Tales of Sol 17 Natural Order
The Concert was a great after Nsync preformed their number Shania Twain came up and her voice was magical. When she preformed her last song which was 'From this Moment On' 98 Degree came up to the stage adding their talented voices to hers and it was truly a spectacle. They sent more then just their voices out into the stadium with each note there were several hitchhikers. Love, Joy, Happiness, Compassion, and most of Hope when they hit me I felt them as even more then I heard them sing and it is a rarity to not only hear the music but to really feel it.
Something else was happening to me the music had touched the spark that was Captain Planet and began to give it a charge. The energy flowed outward into my body infusing every cell with its essences. As the music played the energy grew stronger until it was able to form a globe onto my chest. Placing my hand onto my chest I felt it a little worried I pulled my shirt out to see what it was I had felt. It was glowing a bright golden aura and my worry turned to joy. The darkness I felt earlier was being pushed back and little by little I felt Cap's spark take over and giving me strength I never had before. I happen to put my hand onto Dave's shoulder and the energy went up my arm and into him. I saw him shutter then he turned to me with a very confused expression on his face as if he wasn't sure what he was feeling. That worry changed to concern when he looked at me with my hand over my chest. "I will tell you later," I said over the scream of the girls. He just looked at me seeing that he wasn't going to get any other information out of me turned back to the concert.
As I contemplated the feelings that I was getting from the performance I finally realized the danger it posed to the Dark Lord and his plans for the Mother.
I was still smiling when the last number was preformed I told Nick I would see them once they had a chance to settle down.
The whole time I let down my walls and enjoyed myself I could still feel the warmth of love and hope coming off their music.
As we were helping with the clean up Nick had come up to tell me that they would see me as soon as they got settled in. I agreed giving Nick a copy of the keys he'd need to get into my home. After they left Dave pulled me aside and out of the ears of the workers he demanded, "Mike what the hell happened in there?"
"Are, you talking about in the concert?" I asked
"Yes," Dave supplied
"Dave you felt the most powerful of all the elements that the Earth has ever produced," I told him
"What Fire?" Dave asked
"No, the elements of Earth work off each other, Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water all work to shape the Earth in some form or another no this element is far more powerful then that," I told him.
Dave pondered until I answered, "The power of Heart which encompasses all from life to extremely powerful emotions from love, and courage, to compassion and faith,"
"Most important of all is the power of Hope," I told Dave as he looked at me still trying to wrap his brain at the concept, "What you felt is what Jeff and all musicians produce when they sing," I spoke with resolve
"I know their music is wonderful but," Dave wondered off as he considered the possibility
"When their message of Hope hit me it found what was left of Captain Planet and gave him a boost," I said as I unbutton my shirt to reveal the globe now present. "Mike what in the world is that?" Dave demanded
"The beginning of Earth's champion this is the globe that once appeared on Captain Planet." I answered
"You really were given his Soul," Dave gasped
"Did you think I made it up?" I cocked my head
"Mike the story you told me was so unreal I still haven't processed all of it," Dave confessed
"Well in case you need further proof Cap is giving it too you," I smiled
"Which brings me to a realization that I need to tell you," I said
"What is it?" Dave asked
"There was a great darkness out there tonight," I told him
"You are telling me this now?" Dave asked
"I first felt it when Jeff and the guys came into the stadium it was strong enough to give my new senses a hard time," I said instead of answering the question Dave had asked.
"Any ideas?" Dave asked
"No and that is what worries me," I growled
"The reason I bring this up is because of that hope I felt," I told Dave
"I think our celebrities friends are in danger," I told him
"And the threat could be some one of great power themselves," I continued
"Who could it be?" Dave wondered
"There is one who has the power to give my senses trouble but until I know for sure I don't want to jump to the wrong conclusion," I told him
"Who?" Dave asked
"The one who set the trap that killed Captain Planet and the Planeteers," I sighed as that memory came forth
"Gaia had told me about how the big and bad would do anything to score a victory," I told him.
"Ok, so do you think he is here?" Dave asked
"I can't be certain but yes I do," I told him.
