This story is about a new breed of super hero, so below is a list of the characters in the story that will be in it frequently from chapter one on. I might add new characters later, but those will just appear in the story and be talked about then. You should probably read the descriptions of the characters though, as some things like their names won't be commented on. So you should know the names before you read the story.
Hope you enjoy.
Superboy - Cody Kent - He's the child of Superman and Lois Lane, so he is not entirely invincible to some weapons. He has the ability to fly and a powerful physique, while also maintaining the ability to see through things, but along with his father's weakness to kryptonite he can also feel pain. At age 18 his powers are fully harnessed. His father has been dead since he was 3, after being defeated by Lex Luther and a large batch of kryptonite. His mother, Lois Lane is still alive and still works as a reporter, although now in her early fifties. After Superman's death she came clean about her son, and his identity is not a mystery.
Pyro - Jason - With the ability to control fire at age 17 Jason is still learning to control his emotions. When extremely angry or sad his powers are useless to the league because he can not control them. Pyro turned up at Lois's office at age 15 asking for help, without any known background he is more of a loose cannon then a permanent friend.
Nightwing - Greg Simons is the last of the Dynamic Duo. And he's not even one of the original. After Bruce Wayne was killed by the Joker, and after Dick Grayson suffered a near death experience some years ago he passed on the legacy to Greg who was only 14 at the time. Now 18 he's fully trained in the skills of his predecessors, and has one key ability that none of them had...he isn't a loner.
Tiger - Myra Webster was one of the first humans to go through with gene splicing. She thought it would be the perfect way to get an edge on the other kids at her school. When things went wrong and she was left a nimble cat-like human with the fur and stripes to match she could look no where else but the Justice League.
Jasmine - Flight and power give this alien from Pluto an upper hand in most battles. Her weakness is the fact that she has come from such a cold planet, and even freezing cold is too hot for her on Earth. Her skin is constantly purple, hence the name given to her. Because of her condition she must wear a body suit, also purple to keep her cold, with a crystal like device keeping her cold.
Adam Jones - Adam has only one power, the ability to read minds. The power makes him valuable as a resource to find people and enemies. However when confronted by other powerful minds he does not control the power as strongly as he does usually. His most obvious weakness is his annoyance that he can not help in battle. At 17 he is the most vulnerable of the heroes, another problem he hates to confront.
Lois Lane - She's still reporting and stirring up information, but she no longer gains access as freely because of her affiliation with the Justice League. After Superman's death she admitted his real name, and the identity of their baby. Along with the Green Lantern she leads up the League, making sure that the teenagers keep control in situations where their first reaction is to go in full force without plan.
Green Lantern - The only superhero of the original Super League still alive he is a figure head to the group, but also a mysterious figure. His knowledge and skills have been key to teach the new heroes lessons in training and combat, but he is secretive about certain aspects among the League. Including the death of Hawkgirl which to date still remains unsolved.
The Space Station - Remaniscent of the Super League of past, the Space Station has been updated to modern times. With living quarters for the heroes and a computer system with the ability to track all of Earth and the surrounding planets with intelligent life. Two space pods are always available to the league, a minor change made by Green Lanter, after he insisted that one was not enough. Other than that he chose to make little change to the layout, making it all too familiar to him, as the other's adjusted to it.
2020 - 17 years have passed since the death of Hawkgirl, and the other members of the League have been dead longer. Earth still remains in a delicate balance between justice and injustice, with many of the League's enemies having passed on as well. Still alive and well Green Lantern must compete with Lex Luther, the last surviving of the Justice League's foes. Much has changed in the 17 years, including a new international goverment brought about by the end of the orginal League of Justice.
Lex Luthor - Stuck in prison for his crimes against humanity and the death of both Superman and Aquaman at age 58 his health has dwindled quickly. His own interaction with kryptonite have left him bound to a wheelchair and protective vest. He's allies are dead and his money is held up by the world goverment, a true sign that crime does not pay.
Teenage Justice League
"Get up!" Adam made no motion to get out of bed, but Cody rolled out and stood up slowly, annoyed that Green Lantern would wake him up so rudely. He rubbed his hand across his chest, and took a second to yawn and adjust his eyes. Green Lanterns face was not a happy image to focus on, and Cody frowned, knowing that for some reason he was in trouble. "Follow me, I'll deal with him later."
