I was thoroughly pissed, but what teenager wouldn't after having found out that you were going to have to move halfway across the country before your summer year of high school. It was a hell of a move too. From Oak Ridge, Tennessee all the way to Los Alamos, New Mexico. Dad had gotten promoted, now he was going to head some new research group. Mom and Dad had been back and forth all year getting us ready to move. I on the other hand had pretty much stuck my head in the sand and continued with football practice. We were running plays under the blazing June sun of Tennessee. I had just blown through the offensive line and clobbered our star quarterback, Jonathan Miles. He stuck his tongue out, the way our guards met I could just reach it with the tip of it with my own. Yes I know, a little risky, but after I found out that I was moving we decided that we didn't care who found out about us. I jumped up, grabbed him by the hand and hauled him up.
"Shit Horatio! Do you have to be so fuckin' rough?"
"Sure do babe. How else am I gonna teach these jokers to protect you?" I was about to call everyone back to the line when the coach blew the whistle.
"All right Williams you've punished the offense enough for one day. Pack it in and hit the showers. Williams I need to talk to you before you head home."
"Sure thing coach." I said pulling my jersey and pads off. We held back as the rest of the team rushed off to the field house I liked to be one of the last to shower. I felt Jonathan wrap his arm around my waist I turned my head to him and he stole a kiss. "I'm gonna miss your babe. How the hell am I gonna get through a senior year without you."
"It'll be okay. Your hot shit, you'll do just fine."
"Hope so." I said throwing my arm around his neck. "So have you thought about what you want to do for the weekend of the fourth?"
"No, just as long as it's with you."
"I'm not expecting much of a birthday party. Mom and dad must have forgotten about it." Throwing my gear in my locker, I finished stripping, and headed to the showers. I was happy for my dad, really I was, but this move was taking me from all that I knew and loved. We hadn't talked about it much. Guess I need to let them know how upset I was. I had finished but was just standing alone in the shower room, under the water letting it wash over me. Suddenly a hand started to caress my ass, fingers sliding down my crack. I knew who it was and I smiled bracing my hands against the tile as he started to probe into me.
"I think I figured out what to give you for your birthday."
"Is it bigger than the finger you have up my ass?"
"Oh, yeah baby."
"That just may be the best present I get." I smiled. In never failed, every time I was down Jon was there trying to put a smile back on my face. I tuned and took him in my arms and we walked out to the lockers. God I love my man. We dried off and dressed. "I have to go see the coach. See you at the car?"
"Sure."
I came to the coach's office and knocked on the open door. "You wanted to see me coach?"
"Yeah Horatio, shut the door and set down. This came for you today, it's from the coach at your new school."
"This is a play book."
"Well, you hit that one on the head Williams."
"Coach. I was sort of thinking about getting out of football."
"Are you nuts Williams? You're one of the best dammed defensive linemen I've ever seen. Hell, you've ploughed through almost every offensive line you faced last season. Setting the state, high school, sack record for a single season wasn't too bad either. The State Sports Director even commented on your sportsmanship during the tournament. This time next year you'll be practicing at Knoxville. You know, I've talked to the recruiting coordinator there. He said he could probably think of a way to get you back to Tennessee, but you can't quit now."
"It'll be hard getting field time. Me being new and all."
"Not as hard as you might think. When I found out that you were moving I contacted the principal at your new school and he had the head football coach call me. He told me that his defense was in trouble and he would take all the help he could get."
"Gee thanks coach."
"Listen Horatio you're not just a gifted player. You haven't made less than a B+ since you started high school and your attitude is excellent. You have a bright future ahead of you, but you and Miles need to cool it in the locker room. Not everyone would be as understanding of your situation as I have been."
"Sorry. I guess we have been going at it a little hot and heavy hear lately, but with a bod like that I just can't help myself."
"Jesus Williams!" He said throwing his hat at me. "Get your horny ass out of here."
"Thanks coach." Well that's a load off my mind. I grabbed my bag and headed out to the parking lot. Maybe this move won't be too bad. I hadn't given any thought about there being pros to this. Something hard to do when you're focusing on the negative. Meeting new people and seeing new places couldn't kill me.
