"What did you do in high school for fun?" Rupert asked.
"I was on the track team all four years," Wyatt replied. "It became a way of life for me. I had a lot of friends who were gay. A couple were transgendered. I had a lot of theater friends because I liked acting, singing, and dancing. I was in several shows at school. I had thought about theater as a college track, but I don't know if I could live the starving actor's life until I am discovered."
"Do you sing or play an instrument?" I asked.
"I sing," Wyatt replied. "I play the piano, the guitar, the banjo, and the fiddle. Why?"
"Just curious," I replied. "Why aren't you in the music program?"
"I thought about it," Wyatt added. "I've written a few songs, which I am told are fairly good."
"Trev is a music major," Rupert said. "What's your major, Rob?"
"Undecided," Rob replied. "I am officially a sociology major. I'm learning very quickly this semester I won't be a sociology major for very long. Who knows, I might follow in Trevor's Dad's shoes and become an agriculture major."
"Agriculture?" Makato asked. "As in dirt and tractors and cows and sheep and pigs agriculture major?"
"Not exactly," Rob replied. "Trevor's Dad is CEO of an organic farm operation. Five thousand acres of organic farm."
"I don't think my Dad has been on a tractor since he left his family's farm," I added. "He's usually immersed in Excel spreadsheets or marketing plans. Although, my Dad does have an old cow named Mabel. My brothers, Sam and Tim, talk to Mabel a lot. She gives them advice on living the life a cow would be proud of."
"Has the fresh air fried your mind, Trevor?" Grayson asked. "I remember you mentioned Mabel when we first met."
"She's a wise cow," I continued. "My Dad often gives his talks on Sunday morning about Mabel's advice to him on certain societal issues."
"I hate to break up this party, but I need to head to class," Rob added. "I'm looking forward to Thursday morning. This gym group idea was a great one."
"The gym will give us time to bond," I suggested. "Wyatt, I'll see you in class tomorrow. Wouldn't it be interesting if Stephanie sat beside you in our political science class?"
"I used to like you, Trevor," Wyatt replied with a smile. "I won't put on deodorant tomorrow. It will be a deterrent."?"
"Trevor could loan you a photo of Mabel," Rupert added. "You could tell Stephanie she's your girlfriend from your hometown."
"It's time to disband the group for the day," Makato said. "This conversation is getting out of hand."
Chapter 02: Is He or Isn't He
"Do you think Wyatt is really straight, Trev?" Rupert asked one afternoon while we were studying together at the Student Union.
"Ah...," I stammered. "Why do you ask?"
"He seems to fit so perfectly with an all gay gym group for one thing," Rupert said.
"His parents are two gay men, Rupert," I said in an unamused tone of voice. "Why wouldn't he be straight? He said he was straight. So, I'm assuming he is straight. Besides, what difference does it make?"
"It doesn't," Rupert replied. "Unless... unless... unless you like him more than you like me."
"Are you jealous, Rue?" I asked.
"I'm not jealous, Trev," Rupert replied. "I just want to know where I stand."
"Where we stand?" I asked. "Where I thought we stand is together as boyfriends. Do you have any other ideas?"
"No," Rupert replied. "I just wanted clarification."
"Are we good now?" I asked.
"Yes, Trev," Rupert said. "We're good."
We continued studying.
"Trev," Rupert spoke up after several minutes. "You'd tell me if you were interested in someone else, right?"
"Rupert," I said quietly as I closed the lid of my laptop. "We said in the very beginning we would be honest with one another. So, I can safely say I will let you know if someone else comes along to give me cause to question our commitment to one another. I hope you will do the same. We are young. Maybe too young to be in a serious relationship. I like you a lot, Rupert. But, I don't know, other than us right now, what a relationship looks like or feels like. Let's just say we're a work in progress."
"I can live with a work in progress," Rupert replied as he turned his attention to his paper he was writing.
We worked for the next hour in silence. Rupert worked on his paper for history. I worked on my part of my presentation in political science class.
"Trev," Rupert said after several minutes of silence.
"Yes, Rupert," I said trying to keep my tone of voice in check.
"Are you seriously planning on pursuing a career as a minister?" Rupert asked quietly.
