"Hello LA " I yelled as the crowd went nuts. "How ya feeling tonight? " I asked as the crowd went crazy again. "Well thanks for coming out tonight and I hope you enjoy the show," I said as the band started playing the music for my first single and my dancers came out from backstage.
I looked over and made sure they were all ready as our cue came up. I went into the first 3 dance song hard and made sure every move was perfect. By the end of the 3rd song I was happy that we set up every 4th song would be a slow number. For the first number I was sitting on a stool, which I was thankful for.
As I looked out over the crowd, most of the signs I saw were for Justin. But what surprised me the most was that there were signs for me too. I had a few marriage proposals and "I love you," signs which made my heart smile.
Before I knew it, my part of the show was over. After I bowed for the last time I walked off stage energized and feeling great. That was, until I ran into Justin.
"Great show." He smiled at me.
I mumbled something around the way of thanks and walked past him. I ran into the tour manger and accidentally knocked him over.
"I'm sorry," I said as I made sure he was ok.
"It's cool don't worry about it." He looked up at me and smiled. "Amazing show," he said.
"Thanks," I said really appreciating his comment. "Hey, so what now, I'm kinda new to this tour stuff. Do I have to go out and watch the show or do I have to go back to my dressing room and wait?" I asked.
He laughed at me. "You're too much like a kid on the first day of school. It's up to you; we're pretty much here for you. The tour bus is here if you wanna go check it out," he said as my face lit up.
"Wow my own tour bus?" I said in awe.
"Not exactly, since it's you and JT. The label figured that you and he would share a bus and the band would get another bus," the tour manager explained.
My face fell. Great I get to share the bus with the big ass. The tour manger (Ian) saw this and said "I thought you guys were getting along great."
"I thought so too," I shrugged. "But who knows," I said.
"I see." I knew he knew there was more to the situation then I was telling him, but he didn't push.
"I am going to go check out the bus," I said as I tried to get away from his stare.
"Ok," he said.
After taking a shower and changing to board shorts and a t-shirt, I decided that I'd head out to the bus. I walked out the backstage door and nearly went deaf when the screams hit my ears. I looked around; I knew the show wasn't over, so I assumed that these were the kids who couldn't get tickets to the sold out show.
I really wasn't in the mood to deal with fans right now so I just high-tailed-it to the bus. I was greeted by the driver. I introduced myself to him and we talked. After spending a few minutes I decided to go check out the rest of the bus. I walked back and saw that there was a lounge area with a couch and a plasma TV on the opposite wall.
"Wow traveling in style I see." I continue to walk back and saw two full size bunks on both sides of the bus. I assumed this where I and Assman (as I started calling him in my head) would be sleeping. As I reached the back of the bus, I found a bathroom with a shower, two sinks, and a huge vanity mirror.
I looked around the room and found my guitar was there. I was stoked about that. Now I could start writing songs for my second album.
I took out my guitar and starting playing a few of my earlier songs that didn't make the album because the label didn't like the harder edge to it.
Granted I know I'm not some punk kid, but my roots were in alternative music. I am not Nick Carter who was a pop star and decided that he wanted to do something harder.
I didn't know how long I was playing but I did know that I picked up an audience sometime during my own personal jam session.
"What's up?" I said not looking up from my guitar.
"I didn't know you could play guitar," he said.
I let out a bitter laugh. "That's how they found me. I was in a college band. I was the lead vocalist and guitarist. When they signed me, without my band, they promised me that if my first album did well they'd let me do the album I want." I thought for a second and then added a little too bitterly, "I am not sure what well means," I said as I put my guitar away.
"I am sorry DJ," he said.
"Not you're fault. The label's the one pretty much lying and I was the one who sold my soul to the devil," I said as I stood and walked past him.
"You don't sound too happy about the success you're having," he pointed out.
"Yea, that's true. I am happy actually. In fact I am stoked, but what did it cost me? My old band won't talk to me because they think I sold out and to be honest, I feel like did too."
