Supernatural: Outer Beings
Chapter 45: The Knockout
"I don't like it here." I said slowly.
"It's always dark." Andrew said.
"But it's even darker than I thought." I frowned.
"Maybe it's in your head." Andrew said, "Maybe you're dreaming."
"I'm definitely dreaming, but I've been here before." I said, trying to remember.
"Do you even know why you're here?" Andy asked.
"Didn't I kill you?" I asked.
"Yeah, I think you did." Andy said, "All those voices in your head?the tumor couldn't take it."
"I have questions?Am I dead? The voices?Weren't you a vampire?" I asked.
"Everything changes." Andrew said, "Everything."
Chapter 45: The Curtain Call
"Ahhh!" I screamed out. We were in the car and John slammed on the breaks. We were headed to find Martin's body. Castiel's lead had taken us far beyond anywhere we thought we'd go. We hadn't found him yet but we were closer every day. I checked in with the boys, it seemed they had an idea on how to deal with Lucifer, though they kept it really quiet. Bobby and Castiel wouldn't even tell me. I didn't really mind because I was getting more useless by the day. Between the headaches and the sleepiness, I figured I didn't have long. I wished I was in my bed or in a nice hot bath, but I couldn't be farther from either one. With the Four Horsemen on the loose, it was chaos everywhere you looked.
"The tumor. Are we sure it's not operable?" John asked.
I nodded.
"I'm sorry. I just want more time." John said.
"Sorry, babe, but there's no more time." I smiled.
John smiled and looked away from the road, "You just called me babe." He said, looking back forward.
"I did." I smiled.
"So, we both feel the same way?about each other?" John asked.
"Yeah, I think we do." I said, "I love?"
We began slowing down. The car skidded to a stop and we were both shocked to see a couple of people fighting, but before we could even make a move for the door to break it up, they spun around and into the sky! It was a demon vs. an angel! The fight had started and we weren't even ready. It wasn't almost sundown.
"Stay here!" John commanded, racing out of the car. He stood in front of the car, looking up into the sky.
I was fine in that moment, the moment before my head felt like it was on fire! I screamed out in pain as something landed on the front of the car, shattering the front windows! I pushed the door open and spilled out onto the ground. The pain was too much, it felt like I was dying. I could hear John's voice but couldn't make out what he was saying. He was not audible. There was a voice in my head, though. It was loud. It sounded like a million people all talking at once! And all of a sudden it stopped and I opened my eyes.
"Are you okay? Speak to me!" John screamed at me.
"It's almost over." I said in a small voice.
"What?.what's almost over?" John asked.
"Everything." I said quickly, "I know how it ends."
"What? How can you know how it ends?" John asked.
My eyes centered on him, "We need to get to Chuck, the prophet."
"Why?" he asked.
"He's not a prophet." I said, getting back in the car.
"What about my car? We can't make it like this." John said.
"Grab me." I said quickly.
"Are we going to fly or something?"
"Or something." I said, grabbing him.
"What in the muddy hell was that?" John said, puking his insides out.
"Teleportation." I said quickly
"You can do that?" John asked.
"One of the first things I learned." I said, looking at a house.
"Wow." John groaned.
"He's there." I said a bit scared.
"Who?" John asked, standing beside me.
"God." I said slowly.
"When you say God?"
"Our lord and Savior." I answered.
"I thought we were looking for Chuck." John said, confused.
"Baby, he is God." I said, "How could I not have known? It's so simplistic that it's genius and totally something God would do."
"So, the spaz is God?"
"He's not a spaz, he's?he's in there." I said.
"Are we going to go in?"
"He'll be expecting that."
"Are we going to fight God? Have we bumped our head?" John asked.
"No, we're not going to fight him! He's God." I said.
"So you've said."
"What do you say to God?" I asked.
"The same thing you say when you don't think he's listening." John smiled, "Now, we're sure this Chuck guy is God, right?"
"I'm sure." I said.
"I think this is something you should do yourself." John said.
"Right." I said walking toward the house.
"I love you." John yelled.
I turned to him. I ran back to him and kissed him. It was the single best feeling I'd had to date. I walked away from him and into the house. As I walked through the front hall, I got a feeling of happiness. It was strange and peaceful. I found myself staring at an open computer. The computer had writing on it, so I looked. I read, "Nothing ever really ends, does it?" and it confirmed everything I felt.
"I know you're here dammit!" I shouted into the air, "Why is this happening to me?! What reason could you possibly have for doing this to me! I have done everything to save this world, why can't I be part of it?!"
There was no reply. Between asking my questions, the tears had begun. I couldn't stop them and they burned. I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned to see Castiel.
"You don't have time for this." Castiel said, "The world around you is crumbling."
"This is the point where I abandon all hope." I said.