Cody followed him out the door of his bedroom and down the hall. When they made their way to the meeting room and the door shut he had already realized that he had done nothing wrong. He knew that he had cleaned up after himself when he got a snack early in the night. He knew that he had recharged the space pods before bed, and he knew that Jasmine was sitting the control seat when he went to bed. That was the rule, never leave your post before someone else is there. He had done nothing wrong to his knowledge.
Green Lantern pulled out a seat and Cody sat down. Silence was awkward in the situation as Green Lantern looked him up down and then stopped on his face. His eyes held Cody's eyes to him and he frowned.
"How many bedrooms exist on this station?"
Cody thought the question was stupid, they both knew that their were 8, one for every person who slept there. That had nothing to do with his responsibilities, but he knew an answer was necessary. "Eight"
"So why do I constantly see only seven in use? I have witnessed relationships cause the team a harsh blow, and when you are sleeping in the same bed as someone, suddenly the urge to get up and respond to an alert is less of a reality. I want Adam to stop sleeping in your room, as of today."
Cody wanted to responded, wanted to say something to change Green Lantern's mind, but he had learned that wasn't easy. Everything Green Lantern talked about was so hard to fight against. Cody had no idea what he was talking about when he spoke of watching relationships cause problems, and he knew that answers weren't going to come from Green Lantern. But his mother never wanted to speak about the heroes she had stood beside.
He frowned and pushed out his chair. Anger was slowly creeping into his mind, he didn't want Adam sleeping in his own room. He liked them sleeping together, and he didn't see any need to stop, because neither of their alertness had dwindled since they became a couple. Six months of dating hadn't yielded any mistakes or sloth from either of them.
He walked back to his bedroom slowly and when the doors opened he slid in silently. Adam was sleeping, he probably hadn't even woken up from Green Lantern's words. It seemed that the only thing that could wake Adam up was his natural alarm clock or the signal that something was happening some where. He looked at his boyfriend and suddenly his anger began to dwindle. He would figure something out to make it work.
In the mean while he could watch Adam sleep and be content. His shaggy blond hair tossled and messy from only a few hours of sleep. And even though his eyes were shut, Cody could almost see the deep blue they possessed and he knew how they sparkled when he smiled or laughed. Not to mention how cute he was when he smiled, and in his sleeping form Cody couldn't think of a thing wrong with him. But then again, neither could he when he was awake. Of course, it was much easier to stare at him when he was asleep.
Otherwise he would probably blush and turn away. But asleep Cody could trace up and down his 5 foot 8 inch frame and run his hand over Adam's cheek without causing any bit of a stir.
He smiled as Adam stirred, it was the normal routine in the morning, for Adam to slowly wake up.
A tired looking face peeked up at Cody and tried to smile. It wasn't very affective, but through half shut eyes he could still make out his boyfriend. Cody was remarkably handsome, a perfect image of his mother and father. Even in the morning with messy hair, it still looked perfect, and Adam knew with in the hour it would be spiked in the front...such a rich tone of black just like his father. And dark eyes that could pierce through you, Adam wondered if the things he saw in Cody were the same things that Lois had seen in Clark.
But letting his mind wander would mean bad things, as sometimes he lost control when it wandered. And the last thing he wanted to do was delve into Lois's mind to find out if his assumption was right, he hated to burge into the memories of his friends.
Instead he focused back on Cody, and it wasn't hard to do so. Looking at a chiseled figure, standing 6 feet tall with a six pack of steel isn't hard at all. And clad in only a pair of boxer briefs things only looked better.
"How'd you sleep?" Adam looked over at the clock beside Cody's bed and gave him a smirk. It read 6:15 and that meant that by sleep, Cody truly meant the four hours they had slept because until 2 they were still outside the station trying to fix the satelite connection to Proxima Centari.
"Who's got first shift?" He asked as he slid the covers off his body, and reached around for his shirt.