"So why not do something about it. >From what I hear your album just hit the double platinum mark. That's pretty good for a debut and that makes for a good bargaining tool. Or better yet, teach the band one of your old songs and then incorporated into the tour, and then release it as a single," he said.
I thought for a second. "That sounds like a good idea," I said as I smiled at him.
"Good," he said, pleased with himself. "Does that mean we can go back to being friends..." his voice got lower even though we were the only ones on the bus. "...you know, like before we had the kiss?"
I thought about it as I looked into his brown eyes. He didn't deserve to be friends with me but we're on tour with each other for 2 months--2 months of being stuck on a bus with him. "Sure I guess, but don't start anything you can't finish," I teased.
"Deal." He smiled at me.
"How long have you been done?" Justin asked me as he came from the back of the bus.
"Not very long," I said as I looked up and noticed he was in his boxers. It took everything in me to not push him down and give his chest a tongue bath.
"I smell coffee," he said as he walked past me. Before I could catch myself I was checking out his ass. This is going to be harder than I thought.
The next morning I was sitting on the couch. I heard Justin stumble out of his bunk and watched him as he sat on the other side of the couch. He rubbed his eyes and smiled at me.
"Morning." I said smiling at him.
"You too." He said, and then went to say something else when he stopped and looked at me for a few seconds. "What?" I asked as I looked down at myself.
"Nothing--just thinking," he said and then turned toward the window and looked out.
"About?" I pried.
He turned and smiled at me. "A friend of mine is coming to the concert tonight and he's expressed interest in you."
"Are you setting me up with someone?" I asked as I was getting a little ticked. "First you come on to me, and then you tell me you're not interested, and on top of that, you don't trust me enough to leave you alone?" I said as I stood.
"NO! It's not like that at all--chill out DJ. I figured that you can never have too many friends," he said.
I eyed him carefully and then sighed, "I am sorry. I don't know why I'm so nervous around you," I pointed out.
"Don't tell me you're still star struck?" he asked as he was laughing. "You're a celebrity too," he pointed out.
"I know it's not that. I just don't know how to act around you," I confessed.
"Come here," he said opening his arms and patted his stomach. I crawled over him and positioned my back again his chest. I was wearing my tank top and board shorts from last night. I had to take a deep breath because now Justin Timberlake was holding me. I was brought back to reality by his words. "You treat me like family. Because I think we have the potential to become family. Plus I am going to be there to watch out for you and make sure you don't get hurt or screwed by anyone. Ok?"
I was touched, I am not sure where this came from, but it made me feel good. "Ok," I said.
"Good," he said and then kissed the top of my head. "Now I have to go put some clothes on," he said as he tried to push me off of him. "You'll have to move," he said as he laughed.
I was so nervous when we pulled into the hotel parking lot, but it had nothing to do with the screaming fans. Justin told me that his friend would be meeting us at the hotel later that day. He wouldn't tell me much about him except that he was a cool guy.
"Ok guys, well it looks like the label is cutting corners again they put you in a two bedroom suite. It's a nice suite though," our head of security, Jon, said.
"That's cool," Justin said and then took our keys from him. "We gotta path?" he asked as he looked out the window.
"Yea, whenever you guys are ready," he said.
I had long since changed into a hoodie and a pair of jeans. I smiled at them and put my sunglasses, pulled my hood over my head and grabbed my backpack. "Let's go," I said as I smiled.
As I stepped off the bus and tried to get to the lobby of the hotel as quickly as possible. Once I inside, I made a bee-line straight to the elevator while Justin stayed and talk to fans.
I was sitting in the living room of the suite when he finally came in.
"Hey kid," he said as he walked toward me.
I smiled up at him and he ran his finger through my hair. "Yea, I need to cut it. It's getting too long," I said as I pushed a bit of it out of my face.
"No it looks good long like this. Well you could probably take a little off the sides but leave your bangs long. I like your hair," he said.
I watched him as he sat in the chair to my right. "Thanks."