"What make you so sure that he maybe?" Dave asked
"First when I opened my senses to detect Jeff, and the others I felt a very powerful presents; so powerful that I was almost overloaded if not for my mind focusing exercises" I started
"You have any idea who he is?" Dave asked as he looked around himself as if he thought he was being watched
"No, I don't he's a trickster so he could be anyone," I told him not that I didn't like admitting to that.
We went back to work when the last of the trucks rolled out we made our way out the doors of the Veteran's and headed for my truck. We were almost there when I heard a glowing noise followed by a huge ping from the Mother.
"Dave get down!" I yelled as I was tackled from behind by a very strong being
"Ha, ha, ha an after show dinner," the Creature laughed as he tried to hold me down.
I rolled us until I could get my feet on the side walk and pushed on them getting us off the ground and up right again then I pushed us back until we made contact with the car behind us. The impact made the vampire get off of me, and I was thrown forward and back on the pavement again "Not tonight my friend," I told him and got to my feet
I turn to see him his eyes were an evil yellow and his forehead was enlarged like he was hit there it confirmed what I already knew.
"Vampire," I growled
The Vampire laughed as I put myself between it and Dave behind me it charged us I brought my fist around catching it in the jaw sending it flying backwards right into another parked car.
It got up and let off a low but high pitch howl I picked up the sense of more vampires coming our way.
"This just got more interesting," I said
"No kidding," I heard Dave from behind me
I ran to my truck and grabbed my Fighting Pike, and then opened my glove compartment and reached for my D'k tahg hitting the release mechanism on my Pike it shot out to fullest extension.
I swung the Pike around just in time to catch a vampire in the chin and she went flying into a trash can then turning my attention back towards the rest of the vampires.
"How brave, a puny human wants to fight the brutish Vampires," The Lead Vampire cackled
"I am no mere human and you will soon find out," I told them
They charge me I swung my Pike I got a ping from the Mother telling me to duck when I did a wooden stake came flying over my head striking a vampire dead on the heart.
I looked to see my old acquaintance Razeel the Vampire Slayer she got into the fight giving me the breathing room I needed "I think I need something with a bit more of a cutting edge," I noted as I put my Pike away and pull out my D'k tahg holding it in a fighting grip I readied myself for the next attack. When one charged at me I held my ground until the vampire was striking range then I fell on to my back and propped my feet up just in time for the male vampire to run right into them propelling him over me, using his momentum against him. At the same time my Klingon knife ran threw his neck effectively severing his head the vampire had turned to dust just as he landed face first on to the ground.
I rolled out of the way as another vampire who tried to catch me off guard. Using my current position to my advantage I kicked out and caught the vampire in the shin, causing it to fall on his back. Using the speed of the kick to get me back on my feet charge me again I meant to throw punch at him but instead my hand was encased in fire and when I hit him the vampire cried in pain them was incinerated looking down at my hand as if I had never seen them before.
The fire extinguished itself and my hand returned to normal the remaining vampires came at me.
I brought my D'k tahg around and slashing one vampire across the jaw and then brought it around and it stabbed in the stomach it cried out in pain I end its pain when I uppercut the vampire in the chin and sent him into a low hanging branch which staked the vampire's heart killing it instantly. Dave was holding his own against these demons as he punched a vampire in the stomach, his years of fighting were coming in handy tonight.
A vampire charged at me trying to take me down I brought my knife around and cutting across her chest she cried out and backed away then kicked her leg out and caught me in the stomach I let out"Oomph" as the air in my lungs were knocked and out making me drop my D'k tahg. She came at me again I dodged her attack managing to pick my knife back up bringing it around and cutting the vampire's right arm came off.
The vampire let out a cry in pain then charged me again this time I stuck my knife out and the female vampire end up running into the business end then the strangest thing happened my D'k tahg began glowing and cut through the vampire like a hot knife through butter. She dusted looking down at my D'k tahg then around noticing the sudden silence and was amazed to see that it was just me, Dave, and Razeel all that was left of the vampires was dust in the wind. Panting a bit not realizing how charged up my body was I was still shocked at the way the last vampire died
"Well I think we are going to have to find out what else you can do?" Dave said.
Looking back at my D'k tahg then back at Dave "I yes I guess we will,"
"How about you go home and get some rest we'll figure something out tomorrow," Dave Suggested
"Good idea," I replied we thanked Razeel and then left the stadium.