"My plan to become a minister is just what it is, a plan," I explained. "However, I may decide to become a bank robber instead. I don't know. Is my becoming a minister an issue with you?"
"I think so, Trev," Rupert continued. "I'm still in therapy. I talked about my involvement with someone who wants to become a minister—albeit a liberal minister. Religion of any kind still bothers me, Trev. I have bad dreams concerning religion gone bad. I want to say I can overcome this phobia—which is what my therapist says it is. But, I don't know if I can. Right now, Trev, I need to tell you I am a fucked-up mess, and I don't know if I'll ever recover."
"Rue," I said as I moved to a seat beside him. I put my arm around his shoulders. "I know this is hard for you. I know how you feel, Rue. My parents were a lot like yours. I had two very distinct advantages. Their names are Philip and Jeffery. If it hadn't been for them, I am certain I'd be where you are right now. So, Rue, I'm not saying I want to end our relationship, but I will understand if you want to move on with someone who can help you through this and not throw you into a tailspin."
"Thanks, Trev," Rupert replied. "Can we just stay boyfriends until we both understand what our next course of action will be?"
"Yup," I replied. "We're still boyfriends until further notice."
"My roommate is away this weekend," Rupert said with his sexiest voice. "He left three hours ago. Any ideas?"
"Yup," I said as I removed my arm from Rupert's shoulder and feverishly slipped my belongings into my back pack. Rupert did the same.
Once were in Rupert's dorm room, and we determined the roommate had indeed left, we stripped.
Rupert pulled me close to him and began kissing me.
"Ooooooooo!" I moaned as I gave in to Rupert's spirited advances.
As Rupert and I continued to kiss, he began to move me backwards to the bed. When I felt the bed against my thighs, Rupert helped me position myself on my back. He didn't stop kissing.
Rupert crawled on top of me and settled his body on top of mine. Our dicks strained in the heat of compassionate kisses.
I wrapped my arms around Rupert's back and pulled him toward me as if I could make him closer to me than he already was.
I felt the pulsing of Rupert's heart, and his labored breathing.
"Need it, Rue," I panted between kisses.
"Aren't you going to beg me?" Rupert hissed as he paused kissing me.
"Don't do this to me, Rue," I hissed back. "I need you in me. I need you in me now, Rue. Please, Rue, don't wait."
"It turns me on when you beg, Trev," Rupert hissed at me again as he grabbed the condoms and lube off the night stand.
Rupert suited up, pulled my legs over his shoulders, spread my legs, raised his body up by his muscular arms, and aligned his hard dick with my hole.
I looked into Rupert's eyes. I saw lust. I saw need. I saw power.
"God, Rupert! Fuck me! Fuck me hard," I begged.
Rupert smiled as me. Our eyes were still locked.
"Ooooooooo!" I moaned as Rupert's dick began to disappear into my ass.
When I felt Rupert's trimmed pubic hair touch my balls, I almost shot a load.
"You feel so good in me, Rue," I moaned. "So good."
Rupert took my comment as authority to pound my ass. Hard, swift strokes brought us together like nothing we had ever done before. We were one. He owned my body. I gave him permission to use me with one look as if to say, `I'm yours.'
Rupert kept pounding. I kept moaning. Sweat dripped from Rupert's muscled body onto mine. I felt every drip. I embraced Rupert's back. I felt his muscles underneath his sweat covered body move like a ballet dancer moves on stage.
"I'm coming, Trev," Rupert shouted as he began to spurt rope after rope of cum into the condom.
His body settled on top of mine after his convulsions stopped. I held on to him like he became my life preserver.
"Shit, Trev," Rupert finally said as we lay stuck together with our common sweat. "I've never felt anything so amazing!"
"Amazing is right!" I whispered. "Just think of the possibilities."
"Don't suggest anything you don't want to finish," Rupert whispered as he kissed my forehead. "I could stay like this all night. I could do a repeat performance."
"I'm not going anywhere at the moment," I whispered back.
~~~~~
"My roommate Greyson will be joining us today at the gym," I explained to Rupert. "Wyatt invited two guys who he knows from Chicago. So, the group is growing."
"Terrific!" Rupert replied. "Give us time and we can just take over the entire weight room on Tuesday and Thursday."
Rob, Makato, and Greyson arrived before the others. Finally, Wyatt and his two friends joined us.