"No. It's not." Castiel said, "The brothers need you."
"Right now, I need me!" I shouted, "Right now, I need?I need?"
"But you don't have it." Castiel said, "Life is going on."
"Life is coming to an end, Cas." I said softly.
"I don't believe life ends." Castiel said.
I frowned, "Says the angel." I said, "I'm supposed to live through this and end up with David Conrad."
Castiel looked at me.
"The cute guy from Ghost Whisperer." I said looking away, "You know, I'm in love. This isn't supposed to happen to me!"
"Somehow I don't see you living happily ever after." Castiel smiled.
I chuckled, "Me either. But it would have been nice." I said.
"I am sorry." Castiel said.
"Don't be sorry, fix it! You're an angel! I need healing; heal me!" I screamed, "Heal me." I said softly.
"I can't." Castiel said.
I picked up a glass paper weight on the table and threw it at the wall, causing it to shatter. I looked away from Castiel.
"Sam's plan is to let Lucifer in and jump into the prison created by the horseman's rings." Castiel said behind me.
I turned to him, angry, "And you're going to let him? Dean wouldn't!" I frowned.
"It's already being done." Castiel said.
I started to the door.
"You can't stop him. I tried." Castiel said.
"You didn't try hard enough!" I stopped, "I'm not going to let him die."
"I think we may have to watch this time." Castiel said.
"Do you know what that'll do to Dean? The only reason I'm even semi-ok with dying is because they would be together, but how can he survive without his brother?" I asked.
"Lucifer has to be stopped. It's the only way." Castiel said.
"Life isn't fair. I get it, but doesn't it have to be unbearable?" I asked, "What's it like, knowing you'll never die?"
"You should have asked me that before I went against my brethren." Castiel said.
I walked over to Castiel, "Castiel, I'm sorry it came to that?"
"Thank you?"
"?but the world is crumbling. And the boys need you." I said, touching his face, "I don't have a lot of time left, Cas. Please?help me."
Cas looked surprised, "I'll do all that I can." He said.
"Do more." I said.
Cas nodded, "Is that all?" he asked.
"No. I owe you so much." I said slowly. I was looking into his eyes, the eyes of an angel, "What the Hell, I'm dying right." I smiled, kissing him. He was shocked at first, but surprisingly gave in.
When the kiss ended, he stepped back and was silent. Nervous, I guess.
"I don't know where angels stand on gay kisses but?I guess it's pretty worthless after kissing other angels and all." I said sheepishly.
"It was probably my best kiss." Castiel smiled.
"If anyone asks, I didn't cry." I said, "When I die, will I be able to see them?"
"I don't know." Castiel said, "I am truly sorry."
I smiled, "Don't be. For the first, I feel like I'm not going to Hell for something." I said walking to the door, "Thanks again."
Castiel nodded.
As I walked back to the car, John jumped out and started asking me questions. I told him that God wasn't there, just a friend.
I woke up alone, in the car. Damn blackouts. The last thing I remembered was the road. I didn't fall asleep. How could I? There was too much going on to fall asleep. I got to thinking what might have happened if my mom and dad had still been alive. I wondered how life would have been different. And what about if John hadn't found me before the demons.
"You still would have died?probably sooner."
I turned to the driver's seat to see a very gothic version of myself.
"I know! You're going to ask what the Hell is going on and I'm going to tell you that you're hallucinating, but what if I didn't? What if I told you that you're going crazy? Or that you're just jonesing for a heart-to-heart with the one person who means more than anything to you." He smirked.
"I don't see Sam or Dean here." I said quickly.
"It's funny that you didn't say John." He smirked.
"Why doesn't the tumor just kill me? Does it have to torture me?" I asked.
"Relax." He chuckled, "I'm not here to torture you. You know us, we're just all sarcastic and bubbly."
"Where's my boyfriend?" I asked.
"Ho ho, you have a boyfriend now? Look at you, changing with the times. Who woulda thought you would go from being a kinda brave high school student with a serious naivety problem to a heroic super witch? I mean, even I didn't see that coming. I just figured we'd die trying to operate a gun." He said, "Or that vampire we dated would drain us. Or turn us. Or Rape us. Probably all of that in that order. Why does everyone love a vamp?"
"Where is my boyfriend?" I asked, "Why are we stopped?"
"I can't believe you're here, baby doll. I would have thought you'd be with the Winchesters. Chasing after them like the lovesick puppy you are." He said.
"I've already lost too many friends, I can't lose another!" I shouted, "Where is he?!"
"Relax. That big ole tumor on your head is causing all kinds of side effects. The anger, the hallucinations?the moral ambiguity." He said, "You think I want to be here, stuck here, talking to you?"
