I want to thank Adam for taking the time to look over my chapters for me. I really appreciate it. I also want to thank all those people who take those 15 seconds to E-mail. They are the reason you are reading right now.
E-mail. We authors love it. It lets us know that other people out there like out stories. So please send E-mail. kholdnavyguy@hotmail.com
Just one more thing and you can start reading the story...I promise. As everybody has said before, just because we are writing this, we are not saying that ANYBODY in this story is gay/bi in real life. IT'S FICTION PEOPLE!!! If you are 18, or for other reasons shouldn't be here...leave...or don't get caught! Now, as if that deterred anybody...
Steven and Brian 3
Howie lunged at me in the floor, but I rolled over. As soon as he hit the floor I rolled on top of him, pinning him to the ground. Being quite a bit larger than him, he was easily pinned.
"Howie, I don't know what the hell your problem is, but get over it. You should have your mind on Brian. He is the one you are here for. Now get a grip on reality." Howie just looked at me with hate and spit in my face. I took my hand, wiped my face clean, and then wiped them on my pants. "Now I know why Brian acted the way he did. And you call yourselves friends. I pity him." I got up off of Howie who was quickly drug away by a very angry AJ.
"I am so sorry about that. We have gotten used to Howie. I guess we should have watched him. How is Brian? Where is he? How do you know him? What has he said about us and the situation?"
"Calm down Kevin. Before I tell you anything, you need to know some things." I spoke as AJ rejoined us by Howie who wouldn't even look the least bit sorry for his actions. What an asshole. "Brian is very upset right now. Whatever you did to him really hurt him. Now, before I tell you anymore or take you anywhere, I need to you promise me that you guys can all be there for him." The whole time I spoke I looked directly at Howie while he shot daggers at me with his eyes. They all slowly nodded yes, including Howie. I doubted his sincerity. "OK. Brian has lost his eyesight. The doctor believes that this will only be temporary. Physically, he will heal. Mentally, I am less sure. It all depends on you guys. You mean a lot to him. Right now, he doesn't understand why anybody would care for him, and I personally wouldn't leave him alone too long. He is severely depressed." They all looked at me with a mix of shock and shame, as they stood motionless. "I'll take you to him."
As we walked over to the elevators, I prayed that this meeting would go well. If it didn't, I don't know how Brian would react. It seemed too much was riding on this meeting. We all stepped into the elevator, and I pushed the button to the tenth floor. The whole time Howie was glaring at me. I finally snapped.
"Howie, what the fuck is your problem? Huh? What have I done to you? What have I done to deserve this sort of treatment from you? Can you answer me that? Nobody else felt the sudden need to tackle me and spit in my face! Ever since I met you all I have done was be a good guy, and all you have done is treat me like shit! So what is it Howie? What seems to be the problem?" All the guys looked at me with huge eyes and stepped back, including Howie. The opening of the elevator doors unfortunately saved Howie. I took a deep breath, turned on my heals, and exited the elevator. As we stood outside the room, I turned again, "Wait here. I will tell him you are here." I didn't hear any objections so I stepped into the room.
"Brian, the guys are here." I could see from the door that he was tense about this, so I closed the door all the way and walked into the room. "Brian? C'mon. Calm down. I am sure everything will be fine."
"I don't know. What if they don't really want to be here? What if I say the wrong thing and ruin everything?"
"Don't you worry Brian. Now I am going to let them in and go get something to eat. I guess I will come back in about an hour."
"No, please stay. Please. I know I have asked so much of you, but please stay. I feel a strange comfort when I am around you. Like everything will be all right. I don't know why. Will you stay? Please?"
"Very well. Let me bring them in here." To say he looked relieved would be an understatement. I walked over to the door and allowed the guys in. They all stood at the foot of Brian's hospital bed. The air was full of tension. There was so much to be said, but nobody would say it. This little get together was doing nothing but make matters worse, so I decided to take part in the non-existent conversation. "You know, the problem is not going to relieve itself just because you are standing here. Whatever it is that is holding you guys back from talking to each other, get over it." Everybody just looked at their feet dumbly. "OK Kevin. You get to start. I can't stand to see family acting like they don't even know each other. Something is on your mind. Now say it."
"Steven, could you leave us for..." Kevin didn't even finish before Brian answered for me.
"No, I asked him to stay. I want him here."
"Brian, perhaps it would be best if..."
"No, you said you would stay...please stay."
I sighed and nodded. "OK Brian, I will stay. But only if I hear some talking." There was another moment of indecision in the room. I had had it. This was so stupid. I got out of my chair, scooted it over to Brian's bed, and shoved Kevin into it, placing his hand on Brian's. "Now start talking damnit!" Pause.
