Sunrise on the Edge of the High Desert by John of Colorado clrdjhn@yahoo.com Chapter 5

If you are here illegally, then it is time for you to leave. This story contains man/man sex. If this bothers you, then it is time for you to leave also. This story is fiction but some of it is based on real situations. The names and places have been changed.

Jack and Adam slept in a little later than they had planned. They hit the shower and Jack started to touch Adam's behind. "Keep you hands to yourself. You had enough last night to last you a life time and besides, I am so sore that I won't be able to use the bathroom for a month." teased Adam.

"Then, I think you will just have to get even with me. You only had your way with me once last night and now you need to make up for lost time." lamented Jack.

There was a pounding on the bedroom door. "Hey you guys up yet?. Breakfast is ready. So get you butts out of bed and get to the kitchen or we will throw it out to the pigs." shouted Sam.

"We are on our way. See you in a couple." shouted Jack in return.

"I thought I told you guys that you could make all the noise you wanted and It wouldn't disturb us. I was wrong. I had to get up and shut the intercom off. Look how Adam is walking. How many times did you get banged. A whole bunch, I bet." teased Grandpa.

"You don't have an intercom and Adam and I went straight to bed and to asleep." replied Jack.

"I am still not going to buy that bridge so you might as well quite trying to sell it. I know if I had been in bed with that stud, I would still be using him! Man he is a prize!" Grandpa commented.

"Don't listen to Jack. He was getting ready for another round when Sam banged on the door. He didn't sleep all night. That big monster of his never did die and I got pounded all night. No, actually, we did get a couple of hours of sleep but I am not complaining one bit. I enjoyed every minute and kept encouraging him. I am well satisfied. See my big grin." Adam boasted giving a big phony grin.

"Hey, Jack if ever you can't satisfy that wild man, Just give a holler and Grandpa and I will come in and help you out." Sam expounded.

"Just remember, I am more man than all three of put together can handle" giggled Adam.

"I think I know three people who had better stop talking and eat some blueberry pancakes before they get cold." Sam said with authority. "We have a lot of work to do. There will be a crew of men here with an u-haul truck to load everything this afternoon. We still have to get the rest of it packed. After all the work is done, I bet I know a couple who will sleep tonight!"

"After breakfast, let's spend a couple of hours having a family meeting. There is so much for us to decide upon. Right now, I am going to over eat. Sam is the worse nurse, I have ever seen. All he wants to do is follow the doctor's orders. I know Sam, one little pancake is enough for me but I don't care I want at least 3 large ones. Sam may be the most disagreeable nurse, but he is the world's best in bed and one of the top notch cooks. Love you Sam. I really don't know how you put up with me!" remarked Grandpa.

"Here you go, Grandpa, Your breakfast!" Sam set a plate with a silver dollar pancake on it in front of Grandpa. He was trying to stifle a burst of laughter but couldn't. He had another plate behind his back with 4 pancakes on it and sat if front of Grandpa, taking away the first one. "Guys, don't get me wrong, I love this guy but I just have to give him a bad time. We never get mad at the other even though we may sound like we are ready to choke the other. We just get even!"

After a delicious breakfast, Grandpa told us to bring our coffee and we would go into the den. We could clean up later. However, Beth and Bill walked in and shooed us out of the kitchen. "We will do the cleanup!" said Bill.

Grandpa took out a paper with a list of things to be discussed.

  1. Final wishes

  2. What to do with the house

  3. His will

  4. How are we going to Oregon

  5. Where would they stay once the got to Oregon

  6. Places to go and things to see

  7. etc. etc. etc.

"I am not going to take these in order. I just wrote them down as I thought of them. I would like to skip down to #4. I am not going to say what I want at this time. I would like to hear what you guys think and then we can make a decision.

Sam was the first to speak up. "I would like to rule out flying. For one thing, that little puddle jumper that goes between hear and Oregon is way to small. One of the larger planes would be nice but isn't as convenient. We would have to go to one of the large airports and fly into Portland. I don't know how far that is from your ranch."

