
"In other words, hands and eyes off and no problem." Brian clarified. Nick nodded.
"See, they still like you and want to be your friends." I said. I sighed. "I'll be right back, don't move a muscle." I got up, went to the shore, got some water in my cupped hands and washed off that foundation I had to put on my face so no one would know that I was hit. I washed it off my arms and the red welts showed plainly. I dripped and splashed it off my back so my reflection showed that it was all off. The water now had a peach-ish cast to it. I got up and came back to the sandcastle, and sat.
Nick gasped when he saw me. Brian just kind-of pressed his lips together and didn't say anything. I sighed. Nick just looked at me. I turned a little so he could see my back. His eyes bugged out and he looked shocked. "Who did that to you?" he managed to ask.
I sighed. "Lance, Chris, Joey and JC."
"The other *Nsync guys?"
I nodded.
"Why'd they do that to you?" he sounded disgusted.
"They think I'm a faggot. You see Nick, not all people don't mind homosexuality. The other guys in my band certainly do mind it. I'm not allowed to talk. If I do, they'll hit my in the mouth. If they think I'm looking at them, they'll beat me up. There is a huge difference in getting hit and getting beat, let me tell you. Most of their contact to me is the latter." I said, sighing. "If they tell me to talk, and they think my commentary is in the least bit smart, they'll hit me. Or if I was intentionally sarcastic, which sometimes I tend to do, and you would to if you were subject to the kind of treatment I am, but if I'm intentionally smart, instead of hitting me they'll beat me."
"How often do they do that?"
"About every day, more or less."
"Did you ever ask them to stop?"
"Sure. But then I got it more for talking back."
His eyes widened. "That's harsh, bro."
"I know." I sighed again. "That's why I cant fight back. There's four against one, so what's the use? If I even tried to fight back, I'd get it worse. I just have to take it."
"So turn them in."
"That's what I told him, but he won't." Brian said.
Nick looked at him. "You knew about this?"
He shrugged. "Yeah. He told me at Lou's party. You remember when I found his wallet? Later he waved me over and asked me to talk to him so he wouldn't have to leave with his *Nsync buddies, so I did, which they didn't seem to like, let me tell you. And then he told me they hit him and they wanted to leave the party so they'd go home and hit him, so I talked to him said I'd drive him back later. Then after I asked why they hit him he said all of what he told us, and I told him I wanted to be his friend, which I do, and he trusted me, and then I had to take him home."
"Oh." Nick looked at me. "Why don't you turn them in for assault and battery?"
I shrugged listlessly. "Why bother? All that'll do is cause more trouble. And the world would find out about me. My bandmates would definitely hate me more. And I figure. Maybe if I put up with it long enough, they'll realize I'm not a fag, I'm just a normal guy, a nice normal guy and they'll be sorry and stop hitting me."
"Not bloody likely, from the looks of this." Nick said, tipping my chin up and looking at my bruises.
I shrugged. "Yeah well you never know."
"Lunchtime!" Kevin called.
I looked down. Our sandcastle was finished, and what a beaut it t'was! "What time is it?" I inquired.
Brian looked at his watch. "It's one o'clock."
"Ah. Cool." We got up and sat on a sheet Kevin had spread on the sand.
"What?" JC spoke up. I looked over to him. He was looking at him. Nick was giving him a dirty look. He didn't say anything, just glared at him a second longer and changed his expression and asked Kevin what all there was.
"Um, cold fried chicken, pbj's, hot dogs w/buns and condiments, potato salad, tuna fish, coleslaw, chips and dip, cookies and jell-o." he listed. He looked at me. "I'm serving. What do you want? And what the hell happened to your face?"
"I sleepwalk. I fell down the hotel stairs." I said immediately, half-grinning. That was the story I always used when somebody noticed. Nick gave me a weird look and I gave him a hard one, telling him (not aloud) that no one else could know.
"Justin? Food?" Kevin said.
"oh. Uh, hot dog with ketchup, potato salad, jell-o and some chips."
He served me. "To drink?"
"Kool-Aid."
"Grape or Strawberry?"
