No one ever said high school would be so different. Sure it was a fresh start. A new place, new kids, but it was more than that for me. It was a new state, a new city, a new life! Let me explain a little more. My name is Christian Zachia Blake, I am one of a set of fraternal twins. My brother's name is Seth Jeremy Blake. He is actually the older but you wouldn't guess that looking at us. No one doubts though that we are our parents kids, they do question us being twins though. What with me being 6'1, dirty blonde hair, slim built, with hazel eyes. Then you got Seth who is 5'10 with jet black hair, and these amazing dark blue eyes. Anyway I am getting carried away. I am here to tell you a story, actually more read you one, and it is my brother's story.
He left me this diary many years ago. I didn't think about it till today when I found my old High school yearbook. I never opened it till now either but I think it is time I do, and I think it's time you all know about the person who opened my eyes to the world. I might jump in occasionally but don't worry this is all Seth's story.
August 21st 2009;
School started today. Man it was crazy. We just moved down here to Jacksonville, Florida, moved all the way from Virginia actually. I'm not used to being around so many people. My junior High School had just over 600 students; this school had three times that easy. It was all just a little overwhelming and I was thankful I had Christian there. He fit in anywhere we went. He just had that smile and that attitude. No one ever bothered him and he could charm anyone from student, to teacher with just a look. I will always envy him this.
Anyhow the day did not go as well as I hoped. Sometimes being the smart twin doesn't always help when it comes to a big school. In Virginia they never separated the smart kids, or at least not at the school I went to. Here they have special classes and programs just for us. Not saying anything bad about Virginia here. Just that my school wasn't big enough to worry about it. Now I found myself in classes completely cut off from Christian, we didn't even get the same lunch together. The only thing we had was homeroom because our last names were the same. Our homeroom teacher is a story unto herself. Her name is Mrs. White. I can tell me and her are going to get along great. She is very funny and sweet even if some of the things she says are a little...out there. She teaches Psychology though and I don't think I can take that till my Junior Year. We have homeroom everyday though for at least thirty minutes which is nice. Sometimes longer for things like FCAT, and other Aptitude tests this state will make us take.
After Homeroom is where things got interesting. I had to leave Christian to go to my first class. It felt weird not being around him. I never do well on my own. I normally get picked on, or at least I did at my old school. I had a feeling it wouldn't take long for that to start here. Hell, they were already separating out the smart kids so it was going to be pretty easy to spot the `nerds' now.
'Okay I have to cut in here. See I never got where Seth got this nerd thing from. He is far from it. I guess our dad started that one. He was always into sports and athletics and used to call Seth his little book worm, or his little nerd. He loved Seth and was only joking but apparently the kid took it to heart. I guess he didn't really see just how wrong dad was until...what was his name? I can't remember now, oh wait here it is, coming up in this entry, wow I didn't know Seth had known him from the first day of school. Must have been fate huh?'
So I walked into my first class. Chemistry. Science had to be favorite subject. I always freaked my brother out because I told him I was going to grow up and be a Forensic Scientist or a Medical Examiner. At first he didn't know what I was talking but when I said the doctor's name from CSI he about got ill. Chris never was good with blood and guts. I don't know the job sounds interesting to me. Chemistry was by far my favorite subject so I knew I was going to love this class.
I took my seat in the middle. It was Christian who told me to do this. Apparently if you were up front you were a geek and people would pick on you. If you sat in the back you were the bad kid and the teacher would pick on you, I bet Christian always sits in the back, so the middle was always the safest place to sit. The teacher looked kind of mean and that worried me. He said his name was Mr. Egan. I think the first thing I noticed about Mr. Egan was the hearing aid. Of course so did some of the other students who whispered and pointed at it. You could quickly tell which ones were going to cause problems. The first thing he had us do was stand up and go around the room giving our name, where we were from, and what we wanted to do with our lives. He went first. His name was Mr. Egan, he was from Florida, and planned on being a teacher till he retired. Then we went around the class. When it came to me I just stood up slowly and nervously pushed back my black hair. "Er...My name is, Seth Jeremy Blake, I am from Virginia, and I want to be an M.E." That was the safest way to put it I had thought, I mean how many of these kids know what an M.E. is.