"I agree with you Sam, I think flying should be ruled out. I must confess, I have only been in part of California and very little of Oregon. Of course, I went to Hawaii for a vacation. I would like to hit Yellowstone Park. Then we would drop down into Southeastern Utah, which has a lot to offer. From there we could go back to Idaho visit Craters of the Moon and then on to northeastern Oregon. We are not on a schedule and I would like to take our time going home."

"Way to go Adam! You should be working for a travel bureau! " beamed Grandpa. Sam and Jack were both nodding in agreement.

" I can drive the U-haul truck. Sam can drive the van. We can get a large motorhome and Adam can drive it. Another idea is tow the van behind the motor home and use it to tour the parks." suggested Jack. "We need to get on line and pull up Map Quest and plan our route, set a time schedule. When all of that is done, then I will call my travel agent at AAA and have her make all the reservations."

"Sounds like a good plan. I am having a good time already." Smiled Grandpa.

"Number 5 is an easy one. Jack and I own a very large ranch. It is about 3 miles from a little town, which we own most of it. We have a very large ultra modern ranch house. I have been living in it by myself for the last year.. Jack can move in with me, If he would like. His house is a three bedroom house about a half block from the main house. You two can move into it. So there it is all settled." announced Adam.

"If you twist my arm enough, I might consider moving in with you, separate bedrooms of course. Hey only kidding. Just try to put me in another room and you will have a big fight on your hands." Laughed Jack giving Adam a big squeeze.

"That is not what I had in mind when I put in on the list."

"Grandpa, this matter is not open for debate. I will take a big hug from both of you and a thank you to seal the matter." Said Adam.

"I will take a hug from each of you also!" interjected Jack.

"#6 can wait until we get to Oregon and have you two settled into your new home!" mentioned Jack. "Man, this has been hard work. I think we need to take a break. I have been smelling something nice coming from the kitchen area. I bet Beth has been making my favorite cinnamon rolls. Shall we go see?" inquired Grandpa.

"I bet she did. That means I get two. One for me and yours Grandpa. You know what the doctor said about carbs and sweets." badgered Sam.

"You know what I am going to tell the doctor. You can, also, stick the cinnamon rolls where the sun doesn't shine" responded Grandpa.

"I don't think I would like a cinnamon roll stuck up there. I would much rather that you would stick something bigger and harder." rebuffed Sam.

"Jack, you hold Sam and I will help Grandpa. I am sure that the three of us can teach him a thing or two. We should be able to shove at lease three cinnamon roll in his glory hole." Adam kidded. By now, all of us were laughing so hard that we had tears in our eyes.

Beth opened the door and was carrying a large tray of cinnamon rolls and coffee. "Someone must have really told a funny joke. Does anyone want to fill me in. I need a good laugh now and then."

Before anyone could speak, Sam jumped and said "No, I don't think they do and they better not either or I will break their necks."

"I can guess that you were being picked upon. They must have got you good from the brilliant shade of red that you have turned." laughed Beth. Sam turned a even darker red.

"Thanks, Beth, those look and smell delicious." commented Jack. "I don't think that Sam wants any cinnamon rolls. That means the rest of us get to share his." Jack said and started to laugh again.

"You guys are having too much fun. I had better leave before I get embarrassed and turn redder than Sam. He is a lot tougher that I am and can take more. Just holler if you need anything else." With that she was gone.

"We enjoyed our break and then we decided to get back to business.

"You don't have much to say about the first item on the list. Sam and I have already filled out a living will. I have signed it and had it witnessed and notarized to make it completely legal. Jack you and Sam have been given medical power of attorneys. Each of you will have a copy." Grandpa handed each of us a copy. "When my time comes, I don't want to go to any old hospital. Under no circumstances am I to be put on life support. No emergency measures to bring me back to life. If I can't make it on my own, then I want to go peacefully. Sam, being a nurse will have pain killers with him at all times and will give me something to make me comfortable. Are you with me so far?"

"Grandpa, Adam and I feel the same way and have taken the same steps that you have. We need to give Sam a medical power of attorney. We have it set up now for the other to have complete charge. We need a third party so if something happens to both of us, we will be taken care of according to our wishes." Jack informed Grandpa.