"Guys," Wyatt began, "these are close family friends of mine from Chicago. The tall one is Henry. The other one is Jefferson. From left to right, Trevor, Rupert, Greyson, Rob, and Makato. So, we are now eight."
"Welcome, guys! Let's get rolling!" Makato exclaimed.
We headed to the locker room and found lockers in a group. I watched Rupert watch Rob, Makato, and Greyson watch Henry and Jefferson undress.
Henry towered above everyone at six-four at least. His ebony black skin shimmered in the bright lights in the locker room. I watched his muscles undulate under his taunt skin. Big muscular ass. And, holy shit! His dick looked huge and it wasn't even starting to grow.
I quickly looked away. My eyes moved to Jefferson. He looked as though he had the genes of a Greek God. Black hair. Olive skin. Neatly trimmed chest, stomach, and pubic hair covered his well-worked gym body. He must stand only about three inches shorter than Henry. I didn't want to glimpse his dick for fear I'd have a sudden woody.
"How do you guys know each other?" I asked. "From high school?"
"We just bumped into one another," Henry explained. "Wyatt here went to Francis Parker—the expensive private school. We on the other hand went to the high school down the street from our tenement. We would have become drugged out homeless people if it hadn't been for both of Wyatt's dads. They rescued us from a drug bust. Don't ask me how! I don't want to know. But, Jefferson and I became indebted to Wyatt's dads."
"From Henry's explanation, you'd think my dads turned Supermen and swooped in to save them," Wyatt said with a smile. "My dads liked these two assholes. I've come to like them too despite their despicable past."
"Of course, we did save Wyatt's ass one time," Jefferson began. "Some hot shot big guy had Wyatt pinned to a wall. He looked as though he were ready to make Wyatt his boy. He ran like a bat out of hell when he saw Henry walk around the corner in his direction."
"So, are you two straight like Wyatt?" Rupert asked.
"Wyatt straight?" Jefferson asked. "You've got to be kidding me!"
"Jefferson!" Wyatt protested. "I'm straight as they come!"
"So you say," Henry suggested. "You'll be straight until you figure out you're not. But, Rupert, to answer your question, yes. We are straight like Wyatt until he comes to his senses."
"This is the last time you'll be invited to join our gym group," Wyatt exclaimed.
We hit the gym. The weight room seemed a little crowded, but we worked out a routine. Henry and Jefferson quickly became our role models as they coaxed us on to do more and more. Finally, we brought our sweaty bodies back to the locker room to begin our transformation into tolerable human beings again.
We gathered around a table at the pasta place once we had food after showers and dressing.
"I take it we are the token straight dudes in the group," Jefferson said at a time we least expected him to speak. "We don't mind. If the ladies are circling the group, we won't need to fight off the competition."
"You won't have any competition from us except for Wyatt," Makato added. "And, Wyatt, I'm curious to know why Henry and Jefferson think you might not be as straight as you say you are."
"They're just fucking with your head, Makato," Wyatt replied. "I'm as straight as they are."
"Local mythology paints a picture of us black dudes going after whatever is close when we're worked up," Henry replied. "I believe some of you white boys call it being on the down low. Whatever it is, if it comes my way I won't say no."
"We're happy you clarified your position," Greyson replied. "And, correct me if I'm wrong, you won't be the one with the dick inside one of our orifices."
"You are correct in your assumptions, Greyson," Henry replied. "I need to be quiet now. Wyatt is giving me the evil eye. I think I've said too much for his taste in conversation. I hope you dudes didn't take offense. I'm what you might call unfiltered."
"It's like a breath of fresh air, Henry," I added.
"One of Trevor's dads used to hang out with homeless people and drug addicts in San Francisco," Rupert explained. "Right, Trev?"
"Yes," I replied. "Dad J worked as a youth minister in a United Church of Christ in the Castro. His job entailed going into the shadows of the Castro and helping men and women, many of them gay, who struggle with drugs, homelessness, or mental illness—sometimes all three. He has a lot of stories to tell. Most of them will bring a tear to your eyes."
"I wanna meet this dude," Jefferson replied. "We could have used him when we were growing up. My Dad bit the dust in a back alley of Chicago as he pandered for drugs. My Mom sold her body to keep food on the table. So, yea! I want to meet your dad."