After dropping Dave off at his home I got home and went to my basement and began cleaning and sharpening my D'k tahg the night's events left me spellbound and I felt like I was on autopilot.
I went to bed shortly after putting my D'k tahg back in its place on my wall tomorrow I will have it on me again.
The night sleep had allow even more stability to my ever growing powers as my body became accustom to them. Dave called me the next morning had asked me to come to the Lair as soon as I could agreeing I left as soon as I could.
"What up Dave?" I asked as I entered the Lair.
"Mike, I like you to meet Professor Xavier he deals with gifted people," Dave introduced
I remember Xavier, and his companions helped me months ago why was Dave talking with him.
"I remember who he is, and I am not a mutant Dave I am something more," I told Dave
"Please explain?" Xavier asked
"About two or three nights ago I came upon a gang who were holding a mutant hostage. While they waited for the FOH to come for her, and get money for the capture," I started off
"While trying to rescue her, one those Metal Monstrosities arrived and not wanting to lose my personal helicopter I made it fly away," I continued
"One of the gang members got me from behind pinning me and the Sentinel ripped the front section off of the warehouse," I told my tale
Neither Dave nor Xavier interrupted me the entire time I looked down at my mentor and he was enthralled in my story.
"Now this part is still a bit hazy because I blacked out, but when I regained consciousness all that remained of the Sentinel was metal debris, and the gangs were out cold," I finished up
"Interesting but it doesn't rule out the possibility of you being a mutant," Professor Xavier pointed out
I closed my eyes getting ping from the Mother nothing big just telling me I could trust these people.
"I would have agreed with you except from what the dream told me I am something more and this after I felt the death of the Mother's Champion," I commented
"You felt the death?" Xavier asked
I turned to Dave "You thought I was really a mutant, and call Xavier for help?" I asked putting the pieces together surprising I wasn't angry.
"Mike when you told me about your dream I was unsure what to think then last night you were able to make your D'k tahg glow I had to be sure," Dave confirmed
"I am not mad Dave but the Mother is the reason I have these gifts," I told him
"I don't mean to intrude but how did you feel the death of this being?" Xavier asked
"Months ago while in my home preparing for some guest the Mother sent me a huge ping," I told Professor Xavier "I ran outside and knelt down putting my hand to the soil that I felt the death of my brother Captain Planet," I told Xavier
"Interesting and you said Mother who is that?" Xavier asked
"That the Earth Professor Mike has gotten in habit in calling the world the Mother, While I still have trouble wrapping my mind around the concept of the Earth being alive. Mike does believe she is," Dave informed
"And unbeknownst to me what remained of Captain Planet entered my body and the night of the rescue Gaia the Spirit of the Earth came to me and brought that spark out allowing me some access to those Powers," I answered
"Interesting I would like for you to come to New York so we can verify that you may or may not be a mutant," Xavier commented
"I would love to come but I don't see me leaving Philly anytime soon," I smiled trying to dodge in going to New York.
Seeing that at least for the time being that my mind was made up Xavier didn't press on "By the way there should have been a woman whom I saved from that fight who was suppose to find you did she?" I inquired Xavier shook his head in acknowledge "She did," "It was my pleasure," I told him he wished us a good day and broke contact I turned to Dave "Was there anything else we needed to do?" I asked
"Why don't you go to New York?" Dave asked
"Because my city needs me and I won't leave it," I said rather too quickly
"I see," Dave said starting to piece things together.
I turned around and headed for the Sea Dragon it been too long since I had done any work to it. I was busy cleaning my helicopter when Dave came into the maintenance bay.
"Mike I want to apologizes for calling the X-men and not believing you," Dave started off
"I am not mad you are my mentor, and were looking out for me like you always have," I said
"If what you say is true why haven't you confided with me why you have are so uptight?" Dave asked
"I have to be there is too much to be done now more then ever now that I am fighting this new war," I replied without any emotions what so ever.
"I can't let something as irrelevant as emotions get in the way," I snipped
"What about Jeff?" Dave asked
The thought of Jeff pushed his way through the wall I had erected around myself
"I had a talk with the guys they've told me what you are like around them one minute you are the most caring person willing to give the shirt off your back; the next you are as cold and as barren as the Arctic Circle," Dave informed me
"I have things that I have to figure out?" I started to say when the world around me changed
I soon found myself on a tropical island with a few huts here and there.
