A TALE OF TWO BOYBANDS
CHAPTER XXIII
**
When the three Backstreet Boys arrived at the studio, one of their management personnel employees regretfully informed them that their studio session was delayed until the afternoon. Apparently, there was an emergency at AJ's house. Of course, they all knew very well that their session was delayed due to AJ and Nick's late fuck in the afternoon. Brian didn't mind leaving and returning to work later in the afternoon. The delay actually worked to his convenience, allowing him some time to bond with Justin, who was having a difficult time away from his normal setting.
Upon returning the studio, Kevin, Brian, and Howie gathered at the table and waited patiently for their remaining two bandmates to make their grand appearance. And grand appearance, they made. AJ showed up in a classy striped Armani suit decked with a cow print hat, dark Ray-bans, and a cigar between his two set of teeth. Oh, yes, best of his accessories was his young lover, Nick Carter, who adorned his lanky arm. When they sat down, Kevin got up from his seat and began handing the day's agenda to everyone at the table. They had a tight schedule ahead of them. A deadline was set by management for the band to record at least one song. Kevin began explaining, but was soon interrupted.
"What the hell are you doing?" AJ snatched the papers from Kevin's hand, causing paper cuts. "When you decided to betray us, you have waived your position as band leader to band outcast. I have since taken upon myself the duties to lead this band into the new millenium."
Kevin clenched his fist, trying to fight back the anger brooding in his chest. Brian sensed Kevin's emotional turmoil and reached for Kevin's hand. Kevin looked down at his cousin, who silently pleaded with his eyes with him to remain calm. Kevin nodded and took his seat beside Brian thus commencing the meeting. Brian read the lyrics of a new song brought to them by their management team. Within minutes, Brian was humming to the tune of the song in his mind. By late afternoon, he was ready to record. His bandmates looked at him with awe. He worked in the studio with great ease, singing the song perfectly, hitting all the right notes. When Brian was finished with his verse, AJ stepped into the studio, but was asked to leave. Apparently, Brian had done such a great job that AJ's vocals were no longer needed for the song. Brian did not wait for AJ to return to the conference. At the start of the meeting, AJ had informed the band that their goal was to record one song- one song only. Once completed, they were free to leave.
Kevin followed his cousin out of the building and hopped inside Brian's BMW. As soon as his cousin was secured in his seat, Brian sped out of the bigger city and into the smaller town, where they lived. Brian drove past the only post office, the only school, the only gas station, and the only church and police station, only to stop in front of the only market. Kevin, bewildered by Brian's unexpected stop, followed his cousin into the market. No matter what time of day it was, Kevin and Brian were blessed with the privilege of walking around town in their own skin. Although, everyone in town knew their celebrity status, they respected their right to an ordinary life. Of course, most of them feared Brian as well. He was never a pleasant encounter to many.
"What are you doing, Brian?" Kevin asked Brian.
"Getting Justin some things." Brian answered, eyeing the magazines.
"Why are we in the magazine aisle?" Kevin asked.
"I don't really know what Justin likes. I thought the magazines would help." Brian explained. "Help me out. Which one should I get? Teen Beat or Bop? What about Popstar?"
"I don't know Brian. They all seemed the same to me."
"The same! No way. On this one, Justin is wearing a black sweater whereas this one he's wearing a gray sweater." Brian gathered a copy of each magazine. "I'll just have to buy them all. So I can get the bigger picture and not miss any tidbit."
"Whatever." Kevin said, shaking his head, amused by his cousin's love struck teenager persona.
Kevin followed Brian from aisle to aisle as Brian filled their cart with useless toilettes. Their cart was full, yet, Brian couldn't stop picking up things. Brian picked up Crest Toothpaste, but immediately removed it, replacing it with a box of Colgate toothpaste. He flipped the pages of a magazine and flashed it in front of Kevin.
"See, if I didn't buy this magazine, I would have gotten the wrong toothpaste." Brian said, pointing out to the questionnaire on page 24.
Finally, everything on Brian's shopping list was crossed out, thus signaling the end of their shopping spree. Altogether, Brian paid a total of $235 for items that would probably be used just once. The cashier carefully took the check from Brian's grasp and began to meticulously bag the items when suddenly the Brian heard a noise out of the ordinary. A milk bottle cracked open as the milk residues seeped out of the plastic bag to drown the teenybopper magazines. Immediately, the cashier apologized for her careless mistake. She retrieved the check from inside her drawer and offered to tear it into pieces, suggesting that she would pay for Brian's items. On any ordinary day, Brian would immediately snap at the high school-aged girl, sending the girl crying out of the store after he threatened to shut down the market if she was not fired, but today was not an ordinary day. Today was the first of many days that he would be spending with Justin.
"It's okay. I know it was just an accident." Brian said. "Don't worry about it. I can just get a new one, right?"
"Of course, of course." The cashier quickly said, breathing a sigh of relief.
"Do you need some help with that, sir?" a young handsome employee approached Brian and asked him.
Brian smiled at the beautiful face before him and of course, said, "Yes."
