That's Impossible, isn't it?
Chapter 15
The boys watched as troops poured into the area of the mountains where the shuttle had been shot down.
"Do you think those are the ones that tried to take us?" I asked, looking at Craig.
"Most likely, I am sure my Father will inform us of that, though," Craig replied.
Several hours passed, and the area had been cordoned off by the local authorities, and Levert had arrived back home. "Ok, Guys, nothing else to see; come in, its turning cold," Levert said, and we headed back inside.
"Did young Judak, catch up with you?" he asked,
Craig responded, "Yes, Father, we had a meal together, we are meeting up with him in a couple of days to show Bobby some of our interesting wildlife and plant life."
"Wandering Forest," I added. "Oh yes, those trees head north this time of year," Levert replied with a straight face, so I was now wondering if this was true.
"So, Judak?, what is his story?" I asked, "And how come you don't mate with the females from Bokite?" I asked, confused as to why they did not.
"Judak, is a friend of Craiglessty's; they met on Bokite when they were just babies, he was shocked when the Targ he was playing with turned back into a young boy. They have been friends ever since," Levert replied with a genuine smile.
"And as for breeding, well, Bobby, we do not have a proud past when it comes to Bokite," he started. "Sorry, what do you mean?" I asked.
"Well? we share similar traits with some of your Earth's past, Bobby," he started, "We invaded Bokite, some three hundred years ago, they had resources that we could use, so we went there, and took what we needed. They fought back...and lost, we almost wiped them all out. We wiped out over 90 percent of their entire population, and enslaved the remainder; we are not compatible with them, anyway. Their DNA has a subtle difference," he went on.
"And now, the Bokite?" I asked.
"Oh, we came to our senses about one hundred and fifty years ago; we ended the occupation of Bokite shortly thereafter. We helped build there society. A small step for our sins, so to speak. They are still a small community, numbering only in the low thousands. We have a lot to be sorry for.
"So, why did the Krile not attack them?" I asked,
"Bobby, we asked that, ourselves. We think that they tried, but some virus stopped them, but that is just a guess on our part," Levert replied.
"So, Borak was friends with both of you?" I asked, looking at Craig.
"No, not really, Judak hardly ever came to Lokite, and Borak never left this planet, so that is what confuses me about him joining up to go off world," Craig replied. "I think they met once, and that was here," he added.
"Why do you ask?" Craig asked, "No reason, it was just that he didn't seem that upset when he told you, that's all," I replied.
We sat and talked for a short while. Levert received a call, telling him that nobody survived the shuttle attack, and nobody had survived the crash.
"Let's go to bed," I said, standing up, waiting on Craig to join me. "See you in the morning, sir," I said to Levert, and watched as Craig hugged his father good night, and we went upstairs to bed.
"So, your stepmother and Brother come down tomorrow?" I said, and he nodded.
"I miss Nathan the little rugrat" he replied.
We washed up and climbed into bed. We embraced and just held each other until we both drifted off to sleep.
A couple of days passed since the incident on the outskirts of the mountains. All evidence was cleaned away, and Krile involvement had been confirmed by the discovery of their transmitter.
"So, this wandering wood," I said as we walked towards the city,
"Yeah, we will see it this afternoon," Craig replied.
"Can't wait," I replied, just as Judak approached us.
"Hello," Judak responded, as Craig embraced him.
"How's your father? I meant to ask the other day, sorry," Craig said.
"Oh you know him, a little drama and he is lost in the thrill of it," Judak replied,
"Oh, why is that?" I asked.
"He is on the senate council," he replied, and that, in itself, surprised me.
"Yes, his dad has been on the council since before Judak was born," Craig replied. And the boys walked on exploring this new world full of wonder for Bobby.
Back at the house with Levert..
As Levert had put Nathan down in his bed for a nap, a visitor appeared at the door.
Vzzed! Vzzed!
"Lorrenta, what is the meaning of this visit? You look well?" Levert said, looking at Craiglessty's birth mother.
"I heard about Borak, how has Craiglessty taken it?" she asked, with Levert, holding her hand as she sat down.
"He took it pretty hard," Levert replied.
"Losing a brother would be hard," she added.
"I haven't told him that," Levert replied. "We were leaving for Earth when I found out, and I didn't want to complicate things, so I chose not to tell him until we got back, but he was killed," Levert added.
"Oh I didn't know you hadn't told him. Borak knew, as did his brother," she went on.
"Brother?" Levert asked, "Yes, sure, you knew, Borak was one of twins, Lacka, his twin," she replied, "No I was not aware he had a brother, Tallat only raised one child," he informed her, "Lacka was raised by another family," she told him, "Oh, wow, and does he know of Borak being killed?" he asked her, "I don't think so, his family died in an accident and he has not been seen for over a year," she replied.