"You took your clothes off in your room last night, you came over here in just your boxers. And I think Nightwing has first shift." Adam smiled at him, liking the fact that his boyfriend knew what he was thinking without actually thinking it. That was something that he couldn't rely on. When he thought he was doing it he would realize that he was actually subconciously searching the person's mind.
"So we have a chance to get some more sleep?" Adam winked and patted the side of the bed.
"How about we talk, we only have fourty minutes or so until we have do our morning runs, plus their's something I have to tell you."
"Fine, but I think sleeping would be more fun." Adam replied as he sat up and rubbed his eyes.
"Green Lantern woke me up this morning, and he told me that we can't sleep in the same bedroom any more. He said we would be jeopardizing our speed to get ready for an alert, and that it only causes more harm than good." Cody could quickly sense how upset Adam now was. He sat down beside him and wrapped his arm around his boyfriend. "I don't agree with it, but I think we should do what he asks, at least until I talk to my mom and see if she can convince him otherwise."
"Fine." Adam replied standing up and walking out of the room. Cody knew where he was going, and he wasn't going to follow. Instead he grabbed his suit and pulled it on. His mom had made it for him, a skill she picked up from his father's mother. It was a good fit, a black and red copy of his father's. She had fittingly chosen black to memorialize Superman, and the red was still used to match it.
Meanwhile Adam was already at his destination. When he was angry he always ended up information room. It was more of a tube, thin and reaching from the bottom of the station to the top, with only one door to enter and exit. It's small diameter could hold only one thing, a small orb, with the ability to transmit information from the past on anything in question.
Adam had taken a liking to it when he wanted to find out the past of the former Justice League. The only files he couldn't retrieve were Green Lanterns, and he assumed that was because he was still alive, and also Hawkgirl's, but he knew that was because no one knew how she had died. At least, no record was kept if anyone did know.
In moods like the one he was in now he would access files on the enemies of the League and read about their weakness and how they had been defeated. But most frequently he chose to learn about Lex Luthor. So as the file scanned into his mind he was rushed with images of Lex's prison files and his court cases. Adam knew so much about Lex that it annoyed him at some points. He wondered how others had fallen to him, because in his head he could easily picture defeating the man.
As the file came to a conclusion he wished for nothing more but the death of Lex, but international law banned the death penalty. His emotions were getting better of him though, and soon his mind had wandered into Lex's mind, and he began to sift through useless information before he came to the spot he wanted to see. It was in his subconcious, but it was a spot Adam searched for whenever he entered the evil mind. It was the events of the day Lex had killed Superman, a perfect replay of them, Adam only chose to watch it so he could learn more about Superman and his weaknesses.
Even the man of steel was not immortal, and besides his weakness to kryptonite it was evident that he was an eternal family man. Lois and Cody were present at his death, they watched him die because he shielded them, and Adam was one of the few to know the secret. Green Lantern and Lois chose not to tell Cody, and Adam had found out only through aimless mind wandering.
Adam zoned out of Lex's mind and back into his own, he had cooled off enough to go up on deck and help out. Not to mention he was a little cold, still being in his boxers and all.
He made his way up the station and then down the hallway. He passed the control room and smiled at Nightwing, who just laughed at his appearance. As he made his way into the his room he grabbed a pair of jeans and pulled them on. At least he was luckier then the rest of the heroes in some way. Because he never got a chance to go out and really be involved in missions and plans he could still wear normals clothes. But he did like the way their outfits fitted the others.
Grabbing a button up shirt he pulled it on and walked out towards the control room. He finished buttoning it as he sat down beside Nightwing and switched on the power lock to the station.
"What are you doing?"
"Calm down Greg, Cody's down their, I'm just opening their door for him to head down." Adam replied.
"Sorry, just didn't know what you were doing. I guess I'm a little tired, not really thinking things through." Greg rubbed his eyes. Adam laughed, for some reason he was already wide awake, but he guessed that probably had something to do with his fight with Cody and his mind searching in the information room.
"Adam can I speak to you?" He turned to see Green Lantern standing at the entrance to the room with a stern look on his face. But Adam already knew what this would be about, and he wasn't really thrilled with the talk that was too come. Nightwing gave him a sympathetic look as he left the room. And once again Green Lantern was leading someone into the meeting room.
