That's Impossible, isn't it?
Chapter 16
Craig took Nathan out of the living area and placed him in his crib, just inside the main part of the media type room. Levert looked solemn as he followed him into the room.
"Craiglessty, I was going to tell you, but then he was killed and I didn't want to hurt you further" Levert tried explaining.
"How long, and be honest, Father, how long have you known about Borak and Lacka?" Craig asked, stroking the top of his, now sleeping, baby brother.
I sat on the opposite side of the room allowing Craig to talk things through with his dad.
"Craiglessty, I have known about Borak for about a week before we set off for Earth, and, this is true son, Lacka, I only found out Today," he stated.
"How did you find out?" Craig asked, now sitting next to me.
"Lorrenta came to see me this afternoon and asked how you had taken Borak's death," he informed Craig who just looked perplexed.
"My mother came to see how I was?" he asked. "How was she? She has lost a son as well as I have, a brother?"
"She was more concerned for you," Levert replied. "So how did YOU find out about Borak?" Levert enquired.
"Lacka told me today," Craig informed him, and Levert looked concerned.
"Lacka, is he alright?" Levert asked. So Craig and I went on to explain what had occurred during our sight-seeing trip.
"So, Judak lead you into possible trouble?" Levert spat out. "No, Father, it was nothing like that; I was never put in harm's way. Judak and Lacka saw to that. He located the stray Krile, and informed his commander; that was all the involvement we had, and then we left the area," Craig tried to reassure his father, and as usual somewhat failed.
"That is beside the point; you should not have been there," Levert insisted.
"Okay Okay, we are going around in circles," he proclaimed.
"Levert, sorry, sir, but we are okay. We are fine, we are home, so less arguing," I said, developing a headache. "Sorry, Bobby, you are quite right. It's just that with losing Borak, I don't want anyone else that I love getting hurt," Levert replied, wrapping his arm around his son's neck.
"Sorry, Dad!" Craig replied.
"Levert, something has been bothering me since you told me of the Krile's attack over a hundred years ago," I started.
"What do you mean?" Levert asked, and the mystery story reader in me took over.
"Well, what do the Krile still want with this planet, the Sun hurts them, the Women poison them, so what do they still want with Lokite?" I asked.
"And then there's the fact that they never attacked Bokite," I added. Something about Lokite doesn't ring true, I mean the history," I went on. "The attack was what, one hundred and nine years ago, right? but they still try and destroy you...why?" I asked, and Levert looked and couldn't answer. "Levert, this, to me, seems more like vengeance rather than invasion."
I said, "They never attacked Bokite, so what do the Bokite's and the Krile have in common?" I asked.
"Nothing that I am aware of," Levert replied.
"Just to satisfy my curiosity, can you test the DNA of Judak and compare it to the Krile prisoner?" I asked,
"Why, Bobby?" Craig asked, now looking confused.
"I might be wrong, but what if the Bokite and Krile have the same DNA?" I asked.
"I am not saying the Bokite's are in league with the Krile, but what if the Bokite's were actually Krile that settled on Bokite over three hundred years ago, and as you stated, your ancestors wiped them out, or all but, anyway, what if the Krile are now retaliating for that attack?" I speculated, the amateur detective in me running wild.
"That means if they are Krile...we started this," Levert bemoaned.
"Yes, but we can stop it. You are not those people anymore; we just have to convince the Krile of this," I said.
"That shocks the hell out of me, Babe," said Craig,
"Why is that?" I asked.
"Well, you were failing college, and now look at you, trying to solve a universal conflict," he laughed out.
The following day as Levert arrived at his lab.
"Levert!" Major Barnes shouted as he entered the Senate building.
"Major, how are you today?" Levert asked.
"I just found out my son was on a covert scouting mission, so, not so good, since you asked," Major Barnes replied, none too pleased.
"Major, I have already had it out with the pair of them. They were not out on a covert operation; they just happened to be there and stumbled onto the situation," Levert replied. "They are fine, and in fact, Bobby has related a theory he has about the Krile, and I am going to look into the idea he mentioned last night," Levert added, talking to the Major as he entered his Lab.
"I need a second sample of the Krile prisoner's blood, and a sample of a member of the Bokite; Judak will do," Levert added further.
"Why, what do the Bokite's have to do with the Krile?" Major Barnes asked.
"Bobby has a theory as to why the Krile keep attacking Lokite; he believes it may be a retaliatory strike because of our invasion of Bokite several generations ago" Levert replied.
"That's a stretch even for Bobby's over active imagination," Major Barnes replied.
"Major, can you think of another reason for these continuing attacks? They first attacked us over one hundred years ago, and despite the pain they receive from our sun, they still come back and attack us over and over," Levert asked.
"Okay, answer this then, if the Krile share ancestry with the Bokites, how come the Bokites do not feel pain from the Sun?" Barnes asked.
"Several million miles difference between their distance and ours from the sun. Bokite is a larger distance away from the Sun," Levert replied.
"So, you are going to test this theory?" Major Barnes asked. "Yeah, Major, just as soon as Judak arrives, and, of course, the Prisoner," Levert added.
Meanwhile, back with the boys at Craig's home...
"Are you serious?" asked Lacka "You think Judak is Krile?" Lacka added,
"No, that is not what I am saying, but they do not have a history before three hundred years ago, so the probability of them being a colony is high," I replied.