"I wish when I grew my hair out like that it'd stay straight." He pouted a little.
"Naw, don't worry about it. You look better with shorter hair," I said.
His cell rang and he smiled at me. He had a conversation with the little machine. The only part I heard was: "Yea sure come up. (Pause) Yea, I'll see you in few." Then he said as he flipped his phone shut, "Here he comes," he teased me.
A few minutes later there was a knock at the door. Justin looked at me, I shrugged. "You set this up. You get it," I smirked.
"Prick," he mumbled as he walked to the door. I heard some whispering and laughing.
"My ears are burning," I said as I sat on the couch waiting.
"Then you should probably clean them better," Justin yelled back and I heard them both laugh.
I stood as I heard them come closer. I turned and gasped when I saw his friend. I thought he was talking about a friend from back where he lived not someone from the industry.
"Dakota Jackson, I want you to meet Jeff Timmons." He smiled at my reaction.
"Hi--nice to meet you," I said as I tried not to stumble over my words.
"Yea you too," Jeff said smiling.
I stood there for a second. Too shocked to speak and then when I finally found my voice. "I've gotta admit that I am a little surprised that you're interested me," I said and then realized what a dumb-ass remark that was. "I mean, I used to watch you and 98* on MTV and always thought you were the cute one," I said. Damn, I just gave out way too much information.
Jeff turned to Justin. "You're right--he does babble when he's nervous."
After hanging out with us for about half an hour, Justin made an excuse about talking to the tour manager about something and left. We talked for about 2 hours--he told me about himself and I told him the edited version of my family life.
"You have the most beautiful eyes," he said while looking at them.
I blushed and went to say thank you but before I knew it he was kissing me. I'm pretty sure it was just me, but it felt like fireworks were going off. He had to be the best kisser ever. He ran his fingers through my hair and I ran my fingers up his strong back.
He gently pushed me back and crawled on top of me while never breaking the kiss. I started to pull of his shirt, when he stopped me.
"Not now. Let's just enjoy this," he said as he smiled that beautiful smile and we were at it again.
I don't know how long we had been at it but I heard the door open and Justin let out a surprised yelp.
"Whoa," Justin said as he walked into the living room.
Jeff broke off the kiss but didn't move from on top of me. "Hey Justin," he said.
"Hey JT," I said as I smiled at Jeff.
"It looks like you two hit it off pretty well," he said as he sat on the coffee table. "I hate to be a party-pooper but Dakota has to go do sounds check and practice," Justin said.
"Damn," I whined.
"It's cool babe. I'm going to be at the show tonight and you guys aren't heading out until tomorrow right?" I nodded. "Well then you got me all night," he said and then kissed me again before he let me up.
"So what do you think of him?" Justin asked me as we walked out on stage.
I looked up him. "I think he's a great guy," I said in a dreamy tone.
"Good," he said as he put his arms around me and then walked out on the stage. "So have you given any thought about performing one of your songs?" he asked as he walked back to where the band plays.
"Yea, when you found me this morning, I was trying to remember how to play it," I said.
"Well let's see," he said as he picked up an electric guitar and handed it to me. "Oh, and I hope you don't mind, I heard this band was really good, so I called them in to back you up," he said pointing behind me.
I turned to see my old college band. "Oh my God," I said as I ran to hug `em. "What are you guys doing here?"
"Well, we gotta phone call here from this guy," he said as he pointed to Justin, "saying that it would mean a lot to you if we came and played with you for tonight's show," my best friend Jason and our second guitarist said.
"Plus," our bassist Erik piped up, "All this pop shit is making you soft."
I smiled at them. "You guys know that I wanted this to be us up here right?" I said with my eyes near tearing.
"Yea, but it was a once and a lifetime deal. Don't worry we get it," Nate, our drummer said.
"Well, now that it's settled..." Justin said as he came between us. "...let's see what you guys have."
For the next two hours we had a jam session. Playing stuff from our demo and just having fun. We decided that we were going to play three songs; one was my favorite, "Swing, Swing." It was always a party favorite when we did shows. We also decided that we'd do it at the end of both mine and Justin's show.