Adam took a seat before Green Lantern even pulled one out, and it was obvious that he was angry. He waited anxiously for Green Lantern to say, because he had already started to think of how he would respond to the lecture, and what he was going to say to counter all of his elder's comments.
"I know Cody told you about our talk. I know you don't agree, and I know you don't like it." Green Lantern began differently than he had with Cody, he stopped to think for a second, making sure not to take his eyes off of Adam, making sure to read the young man's features and try to guess what he was thinking. "It's dangerous, you two falling for each other I mean. Relationships don't work within the League, I don't want to see one of you get hurt."
"No one is going to get hurt..."
Adam was cut off by a stern glare from Green Lantern, it was a mental message that he was not finished; he hated to be interrupted when he spoke.
"You could read my mind whenever you wanted, and I know that. I trust that you don't, but I know you want to know more about me, you want to know about us all, and it annoys you that my file is not available to you unless you tap my mind. But I also trust that you believe me when I give advice, and from experience, I am telling you that your relationship will not work."
Adam sat silent for a second, because he wasn't sure if Green Lantern was finished. He thought for a moment, but everything he wanted to say wasn't relevant any more, because their was no arguement against the unknown.
"What kind of experience are you speaking from?" The question was timid, he knew how easy it would be to upset Green Lantern, but their was no sign of anger on his face, so he softly sighed in content that their was no annoyance caused by it. But he still waited for an answer.
"I dated another member of the league." Green Lantern's reply was heartfelt and powerful, with just a simple sentence. Adam wanted to ask another question, who, what had happened, but he knew that Green Lantern wouldn't answer it. Instead he watched the older man walk out of the room, leaving him with so many questions he could not find answers for.
He stood from his seat and exited the room, Green Lantern was already out of sight. He chose to take the hall towards Lois's room, perhaps his boyfriend's mother would be able to tell him something about it. If she was willing to.
"Can I come in?" Lois turned from her desk and waved him in, she pushed aside the article she was working on and smiled. "Could I ask you something...about Green Lantern?"
"Sure, but I may not know the answer, their's so many things he won't even tell me." She replied with a smile.
"Who did he date?"
Lois looked at him, she wanted to answer the question, but she feared telling him would anger Green Lantern. But on the other hand she knew Adam would eventually find out. If he let his mind wander and it was on his mind he would end up finding out some how or another. So coming from her mouth might be better than coming from her mind.
"He dated Hawkgirl, for about a year before her death." Lois replied, hitting the button on the wall to shut her door. Adam turned in confusion, but sensed that she wished to confide something in him. "You can't tell anyone, Green Lantern is not a person who chooses to let people in on his secrets. He took her death very hard, he doesn't even like to talk about her anymore. It's been so long."
Adam put his arm on her shoulder and squeezed it gently. She smiled up at him, trying to fight back the tears in her eyes. "She was the last to die, but it was already over by then. I was so busy raising Cody, and Hawkgirl and Green Lantern were the only ones left, it wasn't much of a Justice League. We both took it so hard, it was like we both knew it was the end, he couldn't do it by himself, and I couldn't be much of a help."
Letting a tear fall down her cheek she choked back a sob and forced another smile. "It was the end of a legacy, it was like Lex had won, and then we caught him, we tricked him, with the help of Dick Grayson, but it wasn't special. Dick disappeared again after that, and then we found you all. We've been pushing you all and deep down we don't have anything left to push ourselves."
"You've been so strong, you raised Cody and helped us grow. You need to just let your thoughts out, it would help you both so much. You both need to rely on each other for support, you went through it all together." Adam replied, pulling her into a hug.
The hug lasted briefly, Lois poked up her head and dried her tears with her sleeve. She stood up from her bed and walked over to her desk. "Thank you Adam, please, don't tell anyone about this. I know you understand now."
Adam smiled and walked out of the room, he wanted to know more, but he knew it wasn't his place. Lois had told him things that she had never told anyone else, told him things that Green Lantern didn't want anyone to know. He was happy enough to be a confidant, and he wasn't going to jeopardize that by asking too many questions, or telling anyone what he had learned.
