The Big Mistake By ~J~

Chapter 3: Hell in a hand basket.

The day had finally come for me to head back to school. I was scared of what would people say or do to me. I even tried to beg my mom to let me stay home one more day.

"Oh come on mom please one more day" I begged" I am not ready to face everyone yet" I told her

"TJ dear your father and I did not raise our sons to be cowards" She told me.

"I am not a coward I just don't want to hear what they have to say about me...Umm being what I am," I explained.

"What you are, is a wonderful young man who should be proud of who he is," she says

" I...I don't know mom everyone will hate me" I say while tears are forming in my eyes

" Oh baby it will be OK I promise. You?ll see" she tell me while pulling me into a hug

"If you say (sniff) so (sniff) mom" I say

" Now going on before your late" She tells me

I arrive just as the first bell rings hoping to avoid not only Max but the rest of the students. I make my way to my locker to retrieve my first period books when I hear a voice behind me.

"So the fags finally back in school". I look up to find Max glaring at me with hatred in his eyes.

"Just leave me alone Max," I say to him.

"Aww did I hurt the poor fairies feeling" he taunts while still glaring at me.

"Fuck off Max" I say slamming my locker and walking away from him

"Don't walk away from me fag," He screams.

I quicken my pace hoping to make it to class before he can catch up with me. I turn my head looking back to see Max almost in arm's reach of me still screaming at me not to walk away from him.

"Is there a problem boy's?"

I turn back to see my baseball coach making his way out of the gym.

"No sir" We both reply at the same time

"Good. Now Mr. Jacobson I would like to see you in my office a minute" He tell me then turning to Max he says, "Mr. Young you can head to class I will speak with you later"

"Yes sir" He replies walking away still giving me the evil eye.

"Now Mr. Jacobson in my office" He says leading the way to the locker room where his office is located,

I slowly follow him dazed and wondering what this little meeting is all about. I suddenly remember my classes.

"Um Coach Stone sir... w-what about my class?" I asked.

"Don't worry about it Jacobson I will write you an excuse" he replies.

We arrive at his office and he motions me to sit down, while taking the seat behind the desk.

"Well Jacobson I have some good news and some bad news" He tells me.

My stomach drops somehow knowing this is about what happened in the locker room.

"First off, I want to tell you that I am not here to judge you", Coach Stone state.

I just nod knowing the worst is coming.

"Actually both my brother and aunt are gay," He tells me.

I look up with must of been a look of shock.

He chuckles at my look, then turning serious says. "I know this must be hard for you, but I can't allow you to continue to playing ball," he says.

"And the good news sir?" I ask.

"Well the only reason I am removing you from the team is because about 85% of the team told me they were uncomfortable with you playing". He replies.

"Um sir I don't really t-think that is g-good news," I reply, thinking could this day get any worse.

"No No the good news is I have an old college friend who works as the head coach of the college Baseball team in Virginia" he says smiling.

I open my mouth to say something when he continues.

"I told him about the situation here and how you are one of my best players TJ," He tells me smiling.

"And what does this friend of yours want you to do?" I ask.

"Well I sent him a few tapes of our old games, and he agrees that you are a fine player. He has agreed to set you up with a full baseball scholarship," He tells me. He was bouncing with joy in the chair at his accomplishment.

"I...I d-don't know coach," I say "what about me b-being a-a f-f-fag?" I ask with tears in my eyes for the second time that day.

"Oh I am sure he won't mind TJ, seeing as he's my brother's partner "Coach Stone explains.

"T-Thank you Coach, how can I ever repay you for this?" I ask

"Don't let me down. Now get back to class," he says guiding me to the door.

Over the next few weeks, the taunting and teasing proceeded to get worse. I was not only pushed, punched and teased not only Max but also the whole baseball team. I was afraid to walk alone down the hallways. However, who was there to protect me now that my best friend was gone? I even considered going home and taking a handful of pills just to end it all. I soon realized that was not the answer. I was better than that, I am not going to let a bunch of asshole jocks rule my life. I held my head higher after that, knowing I was proud of whom I was. Until I was alone cleaning out my old gym locker one day and those "asshole jocks" found me.