Back with the boys heading into the country side..
"Wow! They ARE moving. They are really moving," I said, as I watched as they moved in unison, thousands of trees moving along the ground. "Craig, that is an amazing sight," I added, as the trees stopped and rooted themselves into the ground.
We headed further into the country and spotted several things that amazed me, a monkey type creature that had feathers and a snake with a head at either end, Birds that swam in the river, sort of like a penguin, but this one flew when it left the water.
"Just a little further, and we will take a break," said Judak.
And we travelled on a bit further and came to a stream, we sat down on some blankets that we had packed and soon we began to eat. The food was fantastic. It looked so simple, but the flavours were (sorry for this pun, but), out of this world.
All of a sudden we heard a noise coming from the wandering forest, sounds of talking and shouting. We lay flat on the ground so as not to attract attention. "I will go check it out," Judak said before changing into a Targ, he walked low to the ground and entered the trees, he returned several minutes later. "They didn't get all of them the other day," Judak informed us. "There are three, and one of them is Krile. He is wearing a shielding layer, to protect him from the sun," he added.
"Are they armed?" I asked, "Yeah, I saw at least one weapon," Judak replied.
Then I Heard someone approach from the other side, and he dropped next to us. He was wearing a mask to cover his face. I don't think he was Krile, or he would have given our position away.
"Don't Move," he said, as he looked over the brow of the hill, "How many did you see, Judak?" he asked, and we looked at him, and then Judak, and wondered what we had gotten into now.
"There are three, and one looked wounded. They have two weapons," he replied.
"What the fuck!,,,Judak" Craig looked puzzled and shocked at this latest development.
"Sorry, Craiglessty, I will have him explain it to you," Judak responded, as the stranger removed his mask,
"No, it can't be, I saw you... dead," Craig cried out in a whisper, looking at who looked to be Borak. "Sorry, Craiglessty, I am not Borak, I am his twin, Lacka, and your brother," Lacka replied.
"Sorry...what...what are you talking about, Borak didn't have a brother, I would have known," Craig yelled out again, just above a whisper. "We found out just over a year ago, the senate doesn't like having two children going to one family, so we got split, our mother told his dad, and then she told yours and mine. I met Borak before he joined up, he joined up to find you," he informed Craig.
"You mean, he was my brother...and you....?" Craig asked, taking a lot of information in. "Lacka, they are moving," Judak whispered out.
"Why are you monitoring the Krile, and how did you get roped into this?" Craig asked Judak, "Borak approached me, and asked if I could help with a little surveillance, he knew about my ability, obviously, from you," he said looking at Craig. "And it just went from there," he added.
"So this is what, exactly?" I asked. "Just a little recon. I suspect, and so does my father, that the senate has been compromised," Judak added. "So I stopped and helped.
"They seem to following the forest, using it as cover," Judak responded.
"Okay, we'd better call it in," Lacka replied. "All we had to do was find out if anyone had gotten away, and if so, where they were, if possible. We have the job done," Lacka added.
We slithered down towards the stream, and headed away from the forest. We got about four hundred yards and Lacka contacted, what I assume was his commander, and ordered troops to enter the wandering forest from the opposite side and the front, so as to apprehend the invaders. Sometime later, we spotted several shuttles doing just that.
"So, what did Borak do when he found out he was my brother?" Craig asked Lacka, as we walked back towards the city. "He seemed happy, he said you were his brother, regardless," he replied. "I wish I'd had more opportunity to have known him," Lacka replied.
"It's weird looking at you, but knowing it's not Borak, when you first showed yourself, I ...I thought" he stalled and continued, "I thought it was him, somehow," he finished.
"Yeah, sorry," Lacka replied, "But I am your brother, also," Lacka added.
"Yeah, I know, it will take some getting used to," Craig replied, rubbing Lacka's shoulders.
Judak and Lacka walked away in a different direction, and said they would be over in the morning just to talk some more, and we agreed. We walked back up the hill toward Craig's home. We walked in, to the sounds of Nathan causing a scene. Levert was at a loss as to how to stop him crying. I walked over, picked him up and held him over my shoulder just soothing him, and soon he stopped crying. "Thank you, you are a natural," Levert said, with me smiling back at him. "You were a good baby," he said, looking at Craig.
"He's just arrived in a new home, Father, he still needs time to adjust," Craig replied, and his father just nodded.
Soon, we all sat down. Nathan was now happy, sitting on my knee bouncing around, and Craig staring at his dad. I knew he was going to ask about his brother.
"Dad, I know about Borak and Lacka," he said, and his father's expression changed.
To be continued...