"I'll let him know," I replied.
"His Dad is running for the House of Representatives," Greyson added. "He's an awesome guy."
"I'll be damned," Jefferson replied.
~~~~~
I took my seat for the political science course and began reviewing my paper due next week. Wyatt slipped into the seat beside me.
"How's it going Trevor?" Wyatt asked.
"Good," I replied. "Don't look now, Wyatt, but I believe Stephanie is headed your way."
"Shit!" Wyatt hissed. "Oh! Hi, Stephanie! Thank you for joining us."
"I thought of you last night when I watched a music video on YouTube," Stephanie said. "The dancer looked a lot like you. Same blond hair. Same height. Same build. Same eyes. Are you a dancer, Wyatt?"
"I'll need to watch the video," Wyatt said with a fake smile plastered across his face.
"I'll send you a link," Stephanie responded. She looked as though she were ready to jump into Wyatt's lap.
"Thank you, Stephanie," Wyatt said calmly. "How's Dirk?"
"I haven't talked with him," Stephanie replied. "He's such an ass. I'd never have wanted to be around him if I had known he was such a control freak."
"He seemed a little vindictive also," Wyatt added. "I'll certainly avoid him when possible."
"Wyatt," Stephanie said as she slid closer to Wyatt. "I thought it would be nice if you and I could meet for coffee sometime to get to know one another better."
"Ahm...," Wyatt stammered. "I'm kinda busy this week. Trevor and I need to work on our project for this class. Plus, Trevor is also helping me prepare for a vocal audition. I'm considering changing my major to the music school."
"What song will you use for your audition?" Stephanie asked.
"One I wrote," Wyatt replied.
"Maybe you could sing it for me some time," Stephanie suggested.
"I'll send you the link when it's ready," Wyatt replied.
"It would be nicer if I could hear it in person," Stephanie suggested.
Wyatt stole a quick glance from me. The fear in his eyes screamed `help me!'
"You know what, Stephanie," Wyatt responded. "I'm not ready for any kind of relationship. I'm getting over a very painful break up. I'm not yet ready for the dating scene. I hope you don't mind."
"What?" Stephanie exclaimed. "Am I not good enough for you, Wyatt Delmonico? Am I just a nothing girl from Southern Illinois? Or maybe, Wyatt Delmonico, you're not interested in women. Maybe you're like the others you hang around with all day. Maybe you're gay, too! Am I right, Wyatt? Am I?"
Stephanie huffed off to the back of the classroom. The professor who had just arrived smiled at Wyatt.
"She seems little high strung to me," the professor almost whispered so Wyatt and I could hear her, but no one else in the classroom.

We sat in the pasta place savoring lunch after our workout at the gym. All eight of us began discussing my father's debate last night with Arnold White.
"Your Dad was terrific, Trevor," Wyatt added. "His opponent looked as though someone spray painted his smile on him. He also didn't have an independent idea in his entire speech. Where did the Republican party find this nitwit?"
"Arnold needs coaching," Henry added. "A stiff mannequin would have done better. I can just picture a speech coach using Hamlet's monologue in Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark to clue the dude in on speech making techniques.
Speak the speech, I pray you, as I pronounced it to_
you, trippingly on the tongue: but if you mouth it,
as many of your players do, I had as Lief the
town-crier spoke my lines. Nor do not saw the air
too much with your hand, thus, but use all gently;
for in the very torrent, tempest, and, as I may say,
the whirlwind of passion, you must acquire and beget
a temperance that may give it smoothness. O, it
offends me to the soul to hear a robustious
periwig-pated fellow tear a passion to tatters, to
very rags, to split the ears of the groundlings, who
for the most part are capable of nothing but
inexplicable dumbshows and noise: I would have such
a fellow whipped for o'erdoing Termagant; it
out-Herod's Herod: pray you, avoid it._
Seven eyes stared at Henry.
"What?" Henry said in response to our silence. "You think no overgrown black dude knows Shakespeare? He's my favorite writer dude."
"No," I finally said. "I'm not surprised you know the Hamlet monologue, but I would never have put Arnold White in the company of a speech coach who even knew Shakespeare existed.
"You've got the accent down, too, Henry," Grayson added.