I had finished my part of the show earlier, and while I was out there I spotted Jeff. That only made it better that he'd see me playing.
I was brought to reality as Justin was finishing his last of his last song. I looked over at the guys. They all looked nervous. "You guys ready?" I smiled at them.
Yea," Jason said, and then added, "How many people are out there?" he asked.
I thought for a second. "We're in San Diego, the show is sold out. About 30,000 people, why nervous?"
"Yes!" they all said at they same time.
I saw Justin run back stage and I heard the drums on stage. "Well no time for that. We gotta play." I said as I pushed them out on stage.
The house lights were on all over arena. We set it up that the house lights would go off after 3 minutes. When the house lights when off, a spot light came on me.
"Hey everyone " I yelled and the crowd went nuts. "I'm not sure if you guys know this or not, but before I was signed to Jive, I was in a band in college. The guys and I called ourselves The Dropouts. Well I got a little lonely out here and they decided to come for a visit. So here we go."
The lights came up and then they flashed the color lights. The crowd screamed, hollered, and yelled. I started to play the first chords of the song and the crowd got louder. I jumped, played, and sang up and down that stage. We played our hearts out and the crowd loved it. After our last song they we're screaming for more.
I walked back stage tired and sweating, the guys were jumping all over the place.
"Is it always like that?" Jason said excitedly.
"Yup." I said before I gulped down a bottle of water.
"You guys were AWESOME" Justin said as he ran up and high fived everyone.
"Yea it was fun. It sucks that we could only do it tonight," I said with a frown on my face.
"Dude, I think I speak for all of us when I say, you just made our dream come true," Nate said and they all agreed.
"I don't think you guys should get too comfortable out there in Minneapolis, because from what I saw out there, you guys are going to be signed real quickly," Justin said to me.
"That would be awesome," Erik said as he jumped up and down.
I was sitting on the couch when I saw Jeff walk in. He came over and sat next to me. "That was amazing babe. Did you come up with that in the time before the show?" he asked.
I nodded. "It was easy, but my show and that mini show took a lot of energy," I said as I leaned my head on his shoulder.
"Oh my God," Jason said. "Please don't tell me you're dating a guy from 98*," he said as he sat down on the coffee table in front of us.
I looked up at Jeff. "I don't know, am I?"
"Of course you are," he said. He then kissed me on my forehead.
"You hit it big Kota," Jason said as he patted my knee.
"I guess. And to thank you guys for doing this for me, your hotel, and airfare is on me."
"I don't know Kota..." Erik started.
"Sure thanks," Nate said and then mumbled something to Erik.
"Ok, guys, back to the hotel," Ian said to all of us.
"That was amazing babe," Jeff said and then lightly kissed my neck.
"I was happy to help the guys out like that," I said as I snuggled in his arms. "So when I am going to see you again?" I asked as I turned in his arms.
"Let's just think about tonight," he said between kisses.
And what a night it was, although we didn't have sex. I learned more and more about him. The more we talked the more I fell for him. He asked about my college days and whatever else I would tell him. He figured out that I was holding back a lot of information, but he didn't push. I also found out that he had a daughter and was almost 10 years older than me.
"We should probably get to sleep. It's almost 4 in the morning," he said as he brushed a stray hair out of my face. "And we have to be up in 4 hours."
"I can sleep on the bus. We're in Las Vegas tomorrow night. So we have a little bit of a ride," I said as I ran my hands up his chest. I looked in his eyes and noticed them twinkling. "You're so beautiful." I said to him.

Oh FYI I have NOTHING against Nick Carter, so please no flaming torches about my comment in the story... Kay? All good. Oh and another thing. While I am pretty comfortable with my story writing skills, I am not with my song writing skills. So all the songs used by the "Dropouts" are going to be All American Reject songs, so yea, I figured I'd put that out there. All comments go to Craigger02@comcast.net.