"I can't lose Dean or Sam. Or John." I felt anger building up inside me and my eyes fluttered, "Now tell me!"
"That's the anger I've been waiting for!" He said, leaning over closer, "You're going to die! Every dream you ever had ends here. All the notions of love and family, baby boy, they all end here. You can revert back to who you were or die like we always said you would."
I thought about what he was saying.
He smirked, "Unleash it, already. All the power you've been suppressing? Now is the time for you to?"
I turned to the car door and focused my energies on it, causing the door to explode out of the car!
"?do that." He smiled, "I think you're getting it now. Our story isn't about brotherly love, it's about the power."
I nodded and stepped out of the car. I walked to the trunk and pulled out all the weapons I could fit on myself and slammed the trunk down. I walked away, into the woods. I walked through the woods until I came upon something very ancient and very dark. It was an altar.
"You can just feel it, can't you?" The other me said, appearing behind the altar, "All the dark stuff coming from it. Seems wrong that it's going to save you."
"It's not going to save me. It's going to destroy me." I frowned.
"You still don't trust yourself" He asked.
"You don't want to do this." John Winchester said behind me.
We both looked at him.
"This is evil." John said.
"Didn't you make a deal with the devil yourself? To save your son." The other me said.
"Chalis, don't do this." John pleaded, "I know your father taught you better than this. Hell, for the short time I was with you, I taught you better than this."
"Cute. No, really. He's pretty sexy, but he has no point. If this could save the world, isn't it worth it?" The other me asked, "You're a hunter now. Time to do anything."
"If you do this, you're not a hunter anymore. You're what we hunt!" John shouted, "You're undoing all the good you did."
I thought about he just said.
"Look at your eyes, they're dark like a demon's eyes." John said.
"Seriously, you're going to listen to a dead man over your own self?" The other me asked, "On the other hand, you have always been on the weak side. I mean, Sam and Dean have had to pull your ass out of the fire more than a few times."
"That doesn't make you weak." John said, "That makes you human. Don't lose everything that makes you human."
"Your boyfriend is dead?what else could you possibly have to lose?" The other me asked.
"He isn't dead." I said quickly.
The other me smirked, "Face it. You fell asleep and he died. And the really sick part is that Martin killed him."
"Sam is scared of clowns. Dean is scared to fly." The other me said, "Do you remember what you're afraid of?"
"Sharks. Spiders. Snakes." I frowned.
"Look deepr, puddin." He smirked.
I stopped when I came to the gates of a mansion. The estate was huge and I walked with no caution. Like Alice, I was following my white rabbit. I felt a little dizzy and more than a little groggy. I touched my hand to my head, trying to put off the pain for just a little while longer. As I walked through the door of the mansion, I was thoroughly impressed. Something was definitely wrong, but the décor made it all seem like a better thing to do. I yawned as I entered the conservatory. There was a gasping noise, as if someone was trying to speak, but couldn't quite in the foyer. I rounded the corner to the foyer and almost fell to my knees. I stumbled a little, my feet felt like rubber and I couldn't really stand anymore. I slid to the floor, through the blood, and took John's head into my lap. Someone had slit his throat. Someone had left him there to die! I was shocked, sad, and outraged.
"I?I?" John said, causing more and more blood to spew from his neck.
'Stop! Just stop talking." I said, "What the fuck, what happened to you?"
"Martin?" John gasped, "I found?" he panted.
"Here?" I asked.
John nodded.
"You remember when we first met? You were trying to kill me because I was a witch." I smiled, tears forming in my eyes, "I held you to the ceiling?you shot me. Not really in that order, but?"
"?Love?" John said, but before he could stop, before he could finish, he took his last breath. He literally stopping breathing and his heart stopped pumping.
I sat on the floor, in his blood, cradling his head. The tears began to drop and I felt as if I could?as if I should do something more. I cried, but paused when I noticed that I was in the middle of a pentagram. My mind raced and I quickly came to the fact that John was a sacrifice of some sort. Someone lured him here. Someone lured him here and killed him.
"You are pathetic." Martin said, standing behind me, "You could have been so great."
"Betrayal." I frowned.
"What?" Martin asked.
"I asked myself what I was afraid and the answer is betrayal." I said, "It's more hurtful than I thought."
"Who'd you expect to be here? Sam? Dean? Daddy?" Martin asked, "Oh, I see, you thought I was going to be your mommy."
"Why?" I asked.
"Because there's only room for one powerful magic practitioner in these parts, hombre.' Martin said, moving sideways.
"You are a penis." I said, "A very small penis."
"Somebody's jealous." Martin said, "I didn't betray you. I was never your friend."
"Keep your friends close and your enemies closer, huh?" I said, "What about John? Did he deserve this?"