The phone had been ringing continuously off the hook, yet JC seemed to not notice. He didn't care to pick up the phone. After a few minutes of nonstop ringing, JC got out of bed and headed into the bathroom, slamming the door behind him. He quickly stripped away all his clothing and wasted no time in getting a shower. As the water hit his bare body, JC couldn't help, but pound his head against the shower glass doors. Justin had only been gone for a day and JC was already missing his angelic face. Every time he closed his eyes, he would see Justin's heart-warming smile. Every time he closed his eyes to sleep, he would dream of Justin. What he had thought was the right choice for the two of them was making JC completely miserable. He was lost without Justin just as Justin had always said he'd be lost without him. He grabbed his towel and walked out of the bathroom. Immediately, he was greeted by the sounds of the phone ringing. JC, with his hands securing his towel tightly, ran toward the phone. He picked it up. But it was too late. Justin had abandoned all efforts in reaching JC.
"Who were you calling?" Brian asked, walking in with two bags in each hand. Kevin soon joined him inside their house with the remaining four bags.
"Um..." Justin didn't know what to say. Should he lie or should he tell Brian the truth? "I was calling Lance."
Justin waited for a moment for Brian to react. He did not know what to expect from Brian. He did not move an inch. His hand still gripping onto the phone. Brian dropped the bags on the floor in front of him and approached Justin.
"So, what did you guys talk about?" Brian asked, a wide grin plastered on his face.
"Nothing. I didn't get a hold of him." Justin answered truthfully.
"Very well. I am sure you'll have better luck next time." Brian said, picking up the bags and making his way up the stairs.
Kevin flashed a reassuring smile in Justin's direction before joining his cousin on the second floor. By the time he reached the second floor, Brian had disappeared out of sight. Kevin scanned the vicinity before him. He noticed the door of the linen closet slightly opened. Behind the doors, he found Brian.
"Brian." Kevin said, touching his cousin's shoulder to get his attention.
Brian brushed off Kevin and walked into his room down the hall. Kevin followed his cousin to the bathroom located in the back of the room. He opened the door to the bathroom and found Brian on the floor, placing rugs over the bathroom floor.
"Brian, you are aware Justin was lying, right?" Kevin smoothed out the rug on the floor.
"Of course, I was." Brian said, getting off the floor. "But what I am supposed to do? Slap him because he dared to lie to me? I don't understand why he feels he needs to lie to me. I won't deny him contact with JC. I'm not the kind of person that will make him cut ties from his friends."
"Brian." Kevin tried to comfort his cousin.
Brian had become more emotional as he spoke. He wiped away the tears with a new hand towel he just had bought from the market and hanged the rest of the towels on the rack. He walked away from Kevin toward the sink where he would rearrange the counter top to make room for Justin's toilettes when Justin surprised him with his presence.
"Brian, I'm sorry I lied to you earlier. I just can't help myself sometimes. JC has been a big part of my life for so long. I can't just..." Justin apologized, looking intensely in Brian's crystal baby blues, pleading for forgiveness. "Forgive me."
Brian moved in closer, taking Justin's hands in his. Brian rubbed Justin's hands, assuring him that he was not angered by him. Kevin seized his opportunity to slip out of the bathroom, leaving Brian alone with Justin. Justin glanced at Kevin as he walked out and then refocused his attention on Brian.
"Thank you." Justin whispered, leaning against the door.
"For?"
"For not getting angry at me earlier." Justin inched closer to Brian. "For understanding me." Still closer, he moved. "For loving me the way you do." Justin now leaned over Brian, laying his head on Brian's shoulder. His hands began to run along Brian's back and his lips found their way onto Brian's neck. Brian was slowly getting aroused by the mere breathing by Justin on his bare neck. He could feel himself hardening inside his pants. Suddenly, he felt as if his member jumped out of his pants. Justin had surprised him with a sweet and tender kiss on his lips. "Thank you." Justin said. Justin waited for a moment for Brian's expression to embrace his face. When he saw nothing, Justin slipped his hands in his pants pockets and proceeded to walk away. "I'm sorry." He whispered as he walked out of the bathroom, leaving Brian alone in his web of thoughts.
Brian walked past his reflection in the mirror and was disturbed by the tears in his eyes. How could someone so sweet and gentle as Justin Timberlake bring such pain to his heart? Every emotion he felt, he felt for Justin. He grabbed the hand towel that was hanging and ran it under the running water. He wiped away the tears in his eyes and tossed the towel in the bathtub. He walked out of his room and followed the exchange of words down to the first floor. Brian stopped at the foot of the stairs.
"Let go of me, Kevin!" Justin shrieked.
"No! You're not going anywhere at night by yourself. I can't be responsible for anything happening to you." Kevin responded, tightening his grip on Justin's wrist.
"Let go of him." Brian intervened, prying off Kevin's strong fingers. Justin immediately grabbed his wrist, massaging it gently. Tears in his eyes from the pain inflicted upon him by Kevin. "Justin, come here." Brian ushered the boy to sit beside him on the couch. Justin reluctantly joined Brian on the couch, leaving Kevin to pick up his luggage and return it upstairs.
"Yes, Brian." Justin said, sitting next to Brian.
Brian turned around to look into Justin's intense eyes and all his anger suddenly disappeared when Brian detected the sadness in his eyes. "Why do you have to be so damn irresistible?"
"Brian, I'm really sorry." Justin apologized, again.
"That's okay. You're forgiven." Brian said. "I just don't like it when you come sleeping in my arms at night and wake up the next morning, speed dialing across America to JC." A smile spread uncomfortably on Justin's face in response to Brian's wide grin.
"Thank you." Justin finally said.
"No, thank you." Brian said, bringing Justin's face closer to his.
"For what?"
"For this." Brian said, placing his lips on Justin's lips. Without hesitation, Justin opened his mouth, thus allowing Brian's tongue to invade his mouth.