Back upstairs Tiger and Pyro were suiting up to head out in one of the space pods. They were supposed to head to Proxima Centari to make sure the connection on that end was working right. Neither of them were going to complain, because if they got it down quick enough they knew they would be able to relax for the rest of the day.
Pyro grabbed his gloves and pulled them on. His emotions still got the better of him, and Green Lantern insisted that he wear gloves to cover his hands so he wouldn't spark off fires if his temper flared. That was one thing on it's own, but flares of fire accompanying that would make the situation even worse.
Tiger on the other hand just grabbed the tools and stepped into the space pod. She needed no suit, her fur served well for that.
Tiger shut the door when Pyro got in and turned on the pod. Pyro hit the power lock button and waited for Nightwing to push the main control. As the air vaccum sucked them out into space they remained silent. Tiger had learned that talking to Pyro wasn't easy. Most of the time, even compliments turned into arguements, so she usually chose to be silent and get the work done as quick as possible with him. It gave her a chance to remember that silence is a good virtue to have.
And after all, Proxima Centari only took about twenty minutes to reach with the space pod, so it wasn't like silence would be long and tedious. Because once they landed they would meet up with a crew from the planet and check the controls. They both knew that it would probably be secure there, after all, they had just finished the main hookup on their station early in the morning.
Jasmine rolled out of bed and yawned. She was feeling a little warm, even though her suit had been on for the whole night, a requirement for her to survive. She looked into the mirror and frowned. The suit wasn't horribly ugly, but she preferred her natural look than the dark purple body suit. Not to mention she enjoyed to feel natural air flow through the gills on his neck, and to run her hand over her smooth head, any feeling of her hands on her head were few and far between.
She pushed her door button and made her way into the control room, the second one to take a seat next to Nightwing. She scanned over the screen he was monitoring, and smiled. He was doing routine checks of all the images on planets, and at the moment he was focusing on Pluto, her home planet.
She could remember the landscape so vividly, and wondered why her friends complained of the cold temperature when they would visit it. She laughed, she could picture the first time Pyro landed on Pluto. She remembered his expression as his flames ceased to work. Green Lantern had to fly him around with his green power ring, the green glow was able to keep him a little bit warmer.
She watched as the screen faded out and back to the surrounding cameras that monitored the space station. Nightwing smiled at her and stood up. "Do you mind watching the controls, I'm gonna go get a bite to eat."
"Sure, I'm not doing anything else." She nodded her head.
"Great, thanks, oh and watch for Cody to come back, he's been down there a while, so he should be heading back up soon." Nightwing walked out of the room leaving her to work the controls. She waited until he was out the door and anxiously hit the button for her home planet's camera.
She missed it greatly, but knew that her purpose was better served with the League. That wasn't to say that she didn't wish to go back to being normal. On her own planet she was normal, but here she was powerful and could fly, she guessed that was because she didn't have so much ice holding her down. Green Lantern had wanted to find out, but she did not want to go through with tests to find out for sure. She liked knowing that it was special, and finding out the reason wouldn't make it special to her.
She was so caught up in thinking about her planet that she did not even notice the blinking light that Cody was transmitting to her to let him in the station.
Cody frowned and wondered who was manning the controls and not paying attention. In frustration he flew around the station and up towards the control room. He tapped lightly on the glass viewing screen and could see Jasmine jump in surprise. Realizing that he had been waiting she blushed and hit the button, Cody rushed around the sation and flew in through the open door. He made sure she remembered to shut it and then made his way up the station. He walked by her with a smile, not really that upset that she had not opened the door for him.
He was more intent on finding Adam and talking to him about their situation. He was going to get this worked out, because by night fall he wanted to be sleeping in the same bed as his boyfriend.
Okay, so how did you like it? Let me know by e-mailing me at liberateme02@yahoo.com I would love to hear from you if you liked it or not. I could always some suggestions, and any ideas that you have are welcome too. I love to get feedback and information from the readers.
Hope you liked it, and their will be some more action between Adam and Cody in the next few chapters, I just have to work my way into that, after I get the characters set up a little better.
Thanks, and once again I hope you enjoyed.