"Yes." Martin said, "You can't even begin to grasp my true age. And John deserved everything that came to him! John chose his side. I did this because everyone else is just a pawn. You spread your chaos and death and are cursed."
"I'm a curse?" I chuckled, "You have no idea what you're dealing with little boy."
Martin smirked, "Somebody's angry." He said.
"You expected me to come here for some big, climatic magical battle, but you came to die." I said angrily, "I'm not going to fight you. I'm going to destroy you."
Martin looked shocked, "Aresto!" he shouted, throwing his arms at me.
I merely chuckled, "Silly boy?that's just a parlor trick. Want to see something a little more dark?" I asked.
Martin looked shocked and began backing away. I walked towards him, tilting my head. I threw my hand forward, causing him to stick to the wall!
"You're going to kill me?" Martin asked.
"I bind you, Martin. I bind all your powers and hereby strip you of any power you could have. You are dead to the world of magic, now and forever." I said slowly.
"No! You son of a bitch!" Martin shouted.
"Not for a while," I said grabbing a gun from the holster and pointing it dead at his head, "For a while now I've just been the sun of darkness."
"Do it. Shoot me!" Martin said angrily, "It's what they want."
I wondered who they were. I wondered where they were. I was about to pull the trigger when I heard a voice.
"Don't." Sam's voice said behind me, "If you do this, you're just a monster."
"You're not Sam." I said without looking at him.
"What?! It's me, Chalis!" Sam said.
"Sam's dead." I said. That one really hurt, "Plus, you're too late."
"How?" Sam asked.
"He's a monster!" Martin chuckled, "He's broken and dead inside."
"Shut up!" Sam shouted.
"He's right." I said slowly.
"No, he's not." Sam said frantically.
"Why do you look like him?" I asked.
"I don't?I am him!" Sam said, "I came back."
I turned to him and dropped the gun. He was telling the truth. I just knew he was, somehow. I just stared at him for a minute, then ran to him and kissed him!
"How?" I asked.
"It's not important." Sam said.
"Does Dean know?" I asked.
"No. And he's not going to. Not yet." Sam said, "You're still alive."
"Barely." I frowned.
"I saw John's body." He said.
"How'd you find me?" I asked.
"I'm sorry about John." Sam said.
"I thought you were just another?I can't tell you how happy I am?ow." I said.
"Ow?" Sam asked.
"Ow ow ow! Ouch!" I said, falling to the floor, "It really hurts!" I said, feeling faint.
While Sam was tending to me, Martin fell from the wall and grabbed the gun I dropped. He aimed at us and I pushed Sam out of the way of the bullet and ducked myself! I grabbed a dagger from my holster and threw it at Martin's head, causing it to crash deep within his skull! He crashed to the floor just before I blacked out.
As I slipped back into consciousness, I noticed Sam standing over by the dresser, watching me. I panicked when I couldn't feel or move my legs. I could barely move my head and arms.
"You're, uh?in the final stages." Sam said quietly.
"That's promising." I said quickly.
We both just stared at each other, not saying anything. The room was so quiet and there was no movement.
"Why are you so quiet? I'm just dying." I smiled.
"Are you sure there's no other way?" Sam asked.
"This is natural. I was meant to die today." I said, inhaling, "Maybe I'll fall into a mystical hole and come back."
Sam didn't say anything.
"It's funny?"
"Nothing about this is funny!" Sam shouted.
I gulped, "Oh come on, all the demons I've hunted and I die because my brain got a pimple." I chuckled dryly.
"Do you know what you're saying? You're dying! You don't get to?"
"Don't you dare tell me what I don't get to do!" I shouted, "You think I don't know what's happening! You think I haven't stayed awake for hours, wondering why this happened to me?! That's your deal, you're always trying to find a different, easier way! Sam, there's no easy way to die."
"I want to help you." Sam said angrily.
"Instead of spending the last time you have with me, you're trying to save me." I said, "It's part of the reason I love you, you know. You're freakin stubborn but if you don't get over here and just hold me, I'm going to hex you!"
Sam smiled and walked over to the bed, lying next to me. He cuddled up next to me and just held me. It was like that for an hour or two; I lost track of time from what I suspected was the tumor. It was nice and peaceful and wished that I could live in that moment forever. It was hard knowing that I would die and Sam would grow old and get married and have kids. If I wasn't already dying, it would have killed me. I was fine right where I was until it happened. I started coughing really hard and then the blood started coming.
"Chalis!" Sam panicked, "Chalis, talk to me!"
I was choking. My head was on fire! I couldn't see anything or feel anything anymore. My body was convulsing. I couldn't hear Sam anymore. He was gone?or maybe I was gone. Either way, we were parted. I couldn't hear anything, only feel the peace.
"You're not done yet?" A voice called.