"Uh, strawberry."
He gave me a paper cup with a reddish liquid in it. I took it and sat down between Brian and Nick. "What do you want Brian?"
"Fried chicken."
"Okay...I have one leg, three breasts and a wing." Kevin said.
Brian gave him a funny look. "How do you find clothes that fit?"
Everyone cracked up. That was funny. "Ha ha ha." Kevin said, and served Brian and everyone else.
"Hey, the Kool-Aid's warm!" Brian exclaimed. "Yuck." He tossed the liquid over his shoulder, hitting me in the face and dripping all over me. Nick and AJ started laughing, spitting out their drinks in the process. Howie and JC looked around, saw me, figured out what had happened, and started laughing too. Brian turned around and realized what he did, laughing, covering his mouth.
"I'm sorry!" he cracked up.
"Go wash your face." Kevin pointed out to the ocean.
I just looked at him, then saluted. "Sir yes sir!" I said, and went and threw some water on my face, hair, and chest. I came back and sat back down. Nick had his back turned to me and was staring off into space. I bet you're thinking "so what, ask me if I care what Nick is doing." Well, here's why you need to.
It was pretty quiet. Just the sounds of chewing and gulping lemonade and an occasional belch when Nick suddenly blurted out, "Am I the only one who thinks Justin is really cute?"
I choked on my hot dog.
"Yes." JC said darkly to Nick. The others were watching with interest, but I knew they'd be laughing when Nick realized I'd heard him. (Heard him, I was right behind him! He nearly killed me!)
"I'm afraid I'm gonna have to 'yes' on that too, bud." AJ said.
Nick rolled his eyes. "I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to Brian." He looked at Brian, totally not seeing me. "Do you think Justin is cute?"
Brian took a solemn sip of lemonade. "Well, I don't know, why don't you ask him?"
I coughed up my bite of hot dog. Nick looked at me blankly. I gave him a funny look. Then his expression changed as he realized I'd been two feet away from him the whole time. He threw his hands over his face and looked away fast.
"Oh, god!" he said. "I'm sorry! Damn *Nsync twinky, why'd you have to hear that?"
"Twinky yourself." I said, totally nonchalant about it, like it happened everyday {Which it didn't (duh) and this was quite interesting to say the least}.
"Well I didn't know you was there!" he protested.
"Obviously!" I remarked. Pause. "Are you interested?"
His eyes slid over to me cautiously. "Maybe."
"You wont get much for a maybe, I'm telling you that right now."
He shrugged. "I don't know, all I said was I think you're really cute."
"Yeah well I think Brian's really cute but you don't hear me asking if I'm the only one who thinks so." I retorted.
"You're not." Nick said.
"I think you just did." Brian told me calmly at the same time.
I rolled my eyes at Brian. "I know I just did. That was my way of telling you that. I'm not the kind of person who's going to go-" I then put my hands on Brian's shoulders and turned him towards me, fast "-Brian, I think you're a sexy thang, baby!" I said enthusiastically in a stupid voice, totally (yea!) freaking him out. I let him go and managed to look completely uninterested, looking at the ocean and sipping my strawberry Kool-Aid.
"Justin are you on drugs?" Kevin asked me totally serious.
I tried to look stoned. "Whaaaat?" I dragged out.
JC, AJ and Howie could hold it in no longer. They cracked up laughing. They laughed so long and hard I was beginning to wonder how they were breathing. Then Nick started to howl in laughter. I managed to put on a totally innocent blonde boy look and Brian looked unhappy.
"What's up with you?" I asked Brian when the others calmed down.
He looked at me, and his disquiet made me bad anxious, although I don't know why. "Are you interested?" he said finally.
I was confused. "Um...question mark. Interested in what?"
"Me." he said solemnly.
It was suddenly deathly quiet, and I really didn't like it. "Um...do I have to be interested to think you're really cute?"
He remained solemn and spooky for a moment longer, then shrugged and looked away. "I suppose not." He sighed.
"Um...good." I said, really glad he decided not to press it, because the truth was, I wasn't exactly sure if I was or wasn't anymore...