'Where the heck am I?' I though But it came to me from the information stored in my head but before I could answer myself I heard.
"Welcome to Hope Island Mike Pennock," A woman said to me
She was a beautiful woman on top of that she with her light chocolate shaded skin, her long black hair, and her dark brown eyes. Her simple long flowing purple gossamer similar to the ones the ancient Greeks and Romans used to wear. The color matched her skin tone which only added to her beauty she also had two scarfs one for each arm that manged to look even with her dress even thought they hung differently on her arms. I knew who she was even thought this is the first time I ever saw her. The person who walked toward me was Gaia and she is the Spirit of the Earth I was awe struck by her appearance for all her gentleness I saw how the Planeteers came to view her as a mother figure.
"Why thank you," She smiled
"You could hear what I was thinking?" I asked
"Yes I can," She announced
"By the Mother's Hand! What am I doing here?" I gasped putting my head down I felt so unworthy just by being in her presence.
"You are still unsure aren't you?" she asked putting a hand under my chin and bringing my gazes back to her. I saw the compassion in her eyes and couldn't help but feel even more unworthy thanks to my own meekness.
"Yes, Gaia, I am why me of all people surely there were people more worthy of these powers." I said
"You have something that no one has." She Smiled
"What? Depression because it still there, I am fighting it but it still there." I stated
"No, but you must soon get a hold on your depression because it will affect your powers." She said
"What then? Because I am gay if that is it, because I am sure there are more worthy homosexuals out there who a more suited for this?" I asked gestured toward Hope Island I felt as if I was polluting just by being here.
"It's not that either, and as I said before that has no bearing either you are going to find that the Earth has produced many gay heroes as this fight went on." She smiled
"But Gaia, I am just a nobody why on Earth, would you or the Earth choose me?" I asked
"You are not a nobody, Mike Pennock and the Earth choose you because it could be no one else," Gaia told me then her lovely expression took a more serious one
"I brought you here because I wanted to tell you what is going on and what you need to do," Gaia informed me
"What do you mean what I need to do?" I asked
"Mike the task at hand isn't easy and will try you soul," Gaia started to explain
"I know the dream I received was very intense," I nodded
"That dream was only to inform you what is coming on, this world needs its Champion, and the world is going to needs it now," Gaia insisted
"But, why me?" I demanded
Gaia just let me continue for a moment I went on "Why am I that person?" I asked her
"What if I don't want that kind of responsibility?" I asked
"Hell I didn't ask for this all I wanted was to protect my city," I informed her
"I didn't plan on having to defend the whole freaking world," I remarked I was amazed by Gaia's patience as she let me rant and rave like a five year old
"You were chosen because of your willingness to help those who can't help themselves," Gaia replied as she put her hand on my shoulder and in many ways she was giving me the motherly love that I was deprived of.
"You were chosen because of how much you care about the Earth," Gaia smiled
"You were chosen because of who you are," Gaia said softly
"What is that, a depressed, and damaged homosexual?" I snorted
"No because you are the Nexus," Gaia answered
"The Nexus?" The words came out of my mouth but with uneasiness in them
"Yes the Nexus you have already proven yourself just by the people you have around you," Gaia confirmed
I didn't believe her I didn't want to believe.
"You will see," Gaia smiled
Getting back on topic "Mike as you have seen there is more to Earth then man and Nature," Gaia started
"Yes I never believed in vampires," I confessed
"Well they are part of the whole," Gaia stated
"For several millenniums I helped to keep the darkness at bay but it has had it toll," She told me
"I've seen many heroic people died, but our job is to keep the balance," Gaia told me
"But Gaia my powers are starting manifest aren't they enough?" I asked
"Not with Captain Planet, and the Planeteers gone; there is a gap in our defense against the forces of evil," Gaia stated
"But I am doing the best that I can," I said
"I know you are your problem is your self-esteem, and the wall you have built around yourself," Gaia pointed out
"Those walls must come down if you are going to defeat the Dark Lord and his minions," Gaia stated
"But emotions are irrelevant," I said
"No they are not you felt the power you friends give off when they sing, It's that lack of emotions that is preventing you from receiving the full powers you need," Gaia said
"And the first step is to forgive yourself for the events you had no control over," Gaia said
A flash crossed my mind the next thing I saw was myself on-board the U.S.S. Carol Vinson watching the World Trade Centers came crashing down and the tears that came with them.