I was in a somewhat better mood when I got home until I remembered that Jonathan and his folks were going to Knoxville for the weekend to see his grandparents. Susan, Jon's mom had watched my five year old brothers' Robby and Ryan while I was at practice. Normally I would have gone with them but mom and dad were in New Mexico again. That meant I had to stay at home and watch the twins. It wasn't too bad. Both of the twins are into sports we did two on one soccer in the back yard Saturday morning fallowed by a trip to the local pizza arcade for supper. When we got home, they begged to play a video game. Mom was strict about them and violence so I pulled out my old Nintendo 64 and we played Mario Cart for two hours then we watched a movie while I called Jonathan.
Robby and Ryan both fell asleep while I was on the phone with Jonathan. Thank God for free mobile to mobile. We talked for hours about what the coach had told me, we were both planing to go to UT Knoxville. We made plans for next week. It would be my last here. We're leaving the week after the fourth and there wasn't any practice the week before or after so Jon and I were going to spend the whole week together or as much as we could with all the packing that was still left to do. We finally said goodnight and I settled down between the twins and fell asleep.
I was still sleeping when mom and dad got home. I thought I was hearing my name being called. Turning my head to the voice, I was about blinded by a flash. "Mom!"
"Sorry honey. I just couldn't help myself." My mother the photography nut. She was good but sometimes it could be a little much. "You three just look so cute." Looking to each side I found Robby was curled into my left shoulder and Ryan into my right. I had to smile knowing how much my brothers loved me and I them. There is nothing I wouldn't do for them. They even accepted me being gay I think. It's a little hard to tell if they actually understand what that means. They wouldn't have known at all if not for having walked in on Jonathan and me in a heavy grind and lip lock. It had to be one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. Worse than when both our parents walked in on us during a vacation in Gatlinburg two years ago.
"What are you doing home so early?"
"We flew in last night and your Father and I decided to stay over in Nashville. You need to get ready Horatio. Your Father wants to take you to lunch."
"It's that late?"
"Almost but, you have time to shower if you want." It sounded a little ominous. The last time we 'went out for lunch' was when we were in Gatlinburg. That hadn't turned out too bad, though for a moment I thought we were toast. I untangled myself from the boys and hopped in the shower.
Dad took me to his favorite Italian Deli for lunch, they serve an awesome muffuletta. He hadn't said much by the time I had finished the first half of my sandwich. I wiped my mouth and cleared my throat it was now or never. "I was thinking. Maybe this move might not be so bad after all."
"I'm glad you've changed your mind, but why?"
"Well it's not like I'm being exiled. I'll still be able to come back here for collage and I am happy for you Dad."
"Thank you son. I was worried about how you were handling this. Seems like your mother was wrong. She was sure you were upset about this."
"I am, sort of. What if Jonathan meets someone else while I'm gone? I... I don't know what I would do without him."
"You know, after we found out you were gay my first reaction surprised me. That's why I left the room. Jack and I went out and let your Mother and Susan handle it. It's hard to admit this to you but I was ashamed at first. When we got back home from the trip, I told your Mother that I was ashamed of you that I didn't want you in my house. In all the years we have been together Elaine and I have never had a fight like we had that night. Your Mother is a passionate woman but I had no ideal. She told me flat out that if that was the way I felt that I could get my ass out and never come back. Horatio it's taken me two years to figure out why I reacted that and work up the courage to tell you this. I just want to ask you to forgive me for being such an asshole."
I didn't know what to say. My eyes were tearing up and my chin was trembling. The first thing I could think to say was. "D..Daddy. Do you? Do you still love me?" I let out in a sob.
"The question Horatio is, do you still love me? This is part of the reason we stayed in Nashville last night. Your Mother and I have decided that if you want we will try to arrange something with the Miles' so that you can stay here with Jonathan."
"Dad." I said after thinking for a minute. "As much as I love Jonathan, and as much as I would love that, my place right now I think I should be with my family."