"You should hear him sing some of the Broadway musical numbers," Jefferson said.
"Henry and Jefferson do some mean duets," Wyatt added. "I'm trying to convince both of them to switch their majors to music. But, nooooo! Henry wants to major in American literature. Jefferson wants to major in American history."
"Why American literature, Henry," Rupert asked.
"I wanted to major in Greek mythology, but there's not a big demand for Greek mythology scholars," Henry explained. "I really want to write historical novels. So, I thought American literature will give me a good background."
"What would you write about?" Makato asked.
"The first would be our story in the hood—Jefferson and me," Henry replied. "Trust me. Our lives mirror some horror stories."
"Jefferson," Rob began. "What's your motive with American history?"
"Politics," Jefferson replied. "Trevor's Dad is my role model."
"I somehow believe you both will do well," I said.
"Ahm...," a voice beside me said. "Are you Trevor Harris-LeBlanc?"
"Yup," I replied. "You look very familiar."
"I'm Landon, Daniel's brother," he explained. "Daniel knew Sam and Chris."
"Of course!" I replied. "I remember now. Daniel and Frank."
"Yup" Landon replied.
"Grab a chair and join us," I added. "We come here every Tuesday and Thursday after the gym. Guys, this is Landon whose brother is a friend of Sam and Chris. Landon, clockwise around the table, Rupert, Rob, Makato, Wyatt, Henry, and Jefferson."
"It's nice to meet all of you," Landon replied. "I'm still acclimating myself to living in the dorm. It's a change from Frank and Daniel's house. They are all packed up and ready to move. You guys go to the gym together?"
"Twice a week," Rupert said. "You're welcome to join us."
"Thanks," Landon replied. "Daniel bugs me almost every day to start going to the gym on a regular basis. What time?"
"Ten," Makato replied. "If you need help with a routine, I'd be happy to help you develop one."
"Really?" Landon said as he focused on Makato's body. "I'd really appreciate the help."
"We should meet at the gym over the weekend," Makato suggested. "I could see what you can do. We can draft a plan to get you toned."
"I don't suppose I'll ever have a body like yours," Landon said.
"It just takes time," Makato replied.
I believe I could see eyes fixed upon the other. Makato. Landon. I looked over at Rob. He wasn't smiling.
"What's your major, Landon?" Rob asked.
"Political Science," Landon replied. "After dealing with my fucked-up family, I have decided to devote myself to public service. My main goal will be to make the right-wing idiots understand they can't trample all over someone else's beliefs."
"What happened with your parents?" Grayson asked.
"My brother Daniel and I suffered the same fate," Landon began to explain. "We were disowned by our parents when they found out we were gay. They eliminated Daniel before they eliminated me."
"I can relate, Landon," I added.
"Speaking of relating," Makato said. "I gotta run. I'll see you, Landon, on Saturday around 10. I'll see the rest of you dudes when I see you."

"Hello, Dad," I said as Dad J answered his phone. "How's the campaign going?"
"I'm getting to know every baby and every rubber chicken in the district," Dad J said. "I'm happy you came into our lives later in your life."
"How are the dynamic duo?" I asked.
"They're fine," Dad J said. "We had another plant incident. This one involved a new plant. Unfortunately, its demise occurred in the living room."
"They seem to have a fixation with plants," I said with a smile. "How did Sam and Tim explain this one?"
"The plant wanted to go outside with the dogs, but it bumped into a table thus shattering the pot the now dead plant lived in. Philip said something about it not being a dead rat. Fortunately, Sam and Tim did not hear his comment. Otherwise, I suspect we'd have some dead rats appear unexpectedly. How's school?"
"Going great, Dad," I replied. "It's been fun getting to know some of the guys I hang out with. Wyatt, Rupert, Grayson, and Rob you know. Rob's friend Makato joins us at the gym every Tuesday and Thursday. I'm not certain if they are friends or boyfriends. We met Henry and Jefferson for the first time today. They are friends of Wyatt. Great guys. And, Landon—Daniel's younger brother—saw us at the pasta place. He's joining us next Tuesday."
"What about classes?" Dad J asked.
"They're great so far," I replied. "I'm four weeks into the semester, and I haven't panicked yet. How's Dad P?"