"Brian, I am really sorry about the way we acted back at the airport. When you needed us the most, we weren't there for you."
"I'm sorry Brian. I was just a little stunned. I never knew." Nick spoke.
"Me too Bri. I don't think any less of you. Over the past few years we have been like brothers. Your being gay doesn't change that for me."
"Thanks AJ."
"Why are you guys OK with this? I'm not. It's wrong. Your wrong. You a disgusting faggot. That's all you are."
I had listened to enough of Howie's input. I grabbed him by the collar and lifted him, carrying him out the door and into the hall while the other guys looked on with shocked faces. He struggled and kicked, but my size was enough to stop and competition between us. Once in the hall, I slammed him up against the wall. "Alright. Listen up you little shit. I have had it with you. What is your problem? Screw that, I don't care what your problem is. Whatever it is, get over it. I don't want to heat another harmful word out of your mouth. If you hurt me, Brian, or any of the other guys, I PROMISE, you will regret it. Do we have an understanding?" He nodded yes, and I dropped him to the ground and walked back into the room. Brian was laying in bed with tears running down his cheeks.
"Steven?"
"Yea Brian, I'm here."
"Thank you."
"Yes, we should all thank you"
"Why is that AJ?"
"Howie is a real ass. I just couldn't bring myself to do that."
"And thank you for sticking up for my cousin when he really needed it."
"I'm sure you have better things to do than helping some blind gay guy with personal problems."
"Brian, you should know me better than that."
"Your right. I'm sorry. I just feel..."
"Lost. You feel lost."
"Yea. I guess that would be the best word to describe it. I just...I just don't see how anybody could love me. I am such a mess. What am I going to do? I can't see. That means I can't tour. My career is ruined. In turn I screwed up everybody else's. It seems like I have lost everything. I don't know what to do."
"Tell you what Brian. I have some influence around here. How about I get you out of here and we can all go to my house for some rest. I think we all need it. And I'm sure your management needs to hear what is going on."
"We really shouldn't. You have a life. I don't want..."
"It's no problem Kevin. You guys want anything while I'm gone, just call the nurse."
"Thanks Steven, you are such a life saver."
"Don't mention it Bri." I walked out of the room and took the elevator to the 15th floor.
"Good morning Dr. Wright."
"Good morning Sarah. How are you doing today?"
"I'm doing all right. Why are you here. You should be at home resting or golfing or something."
"Well, I brought a friend into the ER this morning."
"I'm amazed you aren't in scrubs right now."
"Well, apparently, only the weekend staff is on, and nobody recognizes me without my white coat or scrubs."
"Lucky you."
"Yea. It was nice not having to jump in."
"So what are you doing up here?"
"I need a favor, but I don't want the whole hospital to know that I am here. I need you to get my friend released to my care."
"OK. I'll have him out in five minutes."
"Thanks Sarah. See you Monday."
"OK. See you then. Enjoy your weekend."
"You too. I want you gone by three. Doctor's orders."
"Yes Sir!"
We both laughed as I stepped onto the elevator, and went back to Brian's floor. By the time I got there, five different nurses were helping a dressed Brian out of bed and into a wheelchair. Meanwhile, another was helping Kevin get papers signed.
"Holy cow man! Who are you around here anyway? You leave and then three minutes later nurses are everywhere yelling at each other to hurry!"
"Well, there are a few things you don't know about me, but I will tell you later. I want to get out of here. SALLY!!!"
"Yes Sir?" She popped up from behind a desk.
"Have my car pull around the back will you?"
"Yes Sir."
Kevin looked at me astonished. Now I had him really wondering. Upon looking at the other guys, I found them all in the same state. I just laughed. "OK guys, lets go." With that they all followed me to the elevator with AJ pushing Brian. Kevin went to push the button for the lobby, but I stopped him.
"What?"
"You don't know where were going and you can't get there anyway."
"Oh. Now you really have some explaining to do."
"Later." I pulled the card out of my wallet, swiped it through the reader, and pushed the button with a red "X" on it. When the doors opened, we were in a small underground lot, and there was my car parked. Now everybody's eyes, minus Brian, bugged out of their head.
"What's up guys? Why do quiet?"
"I think our friend here is bigger than we thought Bri."
"Huh? Why?" AJ just began pushing Brian's wheelchair.
"Damn, that thing is huge! Who are you man?"
I just laughed at AJ. Greg got out of the car and opened the door.
"Alright guys. In. I'll get Brian."
"Thanks Steven."
"Quit thanking me Brian. I've done nothing any other person should have done." I picked him up and placed him the seat next to me.
"The difference it that most people wouldn't have."
Greg shut the door, and shortly we were on out way home.