"Craiglessty, do you go along with this?" Judak asked,
"Judak you are one of my oldest friends, but look at what Bobby is saying, if this is right, I mean look your people can change form, Lokites don't have any form of history saying we were able to do that, just your planet" Craig replied.
"Judak, all I am saying is if this can be proved, we will know for a certain fact the reason for the constant attacks by the Krile. It is retaliation," I added.
The boys just looked at each other, not saying anything for a long time. Lacka stood up and walked over to look out of the window and sighed.
"So, what do we do, I mean do we test Judak or what?" Lacka asked.
"Yes, my dad is waiting at his lab for my call, that's if Judak is willing to be tested," Craig answered.
"And if it proves that we are related to the Krile, then what...enslavement again?" Judak asked.
"Judak, they are not that kind of people anymore... so, no...we will try and establish some contact with the Krile; maybe with our prisoner's help...at least I hope he will help," I said, looking at Judak so he could see I was being sincere.
"Okay, call your dad, and we will head over to his Lab, or do we trust the transporter yet?" Judak asked.
"Yeah, we can use the transporter," I laughed out.
After the call with Levert, we all transported directly to Levert's Laboratory.
"Hey, Dad," I said, hugging my father. "So, covert action?" my dad asked, "No, Dad, we were just there and happened to notice what was happening, that's all," I replied.
"Okay, Judak, I will take a sample of your blood, and extract a sample of your DNA from it, and compare that to the DNA of the Krile prisoner," Levert said, looking at an apprehensive Judak. "Yes, sir, okay," Judak said in a shaky voice. "Don't worry, Judak, it won't hurt, you have my word," Levert said as he took the sample.
We sat and waited for the Krile prisoner to arrive, they talked about how they had missed each other, and Craig informed Lacka about his brother, including some of the mischief they had got up to, when they were just kids, "Wish I'd had the chance to really know him," Lacka replied.
"I have some image plays of him," Levert replied.
"Image plays?" I asked,
"Oh, sorry, Bobby, home movies, I think you call them," he replied. That, I got.
Soon we were joined by a security force flanking the Krile prisoner.
"Sit, please," Levert asked politely. "Why, so you can torture me?" The Krile prisoner asked.
"No sir, we just want to take a sample of your blood," Levert replied.
"Why, so you can develop a weapon against us?" he added.
"Strange question, why would you think that?" Levert asked, as he knew the Krile had developed the virus that had stopped the women of Lokite from giving birth to females.
"Your race is barbaric," The prisoner added. And then stayed silent as Levert took the sample.
"What is your name?" Judak asked. And no reply came. "I am just trying to be friendly...so what is your name? I am Judak of Bokite," Judak added. And the look on the Krile's face changed to one of bewilderment.
"You are of Bokite?" he asked.
"Yes I am," Judak replied. "So you are there slave?" He asked, looking sorry for Judak.
"No, No I am most certainly not," Judak responded, and my theory was looking more and more likely as the seconds passed.
"But you were invaded by this world," he informed Judak, "Yes, but that was hundreds of years ago. Bokite has been free for over a hundred years," Judak replied. "We are friends and neighbours now, no conflicts except the one your people bring," Judak went on.
"Ok, Guys, the results are almost done; it's at 98%," informed Levert. We waited for the result to come through, but I think we already knew what it would say.
"Wow, Bobby...it's almost a perfect match, the Bokites are definitely decedents of the Krile," Levert announced. "Wow, Bobby was right..." Announced my dad.
"Sorry, Bobby, that came out wrong," my dad added.
"It's okay, Dad, it shocked me when I came up with it," I replied, looking at the Krile.
"So, why have you been attacking us for over a hundred years?" Craig asked. "This conflict has taken so many," Levert added.
"Your attack on Bokite killed millions," the Prisoner announced.
"Yes, we definitely have some things we are far from proud of. We made mistakes, but look, we are not those people anymore," Levert said, looking at the Krile prisoner.
"That's because we stopped you breading, you would have sorted us out and annihilated us as you did with the settlers," He demanded.
"Settlers?" Judak asked.
"Yes, your ancestors came to the planet we called Baldora, but your ancestors later changed it to Bokite, as the sister planet to Lokite, they didn't want to live the Krile way; they wanted to get their hands dirty, and with the ability's they had, they abandoned their history. They started it as year one, Krile was not even allowed to be talked about, so when the generations passed, less of the Krile way of life would be known," he went on.
"A scout ship passed, over one hundred and twenty years ago, and informed us of the carnage of Bokite," he said with distain in his voice.
"We are not those people, any more," Levert repeated.
"It's too late; your deeds have to be punished," the Krile added.
"What, one mistake compilling a second mistake?" I replied. "Look, the Lokites have saved our people from self-inflicted disaster, and now you are going to plan the destruction of those people," I added my ten cents to the argument.
"The only way this can be stopped now is by the holy order," the prisoner added, "Look I have seen the compassion your people have shown, but our leaders want blood, but they would not go against the holy ones," the prisoner added.
"Garlot" he added further.
"Sorry," Levert replied.
"Garlot, that is my name,"
"Okay, how do we reach the holy ones?" Craig asked.
"They are here, here on Lokite, they have had sanctuary for over a millennia," Garlot replied.