"We have a very good doctor friend and an attorney who own the ranch next to us. They do all our medical and legal work for us. I am sure they will take you on also, Grandpa." said Adam.

"That is supper, I need a doctor to issue me orders for Grandpa. Having one so close would be a blessing." remarked Sam. "I just hope he is a mean old cuss and will make Grandpa toe the line."

"Just the opposite. He is very young and the most loveable man in the world. He will help you get through the hard times." said Jack.

"This is going better than I though. I was sure that I would have some opposition from you Jack."

"Grandpa, regardless of what I think, I want you to be happy. I want the best for you and you know what you want. That is why we are having this discussion now, instead of later. One can't know what a person's last wishes are unless they tell us. Love you, Grandpa. Now please go on!" Jack acknowledged tenderly.

"You don't know how that uplifts me. I feel so much better now. When my time is near, I want all three of you with me. Jack and Sam can each hold my hands. Adam, I know you are a minister. Would you take care of my soul and spiritual needs for me?"

"I would me most happy to do that for you. Only thing, I won't do is preach you into heaven or hell. That is not my job and I won't make a judgement." said Adam with tears in his eyes.

"Jack, you have to make a decision and I would like for you to make it on your own. What are we going to do with the house?" asked Grandpa.

"Grandpa, I have previously decided about the house. We will be taking every thing from it we care about.. All that will be left is four walls. All the love and memories will go with us and I mean to keep the alive. I would like to give the house to Beth and Bill. They have been here so long and I am sure that They have memories that will remain here." Jack choked and had tears in his eyes.

Grandpa was crying now. Sam and I moved in and started hugging both him and Jack. Finally, he was able to continue. "Jack, that is exactly what I wanted but I didn't know how you would react. I know this has been your home for all your life. It will be hard for us to walk away. We have a new life ahead of us and there will be no looking back except to reminisce and remember all the good times. Are you sure this is what you want.?" All Jack could do was nod his head yes. "Adam, would you ask Beth and Bill to come in, please. I don't think Jack or I can tell them. Would you do it for us?"

"Most certainly! Sam you may have to help me!" and he left to get them.

Beth and Bill came into the room and immediately they knew something unpleasant had happened. "Beth and Bill, I know right now it looks like a lot of gloom in here. All the tears you see are tears of joy and happiness. We have been having a family meeting. We have a big surprise for you. All we want to hear is Thank you and each of us gets a big hug and a kiss. As you already know, Grandpa and Sam are moving to Oregon. Beth and Bill, we would like to present you with a deed to this house, the land it sits on and everything in it. This is our way of saying thank you for all the care and love that you have given this family over the years. We know that both of you have made great sacrifices and have put up with a lot. There is not any way that we can repay you for all that you have done for the family. What you do with the house is up to you. It is yours now. Here is a piece of paper signed by Grandpa and Jack. Tomorrow, we will take care of the real thing." said Adam tearfully. Adam took out his check book and wrote a check for $500,000. This is my thank you present for taking care of these two all those many, many years. Now the tears really started flowing. Bill and Beth were honored and were really astounded by what has just happened.

Bill opened his mouth and started to speak. Adam stopped him. "Remember all we want from you two is Thank You."

"Thank you!" from both of them was barely audible . They rushed to Grandpa hugged him and gave him a big kiss. Then the rest of us got our turn.

"Beth, you know where I have hidden a bottle of champaign. I think that a toast is in order."

"I'll help her get the glasses and we be right back in." said Bill.

"Adam, that was beautiful. You said what I wanted to but couldn't. You really have a way with words." expressed Grandpa. "That was real rewarding. Thank you. Now do I get a hug and a kiss?"

"Only one you can have as many as you want." smiled Adam.

"It looks like the moving crew is here. Jack would you show them to the barn and have them load the buggy first." said Grandpa. "We will have to continue our meeting later."

"I wanted to find out about etc. etc. etc." lamented Sam.

"Later!" said Grandpa.
