That's Impossible, isn't it?
Chapter 7
Over the next few Weeks, Craig showed me and my Father a lot of wonderful things via the holographic system. He showed me his city. Tellad was like New York in so many ways, skyscrapers as far as my eyes could see, they had public transport that looked straight out of the Jetsons. I couldn't wait to see it.
"It must have been like going back in time, when you came to Earth," I said to him, walking one of the many decks, I had gotten used to as home.
"No, not really, different, yes," he replied.
"I feel like you have concerns," I asked.
"Nothing to be worried about, my Ro-Lok," he responded.
"Don't give me that shit," I scorned, "What are you worried about" I insisted, "And don't ever try and protect me by not telling me bad shit, ok?" I added.
"We are about ten days from radio communication from Lokite," he responded.
"Well yeah, but that's a good thing, right?" I replied.
"Yeah, but it means we can be detected by the Krile," he said with a real look of concern on his face, "Craig, you told me there hadn't been a sighting of the Krile in 6 decades," I responded.
"Yeah I know, but if our scientists are right and they are behind our fertility problem, we are sure they will be monitoring our communications," Craig replied, and that concerned look must have transferred over to my face.
"Look, Bobby, this ship, apart from being a science vessel, is heavily armed," he informed me, and yeah, I know and the Chinese found that out.
"And the other ships in our fleet are not throwing rocks," he added, with a reassuring smile, but like on Earth, somewhat failing.
On the Bridge...
"So, are the analysis of the data complete?" asked the prefect, and awaited a reply from one of his senior officers.
"Sabotage, Sir" he responded, "Are you sure that the date is correct?" asked Levert, now with a concerned look on his face. "Yes, sir. Our transmission from earth said the guards had been vaporised and Earth does not have such weapons," the officer added, "so the Krile had a spy, whether on Earth or on board one of our ships," Levert added, "We have to assume they know what we were doing on Earth," The Prefect responded. "We need to prepare ourselves, get ready for them coming, because, Prefect, they will come," Levert replied, now concerned for the safety of his world as well as the surviving humans travelling behind.
"Sir, how do you identify a Krile?" Major Barnes asked.
"Sir, in appearance they are almost identical, except they feel pain in ultraviolet light, we discovered that when we exposed one of the captured invaders on Lokite. We have two Suns and he dropped and cried in Agony. We had to cover him up to interrogate him, but he died from the exposure," Levert answered.
"So, a light with a UV bulb should help detect a spy, if there are any on board," The Major replied.
"Well yes, but why would you ask?" The Prefect enquired, "Sir, back on Earth, the enemy would have a spy or someone who at least sympathised with their cause to infiltrate the hierarchy of Command, and if I am not mistaken, that would be the Hope," The Major informed them.
"Prefect, Major Barnes may be right. it would not hurt anyone to screen everyone on board, including the Humans," Levert replied.
"Thank you, Major. Could you assist Levert in that very Task?" asked the Prefect.
"Yes, Sir, I will, and thank you for your trust," Major Barnes responded.
"Major Barnes, we have Military on board, but in small numbers. You, sir are a man of experience and that experience is going to be needed. Our ship mainly carries scientists, so, sir, it is I who should be thanking you," the Prefect responded.
And the Major and Levert left the bridge and headed for Levert's Laboratory to assemble the right UV emitter to detect if a Krile spy had indeed infiltrated the Hope.
Meanwhile, sometime later on the holadeck...
"So is the water actually this thick?" I asked Craig, who was wading through it,
"Yeah, and this warm." he added. Under a microscope, you can see that there are millions of small organisms," he continued, "The injections you and your people have been taking are to immunise you from any of our bacteria, very much like we had to do when we came to your world," Craig added.
"The Krile, sort of inadvertently warned us regarding bacteria from other worlds, so we studied the bacteria from your planet, and immunised ourselves so as not to contract any diseases," Craig went on.
"So, you're not the dumb jock I thought you were," I replied, dunking him under the water.