"Busy," Dad J replied. "He has added twenty new employees since you went away to school. The town is booming. Sam and Chris have created quite a stir in town. He's moved his office into the old Trust Bank building. Chris has energized his students. They've planned a great opening show for the end of November. Charlie Williamson has gone on a grand investment binge. So, nothing is really different!"
"I'm not missing much, then?" I asked.
"Nope," Dad J said. "How's your love life?"
"Dad!" I exclaimed. "You can't ask me about my love life. You're my Dad!"
"Just curious," Dad J added. "You and Rupert are doing okay?"
"Yes," I replied. "We've agreed to continue as boyfriends. We aren't eliminating the possibility we might move on from one another if our interests change."
"It's good you're honest with one another," Dad J said. "I need to get ready for another meet and greet. I want you to know Dad P and I are proud of you, Trevor. You have a good head on your shoulders."
"Thanks, Dad," I replied. "I learned how to cope from you and Dad P."
"We'll talk over the weekend, Trevor," Dad J said. "Dad P will want to talk with you, too."
"Bye, Dad," I said. "Love you."
"Love you, too!"

"Trevor," Wyatt said. We had worked on our political science project all afternoon. "Can I ask you a question?"
"Sure!" I replied.
"Do you ever wonder what it might be like to be straight?" Wyatt asked.
"Not really," I replied. "I suppose I have a curiosity, but I haven't used a lot of time thinking about being straight. Why?"
"I've been thinking a lot about being gay," Wyatt continued. "I've been thinking about what it feels like to kiss a guy. To hold a guy's hand. To touch a guy's body."
"To have sex with a guy?" I asked.
"Yea," Wyatt said quietly.
"Is this a problem for you?" I asked.
"I wanted to be straight," Wyatt replied. "Now, I'm not sure what I want. Ever since Henry and Jefferson kidded me about being gay instead of straight, I've been trying to figure out where my head is with my sexuality."
"I wouldn't really be the one to offer professional advice," I began. "But, if you're interested in experimenting, I'm certain you could find someone to help."
"How do I find someone to help?" Wyatt asked with a smile. "Take a display ad in the New York Times?"
"I thought you might try something more local," I replied.
"I'll look around," Wyatt replied. "Did you always know you were gay?"
"Once I figured out being gay meant wanting to look at men's crotches in tight jeans, I convinced myself I wanted to be gay," I explained. "I didn't wake up one day and say, `Hey, world. I'm gay!' Why the deliberation suddenly?"
"I've never been turned on by a man before," Wyatt began.
"And, now a man has turned you on," I added.
"Sort of," Wyatt replied.
"Have you ever been turned on by a woman?" I asked.
"Not really," Wyatt replied.
"So, this man who turns you on is the first person you've had sexual fantasies about?" I asked.
"Sort of," Wyatt replied again.
"I'm not giving you professional advice here, but, because this man turns you on like no other person, you would qualify as gay," I continued.
"Especially since the thought of sticking my dick into some chick gives me a bad case of nightmares," Wyatt admitted.
"You've answered your own question, Wyatt," I replied. "Is this something you want to take public or leave in the closet for a while until you've made your final decision?"
"Leave it in the closet," Wyatt replied. "I need to give this more thought."
"Your Dads could probably help you wrestle with this idea," I suggested. "Or, if you don't want to talk with your Dads until you have a firmer decision, you could talk to my Dad. He's a good listener."
"Let me think about talking with someone," Wyatt replied.
We put our heads back into concentrating on our project.
Suddenly, something hit me.
"Who's the guy?" I asked.
"I'd rather not say," Wyatt replied. "I don't want to destroy a friendship over this just yet."
~~~~~
Rupert and I sat at Starbucks discussing our week. It had been a long one for both of us.
"Have you noticed Wyatt being a little distance this past week?" Rupert asked.
"No," I said without thinking. "I haven't noticed. He's the same Wyatt he was the day before. Why?"
"Just curious," Rupert replied. "Yesterday, he seemed to be in dreamland somewhere. He wasn't involved in the conversation much except for a few `yes' or `no' answers. He wasn't even reacting to Henry and Jefferson like he normally does."
"Maybe he had a difficult day?" I suggested.
"How could he have had a difficult day on Thursday at ten in the morning?" Rupert added.