"Don't do this to me!" I pleaded
"You must understand that you are not responsible for these events," Gaia said
"I am if I hadn't left the country she wouldn't have been attacked!" I cried
We were back on Hope Island as tears flowed down my cheeks myself balled up on the sand as I cried out.
Gaia knelt down "Oh Mike it going to take time for you get past this but you will. Know this you have a lot of people who love you the Power is Yours," Gaia comfort.
And in a blur I left Hope Island and when I looked around myself I found that I was once again back in the Lair with Dave staring back at me.
"What the Hell just happened?" Dave demanded
"I was with the Spirit of the Earth herself," I informed him
"Really," Dave smiled
"Yeah she pretty much told me I need to stop being an idiot, and let people in," I smiled
"Well now that the Spirit of the Earth is telling you this I assumed you will be taking her advice?" I could see the plead in Dave's eyes
"We'll have to see I am not ready to reveal this just yet," I spoke.
"I know I had to hope," Dave sighed
"I'm sorry Dave but I am just no ready," I commented
"Hey when you are ready I will be here for you Mike," Dave smiled
"Thanks," I smiled back
"You know Mike while we are on the subject of holding things in with these new powers of yours I am worried about that temper of yours," Dave started
"I know what you are talking about I am now a very powerful being it wouldn't take much for me to go psycho if I am not careful," I replied
"So what are we going to do about it?" Dave asked
"Well for the time being I am continuing my mind focusing exercises," I stated
"Well that good, and all but bottling up your feelings will only make them that more the danger when you burst," Dave pointed out.
"We'll deal with that when the time comes," I said
"It's getting late," Dave, pointed out
"Yup, it is time to go on patrol," I said heading for the changing room.
"So what do you guys say we get something to eat?" Nick asked as 98 Degrees sat around the hotel
"Yeah I have a craving for some ribs," Drew said
"Ok we'll head out," Jeff smiled
Drew had a limo come to Hotel, and they left for the nearest restaurant it was very nice it had a very welcoming atmosphere.
They had just placed their orders; when the door exploded, and in came a very strange group of people five of them. They had bumps on their heads. One of them walked up to the steward and bit him, "Listen up no move or scream and no one will get hurt," The leader demanded
"Dammit Drew this is the last time we let you pick a place to eat!" Justin growled
A window blew out, and a cloaked man appeared his face was covered by a hood, and he carried something that looked like a quarterstaff.
"Isn't that the Guardian Angel?" Justin asked
"Not another masked freak!" One of the Demons complained
"I'm the freak? I don't feed off of blood," Guardian Angel commented
With a growl the horde of Vampires charged the Guardian Angel
"Why do you guys always insist on doing things the hard way?" Guardian Angel asked as he jabbed his quarterstaff into the gut of a vampire then brought it around catching another jaw; then backhanding a vampire in the face sending it flying out the door.
98 Degrees watched as the Guardian Angel battle the demons of the night.
"He is so awesome," Drew commented
The male vampire dodged a swing from Guardian's Pike, and punched him in the stomach then punched him in the face sending him flying out the restaurant's main door the rest turned their attentions back on the restaurant's patrons one made a run for a woman when shards of glass, and wood from the broken door struck her in the back. One of the wooden spikes managed to lodge itself in the vampire's heart and she dusted. Another vampire tried to take on one of the waiters when it was struck from behind he was turned to ice and the Guardian Angel struck the frozen demon with his Pike and he shattered to pieces.
The Guardian Angel came back in a vampire came at him jumping on his back only to burst into flames standing up "Just what I needed a thorn in my side," Guardian Angels laughed while his body had wooden thorns over it.
The last two vampires ran out the window of the restaurant with Guardian Angel hot on their tails.
"I think it is about time we left what do you guys think?" Drew asked
"I think it was safer at the hotel if you ask me," Justin confirmed
"Yeah lets get out of here," Nick said.