"Ro-Lok or not, I'm kicking your ass for that!" Craig yelled at me, chasing me around a small cove, he caught up to me, tackled me into the orange sand. "Thought you were a smart ass" he said holding me down, and drawing me into his lips. "You are lucky I love you so much," he said to me before planting his perfect lips onto mine.
"Yeah, the feeling is mutual, my Ro-Lok," I responded, holding his face, pulling him down for a much needed make out session.
"You hungry?" he asked.
"Just for you," I replied.
"Corny, but expected," he replied, smiling before standing up and reaching down to pull me to my feet, then into a warm embrace. "I love you so much" he continued.
"Yeah, I know. I sense that, remember?" I replied,
"Yeah, but it's always good to hear once in a while," he added.
"It sure is," I replied before once again planting my lips onto his.
A couple of days later...On the Bridge.
"How's the screening going, Levert?" the Prefect asked.
"Going as quick as expected. The other ships are following my protocol and are screening on a priority basis, clearing the senior members of staff, first," Levert replied.
"Good, so how long before it is all done?" he asked.
"The next thirty six hours should see it done, Prefect," Levert replied.
Suddenly, an alarm is sounded and the room in which the prefect was situated was shrouded in a force field, and commands were coming over his com system.
"Science officer, report," the prefect commanded, and over his com system the science officer responded.
"Sir, we have blocked a transmission coming from the observation deck heading point due west, as far as we know, that is Krile space, sir," He replied.
"Do we know what was being transmitted" he asked.
"Yes sir, our coordinates," he replied.
The force field dropped and the alarm was silenced.
"Levert, Major, I think we now know we do have a spy on board, find them or him or her and find out what they know and what they have done. We don't need sabotage aboard this ship," The prefect instructed, now totally pissed off that he had a spy on board and with, apparently, free reign of his vessel.
Meanwhile... back with Craig and Bobby.
"So, what the hell was that all about, are we under attack?" I asked, looking very worried and I could see in Craig's eyes that he sensed my fear.
"I don't think so, but I will contact my Father and find out, ok?" he replied.
Craig then placed his communication disc on the ground and activated it. And as before, Levert appeared before us.
"Father, what was the alarm?"
"Craiglessty, ...OK, we blocked a transmission from the observation deck, so we know we definitely have a spy on board the Hope," Levert replied.
"Father, myself and Bobby only just left the observation deck, there were only three other people up there," Craig responded.
"Can you identify them, Son, the observation points show nothing; the camera system had been blocked with some sort of mini EMP," Levert replied.
"Father, I can do better than that, I took a photo of Bobby on the deck, and all three were in the background," Craig informed him.
"Bring the photo to my Lab, enter the transport pod, and enter your code, I will authorise your arrival to my Lab. see you soon," Levert said, and then vanished.
"Come on, Bobby. We need to get to Father's Lab," Craig said, again pulling me out of our room.
"You really think the spy is in that photo?" I asked.
"There is only one way to find out," Craig responded.
A couple of minutes later, we walked into Levert's Laboratory and My dad was also there, "Hey, Dad, you and Mom Ok?" I asked,
"All the better for seeing you," he replied, pulling me into a hug, and the realisation of the past few months dawned on me. For a few months, I had feared this man. I was flunking college, and he had been disappointed in me, and that terrified me, not that I feared being hurt, but the fear of being a disappointment to him.
"Come visit your Mom soon, ok?" he added, "Yes, Dad, I will; I promise," I said, pulling out of his embrace.
"You must have snapped this picture before the cameras were blocked with the EMP type device. your phone is dead, but the Memory card should be unaffected," Levert responded. "Not like I was calling Earth any time soon anyway," I replied.
And soon Levert was pressing all manner of buttons on his console, before the image appeared and the shocked look on Levert's face appeared.
"Is that who I think it is?" The Major asked.
"Yes Major, The Prefect's personal Guard," Levert replied.