"Very interesting Mr. Blake." Mr. Egan had said.
I was glad he didn't push it any. I really didn't want to be thought of as the freak who wanted to cut open dead bodies. I barely paid attention to the kids around the room. So I don't know why but this one caught my ear. He was right behind me so maybe that was why I was listening at the time and not zoned out somewhere. "My name is Corbin Austin Daniels, I am from California, and it would be hella cool to be an M.E., or a professional skater." Some of the kids laughed at the way the excited guy said this. I perked up confused and turned as he sat back down with my brow furrowed. I was thinking he had to be mocking me but when I looked back I was lost in the green eyes. He was a little taller than I was probably in this A&F polo and jeans. He had bright green eyes and thick curly brown hair.
'Okay if you didn't know already maybe I should explain that my brother was gay. Of course I don't know when he actually discovered but from having read ahead some already I find it good to guess that before looking at Corbin he was at least already guessing at his sexuality.'
I was just stunned by him that I almost forgot to turn around and it wasn't until the door slammed open and I about fell out of my seat that I turned around. The sight walking through the door though was almost as stunning as Corbin. He had to have been older though, probably a senior. He had dark hair like mine but it was done in these short spikes and his eyes were almost as black as his hair. He had this wicked smile that he flashed around the room and I swear when he looked at me I felt my heart skip a beat. "I see you are back again Jeremiah, Just take a seat please and behave yourself."
"Sir yes sir!" He mocked giving a mock salute to a rather irate looking Mr. Egan. Apparently this kid coming here though wasn't unusual since he took a seat in the chair to my left and up one. I could glance out of the corner of my eye at his back the whole period, and I swear I could feel Corbin looking at me. I didn't dare turn around though and so I was completely unable to focus on what Mr. Egan was saying. Yeah High school was going to be tough...
'His entry goes on and on about some rather boring stuff. Second period English, third is History, then lunch, fourth was his math, fifth is Computer tech, and his last is...P.E. Hm...oh wait here we go, after school apparently, waiting for me. I don't remember seeing him talking to anyone.'
...So after the bell rang I changed out quickly and darted out ready to be home. The day had been pretty boring and I already had homework to do. I hadn't seen either Corbin or the Junior Shane. Not until I got up front anyway. They were both there near the parking lot. Corbin was waiting for his bus. He was a few inches taller than most of the freshman, and Shane would probably stand out anywhere being as loud as he was. I took a quick glance of both with their friends and sat on a bench waiting on Christian. I remember being rather zoned out thinking about school that day when a shadow blocked the sun that had blazing down on me. I looked up into those glittering green eyes and about found myself lost again.
"Seth right?" The first words he ever spoke to me. I know I will never forget them or his accent. "Yeah I was wondering if-"
"Hey you're that smart one from Chemistry, the one who kept kissing Mr. Egan's ass aren't ya?" A boot had hit the bench with these words and when I looked up it was Shane, that junior from earlier. Apparently he just could not pass chemistry but the school was going to keep making him take it and keep him from graduating until he did. "How much would it cost for you to do my homework?" I didn't know how to respond. I didn't want to do someone else's homework on top of my own. I suddenly wished for Christian to be here. "I know you can talk kid. Now what's it goin' to cost? Keep starin' at me like that and it'll be a fist." I looked down at my shoes in nervousness. I really didn't know how to respond. "Whatever. I'll find someone else." He was gone with that and when I turned to see where Corbin was apparently he had fled from the confrontation. Christian wasn't far behind though...
'Hmmm...I never even knew that part what a loser. I probably would have never liked the guy if Seth had mentioned this part. Anyway that was how he met the guy he fell for. I'm not going to say which. You just have to stick with it. I need to take some time and read through this, edit out the unimportant stuff. Figure out the next time something interesting happens. Anyway I'm going to go read now. Who knew it would be so interesting. The man behind the brains.'
So I haven't writting on here in a while. I apologize to those who may ahve liked my other story but I just can't get back into writing it. I promise I tried. Anyhow. I know this is a bit different from the way a normal story goes but let me know what you think and if you are interested in finding out exactly who it is that Seth fell head over heels for.