"You're probably right, though, Rupert. He didn't enthuse as much as usual," I replied. "He came to class late today, too."
"Speaking of Wyatt," Rupert said as he nodded toward the door.
Wyatt saw us and headed our direction.
"Hey, guys," Wyatt said to us. "Mind if I join you?"
"Please sit," Rupert replied.
"Thanks," Wyatt replied. "Let me get something to drink, and I'll be right back."
Once Wyatt had slipped off to order, Rupert turned to me, "Wyatt looks like shit!"
"He does look a little disheveled," I agreed.
"Do you want to handle the discussion?" Rupert asked.
"I'm not pushing any buttons," I replied.
"Someone needs to," Rupert said as Wyatt returned to the table with his coffee.
"I hope I'm not interrupting," Wyatt said once he had a sip of his coffee.
"Nope," Rupert replied. "Trev and I were just discussing our conversation yesterday at the pasta place. You seemed distracted."
"Sorry, guys," Wyatt replied. "I haven't meant to be such shitty company. Not only am I moving through some personal angst, but I got a ton of shit dumped on me from a chick I saw during the summer. She's a great advertisement why guys should all be gay. She's a real witch!"
"Want to talk about it?" I asked.
"Not right now," Wyatt replied. "I just want to relax and forget about her. I appreciate your concern, though."
"If you change your mind, just say so," I added.
"Thanks," Wyatt replied. "I'll get through this. It might take a while, but I will get through this."
Wyatt's phone buzzed. He dug out his phone.
"Shit!" Wyatt said in a loud voice. "Ms. Witch wants me to call her. I should go. I don't want to be screaming my brains out in the middle of Starbucks."
"Call us if you need to talk, Wyatt," I said as he gathered his stuff. "Any time, Wyatt. Call anytime."
"Thanks," Wyatt said as he hurried out of the coffee shop.
"He looked worried," Rupert added as we watched Wyatt disappear. "What in God's name could set this chick off?"
"Wyatt wouldn't hurt a fly!" I added. "I thought Stephanie turned out to be a witch. This one sounds even worse."
"I've made a decision," Rupert exclaimed. "I'm taking you out to dinner. Somewhere cheap, of course, but I'm taking you out. My treat. Do you want to go to the burger joint, the pizza joint, the chicken joint, or the Thai joint?"
"Thai joint," I replied. "I'll spring for dessert."
"Dessert will be you, sweetie," Rupert hissed as he kissed my hand.
~~~~~
"I like your roommate," I said to Rupert as I snuggled closer to him on Saturday morning. "He leaves almost every weekend."
"It is convenient, isn't it," Rupert agreed. "What's on your agenda for today?"
"Study," I replied. "I need to make the final changes on my part of the project Wyatt and I are doing. This is the mid-project point. Next will be comparing our analysis with the election results."
"Will you be seeing Wyatt today?" Rupert asked.
"No," I replied. "He had something else he needed to take care of. Hopefully, he's doing better today. Since you bought dinner last night, I'll buy breakfast."
"You're on," Rupert replied as we both slipped out of bed.
My phone rang. It was Wyatt. I answered on speaker phone.
"What's up, Wyatt?" I asked.
"Trevor," a voice said. "This is Wyatt's Dads, Biron and Alex... Wyatt tried to commit suicide last night. He'll be okay. He wanted me to tell you, and he said not to worry."
"We saw him yesterday," I said. "He seemed agitated with some girl he dated over the summer. He really went over the edge when she texted him while he sat with us at Starbucks. She insisted Wyatt call her."
"She's been hassling Wyatt for a month," Biron explained. "Did he tell you why?"
"No," I replied.
"We'll let him tell you," Biron replied. "He's become very fond of you, Trevor. He trusts you."
"When can we see him?" I asked.
"We'll call you when the doctors tell us he can have visitors," Biron replied. "It might be tomorrow."
"Okay," I replied. "I appreciate your call."
"Are you okay, Trev?" Rupert asked.
"Yes," I replied. "Actually, no. I'm not okay. Something is going on, and I don't like it."
"I'll help you get through this, Trev," Rupert replied. "No matter what's going on, I'll help you through this."
"Thank you, Rupert," I replied. "I appreciate what you just said... More than you know."
